A/N: Has anyone here seen “Close My Eyes”? …yeah, stupid question. I just watched it last night…Alan adorable as
always, but let me tell you: I’d sleep
with my brother too if I had to be married to that yakkity-yak, no matter how
hot he was. Lol. I think I’ll have nightmares forever about
Clive Owen’s bits and pieces; the man just doesn’t do anything for me at
all. Why is it that he was displayed in
all his *ahem* glory when Alan’s single sex scene had him heaving about
underneath blankets? There is no justice
in this world.

They arrived at Godric’s Hollow after meeting up with the
other Aurors at the Ministry, where Hermione warned the about the probable use
of Mage Fire, which did nothing to lessen the rampant hysteria. Tonks comforted her as Hermione confessed how
worried and afraid she was for her two Death Eaters, wishing that she had never
left them even for a second. What if she
never got to tell them how sorry she was for leaving, and how much she loved
them? To her dismay, none of the Order
members could tell her anything regarding the Animagus forms of Severus and
Lucius; they were a bit too keyed up over the upcoming battle that would decide
the fate of not only the wizarding world, but the muggle one as well.
They formed into ranks silently, grouping around Harry who
looked as if he were going to be sick.
Ron had already thrown up everything he had eaten ever since he was a
fourth year. Dumbledore came up to the
trio of friends and pulled out an antique pocket watch from his robes, peering
down at it. “Well, my young
friends…this, as they say, is it. Your
two will give the signal in about one minute, Hermione. Please be careful, for their sakes if not for
your own.” Hermione’s smile was a bit
wobbly as she looked up at him, then all turned their faces up to the sky. The night was pitch black; it was a new moon
and even the stars couldn’t penetrate the curtain night had drawn about the
land. All at once, Hermione felt the
familiar tingle, as if an invisible finger had stroked down her spine – having
a relationship with her Death Eaters had made her extremely sensitive to their
spell signatures, and she could always tell when either of them discharged a
spell, as well as being able to tell which of them had done it. The Dark Mark exploded into the sky in a glittering
shower of green light and she recognized it immediately. “Lucius cast that one,” she remarked
absently, not noticing the startled looks the others gave her. “And Severus…what is he doing?” She frowned -something odd was
happening.
Tonks gave a shout as the tendrils of black smoke, the
signatures of Death Eater Apparation, (even now, when she should be scared witless,
she remembered how Severus had once changed his smoke’s color to a bright pink
just to make her smile – not to be outdone, Lucius had changed his to lavender)
came streaming from the Mark’s center and down to the ground surrounding
them. Roughly two dozen Death Eaters
Apparated with wands already drawn – they were grossly outnumbered, yet through
the eyeholes of their masks could be seen looks of gloating triumph that didn’t
diminish even as Albus strode forward, throwing back his cloak’s hood. Hermione didn’t recognize any of the dark
wizards as her pair and it was only because she glanced worriedly up at Harry
that she saw it – a huge cloud of Dementors streaking right towards them. As she screamed a warning, the Death Eater’s
attacked.

Up until the last moment, Severus and Lucius had been going
over and over their plan They had
learned of the Dementors involvement too late to even send a Patronus to the
Order, and had to alter things to allow for it.
They decided that, since Voldemort most likely wouldn’t appear until his
opposition was rife with fear and demoralized by the Dementors presence, only
one of them should transform at the chosen time – the other would take down as
many of their former brethren as they could before joining the fight in their
other form.
Lucius tried hard to conceal his terror, not wanting his
friend to think him weak. “I’ll go
first, and take care of the Dementors,” Severus stated, not fooled for an
instant. “I’m the one that has been out
of favor recently with all the rumors about Albus, and they would never suspect
you.” He glanced at his timepiece. “It’s nearly time; when you cast the Mark,
I’ll transform as I recite the incantations for the Fire. With any luck, the Dark Lord won’t feel the
extra surge in power.”
The two men looked at each other. “We get out of this, we’re
giving Hermione the ring we made for her,” Lucius announced, grasping his
friend’s forearm tightly. So, so many things
could go wrong and prevent them from seeing their little Gryffindor witch
again. “I only hope she’s not so mad at
the Stunning Spell that she says no.” He
smiled weakly. Severus looked back at
him with a calmness he didn’t feel.
“If it goes wrong, take care of her…or I’ll haunt you until
the end of your miserable days.” His
friend sniffed, tossing his hair arrogantly to hide the emotion in his grey
eyes and huffed that he would be glad to get rid of Severus at last – he hated
sharing and knew several good ghost-banishing spells. Severus grinned…typical Lucius. “It’s time.”
They quickly drew a ward circle, Severus sitting cross
legged in the middle. Lucius got in one
last crack about him looking like the ugliest Swami he’d ever seen – where was
his turban? Severus fixed him with a
sizzling look and an obscene gesture, then closed his dark eyes to begin the
incantation. The Potions Master’s robes
began to flutter as if caught in a high wind – a leaf which had fallen in the
circle as they worked to complete it spontaneously combusted and all within the
circle, a great column of bluish-green flame ignited with a mighty roar just as
Lucius pointed his wand straight up. “MORSMORDRE!” The Dark Mark floated directly above them,
and Lucius sheathed his wand back inside the cane to kneel opposite the pulsing
column of Mage Fire – he couldn’t see Severus at all inside it and began to
grow increasingly anxious, yelling his friend’s name but not daring to breach
the protective wards of the circle.
He squinted into the brilliant blue-green light that was now
beginning to have reddish edges, and gasped in relief as the flames began to
diminish slowly, dipping lower…lower…until they were extinguished in a hissing
rush. The sudden absence of light
effectively blinded Lucius, and he stretched out his hands. “Severus? Severus! Merlin help me if you’ve gone and snuffed it,
Hermione will skin me alive! SEVERUS!”
A peculiar snuffling sound made him jump, almost as much as
the feel of something warm and wet against his questing fingers. He fumbled for his wand. “Lumos.”
And jumped again as he found himself face to face with a humongous, jet
black Hungarian Horntail who immediately began hissing and jerking its head in
mirth. “Stop laughing, you idiot! This is serious! Did it work?”
I believe so…I have a
most peculiar urge to belch right now, and suspect that if I do, the Mage Fire
will come out, Severus hissed to him.
It was an extremely little known fact that both men spoke Parseltongue;
not even Hermione was aware of it. When
Lucius suggested they perform a test, he agreed and let his friend create a
warded area for him to “belch” in…as he had thought, Mage Fire shot from his
mouth to incinerate the rubbish bin that had been his target and started eating
at the wards as well. Lucius watched as
the dragon stared fiercely at the fire…and sighed as the flames were snuffed
out neatly. That was easier than I thought it would be. I’ll
see you there. Severus crouched,
then launched himself up into the air with powerful strokes of his wings,
almost knocking over the other wizard who was going for his broom.

