~~~ VOYAGING ~~~
In the late afternoon they set off in the Sirius towards Guernsey and another safe anchorage for the night. As before Harry and Astoria prepared the meal and Ginevra and Draco did the washing up.
Although the original idea had been to take in the night life on that island they felt very domestic and lolled about on the after-deck chatting in the balmy air. Probably as a result of their inebriation earlier in the day.
“Hermione was saying that she and Ron were going to try an experiment with some Catlin’s Island’s earth.”
“Hmm … I’d heard that they were not producing another child, despite their best endeavours.”
“I’d have thought that the green magic would have facilitated that automatically.”
“It doesn’t seem to have. If that doesn’t work they’ll go to the island again. Hermione was saying that the two of them ought to give the magical world two descendants; so as to keep the balance going … or something like that.”
“Sounds just like her … Oh … By that measuring stick we should have another one.”
“It’s up to you and Ginny, Harry. You know why I can never have any more.”
“Um … I’m not sure?”
“Hermione has a point; remember what Minerva said about keeping the magical gene going.”
Harry scowled at Draco, whilst Ginevra looked thoughtful. Harry squirmed uncomfortably thinking about the idea.
Ginevra came out of her funk: “I think we should, Harry. It’s nice to be away from the babies, but I’m missing them too. The Weasley family seems to be more fecund than some of the others and we both still show that fertility-green in our auras, it’s more intense than with Hermione and Ron, too.”
F: *Get on with it my children. *
They looked round; there was a slightly glowing seagull perched on one of the hatch-coamings.
H: *Do we need anything special? *
The sea-bird shook with laughter: *No! You both have all the necessary implements, even if you do usually exercise them in a different way. *
A: *I think Harry was referring to the Catlin Island green magic, Fawkes. *
F: *As my other daughter says, you have enough of it in reserve to procreate successfully without extra recourse to any aids. If you mate soon; then you will have the birthdays all within the same fortnight, as you originally planned. *
Ginevra looked at Harry: “Well husband, are you going to carry out your matrimonial duties?”
“Um … What now?”
“Seems like a good time … It’s my right time of month too.”
Astoria looked at Draco with a wicked smirk on her face: “I reckon all four of us could fit in the forepeak cabin. You behind Harry and me behind Ginny; I’m sure we could get them worked up enough.”
Draco’s signature smirk spread across his face, and he pointed his finger at Harry: “Exuero te!”
Harry gasped as his clothes disappeared and placed his hands strategically.
“Come off it, Harry. We’ve seen each other in the nude so many times, why so prudish now?” Astoria grabbed Harry’s hands and pulled.
There was a struggle but, with Draco’s help, the two Slyths revealed Harry’s floppiness. Draco started to rub the inside of Harry’s thighs and project naughty thoughts whilst Ginevra started to take off her clothes.
“Um … Please … Um … Can we go below … There may be people with binoculars watching us.”
Ginevra grinned wickedly: “I’m feeling quite exhibitionist today, husband;” as she removed her bra and her firm tits flopped into view: “I think you are too, by the look of your erection.”
“Commutaro Trapete intra Culcitum!” Astoria pointed at the floor covering and it swelled into springy mattress; Harry jumped up from the seat in surprise.
Ginevra removed her panties, came close to Harry and, reaching round him, grabbed his buttocks. As Harry gasped, his upright instrument breached his wife’s hungry orifice. Both their auras brightened into the Catlin green and started whirling around them. Soon both participants were too far gone to recognise their very public fornication performance. They humped and gyrated, gasping as their reciprocations brought them to the boil. There was no green bubble this time but, aided by their usual partner’s licentious sendings, they managed a triple ejaculatory experience before the green magic faded. After a full hour of fornicating en-pleine-aire and in plain sight of all the surrounding boats the two participants collapsed onto the transfigured mattress, snoring.
As they transported their slumbering mates into the cabin Astoria asked: “Do you think Hermione’s and Ron’s experiment has worked?”
Draco smirked: “We’ll have to ask them when we get back, won’t we? I think I’d better do some experiments to see if I can make a green elixir, it’d be better than messing around with handfuls of earth.”
~~~ MORNING ~~~
The quartet woke up late, eating breakfast inside before venturing out into the sunlight.
Draco was first up the companionway. He returned quickly and laughing. In his hands were three plastic carrier bags. The first one he gave to Harry: “Go on read it?”
Harry blushed deep scarlet: “Um … It says … Thanks for getting our juices flowing.” He reached inside the bag and withdrew another bottle of champagne.
