A/N: So, I'm back! I know it took forever but I've basically had to move three times in the last 6 months and have had no internet at any of those places, only public internet which quite often has filters and won't let me access this site. Good news is I know have internet and shouldn't be moving anywhere in the next few months AND I have several chapters already written (just need to edit) so you won't have to wait as long in between updates! So without further delay, here you go!
Chapter 14: Hurt and HealedScabior slid his hands down to her arse pulling her against him. Lexington gasped causing him to remove his lips from her neck and capture her mouth, swallowing the groan that tore from her throat next. Her hands found his chest and for a split second he was worried she would push against him, like she had so many times before, asking him to stop. His heart leapt when she fisted one hand into his shirt and slid the other up to his neck, pulling him even closer to her. His heart pounded, thrilled at the way she was responding. It seemed like she was finally giving in completely to what he wanted, what he knew she wanted too, even if she wasn't willing to admit it yet.Lexington felt Scabior shift his body against hers subtly, his hands slid to her thighs and she was roughly hoisted into the air. Her hand tightened on his shirt and she wrapped her legs around his waist, eliciting a moan from him.In this new position she could feel his arousal, pressed right against her core sending pulses of pleasure coursing through her, driving her wild. She knew she wouldn't stop him this time, wouldn't be able to or didn't want to, she no longer cared. He started walking slowly towards the bed. His hands never left her body and his lips never left her mouth. He was not taking any chances. He feared even the briefest pause would bring her to her senses. It sure as hell didn't feel like she would want him to stop, but he was not going to risk it.Suddenly his foot came down on something. Something that gave an almighty yowl and sank razor sharp teeth and claws into his leg as it wrapped around his lower limb causing him to trip.Lexington shrieked as they fell and Scabior just managed to throw his arms out in time to prevent his body from crushing hers. He rolled to the side as they landed so her small form, still clinging to the front of his, was on top.“God damned bloody animal!” he growled, seeing a streak of white zoom into the bathroom.Lexington quickly started extracting herself from him, “Scabior! It wasn't his fault. You stepped on him!”He reached out trying to stop her from sitting up, “An' just where do you think you're goin'?”“To see if he's hurt,” she replied matter of factly.“To see if he's hurt?” Scabior said, eyes widening, “He sank his bloody little teeth into my shin and you're worried about him?”Lexington glared at him, “Yes!” she said, pushing herself away from him. “Have you seen your boots? They're monstrous and you are not a small man, you might have broken his tail!”“An' he could 'ave broken our necks!” he said, sitting up to glare back at her. “I only just managed to keep from crushing you!”Her eyes softened, “I know, and thank you for that.” She reached out and placed her palm on his cheek. “But I need to make sure he's alright.”Scabior started to protest again but her hand trailed to his mouth, her fingers gently rested on his lips.“It wasn't his fault and it wasn't your fault, we were just caught up in what we were doing. Let me make sure he's okay, please? We'll have other chances... to...” her voice trailed off as a blush crept up her cheeks. His eyebrow arched, “Other chances to what, luv?”Lexington swallowed. She had almost told him they would have other chances to continue what they were doing and she knew where that led. She stared at him. Had she meant that? Was that really what she wanted? She knew she wouldn't stop him anymore, but did she actually want to have sex with him? Being unable or unwilling to stop him was one thing, but to willingly make the choice to allow that to happen?“Lex?”She blinked and re-focused on his face, “I-I need to make sure he's okay.”She started to stand up but he pulled her back down. “Not until you tell me what you were about to say,” he said, forcing her to meet his eyes. “Other chances to what?”Lexington blushed, “N-nothing.”“Lexi-” he warned, his eyes flashing dangerously.“Merlin, why must you call me that? Don't you know what a mood ruiner it is?”“You don't like being called Lexi, I don't like being lied to. Seems fair,” he paused, regarding her coolly, “An' I think the mood's already ruined in this case. Now, last time, other chances to what?”“You never give up, do you?” she said, sighing.“Not when I know I'll win.”“And you think you'll win in this case?”“Just answer the question, Lex.”“Fine! Since I'm stuck here and you don't seem willing to let me go anytime soon I just assumed we'd have other chances to... to...” she stopped. She just couldn't bring herself to say it to him.“To what?”“You know what,” she said quietly.