Sorry for the slight lateness of this chapter. It is my daughters birthday week so have been spending time with her and busy getting things ready for her small family party this weekend.
This chapter is packed with info. Let me know what you guys think and if you have any questions. I will find someway to answer them.

Harry watched Edge run out after his Sire still simmering with anger. That made the second time Dante had attempted to get at his Severus. He growled under his breath causing the huge wolf in the middle of the room to turn to look at him. Harry heard both men behind him gasp as he turned his attention to the wolf now facing them. The wolf stood at his shoulders, and looked as though it had seen better days, but was obviously not a danger to them currently.
“He’s fine. Don’t worry.”
Severus scoffed but Harry could hear the underlying fear still tainting the mans voice as he spoke. “That is a shifted werewolf, Potter.”
Harry nodded at the wolf who sat back on its haunches its head hung low, ears back. “It is.” Harry looked over his shoulder at the two dark haired men. “He’s perfectly sane though.” With that statement Harry walked over to the wolf to gently pat its head between two large furry ears.
Sirius took a few slow steps forward. “Remus? Moony? Which one is it?” He sounded unsure.
“It’s both of them. It really is okay, Sirius. Come say hello.” Harry motioned for his godfather to come closer keeping a close eye on Severus in case the man decided to bolt. He certainly looked like he was considering the option.
Sirius walked up beside Harry and slowly held his hand out for the wolf. It turned golden eyes on him before nosing gently at the offered hand and giving it a soft lick. Sirius gasped a shocked laugh as he ran both hands along the sides of the wolfs large head. It closed its eyes with a soft purr like growl as its tail flopped softly behind him. “You need some work old friend.” The wolf huffed at him with a glare but did not move away making Sirius chuckle at him.
Harry smiled. “He seems to be having trouble figuring out how to turn back all things considered.”
“I’ve got him.” Sirius transformed into Padfoot so he and Remus could understand the other.
Leaving the pair to sort things out, Harry moved back toward Severus, who had yet to move from his spot in the chair. He looked pale and stiff, almost like a skittish horse that could bolt at any wrong move. “Severus?”
“I’m fine.” Came the clipped answer.
Dark eyes never moved from the canines in front of him. His voice was steady, all traces of fear gone, but Harry knew better as his scent was still coated with it. It made him anxious and nervous. This Severus was completely foreign to him. Snarky and rude Severus he could handle. Harry wanted that Severus back.
“What can I do?” He winced as his voice cracked. Damn it. Fighting Dante off was easier than this.
Those eyes suddenly snapped onto his making him jump slightly. There was a battle raging in those dark depths. Harry allowed their eyes to stay connected hoping to calm the other man. Severus would have to be the one to break the contact. Harry took a small step closer to test the waters.
Severus suddenly jumped to his feet and stormed toward the door. No, he couldn’t handle this, not right now. There was too much happening and he could feel his mental walls starting to crack and crumble in places. He needed to be alone. Now.
“Severus!”
Harry came to an abrupt stop when Severus turned and glared sharply at him. “If you know what is good for you, Potter, you will leave me be.” He all but growled as he slammed the door behind him.
Harry took three steps towards the door before a sharp yip caught his attention. He turned to look at his two Godfathers still in canine forms.
*Leave him be, Harry.*
*But…*
Moony shook his head. *He needs space. Give it to him.*
Padfoot shook, transforming back into Sirius. “Moony is right, pup. The snarky bastard will no doubt find you once he has sorted himself out.”
“Or hide himself away from me completely.” Harry grumbled but flopped back into the armchair Severus had vacated.
Sirius gave his godson a sympathetic look as he made his way to the fireplace. “He’s been loyal in feeding you lately. I don’t think he’d let you starve at this point.” He paused. “He better not anyway. I’ll hunt him down myself if he tries that.” A faint growl entered his voice.
Moony snorted. *Just firecall the old man.*
Sirius snorted a laugh and Harry couldn’t help but laugh along. “Hello, Moony. Nice to meet you.”
