Word of what had transpired in the Great Hall on Monday morning spread through the castle like wildfire, and by the end of the week, everybody seemed to have their own version of what happened. Many claim Richard punched Ron in the face so hard that he lost a tooth. Some swore they heard someone cast an Unforgivable Curse. A few people said that Ron tried making a pass at Claire Larsen but failed to realize that she was standing right next to her boyfriend, and in response, she gave him a bloody nose. That last rumor was Draco's personal favorite. Not only did it make make Weasel look a loser with no game, it just made him look plain stupid.
The gossip that floated through the castle's drafty hallways always proved to be entertaining to Draco, and he never failed to be surprised by how easily some people accepted information from a source that appeared to be somewhat legitimate. He knew that a great majority of what he heard about Monday morning was a load of bullocks, but he did know for a fact that all parties involved in the scuffle were sentenced to a week's worth of detentions. That meant Potty and Weasel would be unable to go to Hogsmeade that Saturday, which also meant that it would be a perfect opportunity to spend some time with his favorite Gryffindor. Draco had been itching to ask Hermione if she'd like to meet with him someplace in Hogsmeade, but he wasn't quite sure if it was the best idea. Being seen with her in Hogsmeade would cause the rumor mill to stir violently (or even break, for all he knew) and he could only imagine what foul things people would say about them. Personally, he did not care about what the feeble-minded of Hogwarts thought of him, but he knew that it might hurt Hermione, and that, he did not want. On the flip side, Hermione could completely reject his offer to go to Hogsmeade, and even call his proposal silly, or something worse. Draco couldn't chance it. He knew Hermione liked him; that was quite obvious, but he wasn't sure if she felt that there might be something more between them. After they lay together under the stars on the Astronomy Tower all those nights ago he knew things were different, at least for him. He wished he could just ask Hermione. Ask her if she was falling for him, just as he was falling madly in love with her. …"I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO WEAR!!!" Lavender wailed in desperation, frantically shuffling around her room while Hermione and Parvati attempted to do some damage control.
Lavender was going on her first official date with Nott, and to say she was nervous was a complete understatement. "What about this top, Lav? It shows off your cleavage!" Parvati suggested encouragingly, holding out a red low-cut blouse. "I don't want him to think I'm easy!" Lavender whined, sitting on her bed stubbornly. "Lavender… you do realize you two have been snogging and shagging for the past few weeks, don't you?" Hermione asked, unable to understand why her friend was stressing out so much over a date in Hogsmeade."I know, but this is our first real date! I don't want him to remember that I looked like a harlot!" Hermione sighed patiently. She highly doubted that Nott would even remember what she was wearing a week from now, but she decided it would be wise not to say that to Lavender. "Okay, stop fussing. What about…" Hermione rummaged through her wardrobe. "This?" She pulled out a flowery dress from the depths of her closet."Oh my gosh, Hermione, it's perfect! You are such a life saver!" Lavender exclaimed as she leapt off her bed and tightly embraced the brunette. Parvati gave Hermione a grateful look while Lavender's back was facing her, and she silently began charming the mountain of clothes piled on the floor back into her dresser. An hour later, Lavender was all dolled up for her date, and Hermione was actually quite impressed at the progress they had made. She was also going into Hogsmeade that day, but she was nowhere as dressed up as Lavender as she intended on enjoying a good book with a cup of tea at one of the new cafés. "Are you ready?" Parvati asked her best friend.Lavender sucked in a great big breath of air and blew it out slowly. "As ready as I'll ever be." The two friends looked at each other for a few moments, and then proceeded to squeal with excitement, jumping up and down in unison. …"There's Padma!" Parvati exclaimed, pointing at her identical twin who was standing outside Honeyduke's."I'll see you two later today. Have an amazing time, Lav!" And with that, Parvati gave Lavender a quick hug and headed towards the sweet shop.
