Title: A Godfather's duty

Summary: Lily's dead, Severus is in mourning. He contemplates what to do with the rest of his life when fate takes a hand.

Chapter 16
They didn't find any sign of Harry until they reached the fifth orphanage, Haunte de Gauranne.
It was Ian who scented Harry, not surprisingly, on a pair of Muggles who had clearly stepped out for a smoke break.
It was Jayme who stopped him from lashing out by throwing herself at him and snogging him to distract his wolf.
Kingsley and Emelia must have figured it out because they had stunned both Muggles and tied them up with conjured rope rather then the Incarcerous charm by the time that Jayme removed herself from Ian's person.
Emelia forced open one eye and whispered, "Leglimens."
After a few heartbeats, Emelia stepped away from the stunned Muggle and frowned, "He is here. As well as a few other magical children because this woman," Emelia kicked the unconscious Muggle female, "has memories of dealing with magic but she believes that it is merely a manifestation of psychic abilities. She takes great pleasure in breaking them because they can in essence fight back so she convinced them that to receive essentials like baths, clothing, food and water as well as beds they have to be as obedient as house elves."
To which Kingsley stiffened and Ian growled.
"I have the layout of the orphanage as well as the location of the magical children. I suggest as distasteful as it will be that we hide these persons. Kingsley and I will glamour ourselves to look like them and you two can follow under Notice-Me-Not charms. Kingsley can Apparate or portkey the sleeping children to Number Seven where Andromeda can examine them and they can stay there since Lucius has injected himself into this investigation."
"I think that Ted should be called in as well, he's a mind healer and deals best with this sort of thing." Kingsley muttered.
"Agreed." Jayme nodded, "What about us?"
"Watch our backs?" Emelia asked.
"Done." Jayme said glaring Ian into agreeing.
Emelia conjured a badger patronus and sent it to Andromeda to inform her of incoming patients.
"We've got a list of orphanages we can always check them for magical children if they aren't all here." Jayme offered.
Emelia nodded, "No killing Ian, if death is needed then since we still have permission to use the Imperious. Kingsley and I will imperio the staff into writing confessions and committing suicide. Then we'll remove the children magical and other wise, we have a squib in the Order we can have her move here to take control of the orphanage. I'll have Sancus purchase this place, then we'll raze it to the ground regardless and let it rot.
"We'll have to find homes for all of the children…" Jayme frowned.
"Would your pack have members who might take in children? I don't know if you have any pair of mates that both wolves…" Emelia frowned.
"At least two are…" Ian grumbled. "They were lovers and their families threw them out when they were turned…"
"We'll see how we'll divide out the children after they are treated by the Healers Tonks." Kingsley grumbled.
"I'm sure that Aurora would be insistent on overseeing the project given her position." Emelia shrugged as she cast her glamour.
Kingsley followed suit.
Jayme and Ian conjured baby carriers and comfortable blankets for the older children to be placed on placed with in wards that would lull the children to sleep.

Andromeda was helping Dora settle in when a familiar patronus showed up from Emelia Bones.
"We've found him. Need Healer. Come at once. Bring Ted." The patronus was corporeal enough to drop a scrap of parchment.
Andromeda had left a note for Ted, knowing he would be against her plan but hadn't really left him a method to contact her.
Being a highly skilled witch with a cousin in the order, she had been taught the Patronus charm and had managed to form a raven like her animagus form. Her only reply was a sharp nod.
With a sigh she summoned her elf and sent them with the parchment to get Ted stopping only to tell Dora to keep in the suite.
"Are you going to rescue the baby?" Dora asked, her eyes shining.
Andromeda nodded, "I believe they need to have me look at him before he can go home. Hopefully, he won't need to stay in St. Mungos at all."
"Mother is a good healer, you'll fix Harry up! Give those bad people a kick for me."
Andromeda repressed a snort, her daughter might be mature in some ways but in terms of revenge she was still very much a child. "I'm sure that the Aurors have a better solution."
Andromeda slipped out and found Lucius to tell him about Harry before creating a portkey because the location was water-locked and well apparition over water was impossible due to increased danger of splinching.

Emelia and Kingsley were glamoured of course to look like the Muggles outside they purposely made their way through the orphanage.
Tagging any child that was magical and leaving them for Jayme or Ian to rescue.
Slowly they worked their way through the ground and upper three floors; very few were actually on the floors above ground but they did find nearly two hundred children in total and so far seven children above the age of eight were magical. The other children were placed under a blanket sleep spell and each staff member they encountered were stunned, tied up with the Incarcerous and dragged out by Jayme. She unceremoniously dumped them with their previously captured colleagues.
Once the upper floors were cleared of magical children and the staff, they then looked for the hidden entrance to the cellar nurseries.
Eventually finding it in a closet, there was a padlocked trapdoor that Emelia claimed covered a set of steep stairs.
Kingsley cast an unlocking spell that had the padlock flying into a corner of the closet where it thudded with a strange rattle.
The trap door was opened and a sticking charm affixed to it to keep it open.
Wands lit by lumos they slowly ascended the steep stairs.

What do you think? Outstanding? Exceeds expectations? Acceptable? Poor? Dreadful? Troll?
fortheloveofDrizzt - I made you cry? That scene was pretty cruel wasn't it? If my story wasn't meant to infuriate people through fiction to a problem I wouldn't have written it. While Ted won't agree with their methods of finding Harry, his duty as a mind healer won't let him refuse to help them deal with it, plus there is the benefit of keeping the truth in the family. Lucius I think will be the one of the hardest hit by this due to his voluntary involvement, Harry's mind isn't fully formed yet and while the trauma of his experience will leave scars i don't think he'll be conscious of the way or really remember unlike Severus and Lucius who will the most haunted by it. Severus has done the best he can, he reached out to people who could help just as Remus did. Even if they aren't out in the trenchs right now, it will be Remus and Severus who will have to deal with the aftermath.
