A note on Anaïs Nin:
I mentioned in one of the first chapters that the inspiration for
Vivienne's predicament came from one of Anaïs Nin's stories. I can now reveal
that it was "Lilith" from Delta of Venus, which is one of her
most famous books. In it, the main character is supposedly a frigid woman whose
husband one day tells her that he has replaced her sugar substitute pills with a
powerful aphrodisiac, causing her to spend an evening out with her friend
getting more and more worked up just thinking about what effect the drug was
having on her. In the end, it turned out to be purely psychological as she
invented her own arousal. Granted, in "Un Désire" Vivienne was
truly hexed by Bella, but the question becomes (since love was the countercurse)
at what point was she entirely free of its grasp, i.e. was it love at first sight? Could she have been immune
from the moment she met Snape, since she was already attracted to him even
though she did not think him handsome? Did she expect to feel her arm twitching
when she knew he would be coming out of the Great Hall and simply noticed Draco
looking at her, effectively drawing the correct conclusion about him? Or was it
much later? I leave it up to you.And for those who have never heard of Anaïs Nin, she is a Frenchwoman
from the early 20th century, who became infinitely famous as a writer of
erotica. Delta of Venus is a fantastic book, which I highly recommend. It is
