The following Thursday Draco and Hermione were sitting in DADA waiting for Alex to arrive. The morning after their fight Ron had come to Hermione and apologized. However Hermione couldn't accept the apology just yet. She said she needed time and he nodded, walking away with his head hanging. They'd barely talked to each other since then and it hurt her to not have one of her best friends around. The following weekend was the night of the ball, and this weekend they were being allowed into Hogsmeade to buy costumes. Alex had told them that she was going to give them the day off, but she had a surprise for them. Upon entering the room they'd noticed the tables were rearranged to sit on the outer walls and there were two circles drawn on the floor. Draco instantly knew what was going on and smiled to himself. Pansy noticed the smile and looked at him but he shook his head. Once Alex arrived all the students settled down and she stepped into the circle at the front of the room, while Khira stepped in the other.
“Today I thought I would let you all have a bit of fun against each other. I have yet to see your dueling skills, so I wish to see them today, but first my wife and I are going to demonstrate a high ranking duel, that involves magical and physical combat” she said, pulling off her outer robes, and Draco noticed she had her training clothes underneath.
“Hey Potter!” the golden boy turned to him and glared, “Watch and learn how a real duelist fights.”
“Would someone like to call the start?” Alex looked around and nodded to Dean Thomas.
“Ready?” he asked them both and they nodded, “Begin!”
Immediately a light shot from Alex's wand. Khira countered with a shield and shot a stunner back at her, but it was blocked. As the two fought more and more, they grew closer to each other. Lights streamed across the room and a few spells occasionally went off target, aimed for the students, but they were all relieved to see that there was a barrier spell placed between them and the duel. Soon the two witches were within striking distance and Khira seemed to pick up on this, lunging for her wife and knocking her back with a kick to the chest. Quickly Alex recovered, throwing a spell and lunging at her wife at the same time. The students watched as they became a blur, using their speed against each other. They threw punches and kicks at each other but nothing seemed to land. After what seemed like twenty minutes, Khira finally swept Alex's leg, landing the witch flat on her back before kneeling on her chest, pinning her down. Khira went to pull her wand before Alex kicked her off and in a blur had Khira in a headlock with her wand pressed to the blonds cheek.
“Do you yield?” she asked with a smile.
“Always” Khira said with a smirk as the students applauded, before Alex let go of her and helped her up.
“Did you all enjoy the show?” Alex asked, looking around at them all and they nodded, “Good, because now its time for another pair to do so. I have to say out of all of the groups here the one I want to see most is Granger and Malfoy.”
“You sure about that Professor?” Dean asked and she nodded.
“I'm sure. Granger, you take the spot Khira had and Malfoy take my spot” she said and once they were in place and said they were ready she told them to begin.
The two students instantly fired stunners and cast shields to block them, but Hermione kept her shield up. As Draco fired more and more spells at her, they would hit her shield, and he quickly caught on.
“Won't work Granger!” he sneered at her, and she smirked back.
“Let's see what you got Malfoy!”
Draco answered with three quick spells thrown at her, each hitting the shield. He wasn't expecting her to hold the shield this long in front of people, and after two more spells knew it was going to be at it's limits. Alex must have noticed as well, because he saw her strengthen the shielding spell around the students. He made a side glance at Alex and she nodded to him, knowing what he was about to do. He readied himself for the next spell and waited for her to fire one last stunner at him before doing what needed done.
“I'm through with these games Granger!” he yelled, throwing one final spell at her, but she blocked it and fired the shield at him, “Protego!”
The light inside the room was blinding and everyone shielded their eyes as the force of Hermione's spell collided with Draco's shield. Draco could feel the power behind it and fell to his knees from the strain on his shield. As the light subsided they all looked up to see Draco was still holding, but he lowered it upon seeing the witch across the room from him. Hermione had been thrown back and was looking around dazed. Khira walked over and checked on her, before nodding to Alex, as Harry and Ron rushed over.
“You alright Hermione?” Harry asked and she nodded.
“I'm just dizzy” she said quietly.
