Chapter 13: Safe but CaptiveScabior woke to something running along his arm. He smiled, eyes still closed. He hadn't expected Lexington to be so bold. Not that he wasn't happy she was, it gave him a funny feeling, every time she touched him willingly. He felt Lexington stir beside him. He frowned. She was on the opposite side of whatever was stroking his arm. What the hell was touching him?His eyes flew open, and he looked down beside him, coming face to face with a staring Gawaine, who's tail was slowly twitching, brushing up and down his arm.Scabior groaned, “What the bloody hell do you want? Can't you see we're sleepin'?”Gawaine just continued to stare at him. It was a bit unnerving. It was as if the creature was accusing him of something.Lexington woke when she heard Scabior talking. Who was he talking to? She rolled over, looking around the tent. There was no one there. Suddenly a tiny, fluffy head appeared, peering over Scabior's bare chest.“Gawaine!” Lexington smiled, curling closer to Scabior so she could reach over him and scratch the kneazle between the ears. He immediately started purring.Scabior watched her quietly, not wanting to disrupt her. She had her head resting on his shoulder and her arm draped across him so she could reach Gawaine. It felt good, having her this close, and he was hesitant to say anything in case she realized how close she'd moved. He didn't want her to move. Away from him, anyway, she could move closer if she wanted and he would not complain.Just then her stomach rumbled, causing him to chuckle. In his haste to remain in bed with her, he'd completely forgotten about breakfast and it had to be almost noon now.Lexington leaned up on one arm and looked at him. She felt her face start to flush, remembering just what had transpired between them a short time ago.“Hungry?”Such a simple question, but she found herself blushing further. She knew he meant hungry for food, and she was, but the way his voice was still rough from sleep made her realize she was hungry for something else too. She managed to nod, swallowing.“Okay, be right back,” he said, raising from the bed. He grabbed his shirt as he walked to the door, pulling it over his head.Lexington lay still, staring at the tent door. What was she going to do? What he'd done this morning had changed everything. Why had she let him do that? She still felt relaxed and placated from the fierce sensations that had envelope her. She'd had no idea something could feel that wonderful. She'd heard people say that sex and orgasms felt good, but she'd never imagined the magnitude of those feelings. The fact that she wanted him to make her feel that way again, frustrated her. She shouldn't want that. She shouldn't want him. But she did. She couldn't ignore that any more. He stirred something in her that she couldn't quiet. She knew that every time he touched her now she'd be lost. She'd cave, if he made her feel that blissful, she'd give in to him without a second thought.“Oh, Gawaine,” she whispered, pulling him close, “what am I going to do? I am in so much trouble.”Gawaine just blinked at her, purring contentedly.Lexington let out a sigh, “That's not a very helpful answer.”A loud bang, and raised voices out side the tent made her sit up suddenly. She was about to climb out of bed and locate her clothes when Scabior re-entered the tent. Her eyes widened as she took in the thunderous look on his face. That couldn't be a good sign.He placed the plate of food he had on the table, “Here,” he said, barely looking at her. “I have to deal with somethin'.”“Scabior, what-” she started, but then he was gone. She scrambled from the bed. What was wrong? She hastily dug through the covers, trying to find her knickers.Scabior was livid. He'd given the men a day off so they could enjoy their time. Yes, he'd had his own personal reasons, but it had been for his men too. He growled as he marched back towards the apparation point. Of course, of course, Ben would fuck it up for everyone. He came into view of the men. Most of them had stayed in camp, wanting to have a quiet, peaceful day. Only Ben had gone somewhere. Now, they were all huddled around him, he was kneeling on the forest floor, bruised and bloody. Thom was leaning over him, wand out, surveying Ben's injuries, which were fairly extensive.“Are any of his injuries life threatening?” Scabior said calmly.Thom looked up, “No, but-”“Good. Move.”