Lavender let out a shaky breath. "Do you see him yet?" She asked Hermione. "No, but we're a bit early. Don't worry!" Hermione couldn't help but laugh a little at seeing how jumpy and nervous her friend was. "You do know that he likes you, right?"Lavender smiled weakly. "Yes, I know. It's just that I don't get asked on dates very often. I don't want to ruin it." Hermione smiled sympathetically. She understood what Lavender was going through. Having a physical relationship didn't mean very much if one or both of the people involved were just in it for the sex. Lavender wanted something more, and going on a date was that potential gateway to having that. Truth be told, Hermione was a bit envious. She wished that she was getting all dressed up to go on a date. A date with Draco, to be exact. A date where he opened the door for her, pulled out her chair, kissed her softly at the end of the night. However, she never let herself get too immersed in these little fantasies; she knew they held no substance when it came to Draco Malfoy. "Oh, he's here!" Lavender whispered, grabbing onto Hermione's wrist fiercely. "Calm down," The brunette instructed, wincing from the vice-grip her friend had on her. "You're going to have a wonderful time." She added hastily, smiling encouragingly. "Thank you, Hermione." Lavender took a deep, steadying breath. Hermione felt her heart skip a bit when she saw that Nott wasn't alone; he was accompanied by somebody who was far too blonde for his own good. "Ladies," Draco greeted casually as he approached the pair of Gryffindors. Hermione couldn't help but notice how handsome he looked in his presumably custom-fitted coat and black slacks. She tried her best to keep from blushing. "Hi Lavender," Nott smiled bashfully. "You look beautiful." Lavender giggled, and held out her hand for Nott to take. "Shall we?" She asked breathlessly. Nott took her hand, and gave Hermione and Draco a small nod before waltzing over to Madame Puddifoot's with his date. "Ah, lovebirds," Draco mocked dreamily once they were a good distance away. "Let's hope this goes well, because I'm not sure if I can deal with Lavender when she's on edge again." Hermione said sternly, crossing her arms over her chest. "They'll be fine. Nott's bonkers for her. He wouldn't shut up on the walk over here." Draco responded distastefully. Hermione felt that jealously bubble up once more inside her. "And what are you planning to do on this fine day?" Draco asked after a few moments of silence, eyeing her up and down."Well, I was planning on going to that tea shop that's just opened by the greengrocers." Hermione was suspicious. Why did he care what she was going to do in Hogsmeade?"You mean Brew? I have yet to visit that place. I'll go with you." Hermione tried her best to hide the stunned expression she had on her face. Draco Malfoy just invited himself to have tea with her in public. She knew that she should have refused, but her curiosity got the best of her. Did he actually want to go out with her? There was only one way to find out. "Okay, then… let's go." Hermione said awkwardly as she turned around. She began walking swiftly in the hopes that not too many people would see them together. To her relief, Draco did a good job at keeping a low profile. They didn't bump into any familiar faces on the way there, and when they finally arrived at the tea shop, Hermione was delighted to see that there were no Hogwarts students in sight. "Looks like this place caters to a more mature crowd," Draco pointed out discreetly as he shut the door behind him. The seating hostess approached them. "Table for two?""Yes please." Hermione responded, as she hastily glanced back at Draco. This felt so… new. "Come this way." They were settled comfortably in a corner table in the back of the shop. There was a low buzz of chatter in the cafe as customers sipped their drinks and nibbled on biscuits, breads, and cakes. Draco ordered a hot chai, and Hermione had a cup of earl grey that she'd been craving all morning. "So?" Draco inquired after a few moments of silence. "What?" asked Hermione. "You're not very fun company."Hermione scoffed. "I was planning on reading a book with my tea. I wasn't expecting company." Draco didn't say anything."You don't find this a tiny bit odd?" Hermione asked in a low voice, motioning between them and their surroundings."Why would this be odd? We're sitting in a tea shop, drinking tea like civilized people."Hermione cleared her throat. "You know what I mean, Draco. What if someone sees us together?" "Then they would see two people simply enjoying a hot drink with each other." He was getting a bit agitated. Hermione busied herself with the little string that hung from her tea bag. She had a frown on her face and she wiggled in her seat. Draco hated seeing her like that. Did she really abhor the idea of them being seen in public together? Any urges Draco had about telling her how he felt slowly melted away. He silently sipped his chai, looking