Sebastien frowned, hearing not only the slight bitterness but something else...something he didn't like. Not at all. "I thought you had let that go, Roark. Schyler and Ethan would never have cleared you to return to active duty had they known you were still holding on to that."
Roark went still, nearly swore, but then he sighed. "I know," came softly, "and I honestly thought that I had. I guess it must still be with me. At least on some level."
"Personally, I think you are being much too hard on yourself. As I am quite sure you were told repeatedly when you returned from Virgon. We all make mistakes, Roark. The trick is to learn from them, not repeat them. You weren't the only one who didn't see what was happening. No one noticed that Mason had let himself be bought by Riddle. Hell, even ROHAN didn't see it."
"Rohan wasn't dating him, Robin. I was."
"Be that as it may, the point is, you realized you had another leak. You investigated, you found out it was Mason, and you did something about it before he could do too much damage." Sebastien leaned closer to the screen. "You will learn from that experience, and you will not make the same mistake twice."
"I hope you're right," he said, then gave them a smile, "You know, if Harry were here, he'd be smacking me upside the head right about now."
"We are, and so he should," Sebastien said in a stern tone. "You listen to me, Roark Christopher Peverell Potter. Stop doubting yourself, or your ability to do the job you have been given. You would not be where you are, nor in the uniform you are in if any of us thought for one moment you couldn't do the job required of it, and of you."
"Yes, Sir, Major, Sir," he said with a mocking salute, a mischievous look in his silver eyes.
A chuckle sounded from the both of them. "Smart ass. Listen, as for my youngest brother...crack that shell he had so tightly wrapped around himself, he'll open up and talk to you. Talk to Fili and Kili. They may be able to help you."
"I agree. And if, for any reason, you feel you cannot handle him...handle THEM, you call us."
"But the assignment you're--"
"Can be given to someone else at this point with no harm done."
"Robin, there IS no one else. Admiral Roark said that Counter-Intelligence is spread far too thin as it is. There's more work than he has warriors to cover it."
"True as that is, we would still find someone," Sebastien told him. "Right now, Logan's mental and emotional health are far more important given your situation there, than our assignment here is. I'm also going to call Ethan as soon as we get done here. See what he says. He fixes the mind while Robin and I fix the body. I'll have him give you a call. Give me your personal contact information, Rory, that way he can contact you without going through channels to get to you, and alerting someone to the fact you're already having trouble."
Roark was giving him his AND Harry's personal contact information when Harry walked back into the office. "We're all set. Severus said he'd begin looking for new places for us right away." he looked at his brother, then frowned. "Okay, what's wrong?" he asked, reaching his side.
"Just some old memories I thought I had let go of," Roark told him.
"Mason," came his growl, reaching out to smack him across the back of the head. "HOW many times must we tell you that was NOT your fault?!"
Laughter as Roark looked at the vid screen. "Told you he'd hit me," he said ruefully.
"Good job, Harry. Were we there, we'd be smacking him too. Listen, we'll call Dad, Uncle Thorin, and the brothers for you too," Robin told them. "Give them a heads up about your situation. Less stress on you to have to figure out a way to guard your tongues."
Roark gave a sigh again. That would be one worry lifted from his shoulders. "Thanks, Robin. OH! Do either of you have any idea who our undercover guys might be?"
They looked at each other, then back at Roark. "Not who they are specifically, no. We only know that they've been in place for just over ten yahren {year}."
"Isn't that a long time for someone to be undercover?"
"It is, but this particular job...It may have taken them this long just to be as established as they are."
A nod. "Do me another favor."
"Of course."
"When you talk to the Admiral, tell him too, though I suspect Raph and Schy already have, that what we expected to happen, did."
They frowned. "The team?"
"We haven't met with the team yet, just Lt. Tristyn Callen, who was Kale's third," Harry told them as he took a seat on the arm of his brother's chair. "Not a very warm welcome, I can tell you. Then there is Ardyn. He's very determined to get us off Aquaria."
"IS he? I wonder why?" came the question with matching frowns.
"So do we and Severus." Roark shook his head, a sudden feeling of sadness running through him. "I don't know why," he began softly, not looking at the screen, "I thought it would be different, or any easier here than it was on Virgon."
"Rory," Harry said as he ran his fingers through his hair, looking worriedly at the vid screen, then at his brother.
"Roark? You okay, kiddo?"
Another sigh. "Not particularly. Same old shit, just a different location, Robin."
They both frowned darkly, neither of them liking his tone one bit. "Roark-"
He looked up. "Not here, Sebastien. He was so desperate though, determined. Raph made it clear we were here to stay. To say he was not pleased would be an understatement. I just can't figure out if it's because I'm seventeen and the dead James and Lily's baby boy, or something else entirely."
"Well, as much as I hate to say this, there isn't much you can do about it at this point, except to wait and watch."
"Oh there's a lot that could be done," Harry growled with bitter anger in his tone for his beloved brother.
"Hadrian James," came instantly, warningly, "blowing them up is not an option, young man," though Sebastien very nearly smirked at Harry's sudden pout. "For now, you are to do nothing. Wait. Watch. Be patient. things may yet work themselves out."
Robin leaned closer to the screen. "You two are to be careful. You are going to be pissing off a lot of people in the near future."
Matching smirks, right along with an excited sparkle in silver and emerald eyes. "Riddle and the Lestrange's being the biggest, and the most dangerous ones."
"Exactly."
"In that case, we can hardly wait to get started," Harry said with a manic grin rubbing his hands together in glee. "Let the mayhem begin."
Laughter. "Of course, you can't. We'll talk to you boys later. Take care of yourselves and each other, you hear me?"
Warm smiles. "We will, Bastien," Roark told him. "I'll also see if I can't get Logan to call you."
"You do that, and tell Fili and Kili they had better call us as well. We would very much like to hear from them."
"We will," they said together as the screen went dark.