Draco gave the next one to Ginevra.
“Oh no! I can’t.”
Astoria snatched the card: “It was better than in the Equus play, much more realistic, thank you.”
Ginevra retrieved a big box of chocolates from her bag.
The last plastic bag was very light; Draco produced an envelope from it. He opened it: “Buy the resulting baby something comfortable to wear. Oh what it is to be young and in love again. You really brought romance alive for us.” He waved a fifty pound note in the air.
As they hoisted sail and started to move out of the harbour nearly all the boats sounded their klaxons.
~~~ VOYAGE ~~~
The wind was in the wrong quarter; not even the ‘Navigamus Celera’ charm would work against the wind; nor did it help if the motor was being used. Thus it took them nearly two days’ sailing to reach the McLaggens’ Island. Not that they were in any great hurry, going on a long tack further west than the Scillies and then turning; exploring a few island passages before nearing the jetty.
As they approached they saw quite a number of Dumbledorians on the Quay.
“Ahoy, the Sirius!”
“Hello Berwyn!”
“How are your stores?”
“Almost as much as you put on board. Did you think we were going on a world cruise?”
“Good, you’ve got six more for your crew.”
“Six is too many … anyway, why’s that?”
“We’re going north.”
“What?”
“Siobhan and Rory have problems … Lucy’s taken over Teinamoray … They need seagoing craft up there; so we provisioned Regulus. We need a seer on board that sloop and another on our boat. You’re the only ones strong enough to work ‘Navigamus Celera’ and we need to be there ASAP.”
D: *Why should we go and help them? * His sending was decidedly grumpy: *They tortured me, you know. *
A: *So that evened things out, didn’t it? *
D: *Hmm … I s’pose so. *
H: *We can’t hold things against those who work for the light, Draco. *
G: *Good thing we practiced our new charm just recently. *
D: *I’m pants at steering. Shall I stay with Harry?*
A: *I’ll go with the McLaggens, they steer okay. Ginny can take over Regulus – she’s as good as you are Harry. *
H: *Fine! * “Tor’s coming with you, Draco will stay with me. Ginny’s on the Regulus. That Okay?”
“Aye-aye Commodore,” various people gave mock salutes.
The company chuckled as the two boats drew alongside and swapped crew members.
“What course?”
“West!”
“That’ll get us out of the Scillies – I know – and then north?”
“Best if we go out further into the Atlantic. Too many muggle ships in the Irish Channel; I presume you don’t want them grandstanding our race? Besides Seamus and Dean are going to meet us off the Arrans.”
“Fine … West it is … ’S a good thing the wind’s gone towards the south. We’ll be able to make a fast reach and then run north. I suppose Draco will have to go onto the Finnegan sloop.”
H: *Come stand with me Lover; I intend to give you a crash course in steering. So you don’t let our side down. *
D: *I can’t get my head around all these nautical terms. *
A: *It will truly be a crash course if you don’t. *
D: *Shut up, Tor, you’re almost as bad. *
A: *At least I can steer a straight course without luffing every five minutes. *
H: *Stop pulling our dear Drake’s leg … this is serious … Draco, imagine the boat is on a curve … think of the tiller as part of that curve … that’s it … not too far … okay now try to move the bow over a bit to the left … that’s port … both have four letters … … …* Harry’s patient instruction formed the background of their joint consciousness for the next few hours.
Because they were using ‘Navigamus Celera’ there was no stirring in the breeze on board. It was almost as if they were becalmed. However, if one looked at the sails and the waves there was obvious rapid progress. It was a good thing it was going dusk, otherwise whenever they sighted a muggle vessel the charm would have to be withdrawn. As yet Justin had not been able to invent a suitable glamour to hide the unnaturalness of their progress. He had suggested a hydrofoil, but the noise that had to be generated put our mages off.
###
As arranged, the Swan of Urdd, borrowed from the FitzGerald clan, rendezvoused with them off the Arran Islands and Draco swapped places with Dean.
Their little flotilla made off for the Scottish islands at a magically enhanced speed.
~~~ SCOTLAND ~~~
Sometime nearing midday the magical navy arrived in Siobhan’s cove and tied up.
The Scottish witch came down to greet them and saw Draco.
“I’m surprised you came back, my lord,” she said curtseying nervously.
“I am too. However, my colleagues said that the recent incident evened the score between us; so now we can start again on a level playing field. Besides, anybody who is against my spiteful father deserves all the corporate help we can give.”
Draco extended his hand and a surprised Siobhan shook it.
