Here's tasty chapter 16... I hope you enjoy it, I know I did :-p
Chapter 16: Lessons
Ron watched her closely,
the way the sun shone on her hair making it a vibrant red, it looked
so soft and silky, he longed to touch it. He wanted to hold her, kiss
her full lips and call her his. In his imagination she had a special
smile just for him, she wanted him too but knew that there were rules
that couldn't be broken, she was his teacher. They had had the
conversation, the one where she told him that it was just a crush and
that when he was a little older he would see it as such, that it
would get easier. But he knew she didn't mean it, she had told him
what she must, knowing that once he finished at Hogwarts they would
be together.
With a sigh he returned
to his breakfast. Hermione wasn't there. It was the second meal in a
row that she'd missed, having vanished yet again the previous
afternoon and not reappeared since. Harry was also not there,
finishing homework in the library before lessons started was his
latest thing. Ron sighed again, feeling rather lonely. This year had
gone so quickly and the three of them seemed to have barely seen each
other. It seemed an age since the new year's party at the Burrow when
they had all been together, laughing and having fun. Now spring was
on the return, the grass was long and wet with dew, the trees had
their leaves again and there was the smell of spring rain in the air.
March had arrived and to Ron it seemed that he just hadn't seen his
friends in the last two months, this sudden realisation shocked him.
How had he not noticed this before? Had he been so distracted by
Professor Sullivan? He frowned at his porridge and watched a dollop
fall from his hovering spoon. The Great Hall was growing quiet as
people drifted away to get themselves to the first class of the day.
Ron looked around, Professor Sullivan was leaving with Professor
Sprout, her smile as broad and warm as ever. He decided that today he
would try harder to keep his mind off her, after all, he had been far
too distracted all year.

Harry shoved his books
into his bag and moved quickly from the table as the bell rang. Other
students, mostly seventh years, also bustled from the library and
dispersed along the corridors for their lessons. Harry put his head
down and set off at a jog, he would be late to Defence Against the
Dark Arts, all the way down in the dungeon if he didn't hurry. He
skidded to a halt at the door to the classroom, arriving just as the
last student filed into the room and took his seat next to Hermione
at the front of the class, giving her a relieved sigh as he dropped
his bag onto the desk.
'Just in time, Harry.
Again. Are you still finishing homework in the library every
morning?' She whispered, gathering her textbook and a few scrolls on
her desk. He nodded, getting out his own things and sliding his bag
off the edge of the desk onto the floor, where it landed with a thud.
'Hardly see each other
these days do we? What with you being off with your study buddy every
night.' He raised an eyebrow at her.
'No. Certainly seems that
way.' She glanced round at Ron behind them, sat with Dean and talking
quite loudly.
'You've certainly been
spending a lot of time with this guy. Who is it anyway?' Harry
teased. Hermione's head snapped back to him.
'What?' Confusion wracked
her face and Harry was taken aback by the startled look in her eyes.
He pulled back a bit, about to say something soothing to assure her
that he was teasing. But Professor Sullivan called the class to order
and he had to hold his tongue.
All through the lesson
Harry cast sideways glances at Hermione and noticed her fierce
concentration and constant frown. He had hit a raw nerve, it was like
it was news to her that she'd been spending all this time with
someone from Arithmancy. Harry tried to remember if she had told him
that she was no longer studying with this mystery guy. She hadn't,
she had been running off regularly for so long now and he had
continued to assume that it was for the same reason. Perhaps she was
studying alone and the wretched distance that had grown between the
three of them this year had meant that she hadn't realised that she
just hadn't told Harry something she may consider insignificant.
On the other hand,
perhaps Harry's throw away comment had been close to the bone, that
she really was involved with someone secretly, or maybe suffering
from a debilitating crush, as Ron had been. He gave her a longer
look, wondering about his friend and mourning the gaping chasm that
had formed between them.

Another week passed
during which the once firm friends barely saw one another. Saturday
arrived and it was the Gryffindor vs. Hufflepuff quidditch match. Ron
and Harry ate breakfast together with the rest of the team and the
house encouraging them on. Hermione ran in late and grabbed a slice
of toast, she ate hurriedly and didn't sit down. She chatted to some
other people stood around the team and made sure to nudge her way
into the cluster to give Ron and Harry a quick hug each, wishing them
luck. Ron watched with a dry smile as she smiled and laughed with a
few choice people.
'Seamus!' Her voice
carried over the noisy chatter and her laughter filled the air. Ron
smiled to see her happy and felt something jerk inside himself
because he wasn't happy. He was jealous that she could be laughing
and smiling and enjoying this day when he was a bundle of nerves and
was raw inside from yearning to be laughing and smiling with her and
Harry again. How could she be so happy without him? He glanced at
Harry, Ginny was sat in his lap and someone was thumping him on his
back, but Harry wasn't smiling. Harry was looking over at Hermione
and wearing a small sad expression. Ron took some small comfort in
that. Later he would speak to Harry, it was high time some bridges
were mended.

