Thanks again for the great reviews!
Just a quick Author's Note in answer to @kain: Thanks for the questions. They really made me think about the direction this story was taking =)
Yes-Lucius was a known Death Eater and Hermione is well aware of the extent of his powers but I guess her peaceful (maybe?) nature along with the love bond makes her accept Lucius for all that he is and was.
I set the story after the epilogue to give his character time to, if not completely redeem himself, at least to prove he wasn't completely evil (no known evil acts committed in the last decade or so lol).
Also, Hermione's character seems to have darker aspects herself. Although she wouldn't kill innocent people just for the sake of killing, her bond to Lucius is making the darker side of her surface more often.
Hopefully, this explanation answers your question. Things might become clearer in this chapter!
As always, please review/rate =)
Rose Weasley had done the unthinkable. She had cut class for the day!
"I have a valid reason", she mumbled to herself, trying to keep herself from hyperventilating at her new-found rebellion. No one could blame her after all, could they? Her mum and just changed the entire course of her life-the last eleven years all seemed like a dream.
She had always been told by everyone around her- her grandparents, uncles, aunts- that her parents were the perfect couple…well not in so many words exactly. Her grandma had told her funny stories of the time when her mum and dad were her age, how much they fought and argued.
"Their story, it's almost like a typical fairytale", Grandma Molly had explained. Rose had been enchanted with the idea, that her parents had grown up together and discovered their love for each other during one of the most dangerous ages of wizarding history!
But now…she didn't know what to think. Her mum said she had never loved her dad as anything more than a friend. Then why did she get married to him? Why didn't she leave him before?
She knew the envelope she held in her gloved hands held the answers to all her questions but she wasn't sure if she wanted to know a part of history that had, until now, been hidden from her sight. She looked up as she trudged the snow laden path of Hogsmeade village, startled to find her feet leading her in the direction of the Shrieking Shack. The place was supposedly haunted by the ghost of Professor Snape, the potions teacher who had taught her parents.
Great! She had to go and think of her parents again! "I never believed the rumours anyway" she mumbled out loud to herself as she gathered her courage and walked up the path to the door of the Shack. She needed a quiet place to think and where could be better than here? No one would ever think to look for her in an old, abandoned, haunted hut!
She opened the worn, wooden door, trying not to wince as it squealed open and then banged shut once she had stepped in. The musty smell one gets when old artefacts are present, surrounded her, invading her senses as she found a low, wooden bench to sit on. There were a few holes in the roof which provided her with enough light to read and she broke open the seal and began the journey of her mum's life.
Hermione was sitting in front of the blazing fire in Lucius' office, curled up on the large couch he had insisted on having the elves place there. "This is your personal space!" she had argued unsuccessfully, "I can go downstairs".
He had adamantly refused and, despite the heated argument that followed, she had eventually given way.
This was why she now found herself with her head resting against Lucius' broad chest and his left arm wrapped around her waist for support as he filled, signed and stamped forms for his business. Hermione found herself drifting off as the warmth of the fire seeped into her chilled bones. A coat and gloves were not enough protection when visiting Hogsmeade in the winter. Or perhaps she was just getting older?
She snuggled closer to Lucius, mumbling, "Sorry" as an afterthought in case she had disturbed his work. He just chuckled and pulled her even closer, placing a soft kiss on the top of her head before murmuring the soft command, "Sleep". She was more than happy to comply!
The tall silhouettes of menacing trees surrounded her as she walked the path that few trod but it didn't fill her with fear as she had expected…was it The Dark Forest? "It looks familiar", a nagging voice in her head kept reminding her but she pushed it to the back of her mind. She had more important things to do than identify her surroundings. She was on a mission.
A task he had entrusted to no one but her to lead. She wouldn't let him down- she couldn't. He would be disappointed.
She saw the clearing up ahead and took out her wand. "You are more powerful then you realise My Lady", he had whispered to her before she had left and he was right. She could feel power coursing through her veins, just waiting to be channelled out through her wand at her command. Her whole body tingled with the thrill of knowing she was not truly alone. His magic was in her too. Together, they were unbeatable.
