Author's note: Thank you all for the wonderful reviews. I am so glad to hear you enjoy my writing. BAFan asked if Buffy will show up in the story and to answer that I haven't decided completely, yet. I will be adding chapters 17 and 18 today.
Harry looked around the Great Hall with some confusion trying to figure out how the hell he'd gotten there. The last thing he'd remembered was making love to Draco and then falling to sleep while in Los Angeles, so how the hell had he ended up in the Great Hall at Hogwarts. The hall was empty except for Draco and himself. They were both dressed in the clothes they had worn yesterday when they had gone in search of Xander. Was yesterday all a dream or was this now a dream? No, he couldn't have dreamt all that had happened between Draco and himself. That had been too incredible. In his wildest dreams, he didn't think he could have imagined something like that. He was starting to panic at the thought that everything that that had happened in the last week had been a dream and that he’d never been rescued from the Dursleys’, however, before he could get to far with it he felt Draco's arms slip about his waist.
"You did not dream it little one," Draco said as he pulled Harry into his arms to soothe him. He'd been just as confused as Harry when they had suddenly appeared in the Great Hall. He'd been trying to figure it out when he'd felt Harry begin to panic and had even felt his thoughts. He knew he had to soothe him before it got out of hand. Holding Harry in his arms he remembered Wesley stating that thaumaturges were more emotional, more sensitive and that their magic feed off their emotions; that it was the job of the soul-mate to help balance them and to keep their power under control.
Harry tucked his head under Draco's chin feeling quite comfortable wrapped in his arms like that. In fact, he felt better there then he had ever felt in his entire life. He felt as if he had come home. He wrapped his arms about his lover's waist and softly sighed with contentment. He might not know what was going on or how it happened but for now, he felt better about the situation. "Thank you Draco," he said as he snuggled against him not even questioning the fact that Draco had known what he had been thinking. "Any clue as to how we got here or why?"
"None what so ever, however we aren't alone either," Draco said as he suddenly saw Xander and Spike appear in the room as well. One minute they were alone and next the two were standing between the Gryffindor and Slytherin tables. Looking at the faces of the other two it was obvious they were just as confused as they had been when they had arrived.
"Where are we?" Xander said looking around. He had never seen this place before, the last thing he had known he’d been asleep in William’s arms, and this did not look anything like the Hyperion. He didn't like the fact that he'd gone to bed in one place and was suddenly in a whole other place. This just did not bode well. At first, it worried it but that soon turned to anger at the fact that someone had interrupted his time with his lover without so much as a hint of it happening. There had been no warning or any indication before they were moved and that ticked him off, that someone had done that without their permission.
"Bloody hell, this looks like the Great Hall at Hogwarts," William swore as he gazed about. "It's changed a bit since I was here as a lad, but I'd say that's where we are pet." He walked a bit closer to Xander and put his hand on his shoulder. He could feel how upset Xander was at the situation. It wasn't fear so much as anger at having been whisked away with such ease and none of them waking ahead of time. "Don't worry love, we'll figure this one out. There has to be a reason for how this happened let alone who did this."
Harry turned in Draco's arms so that he could look at them while still leaning back against Draco’s chest. "It had to have been Dumbledore. He's the only one I can think of that would have brought us here," he said. He then grew quite as he heard footsteps approaching. He reached for his wand; for the first time noticing he did still have it with him. If it had been Dumbledore, he felt relatively sure he would have made sure they'd all been disarmed. He watched a man about the age of forty come walking through the entrance. He was about Xander's height with reddish brown hair that seemed to fall in the same mess as Harry's did along with a beard and mustache. Harry noticed that his robes looked even more dated than Ron's dress robes from fourth year however what really drew his attention was the sword that was upon the man's hip. He would know that sword anywhere for he'd pulled it out of the sorting hat in second year and it had saved his life. His eyes shot back upwards to the man's face. "Who are you?"
