Kindred Passion
CHAPTER 17:
As they assembled at the tower, no one could understand why they had been selected. Just as their curiosity was getting the better of them, Muirinn Shaheen arrived. "Everybody here? Good! Follow me," and she led them up to Seanna's flat where they were met by Seanna, Achak, Miles and Mairead. Seanna began, "Welcome. Please find seats. The eight of you have been chosen to take this short class because you have shown yourselves mature enough to handle the information." She grinned, "But I am not teaching. Like you, I am a student."
Mairead rose, "Thank you Seanna. "Choices" is a misnomer, what we are really talking about is an option that, at some point, each of you might be offered. This program is to help you choose which option is for you"if that day ever comes. Each of you were chosen to attend, either by Professor Dumbledore, Professor McGonagall, or Miss Shaheen." Hermione raised her hand, and, seeing it, Muirinn spoke, "Mairead, allow me to deal with this." Turning to Hermione, she said, "Professor Dumbledore asked that you be included, although I didn't feel it was wise due to your insistence on the accuracy of the MoM. Please don't disappoint him." Miles spoke, "Miss Granger, in the time we have been here, have you seen any of us injure a student"with the exception of a certain Slytherin trio?" "Hermione replied, "No. I will listen with an open mind." Muirinn said, "Good. Because it was your connection with Harry and Ron that made Dumbledore insist."
Mairead smiled, "Now that we have that out of the way, let me explain further. What we are teaching has never been taught outside of the Clans. It is what is referred to as "the embrace', and yes, it does involve a bite, BUT it is not true that everyone who is bitten becomes one." Seanna chuckled, "Or I would definitely qualify." Mairead continued, "Very funny Seanna! Ha! Ha! Ha! You see there are two steps. The first is to drain the chosen one's own blood, and the second is to replace it with our own. That's the reason you don't see a lot of "Death Eater' Vampyres running around Hogwarts."
Miles spoke next, "When someone is at the point of death, they can be asked by one of the Kindred, if they wish to join us. The dying one's choice is either made simpler or more difficult by the actions of their friends and family. For instance, Harry, if you were dying and I offered you the embrace, what would be your answer?" Harry considered the question for quite a while, "I think I would accept the choice." Hermione gasped. "Herm, if I could continue to fight against Voldemort as Kindred, I would, rather than simply give up." Miles nodded, "That is a valid reason for the choice, to save others. Ron, how do you feel about his choice?" Ron looked at Harry, "I've followed him all this time. If that were his choice, I would want to be there to support him as it happens." "Very much the friend," Miles said, "But what if it were, say, Fred? Would you still support the choice being made?" Ron replied, "It would not be an easy thing, to watch my brother dying, but if he chose to join you, I would give him my full support as well."
Ginny spoke up, "After everything you have been saying, my choice would be the embrace. And I would hope my family would support me." Mairead smiled, "Well, brothers, she's thrown down the gauntlet. Would you support her, or make her choice more difficult?" Finally truly understanding, Hermione spoke, "Ginny, I would give you my complete backing." At last Fred spoke for the three boys, "If that would be Ginny's choice, our support is assured, and we would also be there to explain it to Mom and Dad." Achak stated, "You are truly wonderful people, and I'm proud to know that you can so willingly face the unknown, heads high." "That's all there is, if you can think of anything you want to know, feel free to ask any of us. We want you to be confident in your knowledge," Miles said as they prepared to leave.
Three nights later, as Seanna returned from the Astronomy tower, accompanied by Harry, Ron and Hermione, they were confronted by a wildeyed Tariq. As Hermione ran for help, the two boys attempted to keep him from reaching Seanna. Swatting them against a wall, he went to her, "You're mine, and no one has a right to keep me away from you. You need to be taught who's boss," and backhanded her. Standing her ground, Seanna sneered, "Is that how much of a man you are? You have to beat on kids and pregnant women?" This time his fist knocked her to the floor. He was on top of her, hitting and punching. Seanna managed to keep from getting punched in the stomach, until she almost passed out from the blows he was raining on her face. There was a lot of noise just before she blacked out.