He had taken extra precautions just the same, covering her with an assortment of strong, protective charms. She knew beyond a doubt that she was everything to him, just as the child that was now growing inside her was. His rare display of excitement when she announced the news had caused her to smile. Of course, he had yet to announce it to his followers but both of them had agreed that any distractions at the moment could result in their defeat.
She could still feel his last kiss as she left him, his lips had been warm and demanding. She hadn't been very gentle either. "We will win this pet", he had murmured as he kissed her neck, "For us. For our children". She had bestowed another kiss on him as she noticed the gentle light that entered his eyes as he said these words.
They were so close now. She slowed down her pace. There was no hurry although her quarry might disagree. She would not lose this battle. It was easier than brewing a potion.
Her enemy. All his moves were predictable, repetitive. She had watched, observed. He was familiar to her but she was a stranger to him. He stood no chance!
She stepped into the clearing as the pale moonlight caressed her dark, blue robe, spotting the figure on the other side. His wand was held in front of him, his stature defensive. Of course! He wouldn't attack until provoked. Too noble.
A laugh left her lips at the thought and it echoed around the eerily silent clearing, making her power even more apparent. She could feel her followers close at hand, preparing to form a protective circle around her but she waved them back. They were bound to protect her by blood but for this, she needed no help.
She saw the figure step forward and throw a silent curse, which she easily deflected. She was the master of silent spells, him-merely a beginner. She chuckled quietly, a dangerous sound from her enemy's perspective. This battle would not even be challenging for her!
Her next spell knocked him down as the tree branches closest to him swung back at her command and hit him. Victory was imminent. She used her trademark spell, "Anguis Venenum". Her opponent didn't expect her silent attack and she could see the fear etched in his face as he stared up at the giant cobra that was hissing at him. She slipped off her hood, wanting nothing to obscure her view of her opponent's last stance. The Auror looked at her as she stood, framed by the moonlight, a smirk gracing her face. She had never looked more beautiful…or more deadly.
"Hermione?" It was a question, a plea. He was begging her to think of the memories they had shared together in their lives. The happier times. To leave her soul mate and the mission they stood for. The one they were winning. She stared at him for a moment with detached amusement. She would always have the memories-what a pity!
"Hermione. I know you. You wouldn't", he stated, his green eyes locking with hers, reading the emotion in her eyes, widening as he realised her intent.
"Not anymore, Potter", she waved her wand, watching as the last moments of the legendary Harry Potter played out in front of her and not feeling the least bit remorseful.
Hermione found herself drenched in sweat, screaming, thrashing and it was only when she felt Lucius' cold hands against her burning skin that she managed to open her eyes. "Hermione?" his eyes were wide with worry as he shifted her trembling figure from the couch beside him to his lap, holding her against him firmly until he felt the sobs that raked through her body quieten. "Pet? Tell me", he murmured to her, stroking her hair.
Instead of replying, Hermione kissed his shoulder, then his neck, working her way up to his mouth. Despite his confusion and worry, his body still responded to her and she felt his warm lips press against hers before he rested them against the side of her neck, effectively preventing her from continuing. "Tell me", he whispered again, his breath on her sensitive skin making her shiver.
"I…the dream…I was killing…" she whispered, unable to go on. Lucius' arms tightened around her and he pulled back to look at her.
"Killing?" he questioned, trying to keep the panic out of his voice. She nodded, her eyes wide and still filled with tears.
"I was in the forest…at night…I…", she moved a hand to her stomach then let it drop, shaking her head. It was only a dream after all.
"Harry was there. The dream…" she hid her face against his shoulder, pulling him closer to her, needing to feel the protection and comfort that only he could offer.
"It was just a nightmare, pet", he murmured back, despite his instincts telling him otherwise. "You had a long day, facing your daughter. It just got to you". He tightened his hold around her waist, anchoring her to him. Seeing her like this was affecting his own emotions.
