Chapter 16
Sipping from his flask, Moody stood in the doorway that led to the backyard watching what was going on, giving an approving nod as he did. Remus, Sirius and PJ were working on some defensive spells. From what he could gather, as he hadn't seen them before, they were ones PJ had apparently picked up while abroad. That was fine as they could all use any help they could get when it came to defending themselves. If they were spells not commonly known in the UK, it would help them.
Watching Sirius wield a whip that looked like it was made of some kind of fire and snap the target they were using in two, he slipped his flask back in his pocket then clapped slowly. “Good job, lads. Those can only help us.” Stepping outside, making sure to glance around, though there was no danger, he said, “When PJ gets done with you then I want you teaching me what you learned as well. I'll pass them along to the others as needed. The more off kilter we have the other side, the better off we're going to be.”“We can easily do that,” Remus assured him, lowering his wand. “Something we need to have you check on is if they are legal to use here in the UK. PJ said some of them aren't legal to use on humans where he learned them.”“Easily done. Leave that up to me,” Alastor assured him. “Give me the name of the spells and I'll start looking into it.” Eyes flitting to PJ, he asked, “Any way to show us those spells you used with your Patronus? I heard from Aberforth that they were dead useful.”“I tried, but it won't work. They're tied to my wandcore,” PJ told him with a shake of his head. “The Japanese do something different than you lot do here with wands. It's not something you all can manage.”“We tried every which way, Alastor,” Sirius sighed. “No dice. On the upside, though, PJ was able to give us the class of spells they're in, which means we might be able to find something close we can modify to do something similar. Remus and I will start looking into it.”“Pass it along to me and I will as well. If we find the right one, we can easily modify it to help all of us,” Alastor told him, pleased. Sobering up, he changed tracks then said, “If you lads are done, I need to talk with the three of you. I've got a plan in place for the book signing that I need to go over with you. That way you not only know what you're dealing with, but can change things accordingly when it comes to what PJ wants.”“We were just finishing up,” Sirius assured him. Calling for Edgar, who was out here with Poe mucking about, he grinned when the bird landed on his shoulder. Giving his head a pet, he said, “Time for a snack anyway.”Trailing along as they went inside, PJ petted the happily yammering Poe as well. While he didn't like the idea of having so many around for the signing, he got why and wasn't going to complain. He just hoped that he could make this as unobtrusive as they could manage so he didn't feel like he was being hovered around.
Pushing the floor plan of the store into the center of the table, Alastor said, “We're going to have everyone in the stacks looking like they are browsing, other than Remus and Sirius. Sirius can sit next to you, as no one would think it off, and Remus will stick close by. Most would expect that as well. I've got the volunteers for this and they swear they won't hover unless it looks like a problem. The store is actually pleased as they weren't sure what to do about security. Even they know what this could mean because of your attachment to Sirius, lad, and wanted to make sure you were protected.”
Looking over the plan and where the ex-Auror had everyone stationed, PJ nodded. “This is something I can deal with. Poe is coming with us as the store wants me to bring him because of the back cover. He'll sound an alarm if something goes south. I'm assuming Edgar will come too.” The last part was delivered with a groan as the two birds together were enough to make anyone completely mental. But they would help when it came to keeping an eye out because of their instincts.“The birds are fine. It'll help keep people distracted,” Alastor told him with a dismissive wave. “Those in charge of the store said they'll make sure to keep things moving quickly and keep an eye out for anyone that might look like they're going to cause problems. I'm going to stick close, but stay out of sight if I can manage that.” Sighing, he said, “I get you're probably very enthused by the signing as it's your first one here in the UK, but we need you to stay alert, lad. That's to protect you. Sirius knows who to keep an eye out for and signs, but if you get a bad vibe from anyone, signal him. Not worth taking a chance. Especially since you now have a large target on you after that article in the paper.”