A/N: Sorry it's been so long since I put up a chapter. I've know what was going to happen with this story but I've been having writers block trying to actually write it down. But here is chapter 18. Hope you like it. I think it's the longest chapter yet.
Readying himself for the responsibility ahead, Severus only felt less then prepared for meeting with Yuki. It had been a week, as long
as he could go not seeing Yuki without uncovering suspicion from the other members. Severus only hoped Yuki had not told any of them what had
taken place between them. He would never be able to face them again, would they know his relationship with Yuki. But then again, there wasn't
really a relationship anymore. Severus had ended it before it even started. 'And it was the right thing to do,' Severus reminded
himself.
He apperated onto the corner of Grimmauld place. It was night out and the street lights flickered, if they worked at all. The light above
Severus was out and he was reminded of his disdain for muggle electricity. Clad in black, as always, the Potions Master could only be seen when
he walked under one of the few working lights; and even then he was just a dark shadow. Down towards the end of the street, where number twelve
could be found, Severus stared at the empty space between number ten and eleven. But as soon as he started walking up the empty walkway, the
other houses moved to allow the large, mansion of their neighbor number twelve, room to move in.
Inside, the same lively activities that had been taking place all week, were still in progress. There was a surprising shortage of Order work
to be done and many of the members had been spending most of their off time at headquarter. At the every moment that Severus was outside the
house, turning the doorknob, the children, Sirius, Remus, Molly, Bill, Tonks and Yuki, were all in the lounge talking and laughing. Bill and
Tonks were chatting in a way that seemed more like flirtation; Molly was busy tidying up the book shelves while Hermione stood looking through
the selection and talking about which ones she'd read and which ones she hadn't yet; Sirius was telling Harry stories of his old days while
Ginny sat on the floor before them listening; and Remus and Yuki sat at a small table, a wizards chess set before them, as Ron looked on,
restraining himself from taking over the game when he saw an opportunity for either of them to take the others pieces.
"You know Ron, I can hear you," Remus told the red haired lad who had been mumbling moves under his breath.
"Well...if you would just-"
"Shh," Yuki chuckled and raised her hand to Ron's mouth, "Don't tell him, I want to win."
Remus smiled down at the board as he patiently thought out his move. Ron sat tapping his foot at the older figure while Yuki inwardly
laughed. Remus finally told a bishop what to do and it moved one space.
"Aww!" Ron exclaimed and flopped back in his chair. Remus smiled at him and let out an airy laugh, meaning to delay the end of the game,
just for the sport of watching Ron frazzle himself. "I can't take it anymore." Ron stood up from his chair and walked out of the room,
carelessly stomping away like a small child.
"Remus, that wasn't very nice," Yuki scolded, trying not to laugh.
"No, but it was a bit fun."
Yuki took her knight, and captured the bishop Remus had just moved, when Ron ran back into the room, panting.
"Whoa Ron, gone for a run or something?" Ginny asked.
"N-no...dow-," he said in between breaths, "-down stairs."
"What's downstairs?" Yuki asked.
"He...scared the...shit out of me."
"Ronald!" Molly warned.
"Professor Snape," Ron finally sputtered, "just appeared out of nowhere...like," and he gestured with his arms as he said this, "poof."
At that, most everyone started laughing. It was a known fact that Ron was afraid of Professor Snape, almost as much as he was afraid of
spiders.
"Honestly Ron," Hermione said, not looking up from her book, "you act as though you'd seen a spider."
"What!?" Ron squealed. "Where? Where?" He began spinning in circles, brushing off his arms and swatting his back as best he could.
"No wonder you're doing, exceptionally well in my class Mr. Weasley," someone drawled from the doorway behind Ron. "What with your keen sense
of awareness."
Ron stopped spinning as everyone else stopped laughing, and turned to face Snape at the door. A deep snarling look tracing his pale face.
"Ah, there you are Sevvy," Sirius called, "oh how we have been missing you. A week is simply too long. But now that you have graced us with
your presence, you can leave again."
"As much as I love these little chats, Black, I have business to attend to."
Yuki had been looking down at the board when she first noticed Severus standing there. Her back was to him but she could feel his presence
in the room.
"Business," Sirius hissed, "Sorry Sevvy but we don't sell blood here. You'll have to take your business elsewhere."
