Chapter Sixteen
A Little Slice of Happiness
Harry leaned his elbows on the countertop as he flipped through a cookbook. Thanksgiving was in two days and he needed to plan out what he was going to be cooking. Severus had encouraged him to invite some people to dinner, seeing as he had extended an invitation to Casey. Harry had invited Luna and Neville and would have invited Dumbledore, but the man was busy with Ministry business. Harry supposed Draco would be inviting his father.Speaking of Draco, Harry wondered if he was still sleeping. He heard something skittering across the kitchen tiles and turned his head. Tybalt came sliding around the kitchen island. He stopped and shot up on his back legs, tilting his head to the side. Harry chuckled.“Is the cranky dragon still asleep?” Harry asked. The ferret bobbed its head up and down once. Harry shook his head.“Go get him up then, Tyb,” Harry told her.The ferret dropped down to all fours and went scurrying back out of the kitchen. Harry leaned back on the counter, flipping to the next page in the book. He picked up a pencil and started writing down some of the recipes he liked. His plan was to go the store later for whatever food they didn’t have. He was so engrossed in his reading he missed hearing the footfalls of someone approaching.Harry nearly jumped out of his socks when a hard body slid up against his back. He relaxed when a warm arm wrapped around his middle and a kiss pressed to the back of his neck.“You didn’t come to bed last night,” Draco whispered.Harry smiled as Draco nuzzled the back of his neck, occasionally nipping at the skin.“Thought you were still mad at me,” Harry confessed. He let out a small groan when Draco nipped his skin a little harder. The blonde sucked on the skin and gave it a few kitten licks before leaning his head on Harry’s shoulder. He squeezed the smaller body in his arms.“I don’t like that you ran from me. I wasn’t that upset, Harry. I figured out that you charmed it so only me, you, Severus, and my father could see that charm. Clever little lion,” Draco said, tipping his sideways to kiss him on the cheek.Harry grinned and brought his arms down Draco’s arms. He squeezed them in a small hug.“I’m sorry. Just didn’t want you mad at me,” Harry murmured.Draco’s hand slid up to turn Harry’s head so he could press a kiss to the side of the brunette’s mouth.“Never, Harry. Never at you. I like that playful side of yours. Don’t ever hide it,” Draco said, licking at Harry’s lips.Harry turned his head the rest of the way and caught his lover’s mouth. Draco opened his mouth, giving Harry the opportunity to slip his tongue in. They shared a small, deep kiss until Harry pulled away. He turned his head slightly away with Draco’s lips still brushing his skin. His gaze slipped back over to where Harry’s hands were.“Whatcha looking at, lion?” Draco whispered against his cheek.Harry smiled. “Trying to decide what to make for Thanksgiving. We’re going to have a few people joining us.”Draco hummed against his skin as he rested his head on Harry’s shoulder. He nuzzled the brunette’s neck, resulting in a breakout of goosebumps across Harry’s skin. Draco loosened his hold so Harry could go back to looking through the cookbook. Harry smiled when one of Draco’s hands slipped down then back up under his shirt. Harry let out a soft moan when the blonde’s hand stroked across his chest and stomach.“Y-you’re making it very h-h-ard to concentrate,” Harry stuttered.Draco’s chuckle echoed deliciously down his spine.“Maybe that’s the idea, Harry. Maybe I want all your attention on me,” Draco smirked.Harry didn’t have to see it to know it was there. He could feel the damn smirk against his neck. Letting a small smirk grace his own face, Harry produced a thought of how to wipe that cocky smirk off his face. Draco sensed a change in his younger lover and he waited. He knew something was coming.“Shouldn’t we invite your father to Thanksgiving, Dray?”And like that, everything went cold. Draco withdrew his hand and smacked Harry in the shoulder as he stepped back. Harry laughed as he turned around to catch Draco’s annoyed look head on.“Way to kill a mood, Harry,” Draco sneered.Harry grinned. That grin was quickly wiped off his face when Draco suddenly darted forward and Harry was thrown over Draco’s shoulder like a sack of potatoes. He let out an unmanly yelp when a sharp hand slapped his left cheek.“That was for ruining the moment.”Harry tried wiggling out of the blonde’s arms, but it only earned him a sharp slap to the same cheek. With his heavy load secured over his shoulder, Draco started heading out of the kitchen.“You’re not taking me with you like this?!” Harry exclaimed.Draco scoffed. “Of course not. We’re going upstairs to shower first. You stink.”“I already took a shower this morning!”“No can do, lion. Unless Severus or I are there to enjoy it with you, the shower doesn’t count.”“Draco!”/……/
“Master Malfoy? Little Master Malfoy and Master Harry Potter is being here to see you.”