discreetly around the shop. He was quite surprised that he didn't see any Hogwarts students milling about. Just as the thought stuck him, the pug-like countenance of Pansy Parkinson came forth through the door, followed closely by Blaise Zabini. "Well, shit." Draco stated simply. "What?" squeaked Hermione, making to turn around to follow Draco's gaze. "Don't turn around." Draco said sharply. "It's Pansy and Blaise." Hermione sat still, her eyes full of worry. "Have they seen us?" "Not yet," Draco said, slowly getting up. "They'll see us if we make for the door. Meet me in the back, where the lavatories are. There should be an exit there. I'll go first." He got up, left a few Galleons on the table, and swiftly made for the back of the shop. Hermione sneaked a glance behind her and saw that the two Slytherins were seated on the other side of the shop. Her stomach tightened as she watched Blaise give a smirk to the hostess while Pansy's attention was elsewhere. Not wanting to risk being seen, Hermione got up and followed Draco's path, turning a corner into a smaller area where the men and women's lavatories were located. Draco was nowhere in sight. Alarmed, she searched for an exit, but there didn't seem to be any other way out. "Draco?" She hissed. Silence. Annoyed, she turned to make her way to the front of the shop to leave, when she felt a pair of hands grab her out of nowhere. She fumbled to grab her wand but she found herself falling. Before she hit the ground, the same pair of hands gripped her under the arms and hoisted her up. She turned around, startled, to find a grinning Draco. "What is wrong with you?!" She snapped, stowing her wand. "I really couldn't resist," Draco chuckled. He put a hand on her shoulder. "It was all in good fun, I promise. Plus, I found something." Hermione looked around. They were in a small hallway decorated with a few portraits of farm animals, and a staircase at the end. "Where are we?" "Well, while you were taking your sweet time getting over here, I decided to snoop a bit. Most wizard shops have a hidden entry to an upper floor, usually disguised as a piece of wall. This shop's staircase was hidden next to the lavatories." "Isn't this sort of like trespassing?" Hermione asked, her brown eyes shining with concern."A bit. That's what makes it fun. Let's go upstairs." Before she could even reply Draco was making his way up the stairs in long, elegant strides. Hermione couldn't help but admire his backside as he ascended the staircase. They found themselves in another hallway that looked very much like hallways at the Leaky Cauldron. Draco had opened the first door nearest to him and was standing in the middle of a fairly spacious bedroom. The bed was large and neatly made, facing a brick fireplace on the other side of the room. There was a small sofa and plush rug near the hearth, giving the room a very cozy feel."Care to join me in here, Granger?" Draco asked suggestively, smirking."Join you? What?" Hermione's eyes widened as she became aware of what he was suggesting. "Draco, no. This is so wrong!" She whispered, scandalized. "Come on, how often do you do this?" Hermione opened her mouth but no words came out. As wrong as she knew it was, a small part of her did want to do it. It didn't help that Draco looked so handsome in his coat. Damn him. She shut the door and muttered a locking spell. She stood in the bedroom facing Draco's towering figure. He delicately raised an eyebrow, questioning her once again."Quickly." Draco grinned and had her in his arms in a matter of seconds, kissing her fiercely. He began leading them to the bed when Hermione pulled away from the kiss and stopped. "Not here. On the sofa," she breathed out. Draco's silver eyes flashed and he turned them around. Hermione began unbuttoning his coat, feeling nervous and aroused at the same time. She fumbled on the buttons but managed to push his coat off as she felt the back of her calves touch the sofa. She quickly undid his belt and unzipped his trousers, feeling the heat beginning to pool in her knickers. Draco was already rock hard, and she pulled out his cock, forcefully squeezing its length. Hermione hastily pulled off her jeans and knickers and climbed onto the sofa, facing the wall behind her. Draco thought he would pass out from the excitement that was building up inside him. His cock was throbbing and all he could think of was fucking Hermione as far into the sofa as he could. He could see how wet she was as she leaned over the couch, her plump rear wiggling enticingly just for him. Without waiting another second, he grabbed her by the waist and pushed himself into her sleeve, groaning at how hot and tight she felt. Hermione gasped and threw her head back as he filled her so completely and perfectly. She gripped the sofa as he began rhythmically thrusting into her, gasping at the quick pace he picked up. "Keep going, harder," Hermione begged, pushing her hips back to meet each one of his delicious