Holding back a nasty remark, Snape curled his lip, trembling with sarcasm, and ignored Sirius. "I'm here to meet with Yuki, but if she
would rather join in on your, invigorating festivities, and not attempt to learn where she came from, I will be happy to leave."
"And we bid you ado," Sirius said and saluted Snape, expecting him to just leave.
Remus had been watching Yuki from across the board, noticing her head hanging low. "Yuki," he whispered, "you don't have to do this today
you know?"
But she shook her head and stood up, never once looking at anyone else in the room. "Let's go," she told Severus and walked past him out of
the room.
With one more glower in Sirius direction, Severus turned on his heel and followed Yuki down the hall to her room. She didn't even set up the
chairs for them. For some reason Yuki didn't really expect to get to work today, she hadn't really expected to see Severus again, and she
wasn't really ready too. Seeing that she wasn't doing anything, just standing in the middle of the floor, Severus quickly grabbed a chair and
sat down in the spot he always sat at, and waited for Yuki to do the same.
"Well," Severus drawled.
"I thought you were going to ask for someone else to do this," Yuki questioned, staring at the floorboards under her feet.
"I did," Severus stated, " But Dumbledore wouldn't take me of the assignment."
"Oh."
Yuki stood glued to her spot for a few more moments, as Severus was growing impatient.
"Are we going to do this or are we just going to waste my time?"
Yuki, who was already hurt by the fact that Severus had tried to get out of seeing her, was now feeling the urge to run from the
room. Even though his voice was low, she had never heard him speak to her before with such animosity. She grabbed a chair and placed it in
front of Severus', and sat down before him.
"Perhaps we have not done this enough for you to remember that you must look in my eyes," Severus barked, using the only defense he knew
how to keep his emotions from bursting out of him. Yuki looked up at him, for the first time meeting his eyes since he left her that morning.
Severus could clearly see what he had done to her looking right back at him. He knew this was a bad idea, his mind was weak, but he had no
other choice. Severus concentrated as best he could on the green pools of paint mixed in Yuki's eyes as the hues began to swirl together. And
at the same moment, Yuki was over taken by the invading black surrounding her.
The black was dimly defeated by a faint yellow light flickering in the distance. It grew brighter and soon there were more lights around.
Candles, stocked on tables and shelves in a poorly decorated room. A shabby sofa leaned against a wall with an old wooden table before it,
covered in dozens of tiny white candles. A man sat on the couch, wearing a white button down shirt, un-tucked over black trousers. His long
black hair was hanging down, covering his face as he looked over a paper in his hands. He reached his left hand up to scratch his neck and as he
did, he revealed a deep burn on his forearm where his shelve was rolled up. But then, from the door beside the sofa he was sitting on, the knob
began to turn. The man put down the paper in his hands and quickly rolled his sleeves down before picking the paper back up. The door open and
closed as a women walked in. She had shoulder length red hair, tinted with soft brown streaks that seemed to frame her face. She was wearing a
black overcoat on top of a lemon yellow blouse and pair of rusty blue jeans. After hanging her coat on a hook by the door, the red haired women
hopped on the couch behind the dark haired man, and wrapped her arms around his waist.
"Did you have a good day?" the women asked as she set her chin to rest on the mans left shoulder.
The man finally looked up, revealing a much younger Severus. His skin was still pale but it wasn't laced with age. "Yes. And you?"
"Eh," the women sighed and reached her right arm up to stroke Severus' black hair.
Severus dropped the paper and grabbed her hand. In one swifted and almost impossible move, he flipped the red haired women around and placed
her in his lap. She laughed and looked up at his smiling face, and brushed a stray piece of hair behind his ear. Her hand came to rest on his
cheek and Severus leaned down to kiss her. It started out soft but the kiss deepened and soon Severus' hand was finding its way up the yellow
silk blouse.
But the women broke the kiss, looked up at him and smiled seductively. "Perhaps we should go back to our room," she suggested.
"I have to go out tonight," Severus told her.
"Again?"
"Yes."
"Thats almost every night this week Severus," the women sighed.
"I have too," Severus plainly stated.
"No you don't. You don't have to do this."
Severus moved the women from his lap and sat her down on the sofa. He stood from the couch and walked around the small table. "Yes I do."
