Three weeks later found Hermione still waiting for her editor to send back the finished copy with the cover of her autobiography so she could give her final okay before it went on to the shelves the following day. She was nervous about everyone learning about what had happened in the war to her, she had put her personal thoughts and feelings in to the story. It was filled with things that not even Ron and Harry knew about and it made her hands shake just thinking about what they would say when they read it. She was currently dressed in her favorite warm and comfortable purple sweater and pair of tight black pants with black flats. She pushed her hair over her shoulder so it went down her back and was just about to go out to apperate to the Burrow for dinner to celebrate an announcement the Harry and Ginny had. There was a package waiting near the door for her and she bit her lip and pulled the paper away from the package, grinned and then bounced out the door her new book in her hands as she apperated away.
Molly hugged her at the door and told her how much she missed her. She accepted the glass of wine that was given to her by Lavender and walked over to where Fluer and Bill stood together. It was an adult only dinner but the only conversation she heard was about the kids and how they were doing in school. Molly announced that dinner was done and there was the usual rushing to the table led, of course, by Ron and followed closely behind the twins leaving the women to walk behind them rolling their eyes. They all sat down and started talking all at once which was allowed until Ginny stood up and smiled at the others while they all quieted down. She smiled brightly and clasped her hands in front of her looking at each person in turn.
“Everyone I have an announcement” She said “Well, Harry and I have an announcement…believe it or not…I’m pregnant again!”
“I’M GONNA HAVE ANOTHER GRANDBABY!!” Molly exclaimed while the others clapped and stood to hug her. Hermione did as well truly happy for her when they all sat down she stood too and smiled.
“I have an announcement too” She said and Ron started to choke on his drink “And no I am not pregnant” They all laughed “My book is done” She put it on the table for them all to see. It was a thick book with a picture of Hermione with her forearm up to her forehead with the word ‘Mudblood’ traced out with blood red paint. Her mouth was pressed in to a grim line and her wand was held tightly in front of her in a threatening manner. The title was ‘Most Wanted Mudblood: Hermione Granger’s Story.
“This is amazing” Ginny looked at it “When does it go on the shelves?”
“Tomorrow” She answered “Headmistress McGonagall wants to read it and if it’s clean enough she said she’d like to try to get it on the curriculum for Muggle Studies…you know that’s a required class now, right?”
“That would be wonderful” Molly said “And you look so beautiful in this picture, almost as beautiful as you looked at the Malfoy’s New Years Party”
“Did you hear” Fluer asked in her pretty French accent “That Teddy and Victorie have gotten back together?”
“What?” Hermione asked making sure to look happily surprised though her throat constricted painfully “When?”
“Last week” She said “Victorie wrote to me and said that they talked about it and agreed that they were better off together and that it took a while but that they knew that it was time get back together”
“Isn’t that wonderful?” Molly asked “But didn’t they both date others during their time apart?” She sipped her wine “Won’t that be between them forever?”
“I asked the very same thing” Fluer said “But she said that it did not matter now that they were together, that whoever they had been with in the past didn’t matter”
“Isn’t that sweet?” Hermione offered with a weak smile, she looked over at Ron and his stare was murderous and his jaw was clenching “If you will excuse me I need to use the loo”
Harry and Ginny watched her leave the table, they of course knew about what happened between their friend and godson and were just as confused as she was. When she came back down she was herself, a little redder around the nose and her eyes had fresh eyeliner on but she looked like she was fine. She stayed for another two hours after dinner and every time Fluer tried to bring up the relationship between Teddy and Victorie, Ron, Harry, Ginny or Lavender would steer it in to another direction. Once outside Hermione was getting ready to apperate when Ginny came out the house, she walked over and pulled her friend in to her arms.
“I have no clue what is going on” Ginny told her “Everything was going so well between you two”
“It’s okay” She whispered back to the red head “Like father, like son”
“I could kill him for using you like that” Ginny said “And from the look on Ronald’s face I think he actually will”
“Tell him to keep calm” She said “I don’t need him fighting my battles for me, I am a grown woman and I can handle a little heartbreak…I have before”
“But you shouldn’t have to!” Harry snapped as he walked over to them and hugged her hard “I am so sorry and I swear to merlin that I will beat that boy within an inch of his pathetic life!”
“I don’t need that” Hermione said soothingly “It hurts, I would be lying if I said that it didn’t but…like I said before I am used to it and life goes on” She hugged them both and then walked away apperating to her home.
She went straight her bedroom and laid on her bed. The tears that she had been fighting welled up and no longer could she hold them in. She sobbed until she was asleep but even her dreams were against her, the one she went in to was the replaying of Fluer telling them all about her beautiful half-Veela daughter and Teddy. Only in the dream she turns nastily to Hermione and makes fun of her, asking her if she honestly thought that Teddy would want her, an old saggy woman when he could have the beautiful, young and supple Victorie Weasley. The second dream was Teddy telling all of his college chums (who looked a lot like Blaise Zabini and Draco Malfoy) that he had fucked Hermione Granger over his Christmas holiday and now he was fucking a half-Veela. The third and final dream was that of the night in Malfoy Manor only instead of Draco watching with a sickened look on his face it was Teddy who was laughing. She woke up with a headache and dried tear tracks on her cheeks, she nodded to herself and got up for the day.
She hadn’t been lying to Harry and Ginny, she would continue on with her life, if someone mentioned a relationship with Teddy she would ignore it and if she was unable to ignore it then she would come up with a passable explanation. Today she had to be at Flourish and Blotts to sign autographs on the copies being sold. Before she stepped in to the Floo Network to leave for the day she took a moment to think back to her thoughts only yesterday. When she heard there was an announcement to be made by Ginny and Harry she knew the other girl was pregnant. That wasn’t very unexpected as Harry wanted to have a large family, what was unexpected was the fleeting thought that maybe Teddy would like to start a family with her someday. She snorted now, rolled her eyes and walked through the Floo, forcing a fake smile on her face for the fans she had acquired throughout the years.