“You're lucky to be alive Ms. Granger” she looked up and saw Alex glaring at her, “That's the second time I've seen you use that technique and the first time you could have nearly killed your opponent, but this time you nearly would have killed yourself. Until you are better trained you will stop using that shield and magic absorption spell combination like you have been. Is that clear?”
“Yes Professor” she said, nodding slowly.
“Those who are ignorant are known for their weakness. However it takes a man admitting his ignorance to show his true strength” she said and Hermione looked up at her, and saw her wink, “It applies to more of us than we wish to admit Ms. Granger. Because Mr. Malfoy won the duel, I will award Slytherin twenty house points. However, for her inventive use of a spell, I will award Ms. Granger five points, but also a warning that if I see that technique used again, it will be followed up with points lost and detention for a month” Hermione nodded and stood up, moving back over towards her spot. She glared at the blond when Draco moved next to her, and whispered a quick sorry.
“Blimey Hermione! That was an impressive spell” Seamus said, and she shrugged, “Too bad Malfoy blocked it eh? Be a load of fun to see him fallen on his arse.”
“Mr. Finnegan, you will watch your language in this classroom” Alex replied, and he nodded, turning back to the Gryffindors, “You figure she's got something going on with her? Let's her hear across classrooms?”
“You didn't see that speed during the duel Finnegan?” Draco replied casually, “She's half vampire.”
“How would you know this Malfoy?”
“I was staying at her house the entire summer you prat” he said, and Hermione could tell he was getting angry.
“Calm down Malfoy! He was only asking” she said quickly.
“So Hermione, got any plans for the ball?” Seamus asked, and she looked at him and shook her head.
“I already have a date Seamus” she said and he looked surprised.
“At least you're not going with Malfoy” he said and people snickered around them.
“We have to sit together and dance together anyway” she said and the Gryffindors near her all gasped.
“What?” Dean asked and she nodded, before Alex stopped the duels just as Neville got knocked down by Daphne Greengrass.
“I see we're going to get nowhere since you all have your heads in the clouds about the ball” she said and turned to them, “Out with it Mr. Finnegan and Mr. Thomas. What seems to be more important?”
“Is it true Hermione has to dance with Malfoy?” Dean asked and she nodded.
“I take it none of you realized that the first dance is traditionally between the Head students and two staff members alongside a partner of their choice as a sign of unity among the houses?” Alex asked and they all shook their heads, “Headmaster Dumbledore and Professor McGonagall will be dancing together as well as the head students, and myself and Khira.”
“Why doesn't Snape dance with you?” Seamus asked and there were snickers before Khira hissed, silencing them.
“Calm yourself Khira! He was only joking” Alex said, resting her hand on her wife's arm “Mr. Finnegan, while it would be a thought, it is not a happy one to even attempt to dance with the Potions Professor. Due to my wife's line of work, the two of them do not get along, and as such I would not insult her by dancing with a fellow Potion Master. I would have more happiness from being able to have my wife on my arm that night rather than the bat of the dungeons.”
The students all snickered at this and nodded, allowing the duels to begin again. By the end of class Harry had won, but so had Pansy against Ron, Bullstrode against Lavender, and Dean had beaten Crabbe instantly, due to him taking a stunner to the chest. Alex thought it best to leave it at that. She let them go and waited for them to leave the room before locking the door and turning to her wife.
“You didn't have to hiss at Finnegan for the joke Khira” she growled.
“The fact he brought that bastard into the conversation-” she was cut off by Alex's gaze and whimpered upon seeing her face, “I'm sorry babe.”
Alex lowered her gaze to the necklace around her wife's neck and she reached for it, taking the locket in her hands. She ran her thumb over it a few times before unlocking it and staring at the photo inside it, smiling as the image moved. It was a picture of herself and Khira on their wedding day.
“What's going on Khira? What are you hiding from me?” she asked, continuing to look at the photos.
“I can't tell you Alex” she said quietly.
“Khira I'm tired of you hiding things from me. I want to know what's going on! You've been hiding something from me for nearly two weeks now and keeping your walls up. I'm your wife and mate and I deserve to know” Alex said quietly and the blond sighed and sat at one of the desks.
“I can't carry the baby if we have one Alex.”
