tell who it is later in the chapter. I’m not that mean!!)
Chapter 16 – Epilogue – It’s The End of The Story
As We Know It (And I Feel Fine!)
“Push!” Poppy urged Ginny Potter as another contraction
ripped through her belly.
“Please,
no more,” whined the mother-to-be breathlessly. “I can’t push anymore.”
“C’mon,
love,” Harry James Potter – Boy Who Lived, Chosen One, Gryffindor and
all-around Hero – coaxed his wife. “You can do it. James and Sirius are almost
here. Push!”
“You
push you son of a bitch!” Ginny screeched. “This is all your
fault and you’ll never touch me again!”
“Now,
Gin,” complained Harry. “That’s hardly fair -”
“Perhaps,
Harry, dear,” Poppy gave Harry an amused look. “You should wait out in the
other room.”
Ginny
started crying. “No! Please – ugh – Madam – uhhh – Pomfrey. Please – ooww! –
Please let him stay. I’ll be good!”
Harry
tried to look concerned for his wife and outraged at the medi-witch at that
same time. Needless to say, it didn’t work out the way he wanted it to, and
Poppy giggled at him.
“Oh,
quit glaring, and attend your wife,” she turned to the woman on the hospital
bed in front of her. “And if you want him to stay, you’d better quit calling
him names and push!”
With
a half grunt-sob, Ginny pushed as hard as she could. When she heard a baby
crying in the background, she stopped.
“Very well done. Just one more,
now. Push!” Poppy congratulated as he handed
the first little boy to Severus for bathing.
Harry
held Ginny’s hand as she started pushing again. “James is beautiful,
hon. Now, let’s let Sirius join his big brother. Push, baby.”
“I am
pushing you – love,” grunted the red-faced witch.
“Stop
pushing!” the medi-witch cried. “This one is breach – I have to turn him
around.”
“Figures
Sirius would try to come into the world bass-ackwards,” was Harry’s rueful
comment.
Severus
looked as if he wanted to comment, but thought better of it and just snickered
instead. Harry gave him a very Slytherin-like smirk back.
After
a few moments of the older witch trying to twist the baby around, she finally
said, “There. He’s turned around now. Push, Ginerva.”
And
the pushing commenced. Harry sat next to the mother of his children, murmuring
praise and encouragement to her as she struggled with the birthing of the
second son.
Finally,
after another hour of pushing and grunting, crying and cursing, little Sirius
Potter joined his twin James in the big world.
They
both had the red hair, blue eyes and freckles that was
the trademark of the Weasley family.
As
Severus and Poppy handed the twins to their parents, Severus quipped. “They’re
definitely Weasleys.”
Harry
laughed as he took Sirius from Poppy. “And not only are they Weasley
twins, they’re Potter twins, too!”
Severus
stopped mid-stride and stared in horror as the realization of Weasley/Potter
twins (names James and Sirius, for crying out loud!) were now in
the world. And they’d be attending Hogwarts in eleven years.
“Oh,
bugger. I wonder if I’ll be too young to retire in 10 years?” he moaned. He
smiled to himself as the room occupants started laughing at his quandary.
*************
Nausea,
fatigue, and moodiness,” Poppy’s patient complained.
“Is
there a certain time of day when the symptoms become more apparent?” Questioned the medi-witch.
“Well,
the fatigue and moodiness are pretty much all the time. The nausea sometimes
hits in the morning, but usually I get it in the afternoon.”
“And
have you added anything new to your diet?” She wanted to know.
“No, nothing. I’m eating the same foods I’ve been eating
since coming to Hogwarts and before.”
“Alright. Hold still while I run some tests,” the witch
sighed. She pulled out her wand and started swishing and flicking over her
patient rapidly.
“What?”
Was Poppy’s startled question. She ran the last test
again, getting the same result. “Well, isn’t that interesting?”
“What?
What is it Madam Pomfrey? Is it something horrible?” He asked with trepidation.
“What?”
A distracted medi-witch looked up to see fear in her patients
eyes. When she realized what he’d asked, she smiled indulgently. “Oh, no –
nothing like that. Just a bit – unexpected. I’d like
to get a second opinion to confirm my findings before I tell you, though. Just
to make sure. Do you have a preference of who I call?”
“Professor
Dumbledore, please,” he requested.
Poppy
raised an eyebrow, but didn’t comment on her patients
choice. “Alright, let me go get him. I’ll be right back.”
*************
“Oh,
Draco, isn’t she precious?” Hermione asked her husband.
“Beautiful – just like her mother.”
