Chapter Fourteen
SPOV
It had taken them the better part of the day until they had cleaned out the basement study and he was exhausted by the time he returned to Hogwarts. Not only the exertion of his magic, but the emotional Rollercoaster he went through every time he thought of the danger Miss Granger seemed to be in.
Walking through the empty Hogwarts hallways, he contemplated how much he should tell the Headmaster and if he should tell him anything at all. On the one hand, he did not want Miss Granger exposed to the old man and his machinations, on the other hand though, they would need all the help they could get. And the fight against the Dark Lord was certainly something they needed help with. He would talk to Miss Granger first, he decided, turning around to stalk to the rooms she shared with Mr. Malfoy. He stopped in front of their door and knocked. He heard movement behind the door and a groan, before something hit the floor with a dull thud.
A moment later he heart feet on the floor and the door opened to show a half-asleep Mr. Malfoy standing in front of him.
“Professor Snape? What are you doing here?” the boy asked him groggily. Severus glanced behind the boy to see the coffee table littered with books and parchments. Obviously Mr. Malfoy had been studying and had fallen asleep over his books, still dressed in his slacks and shirt.
“I wish to speak to Miss Granger.” He simply answered.
“Oh, well, there is a problem. She is up at Gryffindor Tower right now. I think she was going to spend the night up there with the Weasley girl.” Mr Malfoy replied.
He felt annoyance settling in at the thought of having Miss Granger out of reach. If they started talking badly about him or Mr. Malfoy the girl could very well decide that he wasn’t worth the effort.
“I see. I wish you a good night then, Mr. Malfoy. I take it she will be returning in the morning?”
“As far as I know. Tomorrow is Sunday, so maybe she will stay?” the boy answered him. He felt rage boil inside his chest. He wanted, no needed her to be accessible.
“When she returns tomorrow morning I expect you to send her to my office.” He answered, refusing to think about her staying in Gryffindor Tower all day. He might be able to grudgingly admit to liking the witch, or at least what she could do to him, but her little friends where another story. He did not like them, they were spoiled brats, especially the Potter boy.
“I will, Professor.” The blond replied.
He was already turning to walk away when he heard Malfoy call out to him again.
“Professor. Can I ask you just one more thing of you?”
“Of course. I do not know if I should wish to act on it, though.” He said with a snarl. Liking his Slytherins was one thing. Pandering to their every whims was another.
“Treat her right. She deserves that. And if you ask what would be in for you, well, you would have a loyal, honest and smart witch by your side for the rest of your life. She really likes you and more importantly respects you.”
Severus felt his heart give a small skip at the boy’s words. Malfoy was staring at him and trying to gauge his reaction, but as he had done with Lucius, he would not give the boy the satisfaction of agreeing or disagreeing with him.
“I see. I will keep that in my mind, Mister Malfoy. Good night.” He turned around stalked along the halls, his mind whirling with thoughts.

“Hey, Guys! I’m back!” Hermione caked out when she entered Gryffindor Tower.
Harry, Ron and Ginny were lounging in the Gryffindor sitting room, chatting with each other when Hermione walked in. She strolled over to her friends and plopped down next to Harry, who snorted and shifted away from her slightly. She paused at that, since he had never done that before.
“Hey, Mione! So, how was your weekend with the Greasy Git?” Ron said, grinning at her.
“That is Professor Snape to you and…what is going on Harry? Am I smelly or why are you moving away from me and snuffling?” She finally said to Harry, who had been trying to disappear into the other side of the settee they shared.
“Yes, you are smelly. It’s the smell of a traitor.” Harry responded, snarling at her and finally standing up.
She launched herself out of her seat, too, and stood in front of him.
“What are you talking about? How the hell am I a traitor?”
“You went off with the bat of the dungeons and Malfoy for a weekend, didn’t you? A Gryffindor with two Slytherins. That looks like a traitor to me.” Harry said, still staring at her like she had done something wrong.
“Are you kidding me? There was a legitimate reason for that, which by the way is none of your bloody business! I can’t believe you, Harry James Potter!” she yelled, not even hearing Ginny and Ron try to calm down the situation.
“Really Harry, you can be a right git at times.” Ron said, stepping between herself and Harry.
Hermione had enough, though. She wouldn’t spend another minute here, so she turned to Ginny and quickly told her she would return to her own dorm. They hugged, with Ginny whispering an apology in her ear. She turned around and stalked back out of Gryffindor Tower and started to track back to her rooms she shared with Draco. She was silently crying and knew the body wringing sobs would start soon. It had been building up for a while, this tension between her and her best friends. She and Harry rarely went a day without snapping at each other and Ron was at best thoughtless, but more often than not, cruel.
She turned a corner and bumped into something hard and unyielding. She gasped and nearly fell down if not for the person she had bumped into. She felt hands on her arms holding her up. When she looked up she found herself staring into the face of Professor Snape.