“What?”
“Before we came back here I went to have a physical at the hospital. While I was there I found out I'm not able to have children. We've never discussed it so I never considered it to be a major factor. They said it's likely I was never able to all along. When I saw how you were around all the students I kept thinking how wonderful it'd be for us to have a child and it devastated me to know I could never provide that for us” she said, looking up at Alex with tears in her eyes.
“Why didn't you tell me when you found out?” Alex asked, sitting next to her.
“I didn't want to upset you.”
The two of them sat there for a few moments thinking over all that was said. Alex adored her wife, and she would do anything for her. Her vampire blood warred with her over this though, because she was the alpha in their relationship. By law it was Khira's job to bare any children they decided to have, not hers. Sure they could always adopt, but the idea didn't sit well with her. If they had children she'd want one of their own. She glanced sideways at her wife and noticed the anguish written all over her face, and it broke her heart to see it.
“I'll do it” Khira's eyes shot up and she stared at her as she whispered this.
“What?”
“If we both survive the war, and we still want children, I'll carry the child. I refuse to adopt though” she stated moving to kneel in front of her wife, “I can't stand to see you torn up so much about all this love. Yes, it is against the rules, but since when have we ever followed them? We shouldn't be denied the right to be parents simply because of rules.”
“Alex...” Khira covered her mouth as tears started falling freely before she lunged forward and hugged her wife, “Thank you.”
“I love you, there is no reason to thank me.”
That weekend Draco was sitting in the common room reading when Hermione walked downstairs. She had her purse and was getting ready to leave. He'd just gotten dressed and was wearing a charcoal gray sweater and pants, with a jacket when she exited her room.
“I really do hate us having to wait until all the students are in the village before joining them” Hermione said, and he nodded.
“So, any idea on what you're going to be dressing as for the ball?” Draco asked with a smile.
“Well, I was thinking of a powder blue dress with a silver mask if I can find one” she said, looking innocently at him.
“Maybe I should dress in opposite of that then? Wear some black slacks, silver vest, and blue mask, with silver cloak?” he asked and she smiled.
“That would be nice” she said, and smiled when she felt him press his lips to hers lightly, “Unfortunately we can't stay here and do this. We need to go down to the village. I'm supposed to meet Ginny at the gate.”
“Alex asked me if Blaise and I wished to join her and Khira and all four of us go together.”
“So I guess I'll see you later today?” she asked and he nodded before they both walked out to meet their friends.
An hour later Draco and Blaise were running down the street being chased by a small bear and were laughing. They had just left Honeydukes and were joking about Khira when she shifted into her animagus and started growling at Draco, and pretending to attack him. They continued running down the street until they ran into the clothing store. Khira changed back upon reaching the door and waited for Alex, and they both walked in with smiles on their faces. Draco and Blaise were already looking at the dress shirts and slacks. Just then an attendant walked over and smiled at the two young men.
“Welcome to Silk and Stitch. My name is Holly, and how can I help you gentlemen today?” she asked, batting her eyelashes at Blaise.
“We're looking for some costumes for the Halloween ball at Hogwarts but also need to have it be masquerade. I wanted to resemble Zorro and I need to find something that has a little Spanish flare” Blaise replied and she nodded.
“And you sir?”
“I really wasn't wanting a costume as much as just a vest and shirt combo and some slacks, with a cloak” Draco said and she nodded.
“With that combo you could go as a phantom. Did you have any colors in mind?”
“The phantom idea is fine with me. For colors, black slacks with a light blue shirt, silver vest, and mask to match the shirt” he said and she nodded, directing him to the back to get his measurements before turning to Blaise again.
“How about you? Any colors you wish to have that are specific?”
“I was thinking a pair of black slacks as well, black shirt, with a red sash around the waist, a black and silver pinstripe vest and red and black cloak.”
“Well if you step in the back, we will be with you shortly to get your measurements” she replied, and once he left she turned to Alex and Khira, “Hello ladies, how may I help you today?”
“We decided for our costumes we'd go for a more mafioso style. So of course, I'm needing the suit while my wife here needs a dress to match” Alex stated and Khira nodded.
