Chapter 17
Beta'd by the amazing Tenchi, who I couldn't work without anymore. Thanks, Tenchi!
Just a reminder of what's on my profile; reviews complaining or whinging about the lack 'o sex in stories will get deleted. If you want a smut-filled romp, you need to find another story to read.
Turning pages with gloves on was a right pain as Harry learned quickly. In fact, it had him growling as he tried to work with it. However, as old as the books were that he was going through, he wasn't going to chance touching them without the gloves right now. No, he didn't get anything 'bad' off of them like he did that goblet, but until he was sure he could detect what set that 'gift' off, he wasn't going to take any chances. So, he was learning to work with it.
Sitting at the kitchen table on the bench with Sirius and Lucius, he was helping them go through the books on runes looking for something to partially activate the bond on Lucius' end in hopes that could help with some of the side-effects of it. While doing that, he was getting several chuckles listening to Sirius grouse about having to do research. He thought, as he listened, that part came more because it was expected of his godfather and to give some comic relief while doing something fairly boring than anything else. Sirius actually seemed to know what he was doing and was good at it, so it was a show.Tossing aside the book he had been going through, Harry picked up the next one then began to riffle through the table of contents to find the section he needed. Flipping back to the page listed, he began to read. As he did, he began to flush slightly. This one had some very overt sexual elements to it. Quickly reading through what was there, flushing more as he did, he finally stammered out, “I think I have one here. At least it's fitting the criteria for what you want.”Setting aside the book he had been going through that had no useful information, Lucius held his hand out for the one Harry was looking at, amused by the look on the young man's face. “Let's see,” he said, trying not to give an amused chuckle.Passing Lucius the book, Harry shook his head then took a sip of his butterbeer. “There are some strange things in these books.”“No shite,” Sirius chuckled as he finished reading then tossed the book aside. “Some of the rituals here are decidedly bizarre. I don't know runes at all, but they don't sound like they would work to me.”“One has to be cautious of what one does with some of this,” Lucius said, tone distracted as he read through what Harry had found. “Like so much in magic, just because it's purported to work, doesn't mean it will. I think that's the case with some of the more off the wall ones in these books.”“Is there even a chance this is going to work?” Harry asked, looking between the two.“I don't know,” Sirius said honestly with a shake of his head. “It might help, some anyway.” Stopping, he glanced at Lucius then said, “Or Lucius may end up getting the bad end of the stick and just get hammered with what we are. It's iffy at best here.”Nodding as he read through the ritual, Lucius shut the book and put it aside as something he would look at more as it sounded like the one thing they found so far that might actually work. “I agree, it's chancy. However, it may be worth the risk. It might help both of you to alleviate some of the worst that's happening.” Looking at the book he had just set aside, he added, “That ritual sounds like the best so far. It may be something worth trying.”Stammering, flushing more as he knew what had to be done for it, Harry squeaked. “Yeah, not sure about that one there, Lucius. That's—sexual.”“Well, yes,” Lucius admitted with a nod. “Sexual energy is powerful and adds a boost to whatever you may do. I think that sounds like the main driving force to help push the activation with the runes. Let me look at it more closely to see what I can determine.”“Sexual in what way?” Sirius asked, looking between the two.“A form of ritual masturbation,” Lucius told him, sipping at his glass of wine. Smirking, he added, “On my end. I'm the one that needs to activate the connection more fully, so it would come from me. The principal behind the theory is sound, at least from what I read. You both already said that the bond happened after the sexual consummation of the relationship. This will work similar, though not carry the same strength, at least in theory.”“Makes sense, at least to me,” Sirius said with a nod. Looking at the flushed Harry, he reached out and ruffled his hair. “Nothing to worry about,” he soothed. “We'll keep looking and see what else we can find. There might be something better we haven't run across yet. Even if we don't, you get the power of veto over whatever we find.”Still flushed, Harry nodded then grabbed another book and began to pour through it.
Sitting at the table after supper, everyone was playing cards and talking. As Draco didn't know the game, Remus was sitting out a few hands to help him get the hang of it. Mostly, it was something enjoyable, just to help pass the time as they weren't talking about anything that was pressing. It was more just having fun and joking around slightly.
