Chapter 17
--
The Slytherin common room was completely devoid of anyone
under the age of sixteen. All the
chairs and couches in the room were arranged around the fireplace. Two armchairs were set directly in front of
it, facing the circle of seating.
The seats were filled with sixth and seventh year
Slytherins. They were all talking
quietly amongst themselves, eyes gleaming excitedly. The two seats in front of them were empty.
It was the first meeting of potential Shadows.
The door to Raithos and Draco’s bedroom opened. Raithos and Draco stepped out, with Blaise
and Pansy following them. The two
leaders looked exquisite, complete opposites.
Like night and day. Raithos was
dressed in tailored black trousers with a black sleeveless t-shirt, showing off
muscular arms. His hair was pulled back
with the customary silver clasp. Draco
wore the same outfit in pure white. The
affect was breathtaking. Pansy and
Blaise were both in jeans, but with the same black shirt Raithos wore.
The Black Mark stood out in sharp relief on each of their
arms.
Raithos and Draco sat down elegantly in the two armchairs, with
Draco at Raithos’ right hand as always.
Blaise and Pansy stood behind them, arms crossed. Raithos looked over those gathered. The room had been dead silent from the
moment their door had opened.
“Good evening,” Raithos said, a smirk on his face.
A chorus of ‘Good evening My Lord’ rang out.
Raithos crossed his legs gracefully before continuing. “
“By now, McGonagall has most assuredly informed the ministry
of my little display of power at breakfast this morning. Since wandless magic isn’t traceable by
them, this is the first indicn thn they’ve had as to what exactly I’ve been up
to.
“They will react one of two ways,” he went on, still the
picture of confidence. “They will
either send a representative to observe what exactly is going on here, or they
will send a team of aurors in a poor attempt to take me down. While either attempt will work well in my
plans, twillwill most likely proceed with the first.”
Eyes widened at this statement.
“None of you are to worry abouis, is, I’ve other plans for
you. It’s time to begin
recruiting. Put out feelers in the
other houses. Use your contacts. Make your choices carefully; I do not want
followers who serve me out of f
“As for the rest of you, you know the Black Mark cannot be
bestowed before your seventeenth birthday.
However, this does not mean I have no use for you. Trust me when I say exemplary service now
will be rewarded when the time comes.
Keep up your studies, learn all you can. My shadows are the elite, the strongest and best of us all.
“That will be all for now,” he finished, rising from his
chair. Draco stood with him and the two
returned to their room. Pansy and
Blaise stayed for a few minutes, answering questions and taking down some
preliminary names before following their leaders into the room.
--
At the same time the Shadows were meeting, an Order meeting
was being held in Dumbledore’s office.
“Expel him! Kill
him! I don’t care what you do, just get
that abomination away from my children!” Molly Weasley shouted above the
din. The Order members were in complete
chaos, all yelling, some at each other, others at no one in particular.
“We don’t have that kind of power, Molly!” McGonagall tried
to reason. “Do you remember the
Hogsmeade event? A dozen students! Wandless!”
“They were a bunch of children Minerva! We are not.” Mad-eye Moody retorted.
“Are we sure he can’t yet be saved?” Arthur Weasley asked
desperately.
Albus Dumbledore sat dejectedly at his desk. He had truly lost control of the
situation. And he had no idea how to
get it back. The weight of the
precarious farce he’d fabricated over the past seventeen years was slowly
crushing him. He’d never felt so old.
Severus Snape was watching him closely. Dumbledore was slowly breaking. He walked up behind Albus and placed a hand
on his shoulder, squeezing comfortingly.
Remus watched all the goings on, completely bewildered. He truly didn’t know what to think. He
hadn’t been present at breakfast that morning, when Raithos had killed Neville
in the Great Hall. The teachers were
talking as if Raithos had enjoyed it, doing it completely in cold blood. Remus just couldn’t picture that. The Raithos he’d spoken with just a few days
before had been a hurt, and betrayed young man. The professors were extremely biased against the boy, he’d known
that. He really needed to talk to
Severus.