Albus Dumbledore stood over her, cold rage written in every line of his aged face. He had two students, and Seanna unconscious, and Tariq was trying to fight off the full body bind. At last, the Vampyres arrived to aid him, horror in every eye. He spoke to them, "Let's get Seanna to the flat, and the boys to"" Mairead butted in, "No, Albus. They were hurt defending her. Seanna would want them close by. I will see to their injuries." He nodded, "Very well. Now, I want this miscreant held tight until we can turn him over to the Clan tomorrow. Three attacks on Clan members, Shaheen and Fianna are going to have a field day. The Elders can deal with him."
As the victims were brought into the flat, Achak looked up in shock, "Tariq?" Mairead said, "Yes!" He replied, "Put the boys in my room. I'll use the sofa"if I sleep at all." Muirinn came barging in. Mairead told her, "You check out the boys, and I'll deal with Seanna until you're done." Sibeal asked, "Achak, want to come with me?" He looked toward Seanna and Muirinn smiled, "I promise, this won't take long, then you can be with her." Examining the boys, she found they had bumps, bruises, and a slight concussion each. Grinning, Muirinn said, "At least he took my threat seriously. Not a fang mark on either one. They're going to hurt like hell for a few days, but everything will heal on its own." She turned as Hermione entered. "Good job, Herm. Now do you want to stay with them while we help Mairead?" Hermione brightened, "Sure, that should be easy, while they're out!" "Ok, Achak. Let's go see Seanna!"
As they walked into Seanna's room, Mairead looked up, "Good. I need some serious help. I've got broken ribs, most of the bones in her face are broke, one broken arm, cuts, bruises, and a doozie of a concussion. I have no idea how she managed to stay conscious as long as she did. We've got to heal at least some of it, so she can rest." Achak spoke quietly, "She stayed alert to protect her child, else he could have done damage there, too."
Achak reached out to Seanna, "I'll help with blood if you two see what you can do about the broken bones." Opening his vein, he very gently held his wrist to Seanna. She quickly latched onto the blood flow, sucking hungrily. As the Vampyre blood rushed through her veins, they could see the cuts and bruising fade away. As Mairead and Muirinn worked the broken ends of bone together, the blood flowed there as well, helping to heal them. Finally Sibeal pulled the Nosferatu away from Seanna, and he collapsed at her feet. "Damned Nosferatu. Mairead, I'll be right back," Muirinn exclaimed.
Leaving the room, she quickly returned with two mugs. Placing them on the nightstand, she knelt to support Achak. Reaching for a mug, she handed it to him. "Ok, Achak, drink it, and don't give me any crap." He smiled weakly, "Sibeal"" She glared at him, "Now! Mister." As he sipped the contents, it began to restore his strength, so he finished it. "Round two," Muirinn said, and handed him the second mug. He looked up, "Thaou Sou Sibeal. I had no intention of giving you any "crap' as you put it." smi smiled and gave him a hug, "Forgive me, Achak. I'm used to getting an argument out of Seanna. Now let's see how she's doing."
They rose to their feet just as she began to moan. Muirinn nudged him, and he took a seat beside Seanna. "Child, it's me. You're safe now. Come on Seanna, talk to me." She groaned, "Achak?" "Yes, child?" "The boys, are they alright?" Mairead spoke up, "The boys are fine, Seanna. They're asleep in Achak's room. How do you feel?" She grimaced, "Like a punching bag that's gone one too many rounds. Mairead, what about my baby?" The healer gently took her hand, "The baby is fine, Seanna. You protected it very well." Seanna closed her eyes with a sigh, "And Tariq?" Muirinn replied, He's to be turned over to Shaheen and Fianna Clan Elders tomorrow. Albus will no longer allow him to stay here." Seanna looked at her, no emotion at all in her gaze, "That's just as well. He's become a danger to the students." Mairead said, "Ok, Lady, I want you to get some rest. Achak will be here for you and the boys. Sibeal, let's go." "Ok, Mairead, but we've got to grab Hermione." Opening the door to Achak's room, she signaled to the young woman to join them. "It's time for you to get back to your dorm. Everybody here will be fine."