“But I wanna hear you say it,” he replied, his voice low.Lexington blushed profusely, before she managed to whisper, “To... to end up in bed.”Scabior's throat tightened. He knew what she'd almost said, but he needed to hear it to make sure it wasn't just something she'd been saying in the heat of the moment. That it'd been something she had meant. That she was admitting to wanting it, finally. He smiled, “Yeah, there'll be other chances for that.” She was still perched in his lap, so it was easy to lean forward and kiss her. “Go check on your bloody pet,” he sighed as he leaned back, “I gotta go make sure Ben's gone, anyway.”Lexington frowned at the mention of Ben, but eased herself off his lap and with one last look at him, hurried into the bathroom. She knelt down and peered around the room. The kneazle was no where to be seen.“Gawaine,” she called softly, “Come on out little guy.”A low growl sounded from the corner behind the tub. Lexington edged forward and peeked around the back of the large claw-footed tub. Two glowing eyes stared at her, unblinking, from the far corner.Lexington wiggled her fingers, “Come on, Gawaine, I just want to make sure you're okay. Scabior didn't mean to step on you, he just wasn't watching where he was going.”Gawaine blinked at her.“Which is partly my fault,” she continued as colour returned to her cheeks, “I was sort of distracting him at the time.”She frowned as Gawaine hunkered further into the corner, “Gawaine, please come out.”She could just make out the tip of his tail as it flicked angrily, which caused him to give a small pained meow. Lexington flinched, obviously his tail was hurt.“I'm so sorry, Gawaine. Come out so I can fix it,” she implored.A knock at the door made her sit back on her heels. Scabior poked his head in and looked around for her. Finding her crouched on the floor he opened the door a little further, “Well, how's the fluff ball?”A soft hiss was heard from the corner, followed by a rumbling growl.“I don't know yet, he hasn't come out for me to check. But I think he's hurt and angry,” Lexington said sadly, “This might take a while.”“Ok,” Scabior said, “Well, you'll have a bit of time to convince him to come out. There's somethin' I 'ave to go do. I'll be back in a bit, luv.”Lexington nodded, already focused back on the creature in the corner. She didn't even notice when Scabior closed the door. She sighed, “Alright little buddy, what's it gonna take to convince you to come out?”Gawaine settled down on his chest as if he meant to stay there. Lexington took that as a hint and made herself more comfortable too. Crossing her legs and leaning back against the wall she silently watched the kitten. She was willing to sit here for as long as it took for him to come out. It's not like she had anywhere else to go.The pair sat like that for a long time, shifting every so often to ease stiff limbs. Lexington's stomach growled and she remembered the food Scabior had brought, what felt like hours ago now. She glanced at Gawaine, maybe food would get him to come out. It was worth a shot.Without saying anything she got up and quietly left the bathroom. The main tent was empty. Scabior must still be busy. Crossing to the table she grabbed the plate of food and headed back to the bathroom.Settling on the floor again she put the plate in her lap, tore off a tiny piece of chicken and tossed it into the darkness behind the tub. Within a few seconds she heard chewing noises and smiled, Gawiane certainly loved his food.Taking a few bites herself she chewed as she took another morsel and tossed it to Gawaine. She heard that one vanish just as quickly as the first. The next piece she didn't toss as far. She peered around the corner and saw him slinking slowly forward until he could gulp down the bite of chicken. Putting some vegetables into her mouth she watched Gawaine lick his lips and stare at her expectantly. She swallowed what was in her mouth, “If you want more come on out and get it.”Gawaine's ears flattened and his eyes narrowed.Lexington shook her head, “I'm sorry little guy, I already told you neither of us meant to hurt you.” She took another small piece and placed it just around the corner of the tub, “You'll have to come out to get that piece, and I'd really like it if you came all the way out so I can look at your tail.”He stared at her unblinking for a few seconds, then slowly crawled on his belly out to the piece of chicken near the edge of the darkness. Lexington smiled as he ate it, at least this was getting her somewhere.Finishing her portion she saved a few pieces for him, holding one out in her fingers. She sat like that for several minutes. Just when she was about to give up, Gawaine moved, slowly inching forward. Lexington sighed when he finally reached her fingers and took the food. She picked up another one from her plate and offered it to him. He took that one too, then crawled into her lap to eat the remaining pieces off the plate. She gently scratched behind his ears and was relieved when he emitted a small purr. She waited until he was finished eating before she picked him up, turning