“Where’s Rory?”
“Sitting on Innishdhu, keeping an eye on Teinamoray through binoculars; at least I hope he is. He nearly got caught last night when he decided to mount up and take a closer look. Perhaps you had all better come inside; Shagreen has some refreshment waiting for you.”
Siobhan’s table groaned with highland delicacies and there were a couple of bottles of her special brew. The Dumbledorians were polite enough to accept a tot when Shagreen offered, but wise enough not over indulge – after all – they had been warned about the potency of Siobhan’s usquebaugh by the seers, more than once during their passage north.
Rory flew in: “I saw the boats arrive and came back,” he said by way of explanation: “There doesn’t seem to be any activity over Teinamoray. Perhaps they’re like us; having lunch.”
The next person to arrive was a glowing seagull, who transformed into his usual gaudy plumage as he settled on Siobhan’s main beam: *I feel that there is something wrong about that island. I strongly suspect that most of the birds have flown and left multi-images behind. It needs a magely survey. *
Ronald listened carefully to Draco’s rendition of Fawkes’s message and then asked a few questions.
“It seems to me,” Ronald stated after a thoughtful pause: “That Lucy’s planning another raid somewhere else and could well be trying to wrong foot us. We know he’s interested in the McLaggen Isle as a possible base. I doubt he knows of the Navigamus Celera charm; so he will be expecting us to be at sea for a few days. My guess is that he’ll attack when we’re supposed to be about half way and well out of touch. That means tomorrow. He isn’t yet aware that Laggen Lodge is connected to the network, so we have about twelve hours in which to organise. Now if, later on, Harry or Draco don’t appear here, his satraps will send a raven to him telling that they are still at large. So I think the seers should separate in about two hours’ time. Meanwhile we need to check that Fawkes’s surmise is correct. Harry and Draco, will you do a cloaked survey, please? Then we will know for certain how many people are hiding on Teinamoray.”
“Fine … We’ll go straightaway.”
Harry and Draco used the duple and flew with Rory as far as Innishdhu, a small rock pinnacle sticking out of the waves; they left him there and continued cautiously. Wrapped in the invisibility cloak they made a number of passes over the Island. Firstly, with Harry riding pillion with his eyes closed, concentrating on what was hidden beneath the wards. Next it was Draco’s turn to ride behind Harry blindfold, using his piercing Legillimens faculties. They collated what they found with Rory, asking about hidden places, and then re-surveyed those. With their conclusions the trio flew back to the croft.
~~~ AT THE CROFT ~~~
As soon as Harry and Draco left Mage Weasley looked at Mage McMurdoch: “Are you still floo-connected Siobhan?”
“Yes Ronald, this fire is the one; you are free to use it.”
“Thanks,” Ronald threw some powder in: “Headmistress’s office, Hogwarts!”
“Hello?” a squeaky voice answered: “I’m the Professor Headmistress’s elf-secretary, can I help you Master Ronald?”
“Yes please. I need to talk to Madam urgently … Urgently enough to interrupt a class if need be.”
“Just a moment Master, I’ll go and find her.”
A couple of minutes elapsed before Ronald heard the study door open.
“It had better be important, Ronald,” Minerva gasped breathlessly.
“We think that Lucy’s going to attack another of our outposts and he’s trying to get our four seers out of the way at sea or in Scotland while he attacks somewhere else. I’ll explain more later, when we’re not so rushed. What I need from you is to contact a couple of the older mages and glamour them to like Draco and Harry; then we’ll do a simultaneous floo swap when they arrive at Hogwarts.”
“I understand what you have in mind, Ronald. I’ll also alert the other half of our little army and have them standing by at the cottage.”
“Thanks Minerva, please floo me at Siobhan’s when they’ve arrived.”
It took time for Minerva to find two foolhardy volunteers and for the two mages in question to gather their things and port to Hogwarts. It also took time for the seers to complete their survey, because Ginevra and Astoria had to go out in order to use their special talents as well. Ronald made good use of the waiting time sitting with Hermione and preparing a list of the available personnel. The name gathering included a few floo calls to Chantry Cottage to see who was on hand.
The Granger-Weasley’s divided up the troops so that an equal range of skills would reside in each group. For instance: an englamoured seer in each group. Seamus and Dean were divided because of their practical skills along with Gregory and Pansy; plus others, such as Crassus, and Selwyn [machines] or Alexandrou and Ganymede [storm and water].
Pop: “Ron, do you want us to set up a traction beam from Hogwarts.”