"Hello boys. I hope we didn't frighten you by bringing you here this way. This seemed the easiest way to talk to you all at once. As to your question Harry I think you already know who I am, but let me introduce myself. I am Godric Gryffindor," the man said with a slight bow. "All of this here is just a dream construct. We needed to talk to you, to all of you, and we had to do it without alerting anyone. This seemed the best way however, we had to wait until after you had both bonded. We had started to fear that you two would never find your mates. Fate however managed to step in and give you a hand."
"We? I only see you," Xander stated. He had no idea who Godric Gryffindor was although he could tell from the looks on the others that they recognized the name. "Why did you need to talk to us? I don't even know who you are," he added his confusion turning to frustration quick.’
"Xander he's one of the founders of Hogwarts," Harry explained. "Remember the prophecy that Giles found about the founders? Well that was whom it meant, the founders of Hogwarts. I'm guessing the others who want to talk to us are the other founders, right?" he asked looking at Godric.
"Very good Harry," Godric stated with a smile. "Let me introduce you to my soul and bond mate, Salazar Slytherin," he said even as another man came walking in. This man was about the same height as Godric, however, he had midnight black hair that hung almost to his waist and was clean-shaven. His eyes were the same emerald green as Harry's and sparkled with mischief.
Salazar reached his soul-mate and took his hand in his. He looked at the group before him chuckling at their surprised looks. "I seemed to have shocked them speechless," he said good-naturedly. "Let me hazard a guess in that you have believed the stories of us being bitter rivals that they have been spewing?" He saw Harry, Draco and Spike nod. He shook his head and sighed. "You have our great, great, great grandsons to thank for that. They were named after us. They had a huge fight, almost destroyed the castle with it and each other before they were separated. My namesake left in a huff. They never spoke to each other again and for twins that is such a shame. It was off those two that the rumors started. Of course as time went by the stories were expanded and added to, making it far worse than it ever was."
"One of you is a thaumaturge aren't you? The legends were right about that weren't they? That one of the founders of Hogwarts was a thaumaturge," William stated as he looked at the two of them.
"Yes I am," Godric stated with a slight smile. "However I was not the only founder to be one." Just then, there was another two sets of footsteps and two women came into the room. "This is Rowena Ravenclaw, the other thaumaturge," he said indicating a statuesque woman with long raven black hair. He then indicated the other woman who had reddish blonde hair who only came up to Rowena's shoulder. "And her soul and bond mate Helga Hufflepuff. Harry, you are a direct descendent from Salazar and me while Xander you come from Rowena’s and Helga’s line."
"Godric quit rushing things. We have plenty of time here," Helga said as she looked at the four youths in front of her. "Let us sit down and we shall discuss things yes," She waved her hand and the four large tables disappeared to have several love seats appear in a circle so that they were facing each other with a small table in the center. "That's better; more cozy this way so that we can talk and discuss things. I am sure you will have many questions before the night is over. Now let us sit down and relax. Even though this is just a dream there is no reason we can't enjoy things."
Harry shook his head still trying to come to terms with everything. "Are you ghosts or what?" he asked. He moved over to the one loveseat with Draco snuggling up against him needing the comfort he received by being so close to him.
"A little more than ghost while not alive either," Rowena explained as they all sat down with their respective mate on a loveseat. "We did die Harry a long time ago, no question there. Our spirits though bonded with the castle after we died so that we are stronger than most ghosts are. We are able to do more than a mere ghost would be able to do because the castle gives us energy directly. A mere ghost would not have been able to form this dream world let alone contact you thousands of miles away. This is one thing I do strongly suggest you and Xander do, bond with the castle. It will offer you a form of protection you cannot get in other ways. The castle is a sentient being; most never realize this fact and feel that it is magic alone that causes everything the castle does. It will aid you in the battles you have ahead of you."
"You know about those?" Xander asked. He then rolled his eyes at his own question. "Of course you do. That's why you are here right? You’re here to offer us help or more than likely vague suggestions that we have to riddle out for ourselves. More prophecies or clues that will lead to more clues and then to another clue and so on and now I sound like John Voight in ‘National Treasure’."
