Author’s Note: I know, I know. I told you that I
was going to rock the boat, besides even I was getting a little green at
how lovey-dovey they were getting. So more tidal waves ahead. Besides
who ever said that love was easy? I mean it makes it so much more worth
while if you have to fight for it, or in my case lose to a fictional
		character. Sigh…Severus Snape.

Hermione knew that she was being overtly quiet and that the rest
		of her house was wondering.

“Say Hermione where did you get that broom, it was really
		cool!” Neville said to her.

Hermione offered a wan smile and shrugged. “My parents gave it
to me as an early birthday present so I couldn’t tell you now seeing
as they’re dead.” Hermione was aware of the sudden halt in
conversations. Tears were burning in her throat and she choked on the
pumpkin juice. She recovered quickly and offered Harry and Ron a small
		smile.

Harry was worried. This just wasn’t like Hermione. First with
the race against Malfoy and then disappearing into her room for a nap
and now being so quiet you would think she was dead. “Hermione, where
did you get that necklace?” Harry couldn’t help but ask as he took
in the glint of gold underneath her robe.

Hermiones’ hand froze, she had been reaching for some bread but
his question had again made everyone turn and look at her. “It was one
of my mother’s.” Hermione answered evasively.

Ron looked at Harry worried. There was no long drawn-out
explanation as to why she was wearing it and where her mom had gotten it
from. The know-it-all was strangely silent and that that in itself was
		worrying.

Hermione felt as if dinner would never end. She made the motions
but even her metabolism seemed to be feeling the strain, as her stomach
was full after just a few bites. Hermione sighed and watched as each
house chatted and laughed amongst each other, everyday cares not
entering into this hall if you didn’t count herself. Hermione sighed
and smiled when Harry and Ron looked at her before continuing their
conversation. Hermione excused herself and headed for her room. Her
		sanctuary.

Severus watched as Hermione left, her fellow dorm mates making no
moves to follow her. The feeling of possessiveness welled up and Severus
quickly squashed it. He had no business getting involved with her again
even if it was strictly platonic. His eyes followed her retreating
figure until it left the hall, he noticed that Remus and Albus both
watched her leave and saw that Remus quickly left the hall too. Severus
sighed silently and tried to finish the rest of his meal before he went
down to the dungeons to prepare for tomorrows’ class.

Hermione shut the door to her room quietly and grabbed a warm
cloak from her closet. She walked up the stairs and saw that the sun was
slowly setting, ready to give up its spot to the moon. Hermione bent
down and picked up Bastet before moving into a corner of the tower that
would give her the best view of the moon. She slowly sat down and leaned
against the stones. Her hands petting the cat as her mind shut down and
Hermione gave way to the tears. Normally Hermione would not have given
in but when Severus had put the collar on her and had no look of regret,
nothing in his eyes to say that he was doing it for her own good
something had died. Maybe it was her childish fantasies, maybe it was
her love for him entirely, but all she knew was that she was hurting and
crying seemed to help a little.

Remus followed quietly, not wanting to let Hermione know that he
was there. He followed her through the portrait and up to her room where
he hid outside her door and waited. He listened and heard her move
around before footsteps echoed on stone. Remus carefully opened the door
and peaked around, thankful that Hermione had forgotten to place wards
on her room and door. He listened carefully and his heart skipped a beat
as he heard the sobs coming from upstairs. He carefully walked up the
stairs and outside to see a curled up Hermione sobbing into her cats’
		fur.

The cat, striped like a
tiger looked miserably at Remus. It didn’t like the smell of him but
it didn’t like having its’ momma upset either. Bastet meowed,
		demanding that he do something.

Remus looked for a second
before bending down and gathering Hermione into his arms. He wasn’t
sure of his welcome but he’d had days like this where he’d wanted to
		cry like this too.

Hermione smelt Remus and
knew that he was there and was trying to make amends. Her arms reached
out and clung to him as he held her. Hermione snuggled against him as he
rocked her. They were two people who were alike and yet so vastly
different. Hermione didn’t know how long she had been crying or how
long she’d been with Remus on the tower before she started to slowly
doze off. She was aware of Remus gently carrying her down the stairs and
placing her on the bed and covering her and then nothing.

Remus shook his head as he
watched Hermione fall into an exhausted sleep. He was thankful that he
had used magic to lighten her load otherwise he would have had to waken
her to get her to bed. He gently covered her and bent down and kissed
her brow. This poor girl had been through so much in the past few days
and he hadn’t been much help to her either. He smiled and promised he
would help her if he could. As he left he couldn’t help but frown.
There was that smell again. He shrugged. Chains would have to be made up
for Hermione and placed in the shrieking shack. His were already there,
the monkshood potion having little effect on him now. He didn’t want
to take the chance of him turning attacttacking some poor innocent
student. Remus shook himself and left the Gryffindor Tower heading
towards his home with Sirius who would be there to comfort him.

Sorry it’s so short but
I couldn’t help feeling that maybe I’d better get another chapter
done before people started throwing things at me.