“Was there any specific colors or styles you wanted on the dress and suit?”
“What do you think love? Silver for the dress?” Alex asked and Khira shook her head.
“I was thinking maybe green and a mask that was green as well” she said and Alex smirked, Khira sending her an image of what she was thinking privately.
“For the dress it will be green, with a slit down the side, but not too far up. Sleeveless, but let it fasten at the top of the neck so it has some support. Don't need her accidentally revealing-”
“Alex!” Khira screeched, glaring at her wife who chuckled.
“Just slightly modest, but still classy” Alex stated and the girl nodded.
“Any specifics on a mask and on the suit colors?”
“I want the mask to be green as well of course with gold floral patterns on it” Khira stated and the attendant nodded, turning to Alex.
“Black with charcoal gray pinstripes, green undershirt, and silver tie. The mask can be gold with green accents to mirror my wife's.”
“Alright, if you want to move to the back we'll get your measurements, and once that is done we can find you some samples to try on.”
Alex nodded and followed Khira to the back, to find Draco glowering at the girl getting his measurements. She was taking an extremely long time getting his pants measurements and kept trying to fondle different parts of him. Upon being told to stop by Alex she listened immediately, and got his measurements. Once they had the two witches measured and they had chosen their specific materials and patterns, they all paid for their clothes and were told they would arrive in one to two days. They decided to go have lunch at the Three Broomsticks and upon walking in, found a booth towards the back. They each ordered sandwiches and talked about random stuff. Once done eating they began walking back to the school. Alex and Khira were walking ahead and talking to each other, with Blaise behind them. Draco had noticed Hermione was at Honeydukes and growled upon seeing McLaggen talking to her. He shook his head after a second and kept walking, before falling over and crying out in pain.
“Draco?!” Alex yelled, running back to him and canceling the charm on him “Draco what happened?”
“Crutiatus...curse. Don't...feel so...good” he stuttered, before passing out.
“Khira go get Pomfrey and McGonagall” she yelled and the witch nodded, before Alex levitated the blond up to the castle.
“Hermione what's wrong?” Ginny asked noticing her friend wince suddenly, before the brunette turned to look out the window.
“Oh Merlin! What happened?” she asked, seeing him being levitated away.
“I don't know. Go find out and we'll talk later” the red head replied, seeing the concern in her friends eyes, “I'll take your stuff back to the castle for you.”
“Thanks Ginny” Hermione replied, dashing out the door and running back to the castle.
Upon reaching the hospital wing Hermione was stunned to find Draco passed out on the bed. She went to rush over to him, but was stopped by Alex, who told her what happened. She asked to speak to her in private and led the girl to the back of the wing where no one would hear them.
“Hermione he was hit with the Crutiatus curse.”
“What?!”
“I canceled the spell the second I saw him get hit with it.”
“Is he going to be alright?”
“Pomfrey is checking right now, but she said she thinks he'll be fine. It forced a secondary transformation we weren't expecting though.”
“What do you mean?”
“Remember when Draco arrived at Harry's aunts house and his hair was longer and he was taller?” Hermione nodded at this and she continued, “When he inherited his veela blood he inherited part of the traits. However, he didn't gain it all at once. I believe he's gaining the rest now but slowly. It takes time for it to happen and his hair is going to have silver blond streaks in it and he'll be about three inches taller than he was.”
“Is this going to effect him in any way?”
“Not that we can be sure of. I am glad you're here though, because you need to stay with him until it finishes.”
“What do you mean Alex? Why do I need to stay with him?” she saw Alex sigh and readied herself for bad news.
“Draco may feel rejected if you are not around him if you are around him during the transformation and he may get very sick” she explained and Hermione nodded, remembering how they felt over just a couple days.
“Alright I'll stay with him” she said, and the older witch nodded, leading her over to the bed where Draco was laying. Hermione sat down in a chair and took Draco's hand in hers, willing him to wake up.
