"Ah...the wonders of exasperation," he said, turning his head to smile at his Uncle, but then his smile disappeared. "Fine, yes, something is troubling me. DEEPLY troubling me...several somethings, point of fact."
"Would you like to talk about it?"
A deep sigh sounded. "That would really be great, Uncle, but..." he stopped, shook his head, "I'm just not sure that I can right now."
"Would this happen to be about why Rodolphus hasn't shown up yet?"
"No," he answered immediately, "this has nothing to do with Rodolphus, especially as I KNOW he will be in as soon as he finishes with whatever it is he is looking into."
: Which I have, : came into his mind.
"Alright, but..." a pause as he looked over at him, "he wasn't here when you needed him to be. You so very nearly DIED, Roark. TWICE. And your lover, the man you say loves you, wasn't here for you. What, I have to ask, is more important than the life of the man you say you love? If it had been him in that position, you never would have left his side, not even being given orders from Admiral Roark, Commander Thorin, or Dacian would have budged you."
Roark felt a sudden, very intense surge of pain, and he knew immediately from whom it came. : Rodolphus, it's fine, love. Really. :
: No, darling, it really wasn't. He's right. You needed me to be there for you, and I wasn't. He is also right in that if it HAD been me, you would have remained by my side no matter what anyone said, OR what you had been ordered to do. :
: As true as that all may be, Dolph, you were told to go for your own safety...so you went. You obviously felt that whatever you were investigating was just as important, if not more so, or you would have come straight to Caprica. I know you would, and what's more, YOU know you would have. :
"All very true, Uncle, he WASN'T here, but then, I was in a coma for most of that time anyway, knowing nothing of what was happening around me, and even if he HAD been there, I wouldn't have known it, No, this had NOTHING to do with Rodolphus."
"Okay, then, enough is said about the matter. But if it ISN'T Rodolphus, care to tell me what it Is?"
"I can't, Uncle. I'M not even exactly sure what is disturbing me. I had a horrid dream...one I haven't had in close to eight yahren. A dream that woke me from a sound sleep, and it isn't the first time I've had it recently."
"What KIND of dream? And just HOW horrid?"
"Bad enough that it jerked me from a drug-induced sound sleep. Those new sleeping pills Sebastien gave me are extremely potent. And before you ask. no, I can't tell you about it because I don't remember any of it. All I'm left with once I wake up are impressions, and all I know for sure is that I was utterly terrified by what I had seen."
His hands curled around the porch rail, thinking of how he wanted to ask his next question, then decided to just ask. "Uncle, what are your feelings about this offer of Peace from the Cylon Empire?"
: Complete and utter bullshit. :
A sudden inner chuckle sounded. : DO tell me what you think, Rodolphus. :
A snicker. : I do believe I just did, darling. :
"Why are you asking, Rory?"
"Again, I'm not really sure, but...I just...Oh, Kobol, I just don't know. Tell me what your feelings are about this?"
Apollo frowned. "Truthfully? I'm not really sure HOW I feel about it. It was, after all, just confirmed a few sectons ago that there had even BEEN an offer. As for the offer itself...I'd like to believe that it could be a possibility, and yet...there is this small part of me that is screaming NO WAY IN HELL is this possible.
"I mean...SERIOUSLY? Who would have ever thought that the war-mongering Cylon Nation would sue the very people they have only wanted to destroy for Peace? WHY would they sue for Peace when, on all accounts, they were winning this war? Yet that is exactly what they have done. Through Councilor Count Baltar, they have brought forth a peace proposal that actually has the President, AND the Council of Twelve seriously considering on accepting it."
: Yes. Exactly. Now begs the question of, WHY councilor Count Baltar of all people? :
"Um...yes, but why Baltar?" he asked in a near murmur. : You know something about Councilor Baltar, Rodolphus? : came the question.
When Rodolphus didn't answer, he shook his head. "We...I don't trust him. Grandfather doesn't trust him. Any more than he trusts the Cylons. This is all out of context with everything we know about the Cylons."
: UNDERSTATEMENT. : Rodolphus said.
: So I am right? You don't trust them? :
: Absolutely not, : came back strongly. : The Cylons, Roark, have only ever had one objective, and that was to destroy the human race in its entirety. Why this sudden turnaround? No. I DO NOT trust them, and what is more, neither do the Durin's. Admiral Roark, Commander Thorin, Dacian, and Gabriel have said they've already begun to pull in all Counter-Intelligence teams that are not on important missions to help with this investigation. They intend to prove this Peace Offer, and the proposed Peace Conference are false. :
