John's POV
I awaken from an unrestful sleep. Not having my mates around me affects me in ways I had never realized it ever would. I get out of the magical tent that I had brought for myself and see that Tia is leaving hers as well. Thankfully she appears more awake than I am. I notice her eyes on me and quickly head back into the tent, realizing that I had developed the habit of sleeping nude around my mates. If I could blush I would undoubtedly have a red face right now. I quickly dressed and made my way out of the tent, seeing Tia packing up her tent, giving me a smirk. "Forget you weren't at home?" I look down for a moment before looking her in the eyes. "Don't worry, I won't tell your mates. Maybe."
"Yeah, yeah. Can we just get moving?" Tia laughs.
"Wow. That really embarassed you. It's not like I haven't seen a cock before. I have mostly male mates, you know, as well as one of my own."
"It's not that. I just think there are somethings you don't need to see."
As we eventually start moving we begin talking about various things, not the least of which being how much progress Hermy has made. "I'm serious, John. You and your mates have made a world of difference in her life. She's so much more... Adjusted. It's like she's a new person now."
"Oh, I know, believe me. She's sooo much better. It's just a shame her father's going to try to rape her again." Tia stops dead in her tracks and imediately changes into her other form in rage.
"WHAT!?" I stop and look back at her, my eyes and the skin around them being the only thing that have changed. "And you ARE going to try to stop him, right John?" I don't answer right away, which pisses her off even more. "RIGHT JOHN?!?"
"And how do you propose I stop him? It has to be. There's no other way. The moment he attempts it Hermione will move past her insecurities and put his head through the wall. She will stop seeing him as her father and start seeing him as a monster. If I try to stop it before that happens she will never take that last step." Tia scoffs at me.
"And if you don't try to stop it she will realize you knew what was going to happen and that you put her in that situation. You will lose her trust. And MINE."
"SHE IS STERILE! Her body and mind are working with her magic to stop her from ever hitting her heat because of what her father did to her and the only way to fix it is for her to confront her father! I will warn her ahead of time, but that is ALL I CAN DO." Black tears pour from my eyes, falling to the ground and burning the grass. "If there was any other way I would change it. But I can't." Tia softens at that, seeing how it affects me. She pulls me close to her in a friendly hug.
"Okay. It's okay. I trust you. But it just sucks that he gets to even touch her again." The hug ends and I quickly compose myself. "I wonder what our mates are doing."
Ash's point of view
Most of the people in the house are out in the kitchen getting something to eat. I am sitting in Jess' lap while she strokes my hair as I feed on her generoulsly exposed shoulder. Most people think that vampires require massive amounts of blood to survive, which isn't true. A few sips feed us for a week, and our magic closes the wounds our teeth make while the venom actually improves the health of our feeder, even more so if that feeder is our mate (or one of them in my case). My mother is in the room, telling my mates the process of how I become pregnant. "Basically, his body will change to a more feminine form, similar to the way a banshee's would. However, if the pregnancy takes, he will remain female and will adopt a feminine persona, prefering to be called 'she' and 'her' by everybody. 'She' will only be pregnant for 7 months, and will prefer dark places to concel herself incase of attack. But 'she' will insist on being by all of you, for all hours of the day." I finish feeding and Jess moans slightly. She looks at me and kisses me lightly.
"Since we're talking about pregnant mates, I think SOMEBODY needs to sit down." At that moment Parvati, who was pacing all around the room, looks at her increduosly.
"How can you be so calm? He's not here! Why is it taking so long? I need him back here! The babies need him back!" She resumes her pacing and it begins to make me nervous, like something really bad is about to happen. Tia's mates walk into the room and just as they do Parvati trips. We all watch in horror as she is headded right towards the hard wood of the table just when Fred and George quickly catch her. I notice a tear leak out of Jess' eye and she looks at Parvati sadly.
"Parvati, Fred and George just saved our baby's lives. That fall would have put all of your weight on your stomach on the side of the table and ended them forever. Please just sit down? Please?"