The wolf looked down and away from them making both men chuckle even more. It was clear the wolf was blushing despite the fur covering it up. Sirius kneeled down by the fireplace to make his call. Harry moved over to the wolf to scratch behind its ears. *Still having trouble turning back?*
Moony sighed leaning into Harry’s touch. *Yes, unfortunately. Apparently, my transformation works a little differently than Padfoots.*
*Maybe one of you isn’t on the same page with turning back?*
The tawny wolf blinked at Harry then nodded. *Yes, most likely. Moony doesn’t like that Dante is still here. He feels on edge.*
Harry let out a soft growl at the other vampires name. Moony licked a cheek before lying down. *Lay down with me. Might as well get comfortable.* He sighed in relief as he got comfortable.
Harry did as suggested leaning back against the thin wolf. Its fur really was course and dry. The wolf looked and felt very undernourished. The vampire could feel the ribs protruding into his back. Harry wondered if it was because it was the first transformation or if it was because they had been half transforming for so long.
His mind turned to Severus. He really hoped the man was okay. His stomach churned and he itched to follow the Slytherin but Moony was right. Severus needed his space and would not appreciate it being encroached on. The man had looked completely rattled when he had stormed out earlier. Thankfully, he had fed earlier so would be okay for a day or two if he stretched it. He clenched his hands into fists. Harry did not like Dante at all. Sure he was Edge’s Sire but come on. There was no way, especially after earlier events, he was going to get along with the older vampire. Twice he had tried to take what belonged to Harry. Twice he had tried to take Severus from him. A deep growl rose in his throat. Moony nudged him grabbing back his attention.
*Deep breaths, Harry. Calm yourself.* The wolf kept his voice soft in an attempt to calm his irate cub.
He took a few deep breaths with his eyes closed. He felt somewhat calmer but still wanted, no needed, to check on Severus. The man had left by himself and Dante was still in the house. What if Dante found him again? Harry clenched his teeth feeling his body tense again. He pressed his hands into his eyes to stop the overwhelming need to be with Severus. Moony whined beside him giving him another nudge but Harry barely registered him. It was like he was far away. His mind was growing foggy and distant.
Stop that.
He felt like he had been grabbed and pulled quite suddenly down. Harry felt disoriented for a brief moment, slowly taking in his surroundings. He was in a bathroom? The hell?
You were pounding and reaching so insistently, Potter.
Severus? It sounded like the man but the voice was weary and tired. He could hear water being turned on and blinked to see a tub being filled. Was he in Severus’ mind?
Seriously, Potter. As you can see I am fine. Can you leave me in peace now?
Wait, what was happening?
I ask myself that daily. Now leave me be, Potter.
The connection was shut and Harry suddenly found himself back in the study. He blinked rapidly as Moony and Sirius came into focus.
“Harry? Can you hear me?” Sirius’ voice was concerned and held a tint of fear.
“Yeah.” Harry shook his head to clear the fuzzy feeling. “What happened?”
Sirius and Moony looked briefly at each other before turning back to their godson. They only looked slightly relieved. “We were hoping you could tell us.”
Harry shook his head again looking down at his hands. Did he really reach out to Severus’ mind? Was he seeing through his eyes? Hearing what he heard? It had all seemed fuzzy and a little disconnected but clear enough he could understand. The pressure to the hunt the man down was diminished greatly. “Dante still here?”
Sirius huffed. “Yes. Dumbledore wants him to stay put. Edge was talking with him downstairs.”
Harry nodded. If Severus really was in his bathroom then Dante was a whole floor below him and on the other side of the house. Harry felt himself breathe a little easier. All three tensed when the door opened. Moony growled softly baring his teeth.
“Easy there. Just me.”
Sirius stood. “Edge. Where’s Dante?”
Edge sighed. “Placed in a room where he is most likely going to be staying while he heals.” Edge gave a nod in Moony’s direction. “You did quite the number on his arm.”