It wasn't until the following Tuesday that Draco awoke. His body had already shifted, and had healed. Hermione had refused to leave his bedside in the evenings, so Alex persuaded Pomfrey to move him out of sight from others so they wouldn't be noticed. Upon waking up he noted that Khira was sitting in a chair next to him reading, Hermione was asleep on his left with her hand reaching for his but not holding it, and Alex was sleeping in her chair as well in front of him.
“Hey, you finally woke up” Khira said and he reached up to rub his eyes.
“What happened? He asked groggily.
“You blacked out after the spell hit you. We thought after your first transformation you had finished but it seems there was more to come. You've had a few changes since then.”
“What changes?” he looked at her wearily.
“Your hair is going to have silver blond streaks in it and you're a few inches taller. I see now though that your eyes have silver flecks in them now too. Hermione has been hating this past few days though.”
“Why?”
“The first couple days you were feverish, and she was worried sick. It took nearly seventy-two hours for the transformation to complete itself. After that we allowed her to sit here with you when she wasn't busy doing homework. She's not been allowed to touch you though since the first time she did and you reacted in a certain way” he noticed her sheepish grin and he groaned, “You're lucky it was only me, Alex, and Hermione who saw it.”
“I got aroused just by her touch?”
“It happens to the best of us in reaction to our mates” she said, just as Alex stirred.
“So the horny fainter is awake?” she opened her eyes and smirked at him.
“Piss off Alex” he said and she chuckled, before he turned to look at the young witch in front of him “How long has she been asleep?”
“About three hours now. She hasn't been sleeping and Pomfrey caught her after she came up here the other night and fell asleep” Khira stated as he looked down at the witch and shook his head, leaning forward to brush a strand of hair out of her eyes.
“Let's wake her up” Alex said, standing up and moving towards the young witch, nudging her shoulder, “Hermione, he's awake!”
“What?” she asked, glaring at the older witch before turning; her eyes landed on Draco, who was smiling at her, “Draco?”
“Hey beautiful” he said and she instantly stood up and hugged him.
“I'm so glad you're alright” she breathed in deeply and sighed.
“You shouldn't worry about me” he said and she rolled her eyes.
“You were hit with a Crutiatus curse Draco. I have a right to worry.”
“I know you two want to continue this little love fest, but right now we need to discuss what happened” Alex stated, waving her wand as a privacy spell surrounded them, “Whoever attacked you Draco knew I wasn't watching, and waited until then to attack. From the angle of the attack, I'd say they were either in Honeydukes, or near there. Someone specifically waited until I was out of the way to attack you, which means we're dealing with a strategist.”
“I heard the person mumble it before it happened” he said quietly.
“That means they were right behind us. Did you recognize the voice?”
“No, but I know it's a student and it was a female. That's as much as I could get out of it” he replied.
“Then we need to be cautious. Are you sure you both still want to come out to the school on Saturday?”
“Yes” they both replied and she nodded.
“Alright, here's how we'll do it” she said, leaning over towards them.
Saturday evening Draco was in his room getting ready. As he pulled on his vest and buttoned it he turned and checked his outfit in the mirror. It looked perfect and the light blue color actually made the color of his eyes stand out more. He pulled his mask out of the box, placing it on his face taking one last look in the mirror and smirked, before pulling on his cloak and walking to the common room. He had just entered when he heard the door to Hermione's room open and turned to her, but was stunned by what he saw. Hermione's dress flowed freely down her body and ended just above her knees. There were floral patterns across the waist and arm bands that were silver, and the mask she wore fit perfectly. As she stepped closer she smiled twirled a little.
“How do I look?”
“One word: WOW” he said and she giggled, kissing him lightly.
“You look very handsome yourself. The blue and silver suits you.”
“Shall we?” he asked, holding out his arm and she nodded, linking hers with his.
As they walked down to the Great Hall they noticed a lot of students had already arrived. Upon reaching the landing they looked around at everyone and noticed Khira and Alex against a far wall and the two waved them over. Khira's hair was now a slightly darker red color, and the dress left very little to the imagination. It was a dark green dress that flowed down her body and had an open back. When she would turn a faint set of scars would show across her shoulder, but Alex was doing a number hiding them with her hand across her wife's shoulder. Her mask was a dark green with gold floral pattern and she looked stunning. Alex on the other hand looked every bit the mafioso, with the suit but her mask instead of a fedora made the look work. The mask was a gold with green accents on it, to match Khira's dress. The two of them smiled as they approached and Draco couldn't help the small smile that graced his features.