"Mate," William said wrapping an arm about Xander and pulling him close hoping to calm him down.
"You know its true William," Xander said with a slight pout. He let William pull him close and he leaned against him.
"Yeah I do. You do sound like John Voight," William said with a grin and watched as Xander shot back up. He grinned at him before leaning in to steal a kiss. He had known Xander needed the joke right then and had given it to him to help ease his mood.
Xander playfully slapped at his arm. "You know what I mean," he told him when the kiss ended. "The ones that can help us never do. They never tell us everything. They want us to figure it out for ourselves. It's supposed to make us better people or some such nonsense."
"Or to protect us," Harry said bitterly. How many times had he heard that from Dumbledore? That he'd just wanted to protect Harry, to keep him safe, or to let him have a normal childhood. He hadn't had a normal childhood and he never would. He'd even heard it from Molly. That he was just a child. The fact that he'd killed a man at age eleven meant he wasn't a child anymore. He doubted he'd ever been a child.
Draco ran his hand up and down Harry's arm even as he leaned in to kiss his temple. "You are not alone any more love and we won't let him get away with things ever again," he told him softly.
"Obviously we cannot tell you everything because we do not know everything," Rowena said to them. "We will tell you what we can and direct you in a way to defeat your foes. Right now, you have two foes to battle, Dumbledore and Voldemort. We believe we can start you on the right path in order to finish them both off, especially that bastard Dumbledore," she said with some venom to her voice.
Helga was holding Rowena's hand in hers as she tried to soothe her temper. She knew how this subject upset her mate. "We do not like Dumbledore for what he has done to our school," she explained. "Of course the ministry and previous headmasters have not helped, but Dumbledore has taken it further downhill than any of them. He has lowered the standards year after year to make himself seem far superior and more intelligent than others. What was once taught in third year is now being taught in sixth and seventh. It is shameful. He has increased the rivalry between houses to where there is bitter hatred between them and even within the houses, the students are not the families they should be. It was never meant to be this way."
Harry nodded knowing full well what she meant. He thought back to when he first arrived at Hogwarts McGonagall had said his house would become his family; what a crock he thought to himself. How often had his own housemates turned against him; let alone the other houses? He remembered how Luna told him about her housemates stealing her things every year and no one ever helped least of all her head of house. He knew he'd gone to McGonagall a few times over the years to no avail. No the houses were not a family as they should be. He looked at Draco and could see a look of understanding in his eyes. He had the feeling his mate had similar experiences in Slytherin house. "All right, you said you can help us. How is that exactly?"
"We can tell you what we do know about Dumbledore and Voldemort," Godric stated. "We can also give you advice on how to defeat them. Sal and myself are top strategist and can aid you in coming up with the plans. Rowena and Helga are tops in wizarding law and traditions so they can aid you with that part. However we can go one step further." He looked at the other founders who nodded before he continued. "We can transfer to you all the magical knowledge we have learned over the years. Spells, potions and charms that have been lost for centuries would be yours. You would still have to practice them of course to gain full mastery, however you would have them which would give you a hell of an advantage over the enemy."
“You can do that?” William asked a bit surprised at that announcement. He wasn’t so much worried about himself in the magic department as he was for Xander since he had no experience in it. Seeing them nod a smirk formed on his face as he thought of how the opposition would fair then. Looking at the others, he could see that they too were lost in thought about how this would give them a leg up over Dumbledore and Voldemort. “Where do you suggest we start?”