Parvati sits down and begins crying when my mother gets up from her spot and grabs parvati's face, forcing her to look into her eyes. This action causes nearly everyone around the table to get up and make their way towards her, intent on stopping what was happening. However, Jess pulls me off of her lap and gets between them, blocking them. "Thank you, my dear. Now, Parvati, is it?" Parvati nods. "Look deep into my eyes. Deep into them. Do you see the light?" Parvati nods, never taking her eyes away from my mother's. "Good. I could hypnotise you to make you calm down and sleep. Would you like that? I promise it would wear off in a day." Parvati nods as the tears continue to pour from her eyes, still locked with my mother's. "Okay, my dear." They stare at eachother and in a few seconds Parvati closes her eyes and begins snoring lightly. My mother then lifts her up and carries her to our room, my mates following close behind and me with them. She places Parvati on the bed and leaves the room, padma going over to her sister and holding her close as she sleeps. I look over at Jess and notice her smiling faintly at me.
"Hey, my little vamp, don't worry. She's going to be just fine. I promise."
"But shouldn't it be me freaking out rather than her?" Cassi takes this moment to interject.
"If you were the one freaking out I'd be more than happy to 'calm you down'!" Jess snikers at that, as do the rest of our mates aside from the two gemini.
"The answer would be yes, if you weren't so well adjusted to this world and the darkness within it. It feels good to be home, doesn't it?" I blush and nod again. "You know you look extra cute when you blush like that, right?" I just look down at the ground slightly embarassed, but Jess puts her hand under my chin and lifts my head up to look at her again. "Hey... Cute is good. Cute is very good..." She kisses me again and I moan, feeling myself grow hard. "Oooh, exited, huh?" I bite my lip.
"Very..." The girls all giggle at that, but all to soon the kisses stop and Jess' eyes go dark for a moment, meaning she's having a vision. Her eyes return to normal a minute later and she looks up into my eyes with a somewhat sad look on her face.
"I'm really sorry, Ashley, but this is going to have to wait until later. Parvati and Padma's parents are coming up to check on their daughters and they really shouldn't see us mating." I nod and reluctantly break apart from my second most dominant mate, focusing on regaining my composure and sitting down on the bed next to Hermione, who pulls me closer to sit in her lap. She nuzzles me as Farah, Reana and Rajesh Patil walk into the room, immediately walking over to Parvati and Padma on the bed. Farah and Reana look almost exactly like older versions of Parvati and Padma, and it is easy to guess that the two of them are Hindu Gemini as well. Farah begins stroking Parvati's back and Reana hugs Padma close to her. Rajesh speaks first, his voice filled with concern for his daughters.
"When were you going to tell us that your sister was pregnant, my child?" He was very calm about it, not quite how I would have expected a father in his situation to be.
"In another month. She's due in December."
"With all due respect, Mr. Patil, it was our whole family that decided to wait, incase something happened and the babies didn't survive." Jess had taken the moment to interject, and Rajesh seems to be considering her answer before he responds. He nods to himself and smiles at her.
"That was a very wise decision, Ms. Firemind. My wives and I are most appreciative that you wished to spare us heartbreak." Reana and Farah simply nod. "When she wakes up, I would wish to speak with her."
"I will pass along that message to her." Rajesh leaves the room and his two wives reluctantly follow him, kissing their daughter's cheeks before leaving as well. Jess sighs and leans against the wall. "Why do I get the feeling I just got our Parvi in more trouble?"
John's POV"You're joking, right?"
"I swear to you know, Tia, she looked like an angel. Wings and everything."
"Why would an angel be witness to your mother's death? Doesn't that seem kind of... I don't know... Contrary?"
"I'm just telling you what I saw. You asked, remember?" Tia scoffed at that.
"I asked you what your most vivid memory of your mother was, not about the day she died." The two of us reach a clearing with the river pooling in a horseshoe like pattern.
"We can discuss it later. We are here." In the middle of the clearing there is an ancient metal gateway with a yellow-skinned elf standing guard in the dead center. "Oh, great. A wood elf. There goes Mr. Wood's theory that this place doesn't exist, huh?" The Elf turned his gaze to me at that remark.
"State your purpose here, outsiders." Tia and I change to our true selves and the Elf bows as if on instinct.
"I am Zalina Timaltalu, and I am here to enter my rightful place as Ruler of the Other."
"I am Ronehviir, and I am here to enter her world with her, and in doing so open the doors to my Kingdom." The Elf looks astonished at our presence here.