Harry and Ron parted ways
with most of the crowd at the stadium, heading for the changing room
with the team. Harry wanted to talk to Ron the way they always used
to talk. Much as Hermione would roll her eyes in consternation about
the very male way he and Ron communicated, at least they had their
own way of talking. But now was not the time to open up that
dialogue, they had a match to win. He glanced over his shoulder to
see his fellow Gryffindors moving to the stands, making all manner of
excited noise. Hermione wasn't with them. He hadn't seen her since
they left the Great Hall and part of him squirmed at that thought.
She wouldn't miss a match though, would she? Not with so many of her
friends on the team these days. A deep frown furrowed his brow as he
changed slowly but something inside him knew he had to shake this
off, he had to captain this match, he had to lead the team to
victory.
Two and half hours later
Harry was clutching the snitch, a wide grin on his face, the crowd
and the team cheering. It had been a little too close for comfort,
the two teams alternating the lead by ten or twenty points at a time.
When he took the snitch Gryffindor had just taken the lead and the
Hufflepuff seeker was hot on his tail. In a dizzy spin of euphoria
Harry found himself in the common room with a bottle of butterbeer in
his hand, a swirl of action kept him moving, kept him from
remembering that he had intended to speak to Ron and although a part
of him sub-consciously missed Hermione's presence, there were so many
people there wanting his attention he had no chance to dwell on it.

Hermione rolled over onto
her side and watched him, his pale chest moved gently up and down as
he recovered his breath, his brow was lightly dotted with beads of
sweat, his cheeks and lips flushed.
'I can't believe how
amazing that was.' Hermione said with a broad smile. He chuckled and
turned his head to look at her. Hermione marvelled at the way his
eyes danced with life, she would never have thought she would see
this sight.
'You know, before you
came along I would not have missed an engagement that I was expected
to attend.' He smirked, his voice undulating in the tone she was so
used to and she smiled again.
'I love it when we get to
be alone together when the rest of the school is assembled
somewhere.' She grinned wickedly, 'I feel naughty.' She ran a finger
over his chest, through the fine hair that curled over it. Something
flickered across Severus's face that melted the smile from her own
face. Very occasionally a moment like this passed between them, when
they both felt the weight of their actions, it caused a tension that
Hermione despised. The last two months had contained a handful of
these moments, interspersed with the other kind of discomfort, the
one that came from their potion-making sessions. Since that night
when Severus had finally accepted what they both knew, the crucial
ingredient that they could no longer ignore and the one thing that
simply trying to get hold of could very well get him killed.
Voldemort's blood.
'We should probably get
up and go to the lab. It's likely that after the match Dumbledore
will come looking for me.' Hermione's face froze. Getting caught
naked in Severus's bed did not come top of her list of things to do
today. There had been a few occasions over the last two months when
Dumbledore had visited them in the lab while they were working,
Hermione had spent the whole time in a state of hypertension,
terrified that he would be able to tell that there was something
between her and Severus. To her lover's credit, he did a remarkable
job of being his usual snarky and snide self. Hermione usually had to
stifle her giggles when he turned his persona on for the benefit of
others, but not in front of Dumbledore. There wasn't the slightest
inclination to giggle on those occasions.
The pair had become very
comfortable around each other and spent as much time as they felt
they could get away with either in the Potions lab or in Severus's
rooms. Hermione had taken to sitting on one of the plush sofas in
front of the fire to do her homework, while Severus marked other
students' homework at his desk or on one of the other sofas. They
would occasionally glance at each other at the same time, catch each
other's eye and exchange smiles. Hermione felt like they had been
that way forever, it felt so natural and the days of being a cowering
school girl afraid of not handing in her homework both on time and
perfect seemed like a distant dream. Since that incident when Severus
forgot to mutter the crucial charm, he had been mixing a potion for
her to take once a week that removed the necessity of the charm. They
had been having more sex than Hermione would ever have imagined
possible or healthy previously and she felt so completely different
now from that naïve school girl.
Severus kissed her
forehead and swung out of bed. She watched as he moved towards the
bathroom. 'I'm going to have a shower. Want to join me?' He raised an
eyebrow suggestively and Hermione broke into a broad grin. She jumped
out of the bed and chased him into the bathroom. Severus caught hold
of her and pressed her against the glass door of the shower, pressing
his lips to hers in a hot and passionate kiss, she felt herself melt
under him, despite the cold against her back. He reached past her and
turned on the shower, hot water burst forth and steam began to rise
around them as they moved into the shower cubicle, still locked
together at the lips. The powerful spray made Hermione's skin tingle
and she gasped for breath against Severus's strong kiss and the heat
of the water. He pushed her against the wall, the olive green tiles
wet and cool, the water covering both of them. Severus grabbed her
hips and lifted her up against the wall, kissing her neck and she
obligingly wrapped her legs around his waist, she felt his erection
pressing against her and moaned, urging him on.
The water flowed over and
between the couple, almost all friction was lost as their hands
traced each other's curves and Severus slid himself inside her
easily. Hands in each other's hair and grasping at wet flesh, they
writhed together under the heavy flow of hot water, surrounded by
steam, Hermione groaned as her insides swelled and her passion built,
generating a heat inside herself to rival that of the water. Her hair
now soaked through, clung to her neck and face, as did his, her
fingers tightly entwined in and pulling at it. Severus arched his
back, pulling his head back and moaning loudly as he erupted,
slamming Hermione hard against the wall, to which she responded with
her own orgasmic cry. Gradually her breath returned to her, the heat
of the shower replaced the heat of the sex and Hermione was released
from Severus's tight grip, she slid down the wet wall, onto unsteady
feet and the couple kissed softly, washing each other's hair in the
euphoria of post-orgasmic bliss.