“Scabior, ya shouldn't-”“I said move, Thom,” Scabior hissed.Thom stepped back, allowing Scabior to approach Ben. He cold have sworn Ben started cowering. Good. Scabior grabbed a fistful of his coat and hauled him to his feet, ignoring his cry of pain.“Explain yourself,” he said.“I don' need ta answer ta you,” Ben said, spitting blood onto the ground. “I was on my time off.”“Wrong answer,” Scabior replied, his voice dead calm. “We're fightin' a war, Ben. You show up lookin' like this after time off, it bloody well becomes my business. Who did this to you? Do we need to move camp?”Ben actually scoffed, “Nah, your precious camp is safe and that precious prize o' yours too.”Scabior's eyes narrowed, “What?” He couldn't mean Lexington?“I 'eard ya talkin' the other day. She's a friend o' Potter's. Why ain't you 'anded 'er over yet? You plannin' on keepin' it all ta yerself?” Ben sputtered angrily. So he was talking about Lexington. Scabior started to see red, breathing through clenched teeth, his grip tightened on Ben's coat. If he'd done anything to muck up Scabior's plans, anything that might 'cause him to lose Lexington, he would be sorry.“Ben, I am going to ask you this once. And only once. And if I don' think your answer is the truth, I am not going to be very happy. Where were you?”Ben had the common sense to look down when he answered Scabior. “Malfoy manor” he mumbled.Scabior's stomach hit the ground. “What?” he said, exhaling raggedly. If the Dark Lord knew he had her. Had her but wasn't handing her over. They would all be as good as dead. Without a second thought, Scabior slammed his fist into Ben's face.Ben staggered back, clutching his nose, blood flowing freely from it now.“Do you have any idea what you've done?” Scabior growled.“Didn' do nothin'” Ben said thickly, anger still clear on his features. “Couldn' do nothin'.”Scabior paused. Couldn't? “For Merlin's sake, man, just spit it out! The sooner we get the whole story, the sooner I can start to clean up the mess you've made.”Ben glared at him, “There's no mess ta clean up. Yer stupid pet is safe. Why the fuck do ya think I came back lookin' like this?”Scabior clenched his jaw, but forced himself to let Ben continue.“I was gonna 'and 'er over. Tell them you was harbouring one o' Potter's friends an' keep all the reward fer myself. But I couldn' tell them a damn thing! Stood there babblin' on about stupid stuff. In front o' the Dark Lord! I goes in with this huge, world changin' secret, an' I couldn' stop talkin' about the fucking flowers! Got the shit beat out o' me an' cursed over an' over fer wastin' his precious time. So no! There is no one comin' after you. Because no one bloody knows!”Scabior drew his wand and slowly pointed it at Ben. He watched in satisfaction as Ben's face paled. He let go of his coat and pushed him roughly away. If he remained close to him, Scabior knew he would end up physically killing the man. He'd tried to tell Voldemort about Lexington? The thought of the Dark Lord knowing about her made Scabior's blood run cold, though he didn't know why. He'd been planning on handing her over once he was done with her.He took slow, deep breaths, staring levelly at Ben, “An' just what did you think my reaction was gonna be when you got back here?” he asked calmly.Ben swallowed, “I- I didn't think- What does it matter. She's just a little bit of a girl.”Anger surged inside Scabior, “She may be that, but did you give any thought to what your news would do to this crew?”Ben's eyes widened, glancing around at the men who had silently been watching their exchange.“No, I can see you didn't. Well, let me tell you what woulda happened. If you had managed to spill your little secret, they would all be dead,” he said, hissing the last part.Scabior sensed the men fidgeting around him, clearly that news didn't sit well with them.“When I decide to hand her over, you are all guaranteed a share an' your safety. I am not 'harbouring' her, as you put it, Ben, I am holdin' her for questioning. There is a huge difference, one you seem incapable of grasping.”Scabior noted that Ben looked mortified. He clearly hadn't been thinking about the other men, just his own grudge against Lexington. Scabior grit his teeth, he needed to put some distance between himself and Ben. Just the thought of what he'd almost done, to him, to his men, to Lexington, made him want to murder the man.Slowly Scabior turned, “Back to camp men.”