“With the goblins,” Rowena told them. “Go to them and have them do an inheritance ritual on each and every one of you. This way Harry and Xander will inherit from us, which will be necessary to gain control over Hogwarts. We turned over Hogwarts to the Board of Governors and the Headmaster with certain conditions which have been broken over the years; the main one being that no Ministry worker could also be a staff member. This also includes any appointed position in the Wizengmont. In addition, the Ministry could not, under any circumstances, interfere with the curriculum being taught. By breaking the contract, you two can take control of the school once more and dismiss not only the Headmaster, but also the board, and run it as you see fit. Now Draco and William, I am sure you are wondering why you must also have the ritual performed. Your family line dates further back then you realize. You see even though the name Malfoy is French your line started here in England. Sadly, for a young child’s protection she was taken out of England and hidden in France where she was adopted and later married into the Malfoy family. She never knew her true family name or the fact that her parents were Merlin and Nimue. You descend from that line.”
“Oh my Gods,” Harry said looking at Draco. He knew from when he’d paid attention in Binn’s class that there had been rumors of Merlin having a child and that many had searched hoping to use the child to force Merlin to do their bidding. No wonder Merlin had spirited the girl away. He looked at Draco. “That’s going to shut a lot of people up when we get back you know that right?”
Draco shook his head surprised by this information. He’d been drilled on the family tree all his life. He knew everyone in it back several hundred years. He’d had no warning that he was related to Merlin himself. He looked over at his ancestor and cocked his head slightly. “Did you have any clue on this?”
“Not a one,” William said. “Well this opens a whole new kettle of fish now don’t it?” he asked rhetorically. Descended from Merlin and Nimue? Well that did explain why they’d had some very powerful wizards and witches in the family he thought to himself.
“That it does,” Rowena stated. “One of you should inherit from Merlin although I cannot say which one it will be. It depends on how he set things up. I have the feeling you will need his library that is in his castle and the only way you can access that is as his heir.”
“Why will we need it?” Xander asked. He gave William’s hand a squeeze for encouragement, understanding that this had to be as bizarre for him as it was for himself. He couldn’t believe how calmly so far they were taking some of this. Maybe the fact that it was a dream helped.
“Because of Voldemort,” Salazar explained. “He has worked some foul magic, dark and evil, that you will have to overcome before you can defeat him.”
“Is he related to you as well?” Harry asked. He was thinking about the Chamber of Secrets and how Voldemort had claimed to be the Heir of Slytherin.
“He’s the descendent of a cousin of mine,” Salazar stated. “It is from one of her journals he found the information for the dark magic he has used to stay alive. You probably know her best as Morgan La Fey. Merlin was able to defeat her. I do not know how since he never told me. He was one though to keep meticulous records and that would be in his library. Voldemort though went further then Morgan ever did. You see Morgan created a spell she called a Horcrux. It was designed that once you had split your soul that you could house a piece of your soul in another object so that even if you died you could be brought back to life again. Morgan made a couple such items; your dark wizard was intent on making seven. We know for sure that he made six however we don’t know if he succeed in making the final one or not.”
“I told you we’d still need to research,” Xander stated. It never failed; no matter what he never seemed to get out of that. "Okay, any other reason for these rituals we need to know about?”
“Of course,” Helga stated. “With so many people killed in the last war and of course in the last century you may have inherited from others. You never know, you may have other titles you aren’t aware of or that we are aware of that could give you benefits we cannot foresee.”
“Now after this I would not suggest taking over Hogwarts immediately,” Godric added in. “Don’t let anyone at the school know that you have come into your powers unless you trust them completely. Let the school year start and find a reason for Xander and William to come to the school to check it out. Traditionally as Lord Black, you would have a seat on the Board of Governors so I’m sure you can come up with something. Check the place out, talk with the students, find our private libraries and quarters, bond with Hogwarts as we suggested, and determine the best way to expose all of Dumbledore’s crimes at once. Get him out of power, especially if he loses it all, and we are fairly sure he will crumble.”
“If I have my way he’ll be in Azkaban,” Harry and Draco said at the same time. They grinned at each other before looking at the ghosts. “He won’t last well there between the loss of power and the loss of having everyone thinking he’s so wonderful. No, he won’t do well there at all,” Harry added thinking of the man surrounded by Dementors. “So that will just leave Voldemort. I’m curious what you suggest we do about him besides finding the information in Merlin’s castle.”