“Hi Phealey, yes please? It’s private and no-one will be able to tell how many people are moving that way, will they? Much better than flooing, the Ministry watches the floos like hawks. I could almost bet that Lucy’s got a spy there.”
“That was our idea too.”
Pullet set up a temporarily beam-base at Hogwarts outside on the balcony of the Green Ladies Room. Thus they hoped to avoid disturbing the students more than was necessary and to lessen the possibility of satrap friendly students finding out. So if Lucius also had spies there [quite likely] he would not be apprised of the people being moved. Phealey set up the other end in Siobhan’s private courtyard. Both professors set up a team of elves, drawn from the corps, to maintain the temporary link magically.
When Ginevra and Astoria arrived back from their survey they tried to share their findings with Harry and Draco. They got responses that seemed to come from far away. They thought it odd because they could see the pair on the other side of the room. So they wandered over and received a shock.
There stood Maximiliano in a glamour and Vittorio in a similar disguise; Harry and Draco look-alikes.
“That explains it,” remarked Astoria, after they had said their hellos: *Where are you two, then? *
D: *Did you fathom our little joke then? *
A: *Use the traction beam and portals so no-one knows where you are, good thinking. *
D: *Not us … It was Ron’s idea. *
G: *Nice of you to be modest for a change, Draco. *
D: *My lover would nag me if I claimed that it was my idea, wouldn’t you Harry. *
H: *Of course … We’re going to hang around Number Twelve until something happens. Those two will pretend to be us …*
A: *… We understand the plot, Harry … No need to spell it out. We can stay in touch but if you move further away the link will be broken. Try to let us know if you want us to follow. *
H: *Ron’s idea is that one of us can hold the fort, whilst the others arrive. However our look-alikes will have to make threatening forays against Teinamoray so that Lucy thinks that we’re all there .*
A: *Ron is being cautious in case Lucy is feinting and intends to split us … divide and conquer idea. *
G: *Give our love to the babies whilst you’re there.*
H: *They’re on our knees just now … Oh … There’s a damp patch as well … Draco it’s your turn to change nappies. *
D: *Are you sure, Harry?*
H: *Yes … Quite sure … I did it when we arrived and they were so pleased to see us that they wet themselves … Remember. *
D: *Oh … All right then, * his sending sounded very reluctant.
Ronald soon had the troops organised, all they had to do was sit and wait. The only interesting parts were the forays to observe Teinamoray. Although the observers pretended to be concealing themselves they allowed enough to be seen to keep the few satraps left amused. The forays always included one of the seers or a look-alike.
~~~ ATTACK ~~~
There was a whole day’s peace before the alarm bells started ringing.
The telephone rang in the Solar; Harry answered it.
‘There are a lot of nasties trying to get through the wards. They arrived on the 10.05 from the south,’ Douglas informed him: ‘Father, Marilyn and I are staying inside the wards.’
“Very wise … Um … How many do you think there are?”
‘A carriage full – fifty or sixty at least … Mmm … Draco’s father has appeared … At least I think it’s him … Looks like Draco in a nasty mood but much older … Hang on … He’s organising them; some are going one way and about half the other.’
“Fine … Thanks for the warning … It might be an idea for you to retreat.”
‘No thanks. Marilyn and Father are taking all the valuables into that specially warded cellar that Tarmindale and Grammarian built for us three or four months ago. We’ll lock ourselves in … Must go.’
Harry put the phone down and it rang again.
“Hello Douglas, did you forget something?”
‘It’s not Douglas its Dan, Harry. I’m on my rounds and can see about thirty cloaked people walking over Goldover Hill on the old road. They seemed to have stopped where you say the wards cut across it. They don’t look at all pleased that they are unable to come any further.’
“Thanks, Dan. Whatever you do; don’t go anywhere near the ward boundary. You’d be best not looking at them because they could mesmerise you into handing them in.”
‘But I’m the upholder of the law …’
“… You won’t be if they can catch you … Remember what they did to the Yates Boys … This lot are much uglier and more proficient. Best idea would be if you can get all the residents inside their homes. We’ll deal with it … Like that emergency drill you and the J.P’s had us doing six months ago … Okay.”
‘Yes Sir, understood Sir.’
Harry shook himself wondering where his authority had come from. He looked over at Draco who was kneeling by the fire flooing for reinforcements. Almost at the same time extra combatants started to arrive at the cottage and Ronald came through to the Solar. Ronald was soon there organising them into detachments and sending them off towards the various perimeter domiciles.