Moony huffed and pointed his nose upward. *Shouldn’t have went after my cub.*
Edge chuckled sadly. “True. He has a weird way of doing things.”
Harry growled. “I don’t like him.”
“I know.” Edge sighed. “I don’t blame you. You are not required to like him.” The vampire was troubled.
Sirius crossed his arms. “Good, because we don’t. Don’t trust him either.”
Edge nodded looking depressed. He looked around the room squinting. “Where is Severus?”
“In his room. In the bath…I think.” Harry was unsure why he seemed so sure of the statement. He was still unclear what had happened.
His godfathers looked at him confused. “How would you know that?” Sirius questioned.
Edge blinked at his Childe. “You connected with his mind?” Just how bonded were the two of them?
“Maybe.” Harry looked at his Sire. “I’m not sure. I could hear him and see around him. It was almost like I could see and hear what he was.”
“You could hear and see what his mind registered and allowed you to see.” Edge looked slightly troubled. “The bond is stronger than I would have thought.” He cursed himself for not realizing what had been happening. The signs had all been there.
“What bond?”
Edge seemed unsure but sighed and moved further into the room. “You and Severus have formed a bond with each other unknowingly. It is my fault really for paying attention to the wrong one and not recognizing the signs for what they were.”
Harry swallowed. “What kind of bond, Edge?”
“It’s called a Pair bond.” Edge sighed and ran his fingers through his hair. “It binds the two of you through feeding on blood and magic together.”
“Blood and magic?” Sirius glanced between the two vampires in confusion before settling a glare toward Edge. “How could you miss this?”
“Like I said, I paid attention to the wrong one. I was not aware one as young as Harry would even be able to create the bond. I was so focused on Harry that I didn’t notice the signs in Severus for what they were. I should have. I was once in a Pair bond myself when I was human.”
“What does it do?” Harry felt his heart racing. What had he forced Severus into? The man was going to really hate him for this.
“Increased protectiveness for one. It can vary between pairs how strong it gets. It depends largely on the magic shared if I remember correctly. I’m not sure of all the effects on the vampire side unfortunately. Only Dante could share that information.” Harry growled causing Edge to sigh and nod. “I know going to him is a big no.”
*You were paired with Dante, then?* Moony asked softly. He could smell the vampires distress.
Edge nodded. “Yes. I was with Dante for a few years before I got turned.” Edge went paler than he already was. He shook his head. “No, I’m not going to talk about it. It’s already been a long night and it’s not even midnight.”
“I don’t know what you saw in him to be honest.” Sirius commented. Not cruelly but the words still stung.
Edge shook his head again. “Believe me when I say that the Dante you know and the Dante I was with are two distinctly different people.”
Harry noticed the blue eyes were starting to look glassy. “Do you know what happened to cause the change?” He would try to understand for his Sire but knew he would never personally trust the older vampire.
Edge was silent for a good while. The others said nothing nor moved. They waited patiently. Moony whined when a pinkish tear slid down a pale cheek. “Darius…he was…” Edge took a deep and rattled breath. “He was tortured and killed. Dante lost himself that day. It’s why he left. Why he…” Edge buried his face in his hands as everything seemed to catch up to him.
Moony moved over to the vampire and gave him a soft nuzzle. Edge gasped out a sob and clenched onto the fur around the wolfs neck as his legs gave out from under him. Harry and Sirius spared but a quick glance at each other before transforming and moving to snuggle around Edge as well. Harry felt himself begin to purr as he pressed close to his Sire. Edge was strong and tough. He had years of growth and experience after all, but those were years also spent alone or with people that were snuffed out within a blink. He was never able to hold onto someone for very long but that was going to change now. Harry would be sure of it.

Severus paced his room, from one side of the bed around to the other, back and forth, back and forth. He had been steadily wearing out a path since the sun had gone down. After a long bath the night before he had tried to sleep with no luck. Every noise sent him sitting up wide awake for nothing. Only when the sun broke through his window was he able to relax enough to sleep, if only for a few hours.