The
new parents cooed and awed over their baby daughter ,knowing
that there were no more threats to them.
“I
never thought I’d see the day when the Gryffindor Know-It-All would use an
Unforgivable,” smirked Draco.
“Why?
Is that only allowed of the Slytherin Prince?” She teased back.
“Not
at all – it just about made my heart stop, though.”
******FLASHBACK******
Then
Hermione jumped up from her prone position, training her wand on the Death
Eater. “Lucius!” her voice rang out.
Mya!
What are you doing?! Four voices rang out in her head.
Exercising my right. Was her only reply as Lucius
turned in amazement to see her back on her feet.
“Give
my regards to Tom Riddle when you see him in Hades!” she screeched at the elder
Malfoy. “Avada Kedavra!”
It
seemed like a dream to Hermione as Lucius’ cold, dead body hit the ground.
People
were swearing and screaming, looking for a place to hide from anymore insane
Dark wizards.
Harry,
Draco, Ron, Severus and the rest of the Weasley boys were staring at her,
mouths hanging open.
“Bugs
will fly in if you don’t close your mouths,” she giggled at them.
Ginny
was in the back of the chapel with Molly and Arthur, clutching her stomach, as
Molly held her, trying to call out to the rest across the bedlam of the
sanctum.
“Harry!
Poppy!” Hermione pointed to Ginny and the two were off to the back of the
chapel, Harry picking up his wife and following Poppy out.
Draco
went to Hermione, to check for injuries on his wife.
******END FLASHBACK******
“What
did you mean by ‘exercising your right’, anyway?” Draco questioned.
“When
Lucius escaped Azkaban right after the Final Battle, he went after my family. I
was able to capture him before he could hurt them. When he went on trial for
the attack, I was the only other witch or wizard allowed besides the Wizengamot. As part of the sentence, I was given the right
to kill Lucius if he ever threatened me or my family,” she shrugged. “He did,
so I did. He knew the consequences, but he chose to try anyway.”
“Mya,
I’m so sorry,” Draco felt keenly the regret that so much of his family had, at
one point or another, tried to hurt her. Including himself.
“Don’t
you dare,” Hermione stopped the heart-wrenching apologies before they could
start. “You’ve already apologized for the things you did and said to me, as did
Narcissa-mum. The only person who still owes me one is Lucius,” here she
smirked. “And he’s dead. I’ll accept that as his apology.”
“I
love you, Lady Malfoy,” Draco drew her into his arms. “And
our daughter.”
“And
I love you, Lord Malfoy,” Hermione smiled up at him, then
shifted her gaze down to their daughter. “And Dru loves her Daddy, too. Don’t
you, Dru?”
Drucilla
looked up at her mother and father with serious eyes. Then she flung her arms
wide open and laughed.
Her
parents smiled at her, laughing softly when she, serious once again, tried very
hard to shove the whole of one of her tiny fists into her mouth.
There
was a knock on the door, and both smiled as Narcissa Black, (she’d changed back
to her maiden surname) opened the door wit ha smile to see her new family happy
and safe.
A
new day had risen for the Malfoys. In the years to come, Draco would replace
Arthur Weasley as Minister of Magic, Hermione took over for Madam Pince in the Hogwarts library, and Narcissa became a
medi-witch and took over for Madam Pomfrey.
And
at the ripe age of 35, Drucilla Elaine Malfoy became the youngest witch or
wizard ever to become the Headmistress of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and
Wizardry, setting a standard that was held for centuries after she stepped down
at 125.
*************
Harry
and Ginny Potter sat in their home, which they had built just a few hundred
yards from The Burrow, playing with James and Sirius.
Just
as the game was promising to get really good, the Potters only house elf,
Squeaky, popped into the room.
“Mister
Harry, sir, you have a guest at the door. It is Mister Weasley-Ron, sir.”
“Well,
go ahead and show him in,” Harry didn’t understand why the house elf was
announcing Ron – he knew the few that didn’t need to be announced and Ron was
one of them.
“Sir,
Squeaky knows Mister Weasley-Ron doesn’t need to be showed in. Mister
Weasley-Ron is acting peculiar, though, Sir.”
“How so?” Ginny asked.
“Squeaky
will show you. Please come with Squeaky.”
Harry
shared a look with Ginny as he got up to follow the small magical creature. What’s
going on with him now? He though to himself.
“I
don’t know, dear. Go check it out.” Ginny answered his thought as she watched
the babies rolling around on the floor.
Harry
raised an eyebrow.
“Don’t
look at me like that. It’s not my fault you were broadcasting. Go. Squeaky’s probably apoplectic right now.”
