"Are you going to open it?"
He turned his head from his study of the ancient writing on the door itself. "No," he answered. "Not yet. There is..." his head tilted slightly, an odd expression entering his silver eyes, "something calling me."
"What do you mean something is calling you?" came the question from his cousin as he stepped to his side. "Rory?"
Roark turned suddenly and began to move away from them, ignoring the calls from father, uncles, and cousin. His husbands, when they looked to them merely shrugged, "There is a vague feeling..." Rodolphus told them as they started after him. "I can't explain it, it's just...there."
"It's like a call..." Evan said as Roark disappeared through a half-hidden archway, and following him, they found themselves in a beautifully decorated, tiled Atrium, a large fountain in the center, the sound of water still running...a strange sound for a world devoid of water...of life.
Roark froze suddenly as with a shimmer, a holograph appeared. He was tall, standing about three inches over six feet, he wore a mint green caftan, a jeweled belt gathering the folds of the caftan in, arms left bare but for golden arm bands on his upper arms and wrists, a simple circlet of beaten gold resting on his midnight hair.
"Welcome, Heir of my Lord. I am Marcus, chosen First Consort of the First Lord."
"What the fuck?" Evan breathed, staring holograph.. "How the hell--"
"How the hell indeed. When my Lord realized that Kobol was beyond saving...he began to build the ships that would take our people away from our dying World, though we still had no idea WHY she was dying. We only knew that she was. It took three yahren to build the thirteen ships...One ship for each of our Lords, and large enough to carry thousands."
"Their objective was to find a new place to settle?"
"Yes, but as time to leave drew closer, I fell ill with the strange virus that had taken our people. My Lord was already devastated because of the death of his First wife. He decided to nurse me himself..."
"And caught the virus."
"Unfortunately. We knew we could not go with the rest, we were too weak, his power...and his magic were rapidly fading. With the last of his magic, he turned our home into a sanctuary for the day you came Roark Christopher Durin Peverell Potter Lestrange-Rosier."
"How did he know his name?" came softly, as if she thought he wouldn't hear her, but he did, and he smiled.
"My Lord's gift of premonition was strong. He dreamed of him...knew that yahren's into the future he would come here searching for a way forward...for the Thirteenth Lord. He returned here, you see, the Thirteenth Lord. My Lord, bedridden, and so weak...told him what he must do when we passed on. We made this holograph for the day you walked into this room. This House. The property will forever be as it was, though some aspects have faded, they are still active.
"If you ever need to talk I will be here. Find my Lord's Tomb. What you need to go forward is there. Good luck, Heir of my Lord. And know this. The circle is now complete."
As the holograph faded, silence fell, if only for a moment. "Well...that was...not what I was expecting," Roark said as he turned. "What say we return to camp, have something to eat, rest. We can start fresh in the morning."
"Sounds like a good idea. Are you alright, son?"
"I'm fine, Papa. The pull is gone. You know, if I thought it was safe...and a good idea, I'd suggest we move the camp here."
"But it's not?"
"Not by a long shot. If someone got it into their heads to explore...yeah...not a good idea."
As they began to move out of the room, Serina asked, "So what was that room?"
"Probably the Atrium that would have led us back into the Harem. I plan to explore the Manor further tomorrow, see what I can find out about what happened here, and where his tomb may be."
"Harem?"
A soft chuckle sounded at her look. "Of course. Kobolians were rather...free. They enjoyed sex. A LOT. As several of those depictions,'" he lifted a hand to point, "show."
Following his gaze and waved hand, she saw a vivid depiction of-- "OH MY!" Her face flushed. "Um...rather graphic, aren't they?"
"They are indeed, AND rather interesting. I wouldn't, in fact, mind trying out a few of those positions."
"ROARK!"
Roark was not the only one who laughed this time.