It infuriated him. He was spy for Merlin’s sake. He was in the Dark Lords Inner Circle. There was no way he could scare this easily and still be alive. Severus had thought he was made of tougher material than this but apparently all it took was a seventeen year old vampire to throw him completely out of sorts. He dropped onto the edge of the bed pressing his hands into tired eyes before excess energy sent him back into motion again. It had been like this since he woke earlier in the afternoon. His very being was yelling at him to find Harry. That he could relax if only he was with Harry. Harry would protect him. Severus growled punching the wall by the head of his bed angrily. He was not some damsel in distress, damn it. What had the brat done to him? He cursed and startled when a knock sounded at his door. Severus grits his teeth in frustration. He was better than this. Fuck.
“Go away, Potter.”
“It’s Edge, Severus. Will you let me in? We need to talk.”
His initial reaction was to tell the vampire how he could fuck himself but the tone of voice made him pause. The vampire sounded almost withdrawn but resigned to this discussion. Severus growled under his breath before calling for Edge to come in. The vampire was pale, like he hadn’t eaten for days, and his eyes were dull in the light. Edge moved slow as he shut the door behind him, most likely so he didn’t startle Severus with any quick movements. It irritated Severus further.
“I am not some scared rabbit.” He sneered with a glare.
Edge looked at him but nodded. His whole demeanor screamed depressed. “I’m sorry.” He shook his head before motioning Severus to sit.
“I’ll stand if it’s all the same to you.” Severus sneered. A small part held concern for the vampire but he stamped it down. He couldn’t deal with every ones problems right now. He needed to fix his own issues before he got called to the meeting that he would eventually be called to at any point.
Edge shrugged before grabbing the desk chair and sitting in it himself. He leaned forward resting his elbows on his knees and clasping his hands together before taking a deep sigh. Severus narrowed his eyes. What had happened to the always confident vampire in front of him? What did he miss? Nervousness began to settle over him. His hands felt clammy suddenly.
“Harry?” The whisper escaped him before he could stop it.
Edge looked up at him in surprise before a soft smile settled over his features. “Harry is fine.”
Severus felt his body relax before it tensed again as he realized what had happened. He cursed under his breath.
“The more you fight this, the worse it is going to get.”
Severus glared. “Fight what?”
Edge sighed again. “What your magic is telling you. What the bond is telling you.”
“What bond?” Severus growled. His body was entering fight or flight mode. He tensed against the thought of flight. He would not flee damn it.
Edge stared at Severus taking in the tense muscles. Seems blunt would be the best option tonight. “The Pair Bond that you and Harry have unknowingly entered.”
Severus stormed towards his door. How dare the brat? Edge flitted in front of the door causing his heart to leap into his throat and he flinched back. For fucks sake, get a grip on yourself.
“Harry had no idea what he was doing, Severus. If you are going to blame anyone it will be me.” Edge growled at him, daring him to try to go around him.
The dark haired Slytherin swallowed thickly against the unreasonable fear spreading through him. This vampire was blocking him from getting to Harry. This vampire was angry and angry vampires tended to lash out. With a growl, Severus clenched his hands in his hair turning around. “I am not some scared kitten. I am not some simpering, whimpering mess.”
“I know.”
“I am strong and capable of handling and protecting myself. I don’t need some seventeen year old boy to do it for me. I do not hide behind anyone.” He was pacing again.
“I know.”
“I am one of the Dark Lords Inner Circle and, damn it, I’m not proud of it, but I wouldn’t have gotten there by acting like this.” Severus whipped back around to glare at Edge. “I am not some coward.” He ground out between clenched teeth. His body felt hot with his magic roaring around him. No, he was not going to lose control, damn it.