Lucius looked down from his lunch to see one of his house elves staring back at him with its head tilted.“Thank you, Flip. Please direct them here.” Pop.Lucius sat up a little straighter since he suspected his son was already on his way down with his young lover. His son knew his routine and would know he would be at lunch right now. Sure enough, a few minutes later, the two wizards walked into the room. He hid a small smile behind his cup as he took a sip. The little Gryffindor did look cute walking alongside his only child.“Good morning, Father,” Draco greeted.“Good morning, Draconis. Would you and Harry care to join me for lunch?” Lucius asked.Harry, in his awkward Gryffindor way, politely declined.“No, thank you, Sir. We’re actually supposed to be meeting Severus soon out in London. He may get upset if we’re late,” Harry said.Lucius nodded. “Quite right, Harry. Severus is not known for his patience in waiting. Punctuality is key.”Harry cracked a big grin. Lucius turned his attention to his son.“So what brings you over today?” Lucius asked.“Father, we wanted to invite you to Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow evening. We have a few friends joining us and we would love it if you would join us as well,” Draco said.Lucius picked his napkin up from his lap and dabbed at his face. He flashed his possibly future son-in-law a smile before turning his attention to his son.“Well, my presence at dinner will be dependent,” Lucius explained.Draco’s face scrunched up in confusion.“Dependent on what?”The shark-like grin on Lucius’ face should have been a dead giveaway, but luckily his son was blind to it.“On whether or not you’ll be cooking the meal.”Harry couldn’t stop the laugh that erupted out. He turned away while clutching his stomach and trying to smother his chuckles. Draco’s face burned a bright red.“Father?!” Draco exclaimed.Lucius held his arms up in a calm shrug.“I don’t understand your shock, Draconis. I simply would like to know if I need to take any stomach soothing potions before the dinner,” Lucius smirked.Draco dropped his head. He could be heard mumbling “Tippy,” “burn,” and “announce in Prophet.” Harry sobered up real quick. He came to his lover’s defense by sliding an arm around him and smiling sweetly at the man’s father.“I’m going to be cooking, Sir. But Draco’s offered to help me. He’s even suggested a few meals for us to fix. Besides, if you don’t come, you’ll leave Severus and him outnumbered. My friend Neville and his wife will be attending. A Gryffindor and a Ravenclaw.”He knew he had the older wizard when a spark of something flashed in his eyes.“What time will you be serving dinner?” Lucius asked.“Around five. Feel free to come early.”Lucius nodded. “I shall see you at three tomorrow then.”/……/
As the two lovers departed to meet their third, someone was arriving at the Burrow. Arthur was out working in his shed on a muggle camera when he felt the ripple in the wards. He put the camera down on the bench and walked out to greet whoever was arriving. He smiled when his son came into view.
