That brought a round of chuckles from the three Durins as the brothers glared at each other, then Logan drew himself free of Kili saying, "Well, at least you had the presence of mind to call Rohan before you did so."
Getting to his feet, Logan moved to Roark's desk where he searched for, and found a pen and a slip of paper, wrote something on it, and then went back to them. "Listen, I still have a few things to do before I head home for the night," he said, handing the paper over. "I moved to a new apartment last sectar {month], so when you two get done here, stop by. We'll have a drink, something to eat. You can then tell us what the hell is going on, and how THAT," he pointed to the uniforms the two were wearing, "happened." He turned and walked out of the office with a wave.
"He's not handling Kale's death well," Fili said quietly as he rose to his own feet, stretching. "Not well AT all."
"We aren't really surprised by that," he told him as he and Harry got to their own feet. "How about you? Ki?"
Kili paused in the middle of stretching, a sigh escaping him as he lowered his arms from over his head. "Better than Logan, I think, but still..." a pause, then, "not as well as could be hoped. I miss him like crazy, Rory," he said softly, feeling an arm slip around him to hug him.
"Of course you do," Harry told him. "He was your mentor. training you to do this job as it is supposed to be done, not how others want it done. His being your cousin makes it twice as hurtful. I don't even want to think about what losing Rory would do to me, and I have no wish to find out."
"Nor do any of us," Fili said with a sigh of his own. "We'll be alright soon enough. It's just going to take time."
Roark nodded. "Speaking of time. Did you two find that witness you were looking for?"
"Yes," came the grim answer.
"Dead, I assume?"
They nodded, and the brothers shook their heads. "That isn't really much of a surprise, is it?" Harry asked.
"No. We had just hoped we could get to him first. The bastard moves quickly when he has to. By the looks of the shape the body was in when we DID find him, Bellatrix Lestrange got to him. Loves to torture them before she kills them, that one does. She's extremely cruel, thorough."
"She's a crazy one, that's for sure," Kili said with a shake of his head. "Rodolphus Lestrange isn't crazy, nor is he anywhere near as cruel when he kills, but he married the bitch. Makes you wonder why he would. Especially as we have been hearing that they detest each other with the same kind of passion they should love each other. There are also rumors of some rather violent, public fights between the two."
"It's said she's very beautiful."
"She may be, but she is rotten to the core. Well, we still have a couple of things to do ourselves. We'll see you at Logan's later."
He nodded, watching them leave the office, staring at the door long after it had closed behind the brothers, lost deeply in his own thoughts. It had not taken him long to see that Logan had, despite Fili and Kili's emotional, mental, and physical support, completely bound his emotions up, just as his father, uncle, and brothers had feared he would.
"Rory?" Harry asked him worriedly, seeing the blank look in his brother's eyes and not liking it one bit. Reaching out, he lay a hand on his forearm, rousing him out of his thoughts. "Are you alright?"
"I'm fine, Harry," he said, turning and moving to his desk without another word to key a number he knew well into his com pad.
Barely micron's {seconds} later..."Roark?" came the immediate, and very sleepy question as the screen lit up.
"Oh, KOBOL, Sebastien, I am so sorry. I forgot all about the time difference between here and--"
Sebastien Durin sat up quickly, the light blanket that had been covering him falling from his naked, lightly furred chest, earning him a whistle of appreciation. A smile. "Why thank you, Harry," he said. "Never mind the time distance, Rory. We're doctors. Therefore we're used to being woken at all centons {hours} of the night. What's wrong, kiddo?"
"Logan."
A sudden look of very intense worry filled sapphire blue eyes. "It's as bad as we feared, then?"
"Worse, if you ask me. He's completely bound up within himself. Hell, he can't even say Kale's name without tearing up." He sat down, looking at him. "But then he shuts down before they can fall. Fi and Ki seem to be doing better, but they're nearly as bound up as Logan is."
"We were expecting that, Rory," came a second, even deeper voice as a handsome face, blond hair sleep-mussed and aquamarine eyes looking just as sleepy, appeared over his husband's shoulder. "Harry, please do stop ogling my husband," came his amused voice.
"Can't help it, Robin. He's fucking gorgeous, but then," Harry appeared on the screen, "so are you," he went on, earning him a deep chuckle from the both of them.