“Of course you’re not.” Edge stated calmly. “You are a proud and brave man. No one would contest that. Not with what you do on a daily basis.” Edge took a few steps closer but stopped as he felt magic lash at him. Seemed Severus was really struggling with all of it right now. Edge knew that Severus was feeling like he was losing himself to something out of his control. He had felt the same way once. The bond was just protecting the man. “The bond is making the fear response in regards to other vampires, other Animalis, not everything else.” The best strategy would be to stay calm despite how he wanted to force the other to listen.
“Why?” Severus felt like he was going insane. He was trapped in a room with this other vampire, who stood between him and the door, blocking the only exit. His only choice would be fight and his magic was reacting as such. Logically, he knew Edge was just talking but the growl from earlier had set something off in him he couldn’t silence no matter how hard he tried. He felt a brush against his mind and forcibly pushed it away. There was too much at one time.
“It’s a protective measure.” Edge then moved from in front of the door and sat back into the chair. “I apologize. It was not my intention to set this off. Again. You may leave if you wish.” It was the only thing he could think of to help ease the stress Severus was under.
Severus paused and took in the room. The door was no longer blocked. The vampire had sat down, relaxed, not tense. Not ready to spring at a moments notice. Slowly he felt himself relax. His magic calmed but was still on the edge of his awareness, ready to come forth again if the need arose. Severus swallowed and settled weakly on the bed behind him.
“Protective measure?” His voice wobbled. Edge thankfully did not seem to notice. If he did, he made no comment. The presence brushed against him again. Go away. He reinforced his walls best he could. Thankfully, the brat took the hint.
“Yes. This bond is worse for Potentials; witches or wizards whose magical core is strong enough to accept and transition into another Animalis. Harry initiated and formed this bond with you as a way to protect you.”
“I can be turned into one of you.” Severus felt his temper flaring again. “Why was I not informed of this?” Another unbidden thought crossed his mind. “The brat is trying to turn me?”
Edge focused on the second question. “No. Not at all. The opposite actually.” Edge gave an ironic chuckle. “Potentials are funny and complicated. They are the best food source for us and yet the only ones that we can turn. Animalis are selfish when it comes to the Potentials and will not share thus a pair bond is typically formed.” He was simply reciting what Dante had told him the night before. Honestly, none of this really made sense to him. It almost felt as though Dante was keeping information from him. But why would he?
Severus narrowed his eyes in thought. “He has no wish to turn me.” He felt relieved and yet suspiciously troubled by the thought.
Edge shook his head. “Odds are he never will. Once the bond is formed the Potential is protected at all costs. As such, you will never be able to feed another Animalis. The risk is too great for you to do so. Harry will never allow it to happen. Not willingly anyway.” The last was said with a sad and bitter tone.
“So I’m to be his permanent blood bank?”
“Only until you die. Your natural lifespan will be extended somewhat but not eternally.” Edge shrugged. “He can feed on others as well, not just you.”
Severus stood and began to pace again. Just wonderful. Of course the brat would force a bond on him that would tie them together for the rest of their lives. Well, his life anyway.
“The bond cannot be forced.” Edge stated as though he had read Severus’ mind. He probably had the bastard. “Both parties must be willing as it is a sharing of magic as much as it is transference of blood.”
“I do not remember willingly entering into any bond with Potter.” Severus faced Edge with a glare. “If I remember right, I was coerced into giving him blood in the first place.”
Edge leaned forward. “The first time he fed directly from you, did he ask for your name?”
“What?”
Edge stared him down. “Did he ask for your name?”
Severus narrowed his eyes. He hesitated. “Yes.”
“Did you give it to him?”
“I…” Did he give Harry his name? It was foggy but possibly? “Maybe.”
Edge nodded. “You must have. He would have started tasting your magic afterwards as a test.” Edge stared him down again making Severus skin itch with the irrational need to hide. “When he feeds, does he share your blood with you?” He must have seen something on Severus’ face for he continued without waiting for a response. “I take it you have be accepting these offers? Been feeling a tingling sensation when he does? Noticed any magical flares when you two are together? The two of you have been sharing your magic with the other.”