The group of Aurors tried to ready their Patronuses as the
Death Eaters attacked; the air was filled with shouts and curses, magical and
otherwise. Hermione blasted a tall blond
man with the Reductus Curse, trying desperately to keep her mental balance as
she felt the Dementors influence on her.
“EXPECTO PATRONUM!” Her silvery otter Patronus waddled out to
block a Dementor as it glided towards her; she could vaguely see Tonks’
fighting off another one with her werewolf Patronus. The air was split by a brassy roar that made
all fighting cease for a split second, and they all looked up to see the
biggest dragon most had ever seen swoop down.
Great – instead of being hexed or
having my soul sucked out, I’ll just be eaten! She thought
hysterically.
The Dementors swung around and headed right for it…what was
going on? The huge dragon – it had to be
a Hungarian Horntail, but she’d never seen a black one – fanned its wings to
hover and lash its spiked tail, roaring loudly.
Hermione cursed another female Death Eater, using Petrificus Totalus on the harridan, and looked back up at the
strange sight. As the Dementors flew
towards the black dragon, it reared back and let loose a stream of fire like
she’d never seen, it engulfed two of the nearest Dementors in a bluish-green
conflagration. “Severus,” she gasped,
feeling the ripple up and down her spine.
It figured that his Animagus form would be the meanest dragon in
existence! She heard her name being
bellowed angrily, and turned just in time to see another Death Eater drop in
his tracks after being hit by an extremely pissed off Lucius Malfoy. His long hair streamed behind him as he ran
to her.
“What the devil do you think you’re playing at?!?!” he
screamed, shaking her roughly.
She was so overcome by emotion at the sight of him that she
clung to him tightly, sobbing his name. “Lucius…”
He blasted a hex at another Death Eater. “It’s too dangerous for you here, damn it
all!” his hands were ice cold as he
gripped the sides of her face. “Get out
of here, before he comes – go!”
“I’m not leaving you, I’m not leaving either of you!” she screamed back, pulling on the sleeves of
his Death Eater robes – her hands stilled as she noticed a tall figure
Apparating amidst the chaos. Lucius
twisted to see what she was looking at; the blood left his face and he pushed
her to the ground, hissing at her to lie quiet and not to move. She obeyed, unable to take her eyes away from
the sight of Lord Voldemort advancing towards Dumbledore menacingly. Her lover whirled and ran to continue
bringing down the other Death Eaters – Severus was burning his way through the
Dementors steadily, filling the night with his bellows of rage.
Lucius helped the remaining Order members and Aurors secure
the last of the Death Eaters, who were fast becoming demoralized at the
destruction of their “secret” weapons and making mistakes. Bellatrix Lestrange caught him with the
Cruciatus Curse and he writhed in pain while she laughed, bidding Antonin
Dolohov to bring down Severus. Mage Fire
swirled overhead, searing trees and setting houses ablaze; finished with the
Dementors, his friend swooped down lower to slam his tail down on Macnair who
had been trying to flee. Lucius had to
warn him…but the agony was too great for him to make any sound other than a
pained scream. He twisted to see Dolohov
grin and raise his wand. The jet of red
light was streaking directly towards Severus….

Yes, another teeny weeny cliffhanger. I think I must have a bit of sadism in my
nature. The fight heats up next chapter!
I am officially the proud owner of a
“I Speak Parseltongue” tshirt,
it’s awesome! I also got one that says
“I solemnly swear I am up to no good.” I
shall be the envy of all the school kids …lol.