him to face her. “Alright little guy, I'm glad you seem to have forgiven me. Now can I look at your tail?”Gawaine let out a sad meow and bobbed his head.Setting him down in her lap she very carefully slipped her hand under his tail. Using her other fingers she ran them down either side, making sure to barely put any pressure on it. Finding a few spots that seemed tender she placed her palm gently on top and felt a little heat coming off the area. She frowned, if there was heat, there must be swelling. She'd have to figure out a way to heal it without a wand. How on earth was she going to do that? She sat there pondering for a few minutes, idly petting Gawaine, when the answer all of a sudden came to her. Thom. He was a healer, surely he could heal Gawaine for her.She scooped up Gawaine and went into the main tent. Once there she stopped. How was she going to get Thom? She couldn't leave the tent and she had no idea if he was close enough to the tent to hear her call for him. Looking around the room her eyes fell on the bookshelf first, then the desk. An idea popped into her mind. She hurriedly placed Gawaine down on the bed, then went back to the desk, grabbed a quill and some parchment, scrawled a quick note and then grabbed a book off the shelf. As she headed to the tent door she folded the message around the outside of the book. Then she took a deep breath and faced the door. Please let this work, she thought. Then she threw the book at the door and watched as it sailed through the flaps.A curse from outside made her jump. Then a voice was raised, “THOM! You're bein' summoned!”It was only a few minutes before Thom entered the tent chuckling, “You've got good aim, hun, even when ya can' see where yer throwin'.”“Did I hit someone?”“Oh, aye,” Thom said, eyes twinkling as she started to look rather contrite, “Ty migh' 'ave a lump on the back o' his 'ead for a few days.”“Shit. Will you tell him I'm sorry? I didn't mean to. I just didn't know any other way of getting a message to you and I didn't know if that would even work. I certainly wasn't expecting to hit anyone!”Thom laughed, “It's a'right, hun. Ty's probably the best one ta 'ave taken the blow. No' much rattles tha' boy. Knowin' him he'll a'ready be laughin' abou' it. Now, wha' is it you wanted to see me about?” he asked, holding up the book with her note attached to it.“Oh!” Lexington had almost forgotten the reason for needing Thom, “It's Gawiane. His tail is hurt and I was wondering if you could heal it? I don't know if it's broken or just bruised but there's some heat and swelling in a few spots.”Thom placed the book on the table and glanced over at Gawaine on the bed, “This wouldn' be related ta the bite marks an' scratches I 'ad ta 'eal on Scabior's leg afore he left, now would it?”Lexington blushed, “Umm, yes, it is. Scabior accidentally stepped on his tail, which Gawaine didn't like very much.”Thom pulled out his wand and made his way over to the bed, he scratched Gawaine as he sat down, then moved his wand along the creatures tail. He looked up at her as he did, “Doesn' seem like Scabior, he usually pays attention ta where he's puttin' his feet. Makes him bloody silent when he walks.”“I've noticed,” Lexington grumbled, as colour rose on her cheeks, “but he was a bit distracted, I guess, at the time.”Thom's eyes crinkled, “Now, wha' would 'ave him tha' distracted?”Lexington felt her face going scarlet, “I, uh, I'm... I'm not sure.”“It's ok, hun,” he chuckled, “Yer good for him.”“What?” she asked, startled.Thom turned his attention back to Gawaine as a soft yellow light filtered out of the end of his wand and down onto his tail. Standing up Thom looked at Lexington, “Yer good for Scabior, whether he knows it yet or not. Yer changin' him. Makin' him care abou' somethin' again. He hasn' 'ad tha' for a long time. I don' think he realizes tha's wha's happenin' yet, bu' I can see it.”Lexington looked at the floor, unsure what to say or even think about this piece of news.“Now, abou' yer pet,” Thom continued, “He's fine now. His tail was bruised, like ya said, no' broken, bu' there were a few tail bones that 'ad become dislocated. I just fit 'em back inta place an' reveresed the swellin'. Should be good as new now.”“Thanks, Thom,” she sighed, moving to pick up Gawaine and cuddle him to her. He started purring and rubbed his cheek along her jaw.Thom turned to leave and was almost at the door when she remembered something, “Thom, you said Scabior had gone somewhere?”Thom paused, turning, “I did.”“Do you know where?” She didn't know why it mattered to her where he was, but she wanted to know.“I do,” Thom said slowly, studying her.“Can you tell me?”“That depends,” he said crossing his arms, “How much did he tell ya abou' wha' happened this afternoon?”“With Ben?” she said. When Thom nodded she continued, “Only that he tried to hand me over and betray you all and couldn't. Oh and that he kicked him off the crew and out of camp.”Thom looked surprised, “So, pretty much everythin'. Tha's interestin'.”“Why?”