“Percy, son!” Arthur called.Percy’s face broke out in a big grin when he saw his father. He jogged over to his father who caught him in a big, warm hug. They separated with Arthur patting his son on the arm.“It’s good to see you, Percy. What brings you by, son?” Arthur asked, a big grin splitting from ear to ear.Percy smiled. He glanced over his shoulder before turning his smile back to his father.“I’m not here alone, Dad.”Right about that time, a very familiar face came limping around the side of the house. Arthur’s confusion shifted back into joy.“Oliver! How good to see you again,” Arthur greeted as the man limped up to the pair.“Good afternoon, Mr. Weasley. How are you today?” Oliver asked, reaching his hand out to shake hands.Arthur shook his hand heartily. He noticed that his son stepped abnormally close to Oliver; closer than them to be considered friends. Of course, he knew the former Head Boy and former Quidditch Captain had shared a room at Hogwarts in their last few years at Hogwarts. He especially noticed when his son’s shoulders relaxed when Oliver put an arm around them.“I’m wonderful, Oliver. The family is all coming together tomorrow for Thanksgiving dinner. Should we count for one more?” Arthur asked, a small twinkle in his eyes.Percy’s ears tinted a bright red. Oliver chuckled.“Actually, Sir, Percy’s going to be coming over to eat with my family,” Oliver answered.“T-that’s actually s-something we wanted to talk you and Mum about,” Percy added in a quieter voice.Arthur smiled as he turned and led the two into the Burrow. He and Molly had known for a while that Percy preferred males. None of Percy’s siblings even suspected his preferences, since the former Head Boy tended to keep things close to the vest. He left the two sitting at the kitchen table with hot tea while he went in search of his wife.Oliver bit back a curse as Percy painfully squeezed his hand tight. Oliver leaned over to whisper in his ear.“Perce, I can’t feel my hand. Loosen your grip, love,” Oliver whispered.Percy let out a deep sigh, but he did loosen his grip on his lover’s hand. Oliver rewarded him with a sweet kiss to his jaw. Percy smiled weakly back at him. Oliver squeezed his hand, returning a strong confident smile.“It’s okay. You have nothing to be nervous about,” Oliver told him.Percy didn’t agree with him, but he didn’t have time to protest as his parents came into the room. Molly bustled over to them and snagged Percy’s head into a big hug, since she didn’t give him time to stand. After she released him, she smacked him on the arm with a dishtowel. He reared back with a startled look on his face.“It’s about time you brought someone home for us to meet, Percy. I was beginning to think you had given up on finding a boyfriend. I was about ready to hook you up with Gilley Hanton’s son,” Molly scolded.Oliver jabbed his fist into his mouth to keep from outright laughing. His lover’s whole face now matched the top of his head. Molly turned and gave Oliver the same strong hug.“Good to see you again, Oliver. I suppose Percy is here to make things official,” Molly said. After she stepped back, Oliver squeezed Percy’s hand before removing his hand. It revealed a simple yet elegant silver-colored band on Percy’s ring finger. A similar ring was on the same hand and finger on Oliver. Molly’s hands flew up to her mouth and Arthur gasped.“Actually,” Oliver smiled. “I asked Percy to make us official a couple of days ago. I asked him to marry me…and he said yes.”Oliver put his lover in a permanent shade of red when he leaned forward to give him a small peck on the mouth. The two lovers bolted apart when Molly let out a loud shriek. She brought them back together when she hugged them both around the shoulders.“Oh, my baby boy is getting married!” Molly squealed. It was then that Percy seemed to find his voice.“M-M-Mum! I’m not even the youngest! I’m third oldest after Bill and Charlie!” he exclaimed in protest.Arthur chucked as he put his hands on the back of a chair and leaned forward over the table.“Best to let her have her moment, son. You should know by now that you’re all her babies,” Arthur chuckled.Molly kissed both wizards on the side of the head before she started bustling about the kitchen. Despite their protests, she insisted that she fix something up for them to eat. Arthur came over and offered his own congratulations to the couple. He sat at the table discussing his latest project with Oliver while Percy helped his mom with cooking. The floo came alive in the next room and they heard someone land smoothly. That person made their way through the living room to the kitchen.“Mum, did I leave some papers here?” called a familiar voice. Both Oliver and Percy tensed up. A moment later, Ginny appeared in the doorway. Her eyes darted about the kitchen from one wizard to the next. She seemed to be trying to figure out what was going on. Molly turned around smoothly, completely ignorant to the tension in the room.