“Propaganda my dear boy,” Salazar stated. “Right now the press and the Ministry have made the man seem like he’s a hundred times worse than he is. Cut him down to size. Release what information you can find on him; the truth I mean. The fact that he’s a half-blood named Tom Riddle and any school records you can find on him. We will help to find the family record of whom he is descended from so that he is no longer my heir. I am sure your friend Severus can give you more information on how he treats his inner circle or even the actual amount of Death Eaters there really are. Give the people accurate information and it will turn him from a monster to a normal wizard. Use the press to your advantage instead of them using you.”
“In the meantime recruit people you can trust and have them work with you. You have to be willing to look at people you may never have looked at before,” Godric told them. “Continue to train and teach others as you did last year. The four of you must learn to work together on spells both offensive and defensive. United you will be able to accomplish far more than we ever could. As the one muggle book states, ‘One for all and all for one’; that is how you must be. You have to be a solid unit, strong and formidable without end. Become that and your enemies will not be able to defeat you. ”
“Does that sound like a cryptic message to anyone else?” Harry asked. He had a very strong feeling that the last bit of that message was far more than Godric was saying. It just sounded too cliché and the man did not come off as the type to give cliché comments. There had to be more too it.
“Oh yeah cryptic 101,” Xander agreed. He looked at the founders hoping that they would explain more however, no comment was made. “In other words we have to figure it out for ourselves. Knew that would happen. I told ya; they always want you to figure it out for yourself.”
“It is nearing morning and we need to get back. Dumbledore is having a meeting of the Order today at the castle. We want to observe it. He hopes to convince them that Snape and young Draco here have plans to turn you over to Voldemort Harry,” Rowena explained. “Be on alert when you come back to England since we cannot say for sure if he will be successful or if we will be able to warn you if he is.”
“Will we see you again?” Harry asked. He hoped they would. He would like to be able to talk to them some more to not only gain more information but to just get to know them. He had the feeling it would be interesting to be able to sit down and to discuss things with this group.
“Perhaps,” Salazar said as he rose. “Who can say what the future will bring for sure? We shall be around as we have been. We usually keep to ourselves at the castle however after Dumbledore is gone we might come out more.”
“Remember when you wake you will have our knowledge of magic. It will take you some time to master it all,” Rowena reminded them as she rose with Helga. “Share the knowledge with others as it was meant to be. It should never have been lost to begin with.”
“Of course we will,” William told her. He could tell this was something that was very important to her. Even if he hadn’t known how important learning was to the house of Ravenclaw he could see how important it was by the expression on her face and the tone of her voice.
“Then for now our task is done,” Rowena said with a smile. “Blessed be our children,” she added before the dream started to fade away and fog rolled in. The ghosts returned to Hogwarts while the wizards returned to the land of slumber their minds to sort out the new information that was pumped into their brains.
~~~~~~~
Dumbledore could care less as Poppy glared at him. He knew the woman was upset with him for demanding to have an Order meeting in the infirmary the morning after he’d had a heart attack. The fact that it wasn’t a heart attack but Fawkes leaving had not become known as of yet and he had no intention of anyone knowing. He’d told her repeatedly that the meeting was necessary both the night before and this morning, not that it seemed to have registered with her. He gave her a reassuring smile and donned his most angelic expression. “Now Poppy, you know I would not do this if it were not absolutely necessary,” he told the woman again. He watched her humph and then storm out of the room. The members he’d had Minerva invite should be arriving any minute; which was everyone except for Lupin, Arthur Weasley, and the Weasley twins. He’d decided to include the Granger girl for now, however he planned to keep a close eye on her. He needed Ron and her input at the meeting to help convince the others of what had transpired at the reading of the will. It was one reason he had also made sure Nymphadora Tonks was invited. During the night, he had used a trusted house-elf to plant the evidence needed to frame Severus; only to then oblivate the house-elf to make sure he couldn’t speak of it. He would even use the supposed heart attack to his advantage stating that it was the shock of the betrayal that had caused it. Yes, he could see them all eating it up; just like threstals with raw meat.
