Draco Malfoy entered his son’s hospital room hastily, walking directly into another wizard with messy black hair.
“Potter? What are you doing here?” He asked to other man. Draco’s voice was completely void of its usual arrogant tone.
Harry turned to look at him. Malfoy’s face looked ragged, all traces of composed sophistication was gone. His eyes were bloodshot and puffy, blonde hair strewn wildly. He looked nothing less than deranged. Harry found himself incapable of judging the man poorly. If one of his son’s had suffered the same fate as Scorpius, he would look no different.
Draco looked past the other man, his eyes falling on his wife, Astoria, who hugging a boy who looked very much like Harry Potter. “What is going on?” He asked with a low hiss.
Astoria lifted her head to look at her husband and Harry Potter. She released Albus from the hug. He immediately returned to leaning over Scorpius, stroking his face lovingly. Astoria walked over to Draco, reaching her hand out to him as she went.
If the meeting would not have followed such a horrific event, it would have been extraordinarily awkward. However, both Malfoy’s were sedated state following the panic of the previous moments. Harry was feeling overwhelmed as well. Processing all that had happened in the past few hours was a difficult task indeed. They all seemed to just be waiting to fight through the next few minutes.
“He really does look just like you.” Astoria said quietly as she wiped tears from her face.
“I know.” Harry replied simply, watching Albus as he leaned over the other boy speaking quietly into his ear.
“Did you know?” Draco asked gesturing to the two boys.
“I had no idea.” Harry answered. “Until this.” He took the letter from his pocket and handed it to Astoria.
“I don’t know what we should do.” Draco said after he finished reading the letter.
“We don’t have to do anything.” Astoria said quickly, turning to face the men. “They are obviously in love.”
“In love?” Draco and Harry questioned in unison.
“There is no way that you both are that daft!” She exclaimed somewhat angrily. “They will be of age very soon. We have no right to make any decisions for them. Albus can stay here with Scorpius if he decides to do so.”
“I do!” Albus said, forcing himself to walk from the other boy’s side. “Dad I’m sorry, but I can’t leave him.”
Harry looked down at his son. Albus had never look so distressed before. The boy was physically shaking. His face was twisted with emotional anguish. “You don’t have to.” Harry said comfortingly. He pulled to boy to himself and held him tightly.
“Thank you.” Albus whispered quietly.
Harry let his son go and the boy walked back over to Scorpius. “Malfoy, can we talk outside?” Harry asked Draco. The elder Malfoy nodded and they walked into the hall together.
Albus watched as his father and Draco Malfoy left the room to talk in private. If he had not been so focused on Scorpius he would have worried about the conversation. Albus was thoroughly exhausted.
“Have a seat dear.” Astoria said to him as she pulled a chair over to beside the bed.
He thanked her and sat down. Albus leaned in and placed his head on Scorpius’s arm. Within a matter of minutes he was fast asleep.
“Albus?” A small voice said. Albus woke slowly. His neck was in an awkward position. Why had he fallen asleep in a chair? He sat up, rubbing his eyes groggily. “Alby?” There was that voice again. He opened his eyes.
“Scor!” Albus thought that he had dreamed all the events of the previous night. To his horror, he discovered that he was very wrong. Last night he had been so afraid of losing Scorpius, that he had spent little time really looking at the state of his boyfriend. Scorpius’s face was bruised and a large slash was on his forehead, covered in a shimmering salve. His delicate neck was covered with large angry marks in the shape of thick fingers. A large pouch of potion was hung on rack beside the bed, a thick tube was running from it to some unknown destination under Scorpius’s covers.
“Alby, I was, Vincent he…” Scorpius said as he began to weep.
“I know Scor.” Albus said, placing the other boy’s hand in his own. He leaned down and kissed Scorpius’s cheek.
“Alby. He hurt me…I hurt so much.” His body began to wither with each sob.
“Shh. Scor, it’s okay. I’m here.” Albus whispered into his ear. Anger welled up inside of him. Vincent was going to pay for what he had done to Scorpius. Albus’s heart broke a little more each time he looked at his lover. He felt angry at himself. Angry for not dealing with Vincent when he had the chance.
“Scorpius!” Astoria woke up with a start. She had spent the night awkwardly slumped between two chairs. “Draco! Get up! He’s awake!”
Draco lifted his head from the arm of one of Astoria’s chairs. “Scorpius.” He echoed with a breath of relief.
“He needs something for pain.” Albus told them quickly.
“I’ll tell Barbus.” Draco said standing swiftly.
“No.” Astoria said, pulling herself up with effort. “I’ll just get it myself.” She was gone in seconds, leaving Draco alone with Albus and Scorpius.
Draco walked to the side of the bed opposite Albus. “Father. I’m sorry I did not tell you-“
“It’s okay Scorpius. I’m not mad. I was so afraid that I had lost you.” Draco said as tears began to gather in the corners of his eyes. He watched as his son looked from him, to Albus, and back again nervously. “Don’t worry,” he said to his son, as though he read his mind, “he’s going to stay. Been here all night anyway.” Draco looked up at the other boy thoughtfully. “It’s good to meet you Albus.” He said sincerely, extending his hand over Scorpius’s bed.
Albus said nothing, but took the hand with a firm handshake. He was beyond grateful to have Draco’s acceptance. Scorpius smiled widely, forgetting the horrible pain, if even just for a moment.
