*Severus walked in to his bedroom and looked around, there was noise coming from the bathroom and he walked over to the open door and smiled. There was Hermione, his beautiful wife bathing their son who was, of course, splashing his chubby little arms in the water. The little boy had black curls and bright light brown eyes and when he spied Severus standing there watching him he held out his arms with a giggle. Hermione turned and looked over her shoulder at her husband with a sigh and stood up handing him the facecloth.
“He’s been waiting for you” She says “So haven’t I”
“Sorry, love” He took the facecloth and kissed her lips quickly keeping his eyes on the baby “I didn’t want to have to bring my grading back here for the weekend so I stayed to get a bulk of it done”
“It’s okay” Hermione smiled “Now get the baby clean and I’ll be waiting downstairs with dinner”
“Okay” He said watching her leave. He turned back to the little black haired baby in the tub but instead he found a baby that looked just like Teddy Lupin looking at him. He looked at the child in horror and then walked closer to him, his eyes roving over him looking for any sign of himself in there. He found none, this child…this little boy didn’t belong to him, this wasn’t his child*
Severus sat up in bed breathing heavily and sweating. He looked around his empty bedroom and worked to calm his wildly beating heart before slowly laying back down. He didn’t need to be a seer to know that he was worrying that his soon-to-be wife would cheat on him and he’d end up being stuck caring for a bastard child. Another part of him, a primitive and possessive part of him wanted to go to Lupins private chamber right then a beat the hell out of him for even daring to believe he had any right to touch what belonged to him! He leaned his head back and sighed waiting for the dream to disappear and sleep to come back. It was about five in the morning and after trying and failing to fall back asleep he gave up and started to get ready for his day.
Once he was properly showered and dressed Severus made his way outside for a morning walk. He figured that the cold air could also help get rid of the dream that was still haunting him even after an hour since waking up. He had made it past the Forbidden Forest and to the edge of the lake when he stopped and let out a sigh. There was one person that he didn’t want to see at that moment and there he was standing there looking out over the lake contemplatively. Severus tried to sneak past but knew it was no good, the only way he’d be able to make it past Remus was if he allowed it.
“Good Morning, Severus” Remus greeted as he got close enough “How are you?”
“I am alright” He said wearily as he slowed his pace.
“What are you doing awake so early?” Remus asked.
“I awoke early” Severus answered “And you?”
“Full moon is getting close” He answered “I can never sleep to long as it comes in” He offered a smile “Which works in perfect sync with my sleeping for days after the full moon”
“Possibly” Severus said.
“Hermione is already up” Remus said with a laugh “Working on something for work in the staff library, we already had a cup of tea” He shook his head “She makes me laugh, as brilliant as she is…you know she has a theory on everything from magical to muggle sicknesses to…” His head snapped back with the sudden fist that was slammed in to his nose and he looked at Severus in horror “What the hell?!”
“Sorry…sort of” Severus sneered at him. He hadn’t meant to hit him but as Remus spoke all of sudden the child from Severus’s dreams popped in to his mind and he reacted.
“What the hell?!” Remus repeated trying to stop the blood pouring down his face “You…dick!”
“Don’t go near Hermione anymore!” Severus said suddenly “You…hypocrite!”
“Hypocrite?” Remus repeated after fixing his nose.
“You were so upset when you thought Tonks was cheating on you when…” Severus clenched his teeth to keep from saying too much and had to physically keep himself from hitting him again.
“What are you…” Remus started but then realization dawned on him “Hermione told you”
“You…” He clenched his teeth again “You claim that I have become your best friend and yet you never told me that you’d slept with my fiancée?”
“Merlin Severus” Remus breathed “It wasn’t like it was last week. This was ages ago, before this stupid law was put in to place, before you two started to fall in love and before you thought of her as anything more than an annoying Gryffindor!” He paced back and forth a few times “If I had come to you and said ‘oh hey, Severus guess who I shagged…Hermione Granger!’ what would you have done?”
“I…” He stopped and thought about it.
“If you didn’t make fun of me for sleeping with her” Remus said “You’d have accused me of probably being attracted to her when she was a child or being some sort of pervert” He looked at his hands “When it became apparent that you two were getting married I tried to talk to you….really I did but…you were happy”
“So?” He snapped
“Look at you now” Remus said “She tells you that she slept me and you hit me. What would you have done if I told you that she slept with me…I’d have become a potions ingredient”
“You still might” Severus snapped and Remus grinned.
“You slept with Narcissa” Remus pointed out “She would probably forget about that and yet you hold on to the fact that she slept with me”
“She slept with Draco!” He hissed.
“You slept with Fleur Delacour during the Tri-Wizard Tournament!” Remus shot back and was surprised to see a small cocky grin cross the other mans face.
“She slept with Black of all people!” Severus said quickly.
“And you slept with Bellatrix” Remus said “We could do this all day if you like”
Severus looked at Remus and watched as he moved away from him and back to the water. Snape sighed and watched the other man, he was right of course, they had all made their own mistakes and had things in the past that would forever haunt them. Severus sat down on the ground and told Remus what he’d just thought about the past being able to haunt them and how they had to learn to get over it. Remus turned and looked down at him before going over and sitting near him watching the suns slow climb in the sky.
“The trick isn’t getting over the decisions made in the past” Remus said “The trick is not allowing them to haunt you anymore”
“Easier said than done” Severus pointed out and stood up, he held out his hand and pulled Remus to his feet. It was cold and it was time to go to breakfast as it was the last one of the term he and Remus had to be there.
“Holy shit” Remus said as they walked out of the forest, they stopped and his eyes were wide, he was looking straight ahead and Severus was about to ask what he was looking at when he heard a squeal. His eyes snapped up when he heard that noise and recognized the voice, it was Hermione and she was running full force at someone that was standing some hundred feet away from her. The person had short hair but longer bangs, was tall and slightly lanky but had wide shoulders. It was definitely a male and that made the possessive side that Severus tried to hide rear its ugly head “I can actually smell the testosterone coming off of you right now”
“Who is that?” Severus asked as his fiancée threw her arms around the man and he spun her around in a circle.
“It’s Sirius” Remus answered.
A/N: How do you like it. Severus’s POV. He is trying to be understanding with Hermione and her past because well…he has one too but its hard for him when Remus is so close and, yes, being a bit of a Hypocrite.