“Wha' abou' Ben?” Xander asked.Scabior smirked, he'd been waiting for someone to ask that, knowing they would want him there about as much as he did. “What about him? He can rot out here for all I care.”“Boss?” said Ben, in a small voice.Whirling Scabior glowered at him, “You think after what you just did I would let you back into camp?”Ben's mouth gaped.“I don' wish to 'ave you anywhere near my camp an' I suspect the others don' either. You almost sold them to the Dark Lord, you would've been responsible for all our deaths. I can't 'ave a traitor on my crew. You are on your own. You 'ave one hour to get your stuff an' get out of my sight,” he said, as he turned and marched back to camp.Scabior flung open the flap of his tent, straightened up and came face to face with a pair of worried blue eyes. He closed his own and sighed. He'd almost forgotten Lexington was in his tent. He was used to having it as a retreat when his men pissed him off.Confusion settled in Lexington's chest. It had looked like he didn't want her to be there, just before he'd closed his eyes. She furrowed her brow, worried. What could have happened to make him not want her here? He hadn't shown any previous displeasure at holding her captive.“Scabior?” she said softly. He opened his eyes. “What's going on?”Scabior wondered how much to tell her. He had to tell her something. He thought quickly through the whole exchange. Ben had said he couldn't tell the Dark Lord about her. Did that mean he wouldn't be able to hand her over either? Was there some mysterious force preventing anyone from finding out about her? His mind raced back to the night they'd found her and the barrier that had surrounded her. Clearly someone, or something, wanted her kept safe. But what did that mean? It would certainly change his whole plan, if he couldn't claim the reward he knew she was worth. He couldn't just let her go either. She'd run off as soon as he did and find her friends, wanting to help them. If he did that it would be as good as aiding Potter's side of the war.“Scabior?” Lexington said, the fear in her voice more pronounced this time.He met her eyes. He couldn't hand her over. He couldn't let her go. There was only one option. One he'd already entertained. He'd have to keep her. That realization sent a jolt straight to his stomach. He'd wanted to keep her before he found out who she was, now he had a viable reason for doing just that. He could keep her until this bloody war was over. Maybe even after, if the Dark Lord won. The thought of keeping her forever made his anger immediately turn to a dark, burning desire. She could belong to him, only to him, forever.Lexington squeaked in alarm as she was suddenly pulled to him. His hands held her face and he bent to give her a bruising kiss. It overwhelmed her. She could taste the desire coming from his lips, it burned her, scalding her senses. Her fingers gripped his shirt, needing something to hold, to keep herself from collapsing. She was tumbling over the edge, she couldn't stop her mind from falling. Giving in to something he was demanding from her with this kiss.Just as she thought she would pass out from her mental free fall, he changed the tone of his kiss. His lips softened against hers, his hands brushed down her sides to settle on her waist. Oh Merlin, she didn't know which was worse, or better. His kisses had rendered her mind entirely numb.Abruptly, he ended the kiss, “So, turns out you're still protected by somethin'”That statement completely confused her, “What?” She fought her way back through her clouded mind. What was he talking about? He sighed, “Ben tried to tell the Dark Lord about you, but-”“WHAT?” Lexington pulled away from Scabior, terror permeating her body.He didn't let her go far, his hand caught her arm, stopping her retreat. “Relax, luv. I said he tried.”“So, he- he didn't-” a thought struck her. “Y-you stopped him?”Scabior scowled, “If I'd known that was his plan, yeah I woulda stopped him. Probably would've bloody murdered him for puttin' the whole crew at risk. But it wasn't me that stopped him.”Lexington's brain worked furiously. His crew, of course he'd be more worried about his crew than her. She wasn't stupid, she knew he only wanted her for one thing. He was probably still planning on giving her up once he got what he wanted. His attention this morning had given her a false sense of security, like he actually cared what she felt and thought. How could she have been so stupid. She'd let her feelings get in the way of what she should be thinking. She tried to tug her arm from his grip, but he wouldn't relinquish his hold on her.