“I'll stay on my toes,” PJ nodded, planning to do just that. He wanted this, knowing what it could mean, but sure as hell wasn't going to put himself in danger to do it either. Staying safe and away from those that wanted to use him to get to Sirius was something he planned to do, that's for damned sure.Pleased PJ was going to agree to most everything without issue, Alastor nodded. “Just trust Sirius and listen to him. If you do that, it'll go smoothly.” Seeing him nod, he then pressed on to the next matter he wanted to talk to them about.Looking between Remus and Sirius he said, “That law about the mobiles went through. It was signed this morning. So, we can all legally own and use them. That's good for all of us. Albus is on the continent getting enough for everyone right now. As it'll be a couple of weeks before the shops can get shipments in, he wanted to go about it this way. He said it's going to be expensive as hell, but he wants everyone to have one because of what's going on. So, he's asking that you two help everyone set them up the best they can. From what he told me, he's going to try to get the same ones you three have. That way you can help. Once we do that, and he plans for a meeting tonight to tend to it, we'll all exchange numbers. As most of us haven't worked with them before, it's going to take time to walk us through what we have to do.”“We'll do what we can, Alastor.” Remus assured him. “We've not got everything they can do down, of course, but seem to have the basics mastered. That's all we've really need to use.” This he was pleased with as it would make it easier to get in contact with so many if an incident like Hogsmeade happened again.“Albus is also going to have us all program in the numbers for the DMLE. They'll have their phones today and put the number out to the public for emergencies. He's sure there's going to be glitches with that at first, but Tonks and Kingsley will each have one. We can easily get through to them.” Alastor explained. “We'll work out the glitches as we go along. It's sure as hell better than what we had!”“That's for damned sure,” Sirius admitted, happy with this. “It shouldn't take long. We had it down in about an hour, at least most of it.” This could only help in plenty of ways. So, he didn't have a problem with helping program the blasted things.
Flopping down into a chair he conjured in the room he shared with PJ after the meeting, Sirius accepted a cold beer from one of the elves and took a sip. Sighing and starting to relax, he looked over at PJ. It appeared he wasn't doing much, just sorting through some papers of some kind. That was good. It meant that they could sit and talk for a while. He wanted to just relax as it had taken what seemed like forever to walk everyone through programming the phones. So, he wanted to just sit here and do nothing stressful.
Seeing PJ's brow furrow at whatever he was reading, he asked, “Something wrong? And what are those?”“No, I'm good,” PJ told him distractedly as he skimmed the text there. Putting it down, planning to read it later as he added it to the pile of stuff he wanted to know about, he then leaned back and picked up his own beer. After a sip, he said, “These were letters mum sent to T. The ones she gave me the night she left. It's the first chance I've had to go through them, honestly. There's some bits there I didn't know and I'm curious about some of what's said. I'm sorting them into piles of what might have information I want to read about and what's personal. The personal ones I'm going to send to Switzerland to store. Once I finish the others, I'll do the same with them. I thought it wise not to have them in the house.”“Good idea,” Sirius agreed with a nod, not having thought of that. Summoning the birds treats when both of them landed on the arms of his chair, talking happily, he then tossed them a couple. “Anything in them so far that relates to the current nightmare? Or is it just bits from the past.”“That I don't know,” PJ told him honestly, glancing at the one stack. “I'm just skimming right now to sort them, but a couple mention Snape and the bit with going into hiding. That's what I'm curious about. We'll see when I read them further.” Shaking his head, he admitted, “I don't think I'll get much out of them, but it might give me places to look for some areas when it comes to stories, like some of the Death Eaters that the evil arse broke out of Azkaban. We'll see.” Smiling a bit, he added, “I feel like I’ve gotten to know mum a little from reading some of them. That I never had, other than bits I learned at school or some of what T told me. I like it, obviously.”Smiling at that, Sirius nodded. “That's good. I don't suppose I thought about it that way. I have letters she wrote to me. In the next couple of days I'll dig them out and let you read them.” Stopping, he snorted then grinned before adding, “And some pictures of you as a baby. Including your dad chasing after you on the broom I bought you. It's a riot.”Laughing at that, PJ said, “I would love to see that one! T would love it too.”“I don't have a problem with you making a copy and sending it to her,” Sirius told him honestly. “She can have copies of all I have.” Seeing PJ nod, Sirius' gaze drifted to the American racing broom propped in the corner by his godson's desk. It was called a Lightning Strike, from what PJ told him, and fast. Curious, as they hadn't discussed this yet, “Did you play Quidditch in school after you left? I know you did at Hogwarts and am curious.”