Hermione P.O.V.
Getting back to Hogwarts was quite an adventure. I had to travel on the ship that the Durmstrang guys took the first time that they came to Hogwarts. I stayed in Viktor’s room, while he shared Sasha’s for the trip. There was a few problems with Headmaster Karkaroff, but Viktor managed to shut him up pretty quickly. By the time we reached Hogwarts, the Durmstrang guys all accepted me and told Viktor that if he was not around they would look out for me. This pissed off my independent side, but I knew I had to get used to having a “guard” when I became Queen. Queen… part of me isn’t sure on how to feel about that title, but I know that if I want to be with Viktor, then I have to get used to it.
Once we arrive at Hogwarts, there was a flurry of activities that lead up to the second task. The professors were giving us more and more homework to try and take out mind off of the second task, and it was working. The evening before the second task, Viktor and I were sitting in the library working on our essays when Professor Snape showed up.
“Miss Granger, I am here to inform you that the Headmaster wants you in his off immediately. If you would follow me I will escort you there.” Quickly gathering my things, I tell Viktor that I will see him tomorrow and follow my Potion’s Master.
Once out of the library and on our way to the Headmaster’s office, Professor Snape stops and looks at me. I notice sorrow in his eyes before he whispers, “I am sorry Miss Granger” and everything goes black.
Viktor P.O.V.
Mimi was right, the task had to do with the Black Lake. Standing on the Platform in the middle of the lake, I look around trying to find her but she isn’t here. Harry and Sasha have both started to look for her, but it is almost time for the task to start. Sasha and Harry come back with somber faces and I know that she isn’t here. I know there is a good reason why she isn’t here, but I wish she would have sent me an owl or something!
I am brought out of my thoughts when Headmaster Dumbledore starts to speak.
“LAST NIGHT, SOMETHING SPECIAL WAS TAKEN FROM EACH OF THE CHAMPIONS AND IS NOW AT THE BOTTOM OF THE BLACK LAKE. EACH CHAMPION HAS ONE HOUR TO RETRIEVE THEIR ITEM OR IT BE LOST FOREVER. YOU MAY BEGIN AT THE SOUND OF THE CANNON!”
Two second later that cannon sounded and I quickly transfigured the top part of my body into a shark before jumping into the cold, dark, water. It only took a minute or two for me to get comfortable with my new form and I quickly headed towards the middle of the lake.
Going through a forest of seaweed, I am attacked by Grindylows but make quick work of them. The attack set me behind, so I start to swim faster until I hear the song the Golden Egg sang. Knowing I was close, I kept my wand at the ready and went towards the song. Entering the Merepeople village, I hesitantly look around until I spot three masses tied to the bottom of the lake.
Slowly swimming closer, I notice one of them is Mimi. Quickly cutting the rope with my jaws, I quickly swim to the surface. When we break the surface, Mimi gasps for air and I swim her over to the platform as I wait for my transfiguration to end.
“IN FIRST PLACE, MR. VIKTOR KRUM!” I heard as I was finally able to get out of the water and on to the platform. I am immedatly draped with a towel and shot with a warming charm. Forgetting about everyone else, I crawl over to Mimi and pull her shivering body on to my lap. Wrapping her with my towel as well, I kiss the top of her head as we try to warm and wait for the other two champions.
Feeling Mimi shiver, I wrap my arms tightly around her and watch as the Beauxbatons Champion comes up without her person and the Hogwarts Champion comes back right before the hour is up with his. While everyone who was in the lake gets tended too and warmed up, the three headmasters and the game warden award points for this task.
I am surprised to see that I am in first place after my horrible attempt at the first task, the Hogwarts Champion is in second place and only a few points behind me, and lastly the Beauxbatons Champion. By the time that everyone has been checked over by Madame Pomphrey, we are lead to boats to be taken back to the mainland.
The ride in our boat was very quiet, Harry and Sasha sat in front of Hermione and I and no one spoke a word. It wasn’t until we landed that Sasha and Harry went off and left Hermione and I alone. Taking her hand and putting it in the crook of my arm, I lead her back to the ship where I lead her to my bathroom so she could shower and warm up.
I quickly head to the main shower room and shower off the remanences of the Black Lake, before making it back to my room. Mimi is still in the shower when I got back, so I called for one of the House Elves to bring some hot tea and soup for the two of us. The food was delivered as Mimi was stepping out of the bathroom.
The awkwardness between us was thick, but I wasn’t sure why. When Mimi sat down on the chair across from me, I looked at her and was about to speak before she burst into tears. Startled by this action, I quickly got up and took her into my arms and let her cry while I whispered sweet nothings into her ear. By the time her sobs become sniffles, I was able to finally ask her what was wrong.
“I am so sorry Viktor! I wasn’t there to help you this morning! You probably thought I forgot! But when I left with Professor Snape last night, he whispered that he was sorry and then shot me with a spell. The next thing I knew, I was with you in the Black Lake!” Mimi wailed as she started to sob again.
“Shhhh, Mimi. It is okay. I understand. Da, I vas little upset that you vern’t there but I knew you had good reason and you did. You vere at bottom of lake. I am not bad, so please dry tears.” I told her with a smile on my face. “Come, let us eat then nap. Ve had long day and I am beat.”
With a smile, Mimi wiped her tears and gathered up a cup of tea and sandwich before sitting on my bed. Following her lead, I sit next to her and we quietly eat and drink, basking in the silence. When we were both done, the House Elf came and took our left overs. Getting comfortable, the two us snuggled down into my bed and fell asleep.