She nodded slightly, lifting her head to give him a tear-stained smile. "I know…I guess I just overreacted. Sorry". He wiped the remaining tears away with his thumb, placing his palm on her cheek as she leaned into his touch with a soft sigh. She looked so beautiful and vulnerable and powerful. The last thought came to his mind unbidden and he frowned as he realised it was true. Even at her most vulnerable, she was a strong and powerful woman.
He had no doubt that, despite her emotional breakdown, she could still duel someone at this very moment without batting an eyelid. A very powerful witch indeed.
Hermione watched the emotions play across Lucius' face, alternating between thoughtful and tender…and something she couldn't quite put her finger on. She wound her arms around his neck, brushing her lips against his gently. He chuckled quietly and bend down to press his lips against hers firmly. Neither was aware who had made the first move but the next moment they found themselves lying on the couch, Lucius poised over Hermione as their mouths engaged in a heated exchange.
Lucius moved one arm down to her waist as he felt her warm mouth slide over his, possessively. He chuckled as he pulled back before they went too far causing her to pull him back down with a sound of protest. "It's nearly noon. We should get something to eat", he murmured against her neck as her hands threaded their way into his hair, her fingernails grazing gently against his scalp.
He couldn't resist kissing the side of her neck as she chuckled at his pathetic excuse.
"You can do better than that my lord", she turned her head slightly to look at him and without any conscious thought, his hands moved to the buttons of her coat as his mouth covered hers again. He felt the need to be by her side almost every minute of the day, a fact he was sure could not be healthy but she didn't seem to mind.
In fact, neither of them could completely concentrate on anything when not in each other's presence and this was one of the reasons he had insisted she stay with him in the office while he did his work. He got more done when she was around…when they didn't get distracted that is!
Her hands attempting to remove his robes brought him back to reality and he helped her remove it. She could feel his hard, smooth chest and abdomen through his thin shirt and her hands fisted in his shirt as he took off her coat and began kissing the exposed skin of her neck. "Lucius", she moaned.
Even the slightest touch from him made her feel like she was on fire. A part of Lucius' mind noticed she was wearing a silk dress as he worked his way lower, her response to his touch arousing him further. He sucked in a breath as his hands made contact with her dress. He could feel the warmth of her skin seep through the material and he lowered his face to the rise of her breasts that were visible above the dress, kissing them repeatedly with a groan as his hands moved down the length of her body.
Hermione put one hand against his neck, applying enough pressure to cause him to look at her and move back up to her. "What?" she murmured, confused at the strong emotions she could see in his eyes.
He bend down and kissed her deeply, resting his head against her neck before mumbling, "Silk…on you…it's very…" Hermione bit back the laugh his response evoked.
"It makes you feel like I do when you wear velvet?" she questioned, a smirk on her face as he pressed another kiss to the side of her neck, his hands still skimming her sides. He raised his head and took in the self-satisfied expression on her face before crushing his lips against hers, his hand moving up to roughly caress her breast while she moaned into his mouth. He moved his other hand to the strap of her dress, slipping it off one shoulder and kissing it softly as she writhed against him, needing more.
"You, my dear", his husky voice shot to her core and she rubbed against him, wanting relief, "You…" he continued as he peeled the rest of her dress off, moving down to kiss the hard peaks of her exposed breasts, one after the other, "…better prepare to take a large amount of pain potion".
He took one nipple in his mouth, sucking it gently as his finger started to lazily circle her core, never touching the sensitive bud at the centre.
Hermione couldn't control her hands as they threaded through his long, golden locks of hair, pushing him closer as his hand started to manipulate her core.
A firm press of his thumb against her swollen clit was all it took for her to buckle under him and her release to flow out while she screamed his name in ecstasy. "As I said earlier", his mouth moved back to hers as his voice became even huskier, "A lot of pain potion. We've only just begun".
As she felt his member thrust into her roughly, starting to give her that delicious ache she treasured from his dark possessions, she reminded herself to wear silk more often.
His mouth descended on hers, hot and demanding, causing all other thoughts to flee from her mind as she gave herself over to him- mind, body and soul.