“I did, actually,” PJ grinned. “I wasn't a Seeker, though. In tryouts, I did better as a Chaser, so that's what I did. Then, when I started to grow, I switched to Beater. I liked that better, honestly.” Before Sirius could ask, he explained, “We didn't have houses like Hogwarts. They tossed our names into a cup and it divided us into what team we would be on if we qualified. Usually it was like five teams, depending on how many students were enrolled. We just stayed in dorms with all those that were our year. It worked out better as we didn't have the rivalries Hogwarts did. They just awarded the cup for Quidditch each year.”“Sounds like the way to go,” Sirius nodded.“We also had a school team that played against other ones that were close. There were a few of those.” Then he added, smugly, “I didn't have a problem getting on it, either. I was on that team each year I was there. That was a lot of fun because you couldn't prepare for what you were going to face like you could the other teams at school. We had fun doing that, even if we did lose at times.”“I would have loved that! So would your dad,” Sirius grinned. Glancing at the broom, he asked, curious, “How much better are the American ones than the UK version? Or isn't there much difference?”“Speed wise, they are about the same,” PJ told him. “The American version just seems to handle a bit better. It's almost like it's telepathic and can predict what you're going to do. That I like.” Shrugging, he added, “I don't fly much anymore, but I still like having it. When I get a chance, I do, like for short jaunts somewhere when it doesn't matter when I get there. It's still something I like.”“I can completely understand that because I do as well,” Sirius nodded with a grin. “Maybe we'll see about flying together to do something. That should be fun.” Leaning back, feeling far more relaxed, he asked, “Do you have anything big you have to do this week? Aside from the book signing? Like going somewhere to take care of something?”Thinking that over, PJ finally said, “Not that I can think of. I just want to take some extra time to write. I've got most of the research done for the articles I've been working on, so I don't need to do any of that. All I really have to do is put them together, providing something big doesn't come up.”Nodding, Sirius liked that. Thinking it over, he said, “I say we go out a couple of times then, provided that neither of us have anything to do, that is. We would have to go among Muggles, of course, as that would be safer, but we'll have a good time. Even if it's just sitting in one of the bars like we did the other day and watching the telly. I'm sure we can drag Remus and Tonks along one night. That should be a riot.”Smiling, PJ nodded, “I'd like that. We could have some fun. Maybe take in a few of the Muggle sites. I never did get to do that.”“Hey, that could be fun,” Sirius told him with a grin and a chuckle. “You'll just have to lead the way as I don't know what the hell I'm doing when it comes to those bits.”“I'll find some fun stuff,” PJ told him with a nod, grinning himself. This would be a riot, he was sure of it.Finishing up his beer, Sirius vanished the empty bottle then stood with a groan. Stretching, he gave a contented sigh. Walking over, he perched on the arm of PJ's chair then slipped his arm around his shoulders. Leaning in, he gave PJ a kiss. It wasn't a passionate one, but it was a kiss. He loved it, too, despite the guilt he was feeling over who this was. It was just—well, he couldn't help himself. PJ was just what he adored in a partner. That's what he would go with.Leaning into the kiss, PJ slipped an arm around Sirius' waist and held him close. This was great. He was all for taking this slow, considering their relationship, but wanted to move it along faster than it was going.Breaking off the kiss, panting slightly, Sirius then stood up and straddled PJ in the chair. Putting a hand on the back of his head, he pulled him into a more heated kiss than before. Pressing PJ back further into the chair, he held him there then pried his mouth open before slipping his tongue inside. Adoring how good that toned body felt against his, he could feel the first stirrings of an erection. He wasn't going to press for anything like that, but wanted this much at least.Moaning, PJ wrapped both of his arms around Sirius and held onto him, kissing him back with plenty of fervor. This was great! While he wasn't one to be in a position like he was, as he was the more dominant type when it came to anything sexual, he liked it, a lot. Letting his hands slip up the back of Sirius' shirt, he held him close as their tongues danced. The touching—oh hell yes! Sirius adored that. Keeping the hand on the back of PJ's head, he let one hand drop down then slip under the tail of PJ's shirt. Sliding it up under the front of it, he ran it over those nicely toned abs he adored. Feeling the heat from PJ's skin infuse his palm, he moaned into the younger man's mouth. This was fucking great. And he was now rock hard from it. Though he wanted to press on, he knew better. It was time to stop.Breaking off the kiss, he looked at PJ, who was flushed and panting heavily himself. Hand sliding off the back of his head, he ran his fingers through that inky hair then said, voice a tad huskier than normal, “That was good.” It wasn't the most articulate thing in the whole word and a vast understatement, but it's all he could come up with besides something like I want to bend you over and fuck your brains out. That he sure as hell wasn't going to say!