“No, dear, you didn’t leave any papers here. But look who’s come to visit. Your brother Percy and Oliver,” Molly said.Ginny nodded slowly. Her older brother had a nervous look about him while he stood with his hands behind him. Very unusual. Oliver gave her a neutral look, giving nothing away as to his reason for being there.“Yes. They came to share their good news with us,” an equally ignorant Arthur chimed in.Ginny’s eyebrows slowly raised. “Oh? What news is that?”Percy dropped his chin to his chest to avoid looking her in the eye. She bore a smoldering hole into her brother, hoping he would cave in and tell her. Oliver was the one who regained her attention when he spoke.“We’re getting married.”Ginny’s head snapped so fast to the side that it reminded Oliver of those muggle television shows that featured demon-like creatures possessing humans. Oliver knew if it weren’t for Molly and Arthur being present in the room, that Ginny would have exploded all over the kitchen table. As it was, they were present and she plastered on a fake grin.“Congratulations. Welcome to the family, Oliver,” Ginny smiled.Percy peeked his head up and shivered. Right now, his baby sister was giving him the absolute creeps. Molly offered a place for her at the table which she declined.“No, thank you, Mum. I have plans for today. I’m sure I left the papers at home somewhere. Perhaps another time,” Ginny said.Molly frowned. “That’s a shame, dear. Will you be joining us tomorrow afternoon?”Again, Ginny turned her mother down. She made some excuse with agreeing to have Thanksgiving dinner with some of her teammates. Oliver knew that was a bold-faced lie. Her teammates rarely hung out with her, tending to only spend time with her during team practices and off-playing gatherings. Nevertheless, he remained quiet on the matter.Ginny said her farewells and offered another congratulations to the engaged couple before departing via floo. She landed in her flat where she proceeded to throw the biggest tantrum as of late.“THAT BASTARD!” she screeched. She could be let go from her Chaser position soon and by the very man that was engaged to one of her brothers. She couldn’t believe it. Straight as a wand, the Perfect Ponce Percy was not supposed to be dating one of her bosses! This would explain why Oliver never met with her alone for team-related things. It was always Flint or Flint and Oliver. If it had just been him, there would have been a conflict of interest with him dating Percy.“AHHHHHHH!!!!”With the amount of anger and magic being expelled, every window and mirror in the condo shattered. Glass flew everywhere, tearing apart the wood and shredding furniture. Ginny stood in the center with a shield protecting her as her magic spilled over.“Everything is falling apart. After I’m finished with Harry, I’m going to make Oliver so miserable he’ll never want to even hear the Weasley name!” Ginny growled angrily./……/
/Thanksgiving Day/
“What am I doing wrong?”Harry closed the oven and stood up straight. Draco was standing by the sink with a potato in one hand and a peeler in the other. Smiling, Harry strolled over to the blonde wizard. He stood behind the blond and took his hands in his.“Don’t bring the peeler down towards your body. Turn it this way and scrape down towards the sink. Apply a little pressure with a smooth stroke,” Harry instructed.Draco allowed Harry to guide his movements. He smiled when the potato skins sheared off easily, falling down into the sink. He knew when he was done peeling the potatoes that he would need to wash them off. Harry had several dishes cooking or sitting with heating & stasis charms on them. They were serving dinner in a few short hours and Severus was already entertaining his father in the Potions lab. They were discussing some of Severus’ latest work.Draco smiled as Harry kissed him on the cheek and moved away to continue his own work. He also smiled because he knew Casey would be arriving soon with Kasper. She had agreed to arrive early to introduce the canine to the lovers and to meet his father. He could only imagine the look on his father’s face when he met the blonde Squib.Tap tap tap. Draco leaned back from the sink, his gaze falling to the kitchen door. Peeking through the window in the door, Casey waved a friendly hand to him.“Casey’s here,” Draco called over to Harry while gesturing for the blonde to come in.Casey opened the door and came in with a familiar white canine right behind her. Kasper went straight past Draco and over to Harry. The brunette chuckled when he noticed the canine wearing his scarf about his neck.“Hi, Kasper. Good boy,” Harry greeted, bringing his hand down to scratch behind the canine’s ears.Kasper immediately plopped his butt down next to Harry’s leg and leaned heavily against. He lifted his head back with his tongue lagging out. Draco chuckled as Casey nudged his shoulder.“Quite a pair, aren’t they?” Casey asked.Draco nodded.“He’s a handsome canine, Cay. I think that the scarf could use some different coloring, though,” Draco said, pretending to reach for his wand.Kasper turned his head and flashed Draco a side grin full of teeth. Draco instinctively took a step back, partially using Casey as a shield. Casey and Harry both chuckled. Casey half-turned towards Draco and patted him on the stomach.