A/N: Installment number one of the day... it's 6 a.m. and positively dreary on my side of the globe, and I'm sitting here, handcuffed to my coffee-maker, trying to write a happy Christmas day chapter.... I'm not seeing it happen any time soon.... at least not until the coffee kicked in... ah well, enjoy^^
Aleéna
Something is terribly wrong. I’m positively sure about it. My alcohol-addled mind has yet to figure out what exactly but I believe it has something to do with the fact that I am fighting myself to stay in the chair I am sitting in and not going over to Granger and snogging her senseless. I’m frowning hard enough that I’m sure the lines will never leave my skin, sorting through my thoughts and trying to make sense of what in Merlin’s name is happening.
The two young women are lounging on the huge bed on the opposite side of the room, drinking the last remnants of the bottle that I have found out contained some disgusting concoction trying to be passed off as cheap champagne. They’re talking about things I do not understand, wish not to listen to and have no desire to ever get. If I ever do, I’ll buy a pink dress. And wear it. On a daily basis.
And yet, their conversation fails to inspire the usual amount of annoyance inside me. I know I might have drank too much, but not enough to explain why my eyes keep travelling back to all parts of the both of them I’ve never had a desire to think about before. Though the both of them seem unaffected.
I listen to them speak about Remus, Hogwarts, Harry and other inane things, feeling my eyes being drawn towards their lips. It’s an unnatural feeling deep inside my gut, something my mind tells me I know, I’m familiar with, I have experienced before but it’s as though my mind is clouded too much for me to think straight. More so than the alcohol should’ve done.
I look at the two girls on my bed, gripping the armrests of the chair until my knuckles turn white, and hear the sound of laughter ringing through my ears. A small voice inside my head whispers that that is what an angel should sound like, the melodious tone which I have only ever heard once, the first time I went to Greece. My eyes widen as I realize neither Granger nor Tonks has made a sound in the last few minutes. Fuck, why didn’t I think of that sooner? Aleéna.
I push myself away from the chair fast enough for both the young women to be startled by my sudden move, but my attention is not on them anymore. I stalk over to the chest of premade potions I always take with me when traveling, and pull out two. One blue and one a vile pinkish color, the vials make a small sound as they clash together in my rough hands. I am beyond pissed now.
I vaguely register both the potions mistress and the auror regarding me with their utmost attention, but I pay no mind. I have a conversation to get through. Positioning myself in front of the huge mirror above the dresser, I down the clarity of sight potion. The face of a seemingly young woman greets me in the mirror, where my reflection should be. Great. Just as I thought.
“Aleéna” I say, nodding my head slightly at the woman.
Behind me, both Granger and Tonks have made their way through the room to stand beside me, probably under the impression I have gone insane to be talking to myself in the mirror. I touch their arms with my fingertips, allowing them to see what I see. Their simultaneous gasps tell me Aleéna was not what they expected.
The woman in the mirror nods at me, her flawless face sparkling and her perfect lips drawing themselves up into a beautiful smile.
“I see you have company, young Severus” she says, her smile widening and becoming just a little too psychotic for my taste. Beside me, the pink haired cow snorts at her comment.
“Do not let her appearance misguide you, Nymphadora. She is older than time itself.” That might just be the understatement of the century.
“But what is she?” Granger gasps on the other side of me.
“I detest it when humans talk as though I cannot hear them,” the Queen, for lack of a better title, retorts, her eyes flashing with something the two woman in the room probably missed, but I know to perceive as highly dangerous. I grip both their arms as tightly as the last vial in my hand lets me to warn them. They thankfully know enough to shut up.
“Why are you attacking me, Aleéna?”
She chuckles at us. “I was not attacking you, child. I was merely playing.”
“I know what you call play, Lady, and I have told you before I take it as a direct attack on my person.” And theirs, I think, but I remain quiet.
The smile vanishes from her lips as she regards us with narrowed eyes. I grip the vial in my right hand just a little tighter, almost forgetting I’m gripping Granger’s arm with the same hand. I feel her stiffen but she makes no sound. Knowing I am probably hurting her, I still can’t seem to relax my fingers. Unlike them, I know exactly what kind of danger we are in for Aleéna to have noticed our advance this early. We are not even back in Europe yet.
“You are coming” she states. “But it is different now. You bring her.” She inclines her head at Granger as a pureblood would, as though she’s filth not worthy to look upon. Beside me, both girls draw themselves up to their full height, which, if they would’ve been faced with the Queen in the flesh, would’ve been futile, and even now, looks ridiculous.
“She makes you weak, young one. I warn you today. Do not come to us, or forfeit your life and free will to us.”
I cannot help but laugh at her. It enrages her, but from so vast a distance she is not able to hurt me. Much. The worst thing she could do is compel me to jump into the Nile without my clothes on. Might not be a desirable thing to do, but it’s not the worst thing I have ever done. Nor the most idiotic.
“You have no power over me, Aleéna, and you know it. I come to you not to do you harm, you are aware of that. I have in all these years we have known each other, not once betrayed your trust. But I will take my revenge if you decide to mess with me again. I warn you Aleéna, I will not be kind.”
My eyes are narrow, the tone of my voice dangerous and I can feel the girls arms under my hands tremble. The both of them know what I am capable of, both of them know how much of a sociopath Tom Riddle made me. I let go of them, uncork the vial and with a last nod at the now fuming woman in the mirror, I down the potion made of Aleéna’s hair herself, protecting me from the influence of all of her clan.