"So the ledgends WERE true. The Other Queen and the Dovah King are here at last. Before you enter, there are three tests. The first test shows you the truth and gauges how you handle it. The second test shows you tradgedy and gauges your compassion. The third tests the validity of your claim. We will start now." The Elf begins chanting some strange giberish and the world around us shifts to a slightly cloudy day and we are standing on a hill overlooking a very large mansion. There apear to be wizards flying around outside of the mansion on broomsticks.
"Well, this is cozy. Wish I'd packed lunch. Maybe we could all have a picnic-" I stop mid sentence as the spines on my back rise in reaction to the dark figure I see, cloaked in darkness, almost quite literally.
"John, that's one of my properties. The one were IT happend. Goddess, why are we back here?" A small glimmer of realization hits the two of us and I step back.
"This is that day, isn't it? The day Draco lost the baby..." Her eyes well up with tears as the figure waves his hands around and summons a great storm. I quickly turn to Tia. "He fell from so high up, there's no way he survived on his own. We need to choose fast. Don't interfere, and he may die. Interfere, and only the baby dies. Can you make that decision?" Tia shakes her head violently, unwilling to sentence Draco to death, but unable to sentence her child to death either. "Then it's a good thing I can. Stay away from that thing. I'll change the past so both survive. I promise you." She simply nods her head and I take off to the sky, watching as Draco begins to fall from the broom and I quickly grab onto his hand as I fly by. However, his scream is throwing my sense of balance off and I find my grip slipping. The world seems to freeze for a split second as his hand slips out of mine and he resumes his fall, though fortunately from a far less deadly height. I scream out to him to go limp and try again to catch him, but the scream has me way off balance as I narrowly miss the ground and miss my intended target, catching only air and wind in my face. I hear past-Tia scream and know that I need to leave before I am seen and blamed for this mess. I quickly fly back to the hill and immeadiately tackle the bat-winged black creature. "I know a wraith when I see one. WHY did you pick him?"
"Why not? I was hungry, and I couldn't resist a pregnant creature. Two meals for the price of one. Who could resist?" I snarl at the thing, my rage at how cold and caloused it could be towards life making me access parts of my inheritance I never knew were possible. Fire pours from my mouth as I bite its shoulder, causing it to scream out. "I'll kill your mates for that, boy!" Tia looks up at that, the tears still fresh in her eyes. I snort at the creature.
"You won't live long enough." The wraith laughed.
"Ah, defiance. Your mother was defiant as well. Until I threatened to gut you, that is. Then she started crying like a little baby for me to leave you alone. And if you hadn't killed me, I guarantee I would have gutted you." My eyes grow wide as I look over at Tia, who is also wide-eyed and staring at the wraith. "Maybe I'll do that to your most submissive mate. Gut them, I mean. Then we can start the fun with your other-" I breathe fire on his head to shut him up. He eventually passes out from the pain, but he is fairly in tact, the fire only burning the top layer of skin. I throw him at the feet of the elf, who looks at the wraith with distain.
"That thing... John... He wanted to kill Draco too?" I nod at her and she sniffs for a moment before regaining her composure. "I saw what happened from here. You couldn't save the baby, but you saved Draco. I... Thank you for that." The elf returns us to the current day, with our new prisoner in tow. I grab a few ropes and cloths to tie it's arms together behind it's back, and to gag it so that neither of us would hear it talk when it woke up. The elf spoke up.
"You passed the first test, My Queen. The test of Knowledge. And for what it is worth, I am sorry." Tia glares at the elf for a moment.
"Let's just get this over with, shall we? What's next?" The scene changes around us again as soon as she finishes speaking to a small town in the middle of winter. Infront of us is my family home, and a shiver causes my spines to stand again.
"Oh, great, more family trauma for the two of us. Lovely." I turn to the elf and resist the urge to spit at him. Our prisoner is over his shoulder and still knocked out. "Fuck you, elf. If this is what I think it is..." I can’t finish my mind won’t let the words come to my mouth.
“John? What is it?” Tia asks placing a hand gently on my arm, the feathers of her left wing lightly brushing the scales of my right at the close proximity. I open my mother to tell her, to let her know what this is but again no sound comes out but tears sting my eyes and threaten to fall. Tia looks around taking in our surroundings and thinking about what I had said before sadness took away my power of speech. I take my eyes off of my childhood home and look at the elf that had brought this upon us. The bastard has a smug look in his eyes, almost daring us to fail his stupid test.