Just as Sirius was shuffling the cards to deal another hand, one of the elves popped in with a message for Lucius and some vials of potions. Assuming that was the new pain killing draughts for Harry, he didn't think anything of it and took the missive. Reading through it, his brow furrowed and he shook his head. Looking up then glancing around he said, “Severus says that there is a full meeting here tomorrow night, that Dumbledore got with him about it today.” Looking at Harry, who was rubbing his eyes, a sour expression on his face, he said, “He's sent over some vials of Dreamless Sleep. From what he says, he has to have the shields in place because of Albus. And there is no way to get the old man to drop his without telling him why. It's his thought that if you take the Dreamless Sleep before the meeting starts, even if there is pain, you won't know it.” Looking at the instructions with the vials, he then imparted, “They are in doses for two hours. He says for me to stay up there with you and keep giving you doses in the last fifteen minutes before it wears off until the meeting is over.” Sighing, he shook his head, “I think we all forgot this might happen.”“We did,” Sirius told him sourly. “Both of us better have some good pain killers on hand for this mess.” Looking at Harry then around, he said, “The Dreamless Sleep is a good idea though. I wouldn't have thought about that.”“It is,” Remus nodded. “Because we have nothing that blocks it. Everything we've put on your room to even dim it isn't working.” Sighing, he said, “Dreamless Sleep can be very addictive, we all know that, but we're going to have to go with it here. I just don't know how this is going to affect you, Sirius. Even with Harry taking it, I’m not sure you'll not get pain. I'm also not sure how it might affect Harry. If the pain killing draught shut down something he's using, this might do the same. Even if he's out, it might affect both of you along with him.” Glancing at Lucius, he said, “With him staying with Harry, it might not be a big concern. It's you I'm worried about, Sirius.”“And I didn't think of that either,” Sirius said with a shake of his head, rubbing his eyes. “I suppose I can pass it off as something else if it gets bad, but I don't know how to back out of this without giving up the fact that something might be strange.”“We'll take it as it comes and work from there.” Remus told him. Looking at Harry, he shook his head then said, “We're going to have to come up with something to explain Harry, though. Every time Albus has come over, he's vanished or isn't around.”“Molly and them have seen him so that shouldn't be a problem. We'll just work from there and say he wanted to stay out of the way because of the meeting. Hopefully, they don't bring their brood over. Then we'll have issues.” Sirius said.“If it's a meeting, I bet they won't,” Remus told him, shaking his head. “They know they want to listen in to what is said.”“Let's hope,” Sirius sighed. Looking at Harry, he shook his head. “Let's just wait and see here then go from there. It's the best we can do. We'll make sure to knock him senseless before anyone thinks to come over and Lucius can ensure he stays that way.”Looking between the two, Remus said, softly, “I would also pay real close attention to anything odd you get from Harry, if anything, while he's out. It might be telling as to something you have to work with or give us hints about other things. I know that you do dream while taking the stuff, it just knocks you almost completely comatose so you don't remember anything to give you some distance from whatever is bothering you. If whatever Harry has in place to help him goes down, you might pick up something very odd you will have to work with later.”“We will,” Lucius nodded. “If I have to, I can get Narcissa's help with something if it goes strange.”Shaking his head, Sirius said, “At least we have something here.” Putting a hand on Harry's shoulder, he said, looking at him, grinning, “You'll get some good rest at least! And if you do get pain, you won't have to deal with it.”“It's better than nothing, that's for sure,” Harry chuckled, shaking his head.Going back to shuffling the cards, Sirius said, “Let's not worry about it and have some fun. We'll work with it tomorrow.” Seeing nods, he began to deal once more.
Flopped on the bed, Sirius was reading through the runes ritual Harry had found. Snickering, scratching his bare stomach absently as he did, he asked, “Do you think it'll work or not?”