“It was,” PJ panted, shivering slightly. There was something so exciting about Sirius taking charge and just doing what he wanted. And he wanted more.Leaning forward and kissing PJ softly once more, Sirius then groaned and shifted to the arm of the chair. Sliding an arm around his shoulders again, he leaned against him. “We'll start spending more time together.” He assured PJ also making a mental note of that. All he kept envisioning was how PJ looked beneath him as they fucked. He wanted that again, that's for damned sure, but he wanted more than that. To get it, he had to keep a leash on what was below the belt.“I want that,” PJ admitted honestly. Though they stayed in the same room, the two of them kept odd schedules because of what they did. Normally, he slept most of the day while Sirius did whatever. Then he spent time with him and Remus downstairs before coming back up and going to work for most of the night. He was hard at it when Sirius came in and went to bed. That didn't leave much time for anything else.“I'll make sure we get it. We just have to be careful, nothing more.” Sirius assured him. Staying there, he began asking about some of the stuff they could do in the Muggle part of London. He wanted more of the snogging, but he needed to keep it under control. He just had to focus, something he could do.
Sitting up on the edge of his bed after waking from a disturbing dream, Sirius pointed his wand at the partition that divided his side of the room from PJ's. As his godson was working when he went to bed, he put it up. This spell wouldn't lower it, as he didn't want to disturb him if he was still writing, but it would make it transparent so he could check on him.
Smiling a little when he saw PJ sprawled out in his bed on his back, obviously asleep, he gazed at him. All he was wearing, as normal, were boxers. Though he adored the view, it wasn't helping his self control any. Part of him—well, more than part, wanted to go over and join PJ. No, not to have sex, but to just lay there and hold him. It would feel wonderful to do that. The flip side was he didn't know how PJ would react to him doing that.PJ wasn't like others he had flings with. He wasn't like those he was normally attracted to, period. While he was damned sexy, his personality wasn't what he normally went for. No, he didn't go for the passive ones, but more like the ones that let him guide and do what he wanted. PJ wasn't like that normally. That was odd, but he liked it.Letting out a heavy sigh, he shook his head then put the partition back to normal. With a groan, he shook his head. He looked up when Edgar and Poe landed on the bedside table, rapping and tapping in unison, though keeping quiet about it. He reached into a bowl he kept there and tossed the two of them some treats. Grinning at them, he stroked their heads. “You two are a riot, you know that? I like having you both around.” The birds were barmy, he would admit that, but he liked them. As far as he was concerned, they were a laugh riot, even though they could get on his nerves.Stretching, he groaned then scratched his stomach before flopping back down. Finding the sweet spot, he let out a sigh and shut his eyes. He wanted more sleep. Thinking about the fun he would have with PJ, of the normal kind, Sirius drifted off.
Sitting there on Sirius' bedside table, the two birds gazed at the partition then back to Sirius a couple of times. After doing that, they looked at each other. Beaks clicking, they began to dance around, rapping and tapping softly so they didn't disturb the two that were now sound asleep. Looking at each other here and there, they talked softly, though in their normal way of single words. Watching them, one would think they were having a conversation of some kind, just not something anyone would understand.
After several minutes of that, the two then rubbed their beaks together. Poe then flapped off to perch in his normal place, on the headboard of PJ's bed. Edgar then hopped over and perched on the headboard of Sirius', right above his head. Crouching down, both birds seemed to settle in for the rest of the night. Though the partition was there, it was made so Poe could get in and out, and the two supposedly couldn't see through it, they kept glancing at each other through the night. It was almost like they were plotting something.
