Hermione looked at her in surprise while Healer Cho Chang walked in with her eye brows raised in question. She locked the door and put up a silencing charm. She then asked Hermione in a calm voice, "Is everything all right Hermione? I wasn't aware we were supposed to meet today."
Hermione blushed and replied, "No Cho, I am here with Mr. Malfoy."
Cho remained silent and greeted Draco instead, "Hello Draco, I wasn't expecting you either. Hope everything is okay?"
Draco smiled and answered, "Yes Cho, Astoria and I are all right. I actually came with Hermione so that you could check her. Remember two months ago I told you about a Squib doctor that I had met and that Astoria had agreed to go for muggle treatment, well he agreed to do the IVF procedure for us and  then I told you that I found a muggleborn witch who was willing to have the baby for us..."
He paused for a moment and then Cho realized, "Shit! you are that muggle born witch Hermione!" Hermione nodded while Draco grinned at Cho.
He continued, "We are supposed to find out if the procedure was successful but I cannot wait anymore. It has been thirteen days now, can you help us find out if she is pregnant?" He looked at Cho pleadingly and Cho rolled her eyes as if he was a small child asking for candy. She nodded andthen asked Hermione to lay down on the table. She covered her up till her hips with a white sheet and asked her if she felt comfortable having Draco there. Hermione nodded as the procedure did not require removing of clothes. She had given birth to two of her own kids so she knew what the procedure was. Draco sat near the table on a steel stool clasping his hand eagerly.
Before begininng Cho looked at Draco and said, "Draco I have known you for fifteen years now and you are my friend as is Astoria. So I feel that I need to inform you that IVF procedures do not work on magical pregnancies. It is a very rare thing to happen. 99.9% of the times the procedure fails mainly because wizards and witches have the element of magic in them which makes it very hard to meld together to form a new being outside the womb. Inside the womb itself the magic protects the new life and only then an embryo is formed successfully. It is only when the couple have compatiable magical cores that pregnancy comes easily. If he was able to do this in a dish then I am truly impressed. For your sake I hope this works but please prepare yourself to hear not so good news as well okay?" Hermione looked at Draco with sympathy in her eyes as Draco sat up in a stiff position nodding at what Cho was saying.
Cho then pulled up Hermione's jumper and shirt up above her navel exposed the lower abdominal area. Hermione looked away very much aware that Draco was seeing her like that. Draco in the other hand waited with baited breath to know the result. Cho took her wand and ran a couple of diagonistic spells before saying the spell for pregnancy. If the light was blue then Hermione was pregnant. If it was white then she wasn't. It took about five seconds for the orange light to vanish within her abdomen and come out as a blue light. Hermione laughed in delight while Cho smiled. The two women looked at Malfoy who remained still in his seat not believeing what he had seen. The woman in front of him was pregnant with his child! The child he had been waiting for for so long was now real! Hermione placed her hand in his hand and squeezed it. Draco jumped at the feeling. He then smiled a huge smile at both woman before pumping his fisted hand in the air saying 'yes' multiple times.
Hermione laughed at his antics but then sobered as she remembered what had happened that day. She looked at Cho and asked her, "Cho can you do a paternity test as well?"
Cho looked at her perplexed, "Why Hermione? If I am correct then the doctor must have advised you to not have sex during this period. Did you have...." She left the question hanging while Draco looked at her anxious to find out.
Hermione turned red in face as she answered Cho,"Ron sort of .....forced me to...you know and I tried to stop him but....just know that I never wanted to put this baby in danger. He was in fact very drunk at that time and now I just want to be sure...thats all."
Cho looked at her with wide eyes. Hermione was hiding something from her but since Draco was there she did not push the subject and nodded. She spoke the spell as she expertly waved the wand over Hermione's womb. A bright light came from it and moved around them and finally settled in Draco's hands. Draco heaved a sigh of relief and smiled widely as Hermione too relaxed. Cho decided to prescribe her a few potions and left them alone while she went to get the parchment.