“From what I read there, it should. How well? That's up for question. We won't know until it completes. If it doesn't, there should be no lasting effects of any kind as the runes used are very specific when it comes to how they are geared.” Lucius explained, crossing his legs and leaning back in his chair.Shutting the book and tossing it onto the bedside table, Sirius leaned back against the pillows then inquired, “You didn't find anything else that might work?”“There were two others, but I'm dubious as to whether they will be effective or not. Not to mention the runes combination they use is something quite tricky that can cause all manner of problems, even if done right. They are something I wouldn't want to chance, frankly.” Lucius told him bluntly. “One wrong move or even a slight miscalculation or off drawing of what is needed and it can have side effects. That I don't want to chance as I have no idea what they might be. With this ritual, I can calculate what might come. It's also something that the runes combination is very easy, only needed to draw on the energy that is there from what I've done.”Looking at the closed bathroom door where Harry was taking care of what he always did before bed, Sirius asked, keeping his voice down, though not sure Harry wouldn't pick up on any of it, “Any idea how you can work with it? I'm not sure how well Harry will handle some of it.”“That I think I have a plan for,” Lucius said with a nod. “It should make it easier on Harry and his embarrassment over the topic. My thought was this—we would have to be naked in bed together, of course, that's mandatory and there is no way around it. If the room is dark, something we can ensure, and he cuts the connection with you for the time I take care of things on my end, I can talk to him through the connection to achieve what is needed and the proper motivation, shall we say. That may help and minimize his anxiety over it. Or cut the connection at first and then open it up. Somehow, I don't think there is much we'll talk about that either of us will find shocking as his lack of experience is going to come in here.”Scratching his chin, looking down at the bed, Sirius nodded, “That might work. It'll help him, that's for sure. Hell, it might help all of us. He's having problems, like so many do when they’re younger, with embarrassment over what's going on. It might give me more of a feel as to what he likes and doesn't.” Shrugging, he said, “He tends to let me do what I want and follows. I'd rather have a clue, besides reactions, as to what he likes.”“It may,” Lucius conceded. “There is also the fact that he can chuck up imagery rather than actually 'saying' something. That might assist.”“It could,” Sirius agreed, shifting around. “How long will it take you to get it all figured out to where you can do it right?”“Give me a couple days to ensure I can do the runic equation needed almost automatically. That's my concern. As it has to be done right after the height of the orgasm, I need to make certain it's something I can do without thinking too much as one's thought process is rather muddled in that state,” Lucius told him, smirking slightly.“I didn't think about that end of it,” Sirius laughed. “Yeah, you need to have it down pat. How fast will we see some effects of it, do you know?”“I would think fairly quickly, though I'm not for certain there,” Lucius told him, shaking his head. “Even a little from both your ends should help somewhat. It would be worthwhile if it helps dim whatever is there on Harry's part, even slightly. I don't think it's going to be a massive help or even cut it in half, but it should bring some kind of relief.”“Some is good. Any little bit is going to help here,” Sirius admitted, looking at the man. Honestly, he wanted to ask just what the bloody hell was going on with their end of things and to get the answers both he and Harry needed with this, but he didn't. He thought, maybe, if anyone could get what they needed and tell how much of the truth it was it would be Harry, not him. So, he was going to let his godson deal with that part of the equation there. “I'll get with Harry alone tomorrow at some point and talk it over with him. He might handle it better if it's coming from me. Then we'll go from there with it and see what we can work with.”“Tell him he's more than welcome to get alone with me and I'll explain anything he wants to know from my end or give him reassurances he may need,” Lucius said honestly. “It may help if he talks to me and I can assure him whatever he is going to come across with won't shock me. I assume he knows something like that, but it may assist to actually hear it.” Sighing, Lucius shook his head then imparted, “It's been many a year since I've dealt with someone with his lack of experience so I'm not sure if I remember just what might help here.”“Yeah, it's been trial and error on my end as well. I just had the benefit of the trust beforehand is all,” Sirius admitted. “The problem comes from the fact that no one, anywhere, talked to him about sex, at all. The Dursleys sure weren't going to. Hell, they didn't even go over the most basics he actually needed, like shaving. They sure as hell weren't this. Hogwarts doesn't cover those topics. Molly and Arthur, I don't think, even considered it. I sure as hell didn't, assuming he knew. What he did know came from discussions in the dorm. With what I know of those he shares that with, I doubt it was much. So, there was no real base to work with there.”“More things I didn't consider,” Lucius told him honestly. “Talking with Draco when it came to such topics was easier as one would expect because of various factors. Harry—I'm not sure how to work with it there because I don't want to embarrass him by giving him a book or something similar.”“Let me talk to him a little then I'll send him your way if I can manage something. It might help. At least he'll know that no one is going to laugh at him over his inexperience,” Sirius told him.“Yes, give him that reassurance,” Lucius said firmly. “I won't and will give my word on that topic.”“Give me a couple days to see what I can do here,” Sirius said, sitting up more as he heard the bathroom door open. Changing topics, he said, “About this meeting tomorrow—we need to come up with some plan in case something goes pear-shaped on your end or you need help. And I have no clue what to do there. The connection between the two of us is iffy at best at times. Elves—that's out. Albus is going to get real suspicious if one comes to get me. So we need something in place or hope I can get a clue something is wrong then make an excuse.”
Unable to sleep, Narcissa was walking through the downstairs of the house around midnight. She had gone to the kitchen to sit and have a cup of warm milk, hoping that would help. It did make her sleepy, but not enough she didn't think. As her mind was wandering over what all was going on, it was making it tough to calm herself enough for her to relax.