“Do you think people will recognize us?” Hermione asked and Alex nodded.
“They will for you two, but not the rest of them. Dumbledore and I finished the spell with Flitwick earlier. Now we just need to wait for it to reach midnight. Remember what we said. Don't accept any drinks of food from anyone” she said and they nodded.
“Here, take these” Khira handed them two vials and they looked strangely at them, “They'll detect if the punch is spiked with anything. Put a couple drops in your drink and if it is spiked, the drink will turn blue. It won't effect the color or taste otherwise.”
“Thanks” Hermione said, just as McGonagall and Dumbledore walked over.
“Since we're all here, then might I suggest we allow the students into the hall and let the ball begin?” Dumbledore asked and they nodded.
The students all gasped upon entering the Great Hall. The house tapestries had been replaced with many different silver and gold cloth sashes. The head table had been replaced with a DJ booth where Draco and Hermione noticed that the DJ was playing a soft waltz. The house tables were now several tables around the room, each holding a gold or silver tablecloth with candles in the center. Draco and Hermione looked at each other before he nodded, leading her over to the table where Harry and Ron were sitting. Blaise and Pansy joined them shortly along with Theo and Ginny, the Slytherins on one side, while the Gryffindors sat on another. Dumbledore and McGonagall moved up to the front of the room and smiled at the students before Dumbledore pointed his wand at his throat and they all quieted down.
“Thank you all for coming to this year's Halloween masquerade ball. The staff, head students, and prefects have all worked especially hard for this event to come to life. At this time I would like to give special thanks to Professors Flitwick and Kruss for their work on the special charm in place for tonight. Until midnight this charm will not allow any of you to remove your masks, state your names, or reveal the identity of anyone around you” Whispers broke out all over the hall as he said this, and he motioned for them all to calm down. “This spell is intended to allow all students to speak freely among others and mingle without fear of being treated wrongly by fellow students because they are from specific houses. Also, I would like to thank Professor Kruss for arranging for our DJ this evening, all the way from the Pale Moon club in Russia, we wish to welcome Valya Romanov.”
The students all clapped as Valya waved at them and shook hands with the Headmaster. He walked over and shook Alex's hand as well and kissed her cheek before walking back to the booth and setting up some more music. Once he nodded to the Headmaster, Dumbledore turned back towards the students and smiled.
“It is at this time, that I request that our Head Boy and Head Girl join myself, Professor Kruss, and our partners on the dance floor for the opening dance. Mr. Malfoy and Ms. Granger if you will?” he said, nodding to them and they stood up and walked through the crowd.
“You nervous?” Draco asked and she nodded lightly, “Just follow my lead the same way we did that night at the club.”
She nodded again as the music started and let him take the lead as they waltzed around the small room. He smiled lightly at her as they danced and looked around behind them at all the students watching. Glancing over at Khira and Alex he saw them dancing close together and laughing as Alex said something to her privately. Soon more couples started joining them and he relaxed upon seeing Harry and Ginny dancing nearby. He nodded his head to Harry and received a nod back as the raven haired boy passed by them. As the first song ended they all turned and applauded the DJ before Draco led Hermione off the floor to the table they were at, where Ron and Pansy were sitting across from each other. Upon arriving back at the table the two instantly shut up. Ron stood up and walked out of the hall and Hermione looked at Draco who nodded and she followed him. As she exited the hall she found him standing near the railing and walked over to him. They'd barely talked since his outburst and she wanted her friend back.
“You should just tell her you like her” she said and he turned to look at her.
“What are you on about?” he mumbled.
“I miss having my friend around Ron, but you need to move on. Maybe Pansy can help you with that” she said quietly.
“After what I said do you really think she'll believe me?” he turned and looked at her she shook her head, but smiled at him none the less.