“Sorry, sweetie. That canine is allllll Gryffindor,” Casey teased.Draco rolled his eyes.“I suppose Harry could use the back-up. Severus and I do have him beat on the Slytherin-Gryffindor ratio,” Draco commented.Harry shook his head. He hadn’t told Draco about the Sorting Hat yet. He thought that might be a good conversation for later. He would have to remember to have a camera nearby to snap a photo of the surprised or shocked face Draco was sure to display when he heard the news.“Speaking of Severus, where is he?” Casey asked.“In the lab with Draco’s father,” Harry answered.Casey grinned. “Do I finally get to meet the famous Lucius Malfoy?”Draco grinned before calling Tippy to summon his father and Severus. The two appeared a few minutes later, lively debating over something.“I insist that beetle eyes would make the potion stronger,” Lucius asserted.Severus openly rolled his eyes.“Who is the Potions Master here, Lucius?” Severus shot back.At Draco’s nudging, Casey stepped around the kitchen island and just out of Lucius’ peripheral vision. Severus flashed her a small smile before leaving Lucius’ side to stand beside Harry. He patted the canine on top of the head and pressed a kiss to the side of Harry’s forehead.“Your new friend?” Severus asked, even though he knew.Harry nodded anyway.“Yes. Casey brought him with her,” Harry replied.Across the island from the two brunettes, Lucius shot them a frown.“Who’s Casey?” Lucius asked.“I am.”Lucius turned his head and his smirk suddenly disappeared. He froze when his gaze fell on Casey. She smiled as she stepped closer. Suddenly, his face broke out in a small smile.“To thine own eyes deceive. A child protected by Merlin himself,” Lucius said in a strong, calm voice. The three lovers turned their heads to look at him with strange looks. What the bloody Hell did that tripe mean? Casey, it seemed, understood exactly what the older blonde meant.“By His ways, I am.” Chuckle. “Hi, Uncle Luc.”Their jaws dropped when Casey threw her arms around Lucius and the elder wizard returned the embrace. Kasper sat by Harry’s side watching with an uninterested eye. Draco was the one who found his voice first.“What the bloody Hell are you two going on about?!” he exclaimed.Keeping an arm around the Squib’s shoulders, Lucius turned towards the lovers. He had a big laughing grin on his face; one that matched Casey’s.“Draco, I already know Casey. I admit it’s been a few years and I do apologize for that,” Lucius said, turning his head down to her.Casey shrugged. “It’s okay.”Draco’s left eye started twitching. He also looked like he was about ready to have a meltdown. Or faint. Harry and Severus exchanged a look behind his back as he stormed over to the duo.“How the Hell do you know her?” Draco gasped.Lucius surprised them all with a giant chuckle.“Because, my half-wit son, Casey is your cousin!”And with that, the Malfoy heir lost consciousness. When Draco came to on the living room couch, Lucius explained that Casey was family. It turned out that Abraxas, Lucius’ father, had had a one-time affair with a half-blood. This produced a daughter, Annamarie, who was Lucius’ half-sister. Abraxas died never knowing about the pregnancy. After the end of the first war, Lucius discovered his father’s journals talking about the affair. It had taken some time before he found Annamarie. Her mother had passed in the war, but she had survived. Knowing the Dark Lord wasn’t truly gone, Lucius hid her and her newborn child. He checked in whenever it was safe. He had lost contact sometime around the time Draco had been given the task of killing Dumbledore.“You see, I couldn’t risk it slipping to Him that we had other family. Non-magical family. He would have killed Annamarie and tortured and killed Casey,” Lucius explained.Draco’s gaze shot over to Casey who sat on the armrest of the couch.“Why didn’t you tell me this after we got to know each other? I’ve known you for over a year,” Draco said.Casey shrugged.“I couldn’t tell you. There was a code phrase that my Mum said you or Uncle Luc would use when we were in the clear. You never said it so I couldn’t say anything. Dead Voldemort or not,” Casey stated, plain and simple.Harry grinned. He loved Casey even more. It was no wonder she looked so much like Draco. They were cousins. Well, half-cousins, but still cousins. He chuckled as Draco jumped to his feet and picked Casey up clear off the couch. He spun her around with a chuckle before placing her back on her feet.“I have a cousin! I have family,” Draco cheered happily with Casey laughing.Annoyed with his son, Lucius loudly cleared his throat.“I have family that’s not my bat-shit insane father!”“DRACONIS!”“RUN, CASEY!”/……/
Thanksgiving dinner was a wonderful affair. Harry sat next to Draco and across from Luna and Neville. Casey sat across from her cousin and between Lucius and Luna. Severus sat at the head of the table with Lucius and Draco sitting on either side of him. There was a great feast spread out across the long table, some of the dishes having been brought by their guests.