"No you-"
"Please don't start this again Morgan," Severus exclaimed. "I don't want to fight.
Morgan sighed and fell back onto the sofa. "Fine. Go."
A bright white, fading from the walls, began to seep across the room. Soon it was blurred and covered the room in all white, but then the
white began to disperse and the shabby room was once again in view. The women, Morgan, was laying on the ouch again, wearing a pair of black
sweat pants and a wool sweater. A paper book was in her left hand, and a pen in the other, as she lay doing a crossword puzzle. She sighed
deeply and circled a word, lamely crossing it off the list. Then the door near the sofa burst open, causing Morgan to bolt up into a sitting
position. Severus, drenched in water and wearing a long black cloak, trudged into the room.
"Severus," Morgan exclaimed. "What happened?"
Severus took his wet coat off and hung it up. His hair was soaked and sticking to his forehead. "Why aren't you in bed?" he asked, ignoring
her question.
"I was waiting up for you. Where have you been?"
Severus sat and began taking his shoes off, blatantly ignoring Morgan.
"Severus-"
"What?" he snapped.
Clearly hurt, Morgan backed and and turned to walk down the hall.
"Morgan," Severus called, "I'm sorry."
"No Severus," she said, "I'm sorry. I can't do this anymore."
Severus stood up from his chair and walked toward Morgan. "What do you mean?"
"I can't do this anymore Severus. This isn't working."
"We can make it work."
"No we can't. Not as long as heis the most important person in your life!"
Severus stepped back from Morgan and narrowed his eyes. "Don't talk about him."
"Why not?" Morgan teased. "Will it hurt your feelings if I talk about your precious master?"
"Stop it Morgan!" Severus commanded. "You know nothing of this matter." He turned and began walking from her, across the room.
"I know more then you know Severus! I know that he is an evil tyrant. That he will be stopped and that anyone who follows his ignorant rule is just foolish."
"Stop!"
"He stands for nothing and anyone who believes in him is nothing. You will all fail!"
"Stop it! It is not nothing! It is a worthy cause Morgan. One day the world will be rid of all the dirty blood out there and the rightful pure blood people will reign. It is wise to be on the right side for when that end comes!"
Morgan paused and looked at Severus as in his angry rant he had walked up close to her. "I am what you call dirty blood Severus. Do you want to be rid of me too?"
"No," Severus whispered after a long silence.
"Then why do you do this?" she asked him.
"Because, because I have a purpose. Because it gives me a reason to live."
"I thought I gave you that," Morgan told him.
They stood looking at each other for a time, till Morgan walked to the door and grabbed her coat from the hook.
"I don't ever want to see you again Severus," Morgan said as she threw open they door. "I hope you die for your cause." And she slammed the door behind her, leaving a stunned Severus to stand in their apartment alone. As he went to sit down on the torn couch, the room started to turn black. It faded in with Severus' attire and wet hair and soon the whole room was a faint shade of black.
It turned that shade, only to dim and return to the normal color of the world around. Yuki rubbed her eyes and slowly adjusted to what was around her. Severus was sitting across from her, his head down, in his hands. Still trying to take in what she had seen, Yuki wondered why she had seen Severus memories and not her own. When he did not look up, or move, or show any sign of life, Yuki reached her hand out to Severus' shoulder.
"Severus," she said as she touched him.
Severus jerked away from her and stood up, knocking his chair to the floor in the process.
"Now you see," he told her before storming past her to the door. Yuki made to follow but in an instant Severus was out the door and gone from number twelve, leaving Yuki just he had so many times; alone and in confusion. Yuki sat back down in her chair and placed her own head in her hands, just as Severus had done. Willingly or not Severus had let her see into his life. And in a small way Yuki understood him even more now; at least she understood his actions more. It was not only her he was afraid of hurting, but he was also afraid of her hurting him. Yuki wasn't sure she could prove to him that she would never hurt him. But she also wasn't sure she could promise that she would never hurt him.
I think everyone was kind of shocked when Severus told Yuki he killed his lover. I tried to give you a little glimsp as to why he did it. This doesn't make what he did legit but I hope it shows you how it was so easy for him. though it actually wasn't easy for him. Well I think you get my point. So what will happen with Sevvy and Yuki now? Stay tuned to find out. oh, and PLEASE REVIEW!!!!