Harry
shook his head in amusement as he went to see what was going on with his best
mate.
When
Harry entered the foyer, Ron was standing inside, staring off into space while
Squeaky tried to get his attention.
“I’ll
take it from here, Squeaky. I’ll let you know if I need you again,” Squeaky
bowed and popped out.
“Hey, Ron. What’s up?” Harry questioned his friend. When his
friend continued to star off, he waved his hand in front of his face. “Hello? Earth to Ron?”
Ron
shook himself when he realized Harry was staring at him worriedly. “Oh. Hullo,
Harry. Can I talk to you and Gin for a minute? I seem to have another situation,” he sighed in
exasperation. (A/N: This is my attempt at humor – Ron seems to get himself in many situations in my story, hm?)
Harry’s
eyebrows shot up into his hairline, but nodded and led Ron into the room that
contained his family.
******FLASHBACK******
“Now, Ronald, Madam Pomfrey says she’s
getting an odd result to one of the tests she ran on you. She’d like me to run
the same test to see what my results will be. Is this acceptable to you?”
Dumbledore smiled at him, his blue eyes twinkling.
“Yes, it is,” Ron acquiesced.
Albus pulled his wand with a nod and cast
the spell. “Oh, yes. I see.”
“Excuse me, sir, but you see what exactly?” Ron asked nervously.
“Now, Ronald, I’ve asked you to call me
Albus,” his blue eyes twinkled madly. “so, Poppy
didn’t enlighten you. Then I suppose I should,” he pointed at the faint
reddish-pink glow emanating from Ron’s abdomen. “This glow indicates you are
expecting.”
Ron stared at Albus blankly for a moment,
waiting for the rest. When Albus didn’t explain, he asked. “I’m sorry.
Expecting what, exactly?”
“Why, a child, Ronald. You are about a month
along.”
Ron’s eyes rolled into the back of his head
as he fainted.
******END
FLASHBACK******
Ron
had his head in his hands as he finished telling his story to his best mate and
little sister.
“It’s
Severus’, isn’t it?” asked Harry.
Ron
nodded without raising his head.
“And
you came to us first?” Ginny asked
incredulously. When her brother nodded his head again, she added. “Well, we’re
very flattered, but should you be telling Severus this?”
As
Ron was about to respond, Severus walked in.
“Tell
me what?”
Ron’s
head shot up and a look of horror covered his face.
“I –
I… well, you see…” he put his head back in his hands. “Oh, Merlin,” he groaned,
feeling nauseous from more than just the pregnancy.
Severus
could feel the anxiety rolling off Ron in waves. “Weasley #6, calm down. After
all we’ve been through, it can’t be that
bad.”
“Even if I were pregnant?”
“You
said what?” Severus asked, mouth hanging open.
“I
just found out I’m pregnant,” he reiterated. “I haven’t been feeling very well
lately, so I went to see Poppy. Albus confirmed it. I’m a little over a month
pregnant.”
Severus
stared at Ron in shock. For only the second time in his life, he couldn’t think
of anything to say.
“It’s
alright, Sev, if you don’t want to be a parent.” Ron took his silence the wrong
way again. “Mum and Pop would
probably raise it. Or Fred, or George, or…”
“Will
you marry me?” Severus blurted.
Ron
stopped dead. “What did you just say?”
“I
asked if you, Ronald Bilius Weasley, would marry me.”
“Sev,
you don’t have to ask because…” Ron stopped when Severus shook his head.
“I’m
not. I’ve wanted to ask you for some time, Weasley #6.”
“Ask
me again, then.”
Severus
smirked to himself. “Ronald Weasley, will you marry me?”
Ronald
threw himself into Severus’ arms and yelled. “YES!”
“Well,”
smile Harry. He laughed when the two men jumped – they’d forgotten he and Ginny
were there. “I guess this means we have another wedding and baby to plan for.”
Ron
and Severus traded grins, then Ron kissed Severus
deeply. When he was done ravaging the Potions Masters lips, he grinned. “Yeah –
I guess we do.”
“Now,
you just have to tell Mum and Dad,” smirked Ginny. She
laughed when the three men groaned.
*************
That
Sunday, Ron and Severus found themselves eating lunch in the backyard of The
Burrow.
After
they had been there for about an hour, Harry and Ginny decided that they’d
waited for the fireworks from the news of Ron and Severus’ impending nuptials
and child to start long enough.
“So,
Ron,” Ginny smirked at her brother. “Anything new happen in
your life lately?”