Wandering through the various rooms, just looking around, she wasn't sure what to do. Of course, the locket was on her mind, but everywhere she was going they had checked more than once so she knew it wasn't there. Sighing, hands clasped in front of her, she just looked around. Trekking through the rooms, she wandered around until she was in what was the formal dining room. Stopping, she looked at the table and smiled, thinking that, maybe, on Sunday's, if she could talk everyone into it, they would start eating the evening meal in here. She knew that Sirius and the others weren't used to such things, but it might be a nice change of pace for all of them. The kitchen could be so dreary at times and this room had big windows and a good view. That might persuade them.Walking around, hand on the table as she did, she thought about, maybe, changing the room a little to brighten it up, when she was startled by a noise. Looking up, she could see Kreacher standing there, scrutinizing her. “Hello, Kreacher,” she said softly, wondering if she could get some information out of him.“Miss Cissy is a blood traitor. Turned away from the right side,” the elf told her with a shake of his head.“No, I'm not,” she told him softly, walking in his direction.“You are here with the rest of the blood traitors, letting them help you,” Kreacher said, looking up at her.Crouching down, she shook her head then said, softly, “It's not as it seems.” Not sure what to do here, she said, quietly, “You know who I loved, Kreacher.”Looking at the woman, the elf nodded once, saying nothing.“I need your help. The locket he left to his son. I need that to give to his son. He's fifteen and it's time he had it,” she said gently.“Who is Master Regulus' son? He never told Kreacher.” The elf said, eyes boring into her.“Draco,” she told him with a smile.“No, Mr. Draco is a Malfoy and a blood traitor. He is not Master Regulus' son!” Kreacher said insistently, shaking his head.Wiping a hand over her forehead, she persisted, “He is Regulus' son. Lucius adopted him. We aren't blood traitors.”“Kreacher will not help you find the locket!” He told her, backing away.“Is it still in the house?” She asked, hopeful she could learn that.“I will not tell you where it is,” Kreacher insisted, keeping an eye on her while backing away. “Master Regulus needed that to go to his true son and help fulfill the Black Family Prophecy.”Eyes widening, Narcissa asked, “What prophecy?”“Kreacher will know when it's time to help. Until then, blood traitors will not be helped by Kreacher.” With that, the elf popped out.Standing, Narcissa wracked her brains to see if she could remember having heard anything about a prophecy related to the Blacks. Coming up with nothing, she headed towards the stairs, planning to get with Sirius to see if he knew anything.
Lifting his head, rubbing his eyes when he heard the pounding on their door, Harry then huffed and dropped his head back on the pillow, saying, “It''s just Narcissa,” when he heard Sirius and Lucius wonder aloud what was going on. “Something's got her in a dither.”
Looking at his godson, Sirius reached out and rubbed Harry's head then bailed out of bed. Making sure to slip on a robe and belt it tightly, he went to the door and opened it, rubbing his eyes. “What's up, Narcissa? Is something wrong?”Stepping in, she looked at her cousin, then to the bed before saying, “I just talked to Kreacher.”Sitting up further, looking at his wife, Lucius asked, “Did you learn anything helpful?”“I did,” she imparted with a firm nod. “The locket is in the house, he wouldn't say where though.” Glancing at Sirius, she asked, “Have you ever heard anything about a Black Family Prophecy?”Rubbing his eyes, trying to focus and be coherent, Sirius' brow furrowed then he shook his head, “No, not that I can remember. Why?”“He mentioned that. Something about Regulus' son and the prophecy. Draco is his only son.” Looking between the three, she said, “I don't know what he meant by that. I tried to convince him Draco is Regulus' son, but he wouldn't believe me.”“Convincing him of anything isn't going to be easy, Cissy. Especially with you lot being here. That puts you on his bad side for sure,” Sirius said. Shaking his head, he asked, “Prophecy? You have me lost there.”Looking around at the three, Narcissa said, “I've never heard of it either. Which means he knows something that might relate to this. What that might be I don't know since I doubt any of us can get it out of him.”Sighing, rubbing his eyes, Lucius nodded. “Agreed. Which means we need to get it out of him. The how when it comes to that is beyond me.” Looking around, he said, “Tomorrow we'll see what we can figure out or if you two can come up with somewhere to look to see if you can dig up anything on that prophecy. Then we'll go from there.”Pleased with that, Narcissa smiled at the three of them. “I can work with that. Sorry to disturb, but I thought it was important. I'll let you get back to sleep.”Giving her a pat on the shoulder, Sirius held the door open for her and said, “It's fine. Definitely interesting! Maybe when I'm more awake my brain will be working better and I might remember something.”Bidding them good night, Narcissa left. After shutting the door and shaking his head, Sirius climbed back into bed with a groan and groused, “Not another prophecy. One is bad enough.” Punching his pillow to get it into shape, he flopped over and draped an arm over Harry then shut his eyes with a sigh.
