The next week was just lovely. Since there were no other students at Hogwarts we could just act normal towards each other. Severus told me that during the staff meeting Professor Dumbledore had told the other teachers about our relationship in a discrete way. This made it all easier since we wouldn’t have to deal with difficult questions from them.
It was a few days before New Years Eve when I received a letter from Harry. Severus raised his eyebrow when Hedwig flew into his private rooms. I took the note from Hedwig, gave her a little snack and thanked her. As the owl took off again Severus said “Good thing that those birds can’t talk or our secret would be out in no time.” I agreed with him. The best thing for now was to keep it quiet. I opened the envelope and started reading loudly.
“Dear Hermione, The Weasleys and I wish you a Merry Christmas. It would have been nice to have you here with us, we miss you. Hope you are ok and that Snape isn’t giving you a hard time. If there should be any problems, don’t hesitate just mail me ok. See you soon, Hugs Harry”
As I finished the letter Severus rolled his eyes. “So, Potter thinks that I am treating you bad.” He grinned. “Well, what can I say Professor, you’ve build up a nice reputation in the years you have been teaching us.” I teased him.

“Is that so Miss Granger?” he walked slowly towards me “Well I guess I have to prove you otherwise then.” Before I could say anything he pinned me with his body against the wall. “Why Professor is that your wand sticking out or are you just happy to see me?” I smirked. “You’ll find that out in a second” he whispered kissing me passionately.
Suddenly our actions were interrupted by a *poof* and a shout. “Severus? Miss Granger?” It was Professor Dumbledore popping up in the fireplace. As he saw us against the wall he let out a little laugh. “Oops, am I interrupting something?” he sounded innocent. “Your timing is perfect as always old man” Severus said with some sarcasm while letting me go.
“Good” the head of the headmaster said “then you won’t mind that I jump in for a little visit.” Before any of us could object he stepped out of the fireplace cleaning his robe.

I took place on the sofa “Can we help you headmaster?”
“Well I was wondering if you two have anything planned for the next days ? “ Dumbledore asked. “Euh, not yet, we are spending New Year here, that’s it.” I looked at Severus who nodded that I was right. “Since you are the only student here Miss Granger, I thought you two would like some time on your own outside Hogwarts” Dumbledore had the twinkle in his eye “but then again, if you want to spend New Years Eve with me and Professor McGonagall, no problem…”
“No euh, we would like to take the offer and go on a little trip” Severus interrupted him.

“Splendid, I’ll inform the kitchen straight away.” The headmaster went to the door. As he was almost there he turned around “Ow and I expect the two of you not back before January 4th, have a nice trip” he smiled and went away.

I was stunned because of what the headmaster said. Severus helped me out of it by sending me back to my room to pack some things.
After I had packed I went back to the dungeons. As I looked out of one of the windows I noticed it was snowing. Severus was already waiting for me. He approached me and took my hand. “Hold on tight” he said and before I knew it we were standing in front of a little cottage.
“Where are we?” I was curious.

“For me it’s home” he smiled and opened the door for me “Get in, it’s better inside.”

He was right. It was nice and warm inside. There we were standing in the hall.

“This is our second house” he started while taking of my cloak “I’ve spent most of my holidays over here. The hall looked gorgeous with all kinds of paintings. There also was a stair and two doors towards the living room.. Severus showed me the whole house. The final room was the entertaining room. It had a Jacuzzi and a sauna. I looked surprised. Severus noticed that because he smiled “I do know some muggle things!”
The next two days we’ve spend most of our time talking to each other for several hours. It was nice, cuddling up in front of the fireplace with a bottle of wine. These were magical moments and I was sure I would never forget them.
Severus realized how much he enjoyed Hermione’s company. In these days he got to know her much better. The fact that she was no longer the silly girl he noticed in their conversations. She sounded mature and made him again clear that she was a clever witch. In al those years he never had been able to show his feelings. In only a few months things had changed and he was pleased by it.
On the 31 of December I woke up alone in our bed. I was surprised because normally I was the one waking up before Severus. I took out his silk black bathrobe and went downstairs. “Severus?” I yelled but nobody answered. In the kitchen I found a tray with food and a little note ‘My angel, sorry that I left you, but I’m on a special mission now. Don’t worry it’s a surprise for you. Have a nice breakfast, Love you, Severus’ I took the tray upstairs.
As I was making myself a croissant I took the note out again. ‘…. Don’t worry it’s a surprise for you…” I took a bite from my croissant and smiled
What could that surprise be?