"Harry, stop flirting," Roark ordered his brother, even though his own eyes were sparking with mischievous amusement. "I know all these Durin boys are incredibly handsome, as are some of their husbands, but really, brother, it's bad form to flirt with the married ones. If you really must flirt with them, go after the unmarried ones."
Laughter sounded from him. "I have. Slept with some of them too."
"HADRIAN!!" he exclaimed amid Sebastien and Robin's barks of laughter. "YOU," he pointed to his grinning brother, "are incorrigible." He turned back to the screen. "You two are not helping," he scolded. "And I know we were, Robin. I just didn't expect it to be this bad, and...I don't know. I think he may be investigating something on his own, and I'm not sure how to pull him back without sending him into a tailspin of even more destructive behavior. At least Fili and Kili are working together."
"Investigating WHAT alone? And why aren't Fili and Kili working with him?"
"If I had a guess, I'd say he's investigating Tom Riddle's Terminator's. Or more specifically, Rodolphus, Rabastan, and Bellatrix Lestrange. As for Fili and Kili, I don't think they know what Logan is up to. They've been tracking down a witness to a murder. They found him dead this afternoon. Thanks, Harry," he said to his brother as he brought him a fresh mug of tea, then held out his hand, palm open for him to see three small light purple pills. "Harry--"
"Take them. Please? Your head is about to explode it's hurting you so bad, though I know you think you're hiding it well."
Sebastien and Robin both swore sharply. "Boys, is this line secure?" Sebastien demanded, his tone serious. "Roark, take those painkillers. If your head truly is hurting that badly, you won't be able to think as clearly as you need to."
"The line is, but our office is not," he answered, seeing the glares from both doctors, as well as from his brother. He sighed, took the three tablets, and downed them with a swig of tea. "There. Happy now?"
"Immensely, thank you." The three of them answered as one.
"What I really need to know is this. How far do you think I'll have to push before he cracks and opens up? We can't have him investigating the Lestrange's on his own. They remind me far too much of poisonous snakes waiting to strike an unwary passerby with deadly accuracy, often killing them before they even realize they've been bitten."
"Wonderful way of describing the Lestrange's, and no, you can't. Neither can we," came Sebastien's answer, a frown now curving his brow. "You may not need to push him far at all. I think it will really depend on just how close he is to the edge. Did he move and change his comm number?"
"Yes," he answered, reaching for the slip of paper, and instead of telling them, turned it around for them to read, watching as Robin reached passed his husband for a pad of paper and a pen they always kept on the nightstand beside their bed, writing quickly. "Which, by the way, he has not changed in the base computer, nor apparently, has he told anyone but Fi and Ki where he has gone."
"Again, no surprise there," Robin said as he looked up. "Have Fili and Kili moved?"
Roark looked over at Harry, who shook his head. "Not that we're aware of."
"That's surprising. They know that something is wrong, if not specifically what, or where. They also have no real idea who they can and can't trust. Rory, Harry, suggest to the two that they move as well, and I think the two of you and Severus ought to move as well. Until you know who you can trust, I wouldn't trust the apartments you were put in. Was your baggage searched?"
"It was," Harry said. "I'll go find Severus. Tell him we need to start looking for new places for the three of us to live."
"Great, thanks, Harry. So, any idea why he hasn't called any of you? The last time I spoke to Chris just before we left Caprica, he said that Logan hadn't called anyone in the family."
"That's because Dad and Chris would know immediately just how bad he is, how bad all THREE of them are. If Logan had called, and they had seen just how badly he's bound himself, they'd have told the rest of us, and orders or not, we'd all be abandoning our assignments and to hell with the consequences. He's ALSO know that Dad wouldn't sit by quietly when one of his children was in trouble."
"Missions are important, but family is a priority."
"Exactly so," Robin said. "Do you think you can get him to talk to you?"
"I'll be seeing him tonight, so you can bet I'm going to try. I don't like seeing him like this."
"Nor would we. Trust your instincts, Roark." Sebastien said. "At the Academy, you seemed to always know when you could push and when you shouldn't, how hard and how far. You were always very good at reading people, too."
"Sure. I could read people so well I never saw what Mason was doing until it was nearly too late. Not just for me, but Harry and our team."