Molly
and Arthur didn’t notice the glare sent her way by Ron and Severus before Ron
sent a brief thought to her and Harry. You’ll
pay for that, sis.
You mean you’ll try to make me pay for it, she smirked back.
I can practically guarantee it, Mrs. Potter,
purred Severus.
Ginny
and Harry gulped audibly.
“Yes,
Ron, Severus,” Molly pulled their attention away from the Potters. “I haven’t
really spoken to either of you since Draco and Hermione’s wedding.”
Ron
turned pleading eyes to Severus.
Not on your life, Weasley #6, was Severus’ response. Do you really think I like
having your mother yelling at me anymore than do you?
Ron
sighed. “Actually, we do have some news,” he braced himself. “It seems that I’m
about a month pregnant and Severus and I are getting bonded,” he said all this
very fast, then took a large drink of the pumpkin
juice sitting in front of him, waiting for the impending explosion.
He
wasn’t disappointed. “What?!” Molly and Arthur
exclaimed in unison.
Ron
sighed. “I said…”
“We
heard you the first time, dear,” Molly interrupted. “When will you bond?”
Ron
and Severus just stared at Molly. They hadn’t really decided when they’d bond.
“Uh, we haven’t set a date, yet,” Ron stammered.
“You
will be bonded before the baby comes,
won’t you?” This was more of a statement of direction than a question.
“Of
course, Mum!”
“Then
congratulations, both of you!” Molly got up and hugged Ron and Severus. “Now,
eat your food before it gets cold.”
Ron
and Severus traded grins, smirked at the Potters and tucked in.
“We’ll
let you know as soon as we decide on a date,” Severus offered.
Molly
smirked at him. “See that you do. Now, tell me when you found out you were
expecting.”
And
as the family continued to eat, Ron told his parents of when he found out he
was about to become a ‘mother’.
*************
“Well,
Albus, did it all come together the way you thought it would?” Minerva
McGonagall asked her longtime friend as they stood off to one side of Ron
Weasley and Severus Snape’s wedding reception.
“Oh,
yes, indeed,” he confirmed. “Perhaps not the couplings I expected,” he frowned.
“Nor did I expect Mr. Longbottom to betray Harry, Ron and Hermione,” he sighed.
“But I did know they would all fall
in love and be happy for the rest of their lives.”
Minerva
shook her head. “You’re scary, you know that? Brilliant, but
scary.”
Harry
and Hermione, who were not standing far away with their spouses, overheard
Minerva’s final comment. They exchanged glances before breaking out into
laughter.
Ron
and Severus, who were making the rounds through their guests, walked up. “What
are you two laughing at?” Ron questioned.
Hermione
smirked and leaned over to murmur in his ear. As she pulled away, Ron’s eyes
were wide, then he, too, started laughing.
Harry
shared the joke with Ginny, Draco and Severus as Hermione and Ron shared a
laugh.
Ginny
rolled her eyes. “Leave it to Ron to make a comment like that.”
“Yes,
well, we were off to help Harry get the Sorcerer’s Stone and she’d used
Petrificus Totalus perfectly, and that’s
a third year spell, that is,” Ron tried to explain, but his explanation just
sent the group of friends into laughter again.
Molly
sat at the table reserved for family with her husband, watching the group of
friends talk and laugh. “We did pretty well with out children, Arthur.”
Arthur
sat next to his wife, watching as his children laughed easily with each other,
sharing a bod that would last a lifetime, and beyond.
“Yes,
dear, I would say, we did extremely well with our children.”
Molly
smiled and nodded, then laid her head on her husbands
shoulder, content in watching her children.
*************
And so, my children, the time has come to close
the book. There will be other days, and other stories,
but this tale is
finished.*
A/N: Wow. I can’t believe that this one is FINALLY DONE!!!
WOOO HOOO!!! I’m sooo excited!!! I just can’t believe it! Thanks so, so much to
all the people that kept with it and didn’t lose interest or forget about me. I
love you all!!!
Lot’s of reviews, please! They feed
my muse!!!
I am working on a new story, but it’s not a Hermione/Draco
story – well, not really. It’s a Harry/Draco/Hermione story! That’s right, all
three, all at once! WOO HOO!! The title is “The Trinari Clan”. (I wish I could
remember who originally thought up the concept, but I can’t. So, if you know
someone that has written a story that is similar, let me know so I can give
credit where credit is due.)
* - I cannot take credit for the little saying at the end of
my story. That is the last paragraph on the last page of The Seeress of Kell by David Eddings – which is the last book of
the Malloreon series. You need to read it, and the Belgariad, but read the
Belgariad first! The Malloreon is the second series.