“He has ruined my family!
Ron is broken-hearted.
We all know he is responsible for poor Hermione’s death. And Ginny is absolutely distraught. He must pay! "> He will pay, even if I and my family must go after him
ourselves!” Molly shouted.
“The Weasley family is going to declare war on the Son?”
Snape sneered.
“If we must,” Molly said, eyes blazing.
Dumbledore remained silent through it all.
--
Delores Umbridge approached the entrance to Hogwarts School
of Witchcraft and Wizardry eagerly. She
had strict orders to observe the goings on for a few days. She wasn’t supposed to approach the Dark
Prince, as people at the ministry had taken to calling the boy. She was only to discern whether or not an
attack on him would be successful.
She remembered the annoying whelp from two years ago, and
had no intention of following orders.
He would pay for ruining her.
--
“Hem, hem. Headmaster Dumbledore, I was under the impression that this would
be a private meeting,” Umbridge simpered, glaring at Severus Snape.
“Severus is here at my request, Delores,” the Headmaster
replied wearily. Severus had offered to
be present at the meeting, to help keep the annoying woman under control.
Delores Umbridge looked as if she’d swallowed a particularly
nasty potion.
“Very well. Minister
Fudge has sent me here to evaluate our little problem. I wish to have full access to all parts of the
castle, including the common rooms and dormitories.”
“Now Delores, I’m not sure that’s…”
“Excuse me Headmaster, if I may…” Snape interrupted. “I have no objections to Ms. Umbridge’s
request.”
“Very well,” Albus said, sighing heavily. He was truly losing the tenuous control he
had over his school.
‘At least Severus remains completely loyal, I still have
him.’
--
Raithos fell onto the bed as he entered the room, and Draco
wasted no time sprawling out next to him.
“Well that went well,” Raithos stated.
“Sure did. You pull
off that ‘holier than thou-I’m mean as shit-don’t dare mess with me you little
pedant’ thing very well I must say.”
Raithos snickered.
“Just call me the Boy-Who-Traumatizes.”
Draco cracked up. “Boy-Who-Traumatizes…that’s
hilarious. Boy-Who-Traumatizes!”
“It wasn’t that funny.”
Pansy and Blaise walked in to find the two teens rolling
around on the bed, laughing themselves to tears.
“Um…guys?” Blaise asked tentatively.
“Yes? Oh, sorry. Just…something funny that’s all,” Raithos
said, wiping his eyes. Draco was still
giggling uncontrollably.
“So, what do you have for me?” he continued, calming down.
“A few names already…we’ll talk to them in the next few
days,” Pansy began. “We have Larissa
Rey, a seventh year from Ravenclaw.
Pureblood family, Slytherin line.
Then there’s Lisa Turpin, also seventh year from Ravenclaw. A lot of Ravenclaws seem to be good options
here, they don’t have the loyalty problems Hufflepuffs and Gryffindors do.”
“Yes, although we really need at least one person from
Gryffindor house, I’d rather not have to wipe them all out,” Raithos
remarked casually.
“Plus having someone amongst the Gryffindorks will give us loads
of information as to what may be going on with the professors. They all favor them anyway,” Draco said,
laughter finally under control.
Blaise looked thoughtful for a moment. “Raithos…” he began hesitantly. “What exactly are you going to do about this
ministry rep that’s likely to show up?”
Raithos grinned for a moment before answering.
“Let’s just say, they won’t be leaving quite as opposed to
us as they’re sure to come in.”

A/N: Ok, so I know
it’s a tad short, but hey, a lot happened.
So Dumbledore is losing control, and what’s going on there with
Snape? Remus is still confused, and
Umbridge is going to get more than she bargained for. And the Weasleys! Could
they be any stupider!
Next Episode: Another
trip to the Gryffindor common room, Another chat with Sev and Remy, and Letters
from home!