“Ah, Albus this isn’t like you to lie about,” Moody said as he limped into the room. His magical eye scanned the room checking it out as he came over towards the bed. He put his hand on Albus’ shoulder giving it a light squeeze. “You should be resting. It won’t be long before the school term starts again. Not that any of us can really afford to rest. We need to be on our guard at all times of course,” he stated. He lowered his voice to whisper, “However with the dragon lady standing guard I don’t think even you-know-who would risk coming in here.”
Albus chuckled at his comment. “She almost had my hide for having this meeting,” he told Moody as others started to come in and took seats around his bed. “I told her though a dragon’s would be softer than mine would be since it’s so old and dry. Best get a seat Moody so that once everyone is here we can get started. If I make this meeting last any longer than absolutely necessary I think she will keep her threat to skin me alive.”
“Nah, she will just let Snape use you as potion ingredients,” Moody told him as he pulled a chair up near the bed and sat down. He nodded slightly to Shacklebolt and then again to Tonks as she came in. He saw the Weasleys noting that Arthur and the twins were missing and wondered about that. He was used to not seeing Bill or Charlie since they often weren’t there due to working in Egypt and Romania, but the other three usually were there. Percy, of course, had been a lost cause since last year. “Molly is everything all right with Arthur?”
“Oh yes. He just had to work. With this being called at the last minute he couldn’t take the time off, same for the twins,” Molly explained not about to let anyone know what was really going on. She still planned to get Arthur back under her thumb. She was still trying to figure that one out and if possible how to get the twins and Percy back into the fold.
“It appears everyone is here,” Dumbledore stated. He looked at Moody, “Could you ward the room please? Poppy is mad enough at me without me doing any magic at this time.”
“Of course Albus,” Moody stated. He took out his wand and set out silencing charms along with wards to keep anyone out not that he thought anyone would be coming in there at the school. “Where is Lupin?” he asked surprised that he was not there.
“He was not invited to this meeting and I will explain why in a moment,” Dumbledore stated. He reached for his water to take a sip of it as he noticed the others begin to take a keen interest in what he had to say now. He set the glass down and sighed. “Over the last few days two major events have happened that have me convinced that one of two things have happened I am just not sure which. A few days ago, I was called to the Ministry because someone was attempting to get Harry Potter emancipated. When I arrived at the hearing it was just ending. Harry was not present, only a lawyer was there presenting the case before the Wizengmont panel. I attempted to stop it since I would have been alerted if Harry had left his home. Since he hadn’t and I could not fathom how he would have known to contact a lawyer I have to assume it was someone trying to gain access to him. The members of the panel did not listen and they did emancipate him. Now I admit I should have gone immediately to Harry to discuss this with him. I was foolish not to, however I wanted to look into the lawyer to find out who hired him first. In addition, as most of you know yesterday was the reading of Sirius’ will. When I had spoken to Harry earlier in the summer about it he had been adamant about not going to it. In fact, he was very upset with me as well and did not want to talk with me since he seemed to blame me for Sirius’ death. It is the other reason I held off talking with him until I had any facts.” He sighed and shook his head making sure he had his hurt grandfatherly face on as he continued. “Things then went from bad to worse. When I went to the reading of the will Harry was there. He purposefully tried to discredit me with the goblins by stating I had never talked with him about the will. I had never thought I would see him behave in such a way. He was sitting with Draco Malfoy and Severus Snape. In fact, he seemed to be getting quite close to Malfoy, which has me concerned, especially when he tossed aside his friendship with Ron and Hermione here for Malfoy. When I rechecked both the trace and the wards on the house at Privet drive both stated Harry was still there, but when I physically checked he wasn’t. I found a spell with Severus magical signature there to give a false reading. I contacted Lupin hoping he would give me information about what might be going on with Harry since I heard Harry state he would be staying at Grimmauld place that night. I will not repeat what the man said to me since there are women present, but suffice it to say that Lupin is no longer with us.”