thrusts. Draco contained a growl as he pulled himself out all the way, then quickly slammed himself into her slick heat. He squeezed the ample flesh of her backside, pushing into her forcefully as he felt his release rapidly building up. The sound of furious slapping skin and moans and grunts of pleasure filled the room, and Draco shut his eyes, trying not to finish too early. Hermione felt the familiar quiver build up in her core, and she was unable to repress the moan that escaped her lips as her orgasm sensually crept over her body. "Oh Draco, please don't stop, I'm about to – I'm going – " Draco reached underneath her belly and found her slick, swollen nub, and gently stroked it as the brunette reached her climax. "Yes! Oh – oh YES!" The sudden stimulation of her clit pushed Hermione over the edge and her body went taut as her walls convulsed violently, squeezing Draco's cock until his own orgasm spilled out. He buried himself into her molten heat as far as he could, pulling her up so that her back stood flush against his chest until he was completely milked. Panting, Draco pulled out of her trembling entrance and gave Hermione a small kiss on her neck, basking in his post-coital high."That was incredible," Hermione managed to gasp out, shakily reaching for her wand. She cast a silent Scourgify. Draco gave her a smug little smirk as he shrugged on his coat, and she couldn't help but smile as well. "Lucky that you went snooping around, wasn't it?" She teased."Well, I have a tiny confession to make." "What is it?" She asked amiably, buttoning her jeans. "I've already been to this tea shop. That was when I actually discovered the hidden stairway." Hermione looked up at him. "I just told you I had never been here so that I could –" "Have sex with me in here?" Hermione demanded, cutting him off sharply. The smile was no longer on her face. Draco frowned. "No, I just wanted to – I wanted to –" he couldn't voice it out. Hermione furrowed her brow. She honestly thought that Draco had just wanted to spend time with her, to be with her. She was obviously mistaken."I should have told you not to come with me." She shook her head sadly. "You know, a part of me wished that there might have been something more between us. More than just shagging. That night we looked at the stars together, I thought – I just thought… things could change. But it's taken me this long to realize I shouldn't have expected anything of the sort from you." She couldn't believe she was revealing these thoughts to him, but she couldn't help as the words spilled effortlessly from her lips. She wanted to hurt him, just as he was hurting her. But from the blank look on his face, her words didn't seem to be doing much. "Harry was right. They were both right. I can't believe I threw away my best friends for this." Draco looked at her coldly. This conversation was going in the complete opposite direction of what he intended, and he didn't know how to stop it. He felt his stomach tighten painfully as she glared at him with such disdain. He couldn't bring himself to tell her how he really felt about her, not when she was acting like this. "Hermione, just listen to me," Draco bit out. "I didn't mean for it to sound like that, but –" "But that's what you meant, right? You haven't said anything that would make me think otherwise." Draco shut his eyes and took a deep breath. She was driving him to his wit's ends with her interruptions and assumptions. He cursed himself for opening his big mouth; he really did want to spend time with her. The sex was just an… added bonus. But Hermione didn't seem to think of it that way. She apparently didn't think he was capable of feeling anything real for her, but she was completely wrong. He sighed and made no move to respond. It would be best to keep quiet rather than say something that he would regret later on. Hermione glared at him, her eyes shining with disappointment. "I suppose this is it, then? We're through, Draco." She brushed past him and swiftly made her way downstairs, ignoring the pointed stares of Pansy and Blaise as she whipped out the front door. …Draco couldn't help but replay the argument he just had with Hermione over and over in his mind as he lumbered through Hogsmeade, heading back to the castle. That night we looked at the stars together, I thought – I just thought… things could change.Draco smiled bitterly to himself. Hermione did feel that there was something more between them, but now she wanted nothing to do with him. Why was he so afraid of being honest with her? He had the perfect opportunity to redeem himself, tell her that the only reason he was acting like a prat was because he couldn't imagine that somebody as wonderful as her could fall for a cold soul like him. He buried his hands in his pockets and glanced absentmindedly at the display of a jewelry shop he was passing. A bright, white sparkle caught his eye. He stopped and stared into the shop, feeling the hope slowly seep back into his body. …
