"Are you just going to sit there all day?" Scorpius jumped, started by the voice which removed him from some far off world. "Waiting on an owl or something?"
It had been about 2 weeks since summer break had begun for Scorpius, and already it was going unbearably slow. While school was still in session, he had spend most of his free time running around Hogwarts with Albus, taking meals with Albus, and sharing a bed with him. Now however, that he was home, Scorpius felt more alone than he ever had before. His nights were spent dreaming of his lover, and his days consisted of sting near the window to which the owls deliver parcels. For the past two weeks no one in his household had noticed this daily routine of wakening and waiting, in fact it was surprising that his father had even noticed.
"Um, why would you ask that?" He replied quickly. "I just like this chair." He added with a gesture to the rather uncomfortable looking chair he was sitting in.
"If you say so." Draco Malfoy replied, his left eyebrow raising in a questioning manner. "Mind if I join you?"
"Yeah sure." Scorpius replied hesitantly. If a letter from Albus would arrive as Draco was sitting beside him, there would be a lot of things to explain.
"So what's been going on with you?" Draco said as he sat across from his son on an equally uncomfortable chair.
"Wha-what are you talking about? I'm fine." Scorpius heart began to sink as his father surveyed him with a silver gaze, one which seemed uncertain weather or not to believe what it was being told.
"No I don't think you are." Draco stated before casting his gaze out the window and away from his son. "I know you think I don't notice, but when my only child sits by a window for two weeks I tend to become concerned." Every once and a while Draco surprised Scorpius with his parental intuition, had he not been so fearful of his relationship with Albus being exposed in this conversation, he would have been quite happy.
"I just miss... school." He lied, attempting to chose his words wisely.
"You've come home for summer before without sitting at this window for hours on end." Scorpius heart began to race, he was certain his father was getting closer to the conversation he so dreaded. "What happened this year? What sent you to the hospital?"
Scorpius was family certain that his father had known of all the injuries he had sustained when David raped him. Fear deepened as he realized that there were very few ways in which to explain the type of wounds he suffered that did not deal with something sexual. If simply telling his father that he was raped would be enough, Scorpius would have done so with no hesitation, but Draco would not be satisfied with such an answer. No, if Scorpius was to explain one part of the puzzle he would have to reveal all the pieces.
Scorpius took a deep breath and looked his father in the eye, knowing well that it could possibly be the last time his face would not be filled with disgust and contempt towards his son. Slowly, cautiously, he began to tell his father the events which had occurred during the year.
Draco said nothing as his son told him stories of violence, rape, love and comfort. When Scorpus finished he sat nervously starring at his fathers face waiting for a reaction. It was an unbearable few moments before Draco spoke. "Are you sure?" Scorpius did not need clarification, he knew full well what his father was asking.
"I have since I was little."
"And you love him?" Draco asked flatly, still no reaction being shown on his pointed face.
"I do."
"How many people know?"
"Just his older brother."
"Are you sure this is what you want?"
"Without a doubt."
It was then that something completely unexpected happened: Draco smiled warmly at his son. "After the war our family became a disgrace. I married your mother not out of love, but out of an attempt at reconciliation. I thought that if we became associated once more with a respectable family that our name would not come with such distain. I may have accomplished this goal, even in the smallest amount, yet i have suffered for it. I want you to experience a kind of love which I never had. If the son of Potter does that for you...well, just don't let your grandfather find out oaky?"
Scorpius sat in a stunned silence. Had his eyes and ears failed him? Did his father really understand? Was he perhaps hallucinating under the extreme amounts of pressure. Draco, apparently sensing his sons loss for words, reached forwards and grasped his shoulder "It's okay Scorpius. I understand." It was at these words which reality hit Scoprius full force. As tears poured down his face he embraced his father in a tight hug, something he had not done since youth.