“I cannot believe Harry would change that way,” Minerva stated. “Something must have happened Albus; something we do not know about. For him to toss away a friendship of five years does not make any sense. The three of them have been closer than any friends I have ever seen since the Marauders, which is saying something. Do you have any idea what might have caused it or even why? Let alone why Severus would have planted the false reading?”
“Isn’t it obvious? He’s a bloody Death Eater! He always has been,” Ron growled. “He’s just finally showing his true colors and now he’s got Harry under some sort of spell. The greasy git is probably going to turn him over to you-know-who as soon as he can; him and Malfoy both.”
Dumbledore gave a huge sigh and put on a sad, defeated face. “I hate to admit it, I really do, but I have to agree. I think Severus has been playing both sides; thus played me for a fool. I so wanted to believe in the good in everyone that I could not see that he had not changed. My foolishness may have cost us far more than we can ever realize.”
“Of course you want to believe. It is not your fault Albus,” Molly stated as she reached over to pat his hand gently. “It is Snape’s fault and don’t you forget it. He is the one who has done everything, not you.”
“Thank you Molly, you are as sweet as ever,” Dumbledore stated. “Still we cannot condemn the man without proof.” He turned to look at Moody and Shacklebolt. “Moody, Shacklebolt, would you go down to Severus quarters and search them please? The password is Spinner’s End.”
“Of course,” Shacklebolt stated even as Moody nodded. Both men stood up and headed out of the infirmary neither of them speaking as they thought about the situation at hand.
“Do you think it is possible that Remus has also been spelled by him?” Minerva asked. “He has always been on the side of light and I would never thought of him turning against you Albus, not after all you have done for him through the years.”
“I suppose it is possible,” Dumbledore stated with a slight nod. “Severus could have gotten to them both in some way or another. The man knows far too much about the dark arts for my comfort. Between him and Malfoy, I doubt that Harry or Remus would have stood a chance. Harry would have no reason to doubt Severus if he showed up at his house and would do whatever Severus wanted. The same could be said for Remus.”
“You are right they would,” Hermione said softly. She was being very careful in what she said since she didn’t want to encourage or discourage what Dumbledore was saying about Harry. She hated what she was doing. She knew better than to think that Harry was under any sort of spell. She knew damn well that the Headmaster was lying through his teeth, but she wouldn’t call him on it. She couldn’t do that; at least not here, where he had the advantage. She’d finished her OWL's. She had wanted to finish all seven years, but that would not be possible now. She knew she could no longer be Dumbledore’s spy, which meant she would no longer be kept on at Hogwarts. She would have to get to Harry, somehow, and let him know everything. She could only hope he could forgive her. She would then see about finding away to get a job and a place to live away from the Weasleys and Dumbledore.
Dumbledore was about to ask her what she had thought of Harry’s behavior the day before when Moody and Shacklebolt came back into the room. “Did you find anything?” He asked of them.
“Aye that we did,” Shacklebolt said as he set several bottles filled with a liquid with a mother of pearl sheen down on the table. “He had a box full of bottles of Amortentia, Albus.”
“He also has several samples of hair, I can’t say for sure, but judging from the color I would say it could be Harry’s and Lupin’s,” Moody stated. A person’s hair could be used in many potions he knew, although without knowing which potion there was no way to counter it.
“Amortentia,” Minerva gasped, “the world’s strongest love potion. If Severus used that on Harry and Remus no wonder they are acting so strange.” She could hardly believe that Severus would do such a thing. She had known the man for so long and she had thought they could trust him, still she could not doubt the evidence before her. The mother of pearl sheen was a dead giveaway for the potion.
“No wonder he was choosing the ferret over us,” Ron stated with disgust. “He had no choice if he’s being fed that stuff. We have to get him free Headmaster. I know it won’t be easy and even once we do he’s probably not going to accept the fact that he’s not in love with Malfoy but we have to help him.” He really didn’t know what was going on but he did know how to play along with what was being presented to him. He wasn’t as dumb as everyone thought he was. He just played the part that Dumbledore told him to.