At nearly full term, Luna was glowing with the beauty that only a pregnant woman could exude. To the great relief of everyone at the table, the weirdest food combo sitting on her dinner plate was ranch dressing and raspberries with her turkey. Casey and Luna got along like childhood friends. Harry was amazed that Casey could understand Luna’s odd behavior in the way that she spoke. Then again, Casey was quite unique, too.The three Slytherins were discussing recent legislatures in the Ministry. There were many laws trying to be passed and Lucius was breaking them down into pieces, explaining what was behind the legalese. Harry found himself easily falling into conversation with Neville. He enjoyed listening to the other Gryffindor talk about his work at Hogwarts, the students, and his latest Herbology projects. From time to time, while listening to his father, Draco would reach out and squeeze Harry’s hand. Harry blushed every time and Neville didn’t look much better.Kasper lay under the table with his head lying across Harry’s feet. It was a nice calming effect for Harry. It felt like the canine was asleep, but Harry could feel his magic aligning with Kasper; the canine was awake and alert. Harry had used a small amount of magic today so he wasn’t too worried about overloading himself today. However, it was still nice to have his newest companion close by.After dinner, Casey helped Draco with putting the food away while the elder Malfoy “supervised”. Severus was deep in conversation with, surprise surprise, Luna. Before Harry stepped outside with Neville and Kasper, he thought he overheard them discussing Luna’s pregnancy. Harry stuffed his hands into his jacket pockets and fell into step beside Neville as they walked around the grounds. Kasper walked calmly between the two wizards.“Thanks for inviting us, Harry. Never thought I’d make it through a dinner that included two Malfoy’s and Snape,” Neville confessed with a small blush.Harry chuckled.“I know what you mean. Draco still likes to bully his way into things, but he’s harmless. Severus is still a very private man but he comes out of that shell the more you’re around him. Lucius…well, I’m still trying to figure him out, to be honest,” Harry said.Neville’s smile made Harry feel so good about inviting him and Luna.“So…Malfoy and Snape, huh?” Neville asked. Now it was Harry’s turn to have his face burning.“Um…yea. Malfoy and Snape,” Harry answered.Neville let out a low whistle through his teeth. He shook his head with a snicker.“Didn’t see that one coming,” Neville commented.“Neither did I,” Harry added.“You…you wanna talk about it?” Neville asked quietly.Harry shook his head. He wasn’t quite ready to tell any more people than was necessary. Neville took well. He told Harry when he was ready then Neville was willing to listen to him.“Thanks, Nev.”“Anytime, Harry.”They walked on in silence across the side of the lawn. Harry showed Neville where his garden was. Neville was impressed with the work he had done. He even made a few suggestions to help Harry with carrying for the flowers in the colder weather. Neville was knelt down on one knee looking at the flowers up close.“Hey, Nev?” Harry asked.“Yea, Harry?” Neville replied without looking up.“Is the Godfather position still open?”Neville’s head snapped up. He stared up at Harry who was smiling back down at him. He scrambled to his feet, making sure not to disturb Harry’s flowers. Neville threw his arms around Harry with a loud shout.“Of course, it is! It’s yours. Oh, this’ll make me and Luna so happy. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Harry.”A wonderful feeling spread throughout his body as he returned the hug. Harry felt like a giant piece of his heart was reconnecting to the assembled pieces. A small tear fell down his face, but he knew it was a happy one.End of Chapter Sixteen