Achak was in the sitting room a short while later, when there was a tap on the door, and Karim stuck his head in, "May I join you?" Achak replied, "Of course." As the young Seif al Nu'man seated himself, the Nosferatu could see anxiety written in his eyes. Rising, and entering the storage area, he soon returned with a cup. Handing it to Karim, he returned to his seat. Staring into the cup, Karim asked, "How is she?" Achak answered, "Most of the damage has been repaired." Karim looked up, "That's physical damage, but what about emotional?" Achak remained silent, watching the Seif al Nu'man. Suddenly he offered, "Would you like to sit with her?" Bowing his head, Karim asked, "Will she allow it, after what my Clan Brother did to her?" Letting a small smile cross his face, Achak rose, and opened Seanna's door. "Ask her yourself," Permitting Karim to enter, and then closed the door behind him. Returning to his seat, Achak knew damned well the young Seif al Nu'man would not be leaving that night. He was certain Seanna would accept the comfort offered by Karim. Relaxing against the cushions, the Nosferatu lapsed into sleep.
As he entered her bedroom, Karim could see Seanna asleep under the blanket. He heard the click of the door closing, leaving him alone with the woman he had fallen in love with. He was certain she didn't know of his passion for her. Pulling a chair up to the bed, Karim was content to sit back and watch her sleep, knowing that she was finally safe from Tariq.
Some time during the night, Seanna awoke. The light coming through the window allowed her to see a figure seated by her bed. "Achak?" "No, Fair Lady, it's me." The figure leaned forward to light the lamp. It was Karim. "Achak allowed me to sit with you. I hope you don't mind." He reached out as if to touch her face, but stopped. She took his hand, "Thank you for being here. It must be hard on him, having to be my "Knight in Shining Armor' all the time." Karim smiled, "I don't believe he minds. He cares for you a great deal. You, lovely lady, are enough to tempt any man." Realizing what he had just let slip, Karim attempted to pull away without harming her, but she wouldn't release his hand. "Karim, thank you," she said quietly. "It's a joy to think I could be a temptation to any man, as much like a quaffle as I look."
He suddenly understood. She felt unattractive because of the pregnancy. Leaning forward, he gently kissed her fingertips. "You are a very lovely woman, your being with child makes you especially beautiful." He rose from the chair and seated himself beside her on the bed. "There's something I've been wanting to do since the day we met," he said as he lifter her face. Very tenderly, he kissed her. Her eyes fluttered shut as she felt his lips touch hers. Wanting to know him from his kiss, Seanna decided to follow his lead. Karim convinced her to open to him, allowing him to taste all that she was or could be. Slowly, he pulled back, watching as her eyes opened. They were cloudy with passion.
Smiling at her dazed expression, Karim said, "You are tempting me to forget my manners. I think I'd better go." As he stood, Seanna reached for him, "Please don't go." "Seanna, I can't take advantage of your vulnerability." She said, "I know, but there's something inside of me that really likes and trusts you. Until I have finished dealing with Tariq, I can't allow anything to happen." She met his gaze, "I know I'm asking a great deal of you, but will you please stay and hold me. I promise I'll behave."
Easing back onto the bed, Karim told her, "You're not the one, Seanna, who needs to behave." His eyes twinkled, "Very erotic thoughts flit through my mind when I look at you, but if you really feel you can trust me, I'll stay." Seanna spoke, "I do trust you. With the exception of Tariq, none of the Kindred has ever done me harm. Even Fionn must be forgiven if he was acting for the good of the Clan."
Sitting back, Karim took Seanna in his arms for the first time. As she relaxed, he thought of what had been done to her by his Clan Brother, and vowed to himself that he would never do anything to make her fear him. Gradually he felt her heartbeat and breathing slow. She slept. He thought of how easy it seemed for her to trust. Yet she was implacable to those who betrayed her.
"Karim." He looked up. Achak stood there. "You know, don't you?" The Nosferatu answered, "That you love her? Yes. I've known that since the day you met her." "Does she know?" Achak replied, "I don't think so. Until recently, her heart has been wrapped around Tariq. But if you give her time, I think she'll grow to love you." Karim asked, "Achak, may I tell you something?" "Of course, Karim." "Achak, I promise you that I will never cause her pain such as she has known. If I EVER hurt her in any way, I will surrender myself to your judgment." Achak answered, "Agreed." He grasped the younger Vampyre's shoulder. "Perhaps we can aid each other in dealing with the s ins in our lives." The Seif al Nu'man smiled, "It will certainly be an interesting existence."