“We will get him free and Remus as well,” Dumbledore stated. “You are right, it won’t be easy to break the spell they are under especially if Severus used their hair in any additional potions or spells such as binding spells.” He heard several of them gasp. “Don’t worry about that now. We will take it one-step at a time. The first thing we need to do is get Harry and Remus away from them. Tonks are you still on speaking terms with Remus?”
Tonks had been quiet during the meeting, but now she looked the headmaster and nodded. “Yes I am. I spoke to him yesterday after the reading. He asked me to stop by sometime this week or next,” she stated.
“Then I need you to stick close to him. I will give you a portkey to use,” Dumbledore told her. “When he and Harry are separate from Severus and Malfoy grab them both and activate it. It will bring you to a secure location where they can’t get out of it. If though, you cannot get a hold of them, but you know they will be alone someplace send me a message and we will arrange to have them picked up, do you understand?”
“Yes, I can do that,” Tonks said with a slight nod of her head. “I’m sure I can convince Remus to let me stay at Grimmauld place with him and Harry at least until school starts. It shouldn’t take much to convince him for the added security if nothing else.”
“Good,” Dumbledore stated. “I can have the portkey made up easily enough and the secure location we can have finalized by the end of the day. Thank you Tonks,” he told her. “Shacklebolt, Moody if you two could help Minerva and I set up an area here in the castle to hold the two of them I would appreciate it.” He saw the two men nod and he smiled at them. “Good, good which means we are just about done. Oh, Minerva perhaps you should make the portkey since Poppy doesn’t want me to do magic. If you don’t mind that is?”
“Of course I don’t, Albus. Direct it to the guest quarters?” Minerva asked and after he nodded, she stood up. “Come with me Tonks we’ll find something that will be inconspicuous for you to have on you. Knowing Albus it would have been something that would have stuck out like a hippogriff.” The two women left along with the rest of the order except for Shacklebolt and Moody.
Albus made sure they were alone and then he looked at the two men. “Not to think poorly of Tonks, but I do not want to put all of our eggs into one basket,” he told them. The fact was he wasn’t sure how much he could trust the auror since she did seem to have feelings for Remus. “We need to have a backup plan just in case.”
“I was thinking on that,” Moody stated. “Potter is going to have to get his school supplies sooner or later isn’t he? Diagon alley is the most likely place to have him vulnerable. I admit it is not ideal, however, the only other option I can think of is waiting until he gets back here to school which means dealing with him with all the other students.”
“That would have to be last case scenario,” Shacklebolt stated. “Either Diagon alley or the train would be easier to take hold of him, although that still leaves Remus to contend with.”
“Our first priority has to be Harry,” Albus stated. “Remus may have to be lost to us for now. All right, we get the room secure so that Harry cannot get out of it. Then we take turns watching Diagon alley for him. If we don’t catch him there, we get him on the train going to the school. That is, of course, if Tonks doesn’t come through.”
“I believe we have all our hoops covered,” Shacklebolt stated. “Now we just have to wait for the quaffel to come near so we can catch it. For now Albus rest we’ll take care of everything else. We best get out of here before Poppy comes in. I for one do not want to tangle with her. I swear she could scare even you-know-who,” he added with a laugh. He turned to head out planning to find Minerva to see which room they were securing.
“I shall stop by later Albus with some lemon drops for you,” Moody said and totally missed how Albus didn’t seem at all excited at hearing he would be getting some of his favorite candy. He too turned to leave hoping to miss the infamous dragon lady of the infirmary.
“Soon Harry I will have you back where I want you,” Dumbledore muttered. “The prophecies will not come true and I will remain in power.” He lay back in the bed and pretended to rest as Poppy came out to look at him. He wasn’t about to let her dose him with any more potions. He swore that Severus made them taste bad on purpose.