“Ron, if she makes you happy then the least you can do is give it a chance. I want you to be as happy as I am with Draco” he sighed and she wrapped her arm around his shoulders leaning in to whisper to him, “Give her a chance and see what happens.”
“I'll try Hermione.”
“Good! Now do I have to beg you or can I get a dance? You owe me one anyway since I haven't danced with you at the club yet either.”
“Alright” he said with a chuckle and they walked back inside.
Draco watched as Hermione and Weasley danced and was happy to see her smiling. He knew Weasley liked Pansy, but also still liked Hermione. He just hoped that he could get over Hermione and take a chance with Pansy. He turned to Pansy and said he was going to go get something to drink and she nodded before he stood up and walked over to the punch bowl. He got himself a drink and put a couple drops of the potion in the drink to find it stayed the same color. He placed the potion vial back in his pocket before walking over to the DJ booth. Valya was standing near the edge of the booth and smiled at him as he approached.
“You were at the club this summer no?” he asked as Draco approached and the blond nodded, “I remember you! Andrei never shut up about you.”
“What was he saying?” Draco asked, looking through the songs he had to offer to be played.
“That you were a friend of Alex and Khira, but he never said much else” Valya looked sheepishly at him and Draco nodded.
“This song here, do you have a sample I could hear of it?” Draco asked, pointing to the book and Valya looked before nodding and handing him some headphones to listen through. Draco smiled upon hearing the song and nodded, handing the headphones back, “That song's perfect! Can you play that as the last song possibly?”
“Sure!” Valya said and Draco nodded, thanking him before walking back to the table. He arrived to find Hermione was back from dancing and Alex and Khira had sat down as well, Khira having pulled her shoes off.
“The plan is set” he said, sitting down next to Hermione and Alex nodded.
“Last song?” the dark haired witch asked and he nodded, “Perfect.”
Draco and the others continued dancing with each other and just talking and laughing. At one point Ron asked Pansy to dance and Draco watched as the two disappeared in the crowd, but never returned. He looked over at Alex as she sat down and she smirked. As the night grew to an end Hermione and him started dancing again and just enjoying their time together. Pretty soon it was almost midnight and he smiled at her, before seeing Valya look over at him and nod.
“Lads and ladies! We have a special request for the final song of the evening. So for all you couples out there grab your partners and enjoy the last dance!” Valya's voice boomed across the room.
“Are you ready for this?” he asked and she nodded, before he pulled her close and led them through the crowd to the center of the dance floor.
As the music floated across the room she smiled hearing the song, Back At One by Brian McKnight start playing. She looked up at Draco and smiled letting the words of the song guide her emotions. More couples joined them on the dance floor and Hermione noticed Alex and Khira had joined as well. Suddenly she heard Draco singing along to the song and looked up to see him smiling at her. She smiled back and rested her head against his shoulder as the song continued. Draco then looked up and met Alex's eyes and she nodded to him.
As the song ended Draco looked down at her and she smiled up at him. He leaned down and pressed his lips to hers just as there was a ringing around the hall signaling it was midnight. He pulled back and removed his mask, and she removed hers, many people gasping as they saw them. Whispers erupted around them and even a few people started hissing
“I should have told you this weeks ago, but was too scared to do so” he said quietly, “I love you Hermione.”
“I love you too Draco” she said, wrapping her arms around his neck and kissing him again.
From behind them they heard clapping and turned to see Alex had removed her mask and was clapping. Soon Khira, Harry, and Ginny joined her, before most of the students started clapping and cheering. The cheering subsided though when there was movement to Draco's left and he heard someone mumble a curse before a red light sped towards Hermione. He pulled her out of the way just as a shield was erected around them and the spell ricocheted into the ceiling. Everyone turned towards where the light had come from and gasped as the attacker was revealed.
Review responses:
@Luminari_Lilium: I hope the font is better now. I figured out which one seems to work best. I'm going to probably go through each chapter and change them to fit the same text size. This website's editing for stories is a major pain in the ass.
@anaidra: LONG TIME NO SEE! I was starting to wonder if you were still reading this. Hope you enjoyed this chapter as well.
@Luckylishy: Glad you enjoyed the story, and hope you enjoyed this chapter as well.