“'Cause Scabior's usually no' the sharin' type,” Thom said regarding her thoughtfully before he shrugged and continued, “Ben was actin' a bit strange as he was leavin', sayin' all sorts o' things. So, Scabior decided ta trail him for a bit. He doesn' know how long he's gonna be so asked me ta bring ya food an' such 'til he gets back.”“You mean he may be gone for more than a day?” she asked, surprised. When he'd said good bye earlier he'd made it sound like he'd only be gone for a few minutes or hours at the most, this sounded like he might be gone for days.“No' sure, hun,” Thom replied, “I'm sure he just said tha' incase he's gone for longer than he expected.”“I suppose,” she said, trying to make sense of the emotions running around her brain. Shaking away her thoughts she looked up at Thom, “Thanks again for healing Gawaine.”“No problem, hun,” he smiled, “If ya need anythin' else, jus' toss another book ou' the door. Tha' seemed effective.”She gave him a small smile, “Okay.”Thom turned and left the tent, leaving Lexington alone again. She looked around the room. Somehow, knowing she was on her own for an undetermined amount of time made the tent feel emptier than it had before. She cuddled Gawaine closer, “At least I've got you, little man.”Gawaine purred loudly.Lexington walked over to the desk and sat in the arm chair. She pulled her feet up and stared dejectedly at the floor, absently petting Gawaine. Why did she feel like this? It wasn't like he was around often anyway, he was always out working during the day. She'd been on her own more often than not since she'd been here. And what had Thom meant about her being good for him? Making him care about something? She wasn't dumb, she knew Scabior only wanted her because he wanted to have sex with her. And yes, she also found him attractive, she shouldn't, Merlin knew she shouldn't, but she did. But that didn't mean he cared about her. Or that she cared about him. She knew she had to leave, she had to get away from him at some point. She'd just realized she could enjoy the time she did have here while she came up with a plan. So why did his being gone make her stomach feel funny?Frustrated she growled and kicked her foot out at the desk. Her heel hit squarely against one of the drawers, causing something inside to make a loud crashing noise. Shit! She sat up quickly, putting Gawaine on the desk. Knowing her luck she'd probably just spilled an ink bottle or something. She pulled open the drawer and started taking out papers, trying to find what had made the noise. She pulled out the last few maps and stopped. There was something wrong with the bottom of the drawer. She peered closer. It was at a bit of an angle, the one side almost looked like it had fallen off a small ledge. She leaned back and looked at the outside of the drawer. The wood went further down on the outside than it did on the inside. She furrowed her brow for a second, then it dawned on her.“There's a false bottom!” she cried.Gawaine stood up and walked over, peering over the edge of the desk into the drawer.Lexington reached in and tried to pull up the board, but it wouldn't budge. What would Scabior have that he needed to keep hidden? What if it was her wand? Could he have somehow managed to find it? She could escape right now if that was the case, and he might not know she was gone for a few days if he didn't come back right away. She'd be long gone by then, he'd have no hope of finding her. She looked around, “I need something to stick along the side, to pull it up,” she said.Gawaine turned and started pawing aside the papers she'd thrown all over the desk. Finally he found what he'd been looking for and turned to her, a thin metal ruler grasped in his teeth. Lexington had seen Scabior using it when he was measuring distances on a map.“Gawaine! That's perfect!” she exclaimed. She slid the end under the side that had fallen. If she could get it up over the ledge it would be much easier to get out. She struggled for a while, the ruler slipped a few times, but finally she got it set back in it's proper place. Then it was just a matter of getting the ruler in at the front and prying up the board enough for her to get her fingers in under it.“Yes!” she exclaimed as she pulled out the board, carefully placing it on top of the desk. Looking back into the drawer her spirits fell slightly. It wasn't her wand. There was only one object in the bottom. A book. What kind of book would he need to keep out of sight?Reaching in she pulled it out and flipped it over, dusting off the cover. A Beginner's Guide to Wandless Magic. Her mouth fell open. He must have used this to teach himself wandless magic! Which meant that she could too! Her heart pounded. She finally had a way past the wards. If she could learn to do even some wandless magic she was sure she could come up with a way to escape.Lexington was so excited she hugged the book to her. This changed everything! Now she was glad Scabior would possibly be gone for days. She had time to practice. She settled back into the chair and opened the book, ready to absorb every word written on the pages before her.