As soon as they were alone Draco caught Hermione's hand and kissed it, "Thank you...thank you....thank you so much Hermione. I am so indebted to you for doing this for us. You don't know the pain Astoria and I went through all these years. Now we finally have our dream coming true. Our own child. Thank you so much Hermione!" Hermione smiled at him a little bit smugly.
Puzzled Draco asked "what?"
Hermione grinned and replied, "You called me Hermione." Draco laughed and surprised Hermione as she pulled down her shirt and jumper.
Cho returned back into the room and gave Hermione the parchment and then soberly told them, "Draco there is one more thing that you need to know. IVF pregnancies usually result in the baby being a squib because it is not formed in a environment favorable towards magic. No one knows why but that is what happens. You will be extremely lucky if the child is wizard or a witch. Now it takes more than four weeks to confirm if the baby has magic or not. So Hermione you would have to come back again after three weeks to be on the safe side. Once the baby's heart beats can be detected then I can easily try using the spell to find out the result. Draco, as your friend I need to tell you that if the baby is a squib then you will have to decide its fate because both yours and Astoria's parents would not want one in their family tree. So you both need to be prepared to make that decision as well."
Draco sat down on the stool with his shoulders slumped. It was as if he was given a candy and then given a bitterfruit to bite. He palmed his face and sighed. Hermione could not stay silent anymore and asked, "what are you thinking?"
Draco looked at her with a small smile and replied, "I don't know how to raise a non magical person neither does Astoria. I spent my youth making fun of those who did not have magic and now I know how bad their parents must have felt after knowing the truth. How terrible it must have been for them to see their children face hurt and mockery for no fault of theirs.  I was a terrible human being. Poor Astoria, what will I say to her? Will she be able to handle the truth that our child might not be a magical being? And not to mention my father! If he comes to know about this then I am sure he would kill me or my child rather than have us in the family tree! What do I do?"
Hermione looked at him squarely and said, "This child is yours Draco. If he or she cannot depend on you for keeping it safe then it is better for the baby to not exist. You have three more weeks to decide if you want to be the father like your father or be someone who loves their child no matter what he or she is. Don't worry, the answer will come to you soon. Believe me...I should know!" Draco nodded and then stood up as Hermione got up to stand from the bed. They thanked Cho for her services and Hermione left for her home.
She arrived home and was surprised to see Ron sober sitting on their sofa reading a quidditch magazine. He looked at her and instead of greeting her went back to reading. Hermione rolled her eyes at his childish antics. She walked towards him but kept some distance, "I just wanted you to know that today Draco and I went to a healer to see if I was pregnant. Turns out I am."
Ron looked expectantly at her and asked, "Who is the father?"
Hermione shrugged and replied, "Malfoy, of course, since it is Astoria and Malfoy's child."
Ron snorted and remarked, "Great, so you will be rich soon." Hermione could not take anymore of his sarcasm and turned to walk up the stairs to the guest bedroom.
Ron called her back, "Wait! Hermione, how long do you intend to sleep in the guest room? Come on Hermione I have been living like a bachelor for the past two weeks and I do not like it! What happened had happened! Forget it."
Hermione exploded at those words, " Forget it! Forget it! Ron you raped me, you hurt me and you did not even have the decency of saying sorry! How the hell am I supposed to forget it?"
Ron rolled his eyes, "Oh not that again, come on Hermione its not like we did not do that before. It must have been like everytime we make love. Its the same you and me. Just that I did not know what I was doing. We have been doing it for twenty years, how is that different?"
Hermione bristled with anger, "Maybe I need to update you because we have not made love in ten years now. All you do is fuck me when you are drunk and then fall asleep. I never stopped you but this time I did Ron and the bloody difference is that I bloody said NO!" Her voice reached a feverish pitch by the time she was finished talking. They both were glaring at each other too angry to speak.  Hermione calmed down a bit and spoke in a calm voice, "Ron, I am done living like this with you. I will not be taken for granted. If you want me to be your wife then you bloody well start behaving like a husband. If you do and if I can deal with it then we can continue what you want or else maybe we would need some time away from each other." Saying this Hermione went to her room leaving behind a flabergasted Ron with his mouth wide open in shock!