“If it wasn't you, then who did?”Scabior shrugged, “I think for whatever reason you had that barrier 'round you the first night, it's still tryin' to protect you. It only let me get to you when it knew I wanted to heal you. I think it's the reason we couldn't ask anyone about you when we didn't know who you were. Might be the same thing now. For some reason, you're safe from being discovered.”“So, Ben went to the Dark Lord and tried to tell them I was here, but couldn't?”Scabior nodded.“What happened to him?”He grit his teeth, he didn't really want to talk about Ben right now, “Before or after he showed up here?”“After? You did something to him after he showed up?” shock registered on her face, then she shook it away. “Before, I want to know what happened before... and after.”“Demandin', aren't you?”“Scabior-”“Alright, alright! He tried to tell an' kept talkin' about flowers apparently, so he got himself beat up an' cursed for wastin' their time.”“And after?”“I punched him an' kicked him off my crew.”She didn't know what she'd been expecting, but it hadn't been that. “You kicked him off your crew?”“Yes, Lexi, I did. If he's gonna do something that stupid and selfish, I don' want him around.”Her eyes flashed dangerously. “Don't call me that,” she said simply, before continuing, “but good. He got what he deserved.”Scabior chuckled, “Glad you agree, sweetheart.“You don't think he'll try again, though? Now that he's not part of the crew?”He shook his head, “Nah, he'll be lickin' his wounds for sometime yet. He'd be crazy to go back and risk gettin' a worse punishment. Now, on to more pressing matters. What are we gonna do with you?”Lexington swallowed, “What?”“Well, we can't tell anyone about you, I'm assuming that means we'll be prevented from handin' you over too,” he said, before letting his voice grow husky, “So, what are we gonna do with you?”The full impact of what he'd been telling her hit her. She was safe. For some reason, no one could find out about her. He couldn't hand her over. Hope surged within her, maybe he'd let her go. She wouldn't get him the reward he thought she would, she wasn't worth holding onto. She looked up at him with bright eyes.“You can let me go. I'm not worth anything to you now, you can't collect any reward.”Scabior laughed, really laughed, “Oh, Lexi. I can't hand you over, true, but I can't let you go either.”She frowned, “Why not? All you wanted was the reward.”He smirked at her, “That's not all I wanted.”Lexington bit her lip. Her hope had made her forget why he'd kept her in the first place. He took a step closer and she caught her breath. The look in his eyes was positively predatory.“I wanted to keep you before we figured out who you were, remember? Now I have no choice. If I let you go, you'll go runnin' to your friends. I'd be helpin' the other side by lettin' you go, luv. So, I can't do that.”She looked up at him, breathing rapidly, “But you can't keep me forever.”He tucked her hair behind her ear, letting his fingers trail slowly down her neck. She shuddered. He grinned, “Why not?”“Be- because you can't,” she said closing her eyes.“I'm gonna need a better reason than that, luv,” he whispered, his lips now against her ear.Lexington tried to think. His touch and his words were confusing her senses, but she needed to focus. She was safe. Safe from Voldemort at least. Not so safe from the man before her and the feelings he stirred in her. He wouldn't let her go, she knew that. She would still try and escape if given the chance. In the meantime, was it really so bad to stay here? She twitched as his fingers brushed down her side, pulling her hip towards him. Was it really so wrong that she should want to stay for a little while?Scabior pressed a kiss to the base of her neck and she groaned, tilting her head to give him better access. He started sucking gently on her flesh and she swallowed. What had she been trying to figure out? If staying was bad? Right now it didn't feel bad. He bit down lightly and slipped one hand under her shirt to stroke that one magical spot on her side. A moan escaped her throat and she pressed her body closer to his. She'd figure it out later. While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