“Professor!” She exclaimed, forgetting where they were and just snuggling into his embrace. She finally let her tears run free, knowing he would probably be disgusted by her crying. He surprised her, though, by wrapping her up in his arms and rocking her from side to side.
“Shhh, it is ok, pet. Tell me what happened, come on.” He crooned in her ear, making her sob harder. She couldn’t help herself, this had been building up for a while. The stress from the NEWTS, her friends and her, until recently, unanswered feelings for the man holding her so gently right now.
She felt him shift her until she was under his arm and he started walking her down the hallway. She clung to him still and tried to stop her sobbing, but she wasn’t able to. She just kept on hiccupping and walking beside him. She didn’t know how long they had been walking, but she felt Professor Snape pull her into a room and sat her down on a chair.
“Now, Miss Granger, tell me why you are crying.” Professor Snape said to her, kneeling on the floor in front of her. She felt him grab her hands and pull them down from her face. She had been crying into them and refusing to look at him. He held on to them, and started rubbing her fingers, looking up into her eyes. He was as pale as always, with his hair loose and falling halfway into his face. His dark eyes caught hers and held them captive. She felt her heart skip a beat and then told him everything that was going on in her life. It felt like she was talking for hours by the time she had finished. Her sobs had certainly stopped.
“… and then tonight they just called me a traitor. Like, I am not allowed to have friends outside of Gryffindor? And how they talked about you! They have no respect for me and my opinions or you as a person!” she was yelling by the end, her anger overpowering her sadness
Professor Snape lifted her hands and kissed them gently, surprising her into silence and calming her down at the same time.
“Before I start about what happened today, let me give you a little bit of advice, pet. When you have loyal friends that want only the best for you, never ever make the mistake of forsaking them for a new lover, boyfriend or even a husband. Romantic relationships fail. Friendships only fail if one of the people involved actively try to sabotage them. So, if they just are not ok with the man you got involved with, take that as good advice and think about what they are saying. Listen to their criticism. Do yourself and your friends that favour.”
He paused and kissed every one of her fingertips. She gave a little sigh and he lifted his face up to hers, kissing her gently. He ran his closed lips over hers softly and then sucked her lower lip into his mouth. She gasped and he took that as an opportunity to give her open mouthed kisses. She expected him to slip his tongue inside her mouth or to heat up the kiss, but he broke it off and leaned back again.
“That being said.” He started again, his hoarse and desire clogged voice making her smile. He cleared his throat, his cheeks going a bit pink at being caught in their passion.
“That being said, young Mr. Potter is an idiot and Mr. Weasley follows him gleefully into his idiocy. The only one of them that has at least a small amount of brains is Ms. Weasley and she is so devoted to Mr. Potter, she is ready to discard you along the way. If you want someone loyal, pet, keep close to Mr. Longbottom or Ms. Lovegood. Now, dry your tears. There is nothing to be upset about. Without them knowing what was going on they judged you and that are not the actions of a friend. You have secured your future with an apprenticeship. They still haven’t. That is something to be celebrated.”
She smiled at him and said a quiet thank you to him. She leaned down and let her lips rest lightly against his, initiating another series of soft kisses. They stayed like that for a while and then he leaned back again, staring at her.
“Another thing. I would like if you stopped calling me ‘Professor’ when we are alone. I would feel less like an old lecher if you called me either ‘Master’ or by my given name.”
“Master? Why Master?” she asked him. Her voice was still breathless from his kisses. And the thought of calling him ‘Master’, implying her servitude made her feel hot all over.
“Because, pet, I will be you Potions Master soon. It is the normal title for me. Mr. Malfoy will have to call me Master, too.”
She nodded at that and took a deep breath.
“Well, then, Master Severus. That is what I will do from now on.” She looked into his eyes and her slight smile vanished as his stare suddenly got more intense at her calling him Master.
“Very well, then, pet. We will have to get you back to your rooms. Come on. And on another note. Next weekend is the Hogsmeade weekend. Keep it free.” He said, pulling her up by her hands and ignoring her protests. He smiled at her, transforming his face. She felt a responding smile tug at her lips and obediently followed him back to her rooms.

This was getting out of hand. The girl had obviously noticed her pregnancy to early and aborted the child. She had seen the girl in the greenhouse handling all the herbs without any problems.
HE had nearly killed her when she had told her, using whatever magic kept him here to make her head hurt. Her eyes had been bleeding as had her ears and nose. She was fast getting worried and what had looked like a good idea now seemed a terrible idea. She knew that the diary was a Horcrux, he had told her. She was surprised at how generous he was with that kind of information when he didn’t tell her anything else. Like who he truly was. She hurried along the halls directly to the dungeons, wanting to take advantage of Hogwarts Potions Master not being in residence. She arrived at the classroom and opened the door, quickly crossing the room to the storeroom. She made quick work of the wards and stepped into the shelve-filled room. She went through them until she found the little bottle labelled ‘Basilisk Venom’.
She grabbed the bottle and hurried out again, not bothering with the wards.