“Is this the day your mum died?” Tia’s soft voice is a balm to my frayed nerves. I nod as on traitorous tear escapes the prison of my eye. Tia takes my hand and leads me quietly into the house. “Show me where?” I allow her to lead me thru the door and we hear the sounds of the asshole that ruined my life beating my mother.
“This way.” I choke out and drop my friend’s hand leading her thru the house to where it happened. We reach the door to the living room and peek around the corner. Inside is the same wrath that is now across the shoulder of the elf outside. I see little me cowering where I was hidden in the dark corner of the room and I see the sight that haunts my every nightmare, my mother being beaten to death, again. I want to jump in and save her but I can’t move. The tears are coming freely now, I don’t even care. Tia is my friend, she won’t think I’m weak. She cried in front of me and I saw it as strength, I know she will feel the same.
“John, do you want me to do anything?” She asks.
“No.” I mutter. “It will sort itself out in the end. I… I need my mates.” She looks at me, I can’t see the look on her face, I’m too focused on the scene before me to see her emotions, only that she looked up at me.
“They can’t be here John, you know that. It’s too dangerous. Think of Parvati and the baby, or Ash, or Hermie, this is no place for any of your mates my Dovtanihe “ Tia moves around in front of me and blacks the images from the other room from my eyes, but not from my mind, with her wings while wrapping her arms tightly around my middle. He long fingers draw soothing and gentle patterns on my back as she just holds me. I know she is trying, and I’m grateful for it, but I need to be with my mates. I know she’s right, they can’t be here, but I still need them, so that means we need to get this quest over with quickly so that I can be back with the loves of my life.
Tia continues to hold me until there is silence from the other room, except for the crying of the young me in the other room. She lets go of me and we both look around the door to the room beyond, Tia gags and covers her mouth at the sight of the mess in the other room, at the horrible figure of my mother lying lifeless on the wall looking to all the world as if she had just been thru a blender before being hit by a Mack truck. “You should go after the man who did this.” Tia tells me once she has gathered herself back together.
“He’s outside with our examiner.” Her eyes widen in shock then narrow in disgust. “He’s been after my family for years, it’s not for food like with your and Draco’s baby, he kills my family for sport, that’s one of the biggest reasons for not wanting to be away from my mates, even for a second. Even knowing that they are safe, knowing he is captured, I still fell anxious, what if there are more, that monster’s family maybe, that will carry out his work if her can’t? I want him dead!”
“Well, we can deal with that later, I for one and not going to leave a crying child in that room alone. You call someone to come and get him while I go and make sure that he… you are alright.” She smiles at me gently and takes a deep breath before walking into the room and over to the childhood me. I don’t even bother calling anyone, I know that the wards summoned my guardian once they registered that my mother was dead. I now understand though, the angel that I saw after the death of my mother, the angel that comforted me and sang me to sleep after this nightmare of a day, that angel turned out to be one of the best friends I have ever had.
“Hello little one.” Tia says gently and I see the boy, me, jump and look up at her. I see his eyes flick to her wings and to her hair and I smile remembering the aw and comfort I felt in this moment.
“Who are you?” the boy asks as Tia crouches down next to him with a smile, I see now that it is sad, but then I thought it was comforting.
“I am your guardian angel.” She scoops the boy into her arms and stands holding him to her wrapping her wings around the two of them for the added security and warmth. “I am here to watch over you, to make sure that you are going to be ok, so that you can grow to be a strong, brave, and kind man.” She starts to hum a song and I realize that the soothing melody is laced with a little magic meant to help the recipient relax.
“Thank you.” He mutters snuggling down into her arms more and drifting to sleep. Tia smiles down at the boy then at me before walking over carefully.
“Is someone coming?” I nod.
“Should be here soon, he needs to be in his bed and we need to be gone before they get here.” Tia nods and I show her where to go. I watch as she tucks my adolescent self into bed and makes sure that he has his animal, a stuffed dog that was lost ages ago for me, and that the night light is light and covered. As soon as she finishes we walk back outside and meet the elf.
“Congratulations.” He tells us with a smile the world fading back to normal. “You have passed the second test.”