Severus felt himself go pale and felt nauseous. “How can something like that happen unknowingly?” Was it truly unknown though? He could remember times where his magic had felt out of sorts before it would settle down again. Unwisely, he had simply pushed it aside as a change to being fed from. He would need to pay closer attention in the future.
Edge sat back taking the pressure off of Severus. “The magic is subtle and takes time to settle. Subconsciously, your magic knew what it was doing. I find magic is funny that way.”
Severus sat heavily on the bed with his hands buried in his hair, elbows on his knees. Everything was starting to make sense. All these changes had started taking place when Harry had started feeding on him. Edge was right; the changes were very subtle, starting off small and growing in their intensity. Was the bond the cause of all of it? The possessiveness was bond caused for sure, but was the protectiveness? The, dare he say, fondness? Were any of these feelings his own or due to some bond that he never intended to make? And with Potter of all people.
Edge sighed behind him. “Your feelings are your own. You have always had a protectiveness of Harry from what I can gather. You’ve protected him many times, even from himself, over the past few years. You have also gotten to know him from being in close quarters for months. That alone will cause its own changes.”
“Stay out of my mind.” There was no real bite to the words. Severus felt exhausted, physically and mentally.
“I don’t have to be in your mind, Severus. I’ve been where you are. I know the thoughts that are most likely going through your head.”
They were silent for a few moments. Edge lost in his own thoughts as he gave Severus time to process and think of any questions he would like to ask. Severus kept his eyes closed as he thought. A bond? What would this mean for him as a spy? Would he still be able to function as himself the stronger it got? Or would he lose himself as he is? What of Harry? Sure this kept him a steady supply of blood but what would happen to him should Severus die? Severus huffed at himself in his head. The brat would just have to find a new donor of course. There was nothing else he could do. It didn’t stop the flare of jealousy and hurt he felt rise in his gut. He was a Potential though right? That meant he could be changed, just that Harry wouldn’t do it. Hold on. Just what the fuck was he thinking? He had absolutely no desire to be changed now or at any time in the future. Besides, how would that help? Harry would still lose his source of life.
“As a Potential I could still be turned in theory, right?”
Severus watched as Edge stiffened at his words. “You could but I would not recommend it. Not outside the Pair Bond.”
Severus looked up and faced Edge more directly at the strange note in the vampires voice. “So Harry could turn me if he wanted?”
“Yes, I suppose. There have been cases where Pair Bonds have made the change but not many.” Edge heaved a deep sigh and ran a hand through his hair. The dark haired vampire looked tired and worn, very unlike his usual self. It made Severus once again question what he had missed. “Being turned outside the Pair Bond is… it’s painful.” Severus sat silent sensing that Edge needed to get his thoughts straight before continuing. “I’m sure you have been under Cruciatus.”
“Too many times.”
Edge gave a halfhearted smile. “I believe it.” The smile fell. “Now take that and times it by a hundred.”
Severus blanched. “What?”
“Changing outside of a Pair Bond destroys the bond.” Edge looked haunted. “It burns like molten lava has been injected in your veins. A normal transition will take roughly a week, give or take, and is painless. You mostly sleep while the magic does the work. This transition; however, can last up to a month, maybe longer. My transition was the longest month of my existence.”
Cruciatus times a hundred? For a month? Continuous? Severus shivered at the thought. “I take it not many survive?”
Edge shrugged. “No idea. I’m the only one I know of.”
“So you were part of a Pair Bond before?” Edge nodded solemnly. A sudden, sickening thought passed through Severus’ mind. “Your Sire is Dante. Did he…”
“No.” Edge growled. Severus flinched but stayed his ground, stamping down the urge to flee vehemently. “Dante did not force this on me. He was my Pair Bond. He would never…” Edge trailed off. “No, a rogue did it. The clans were at war at the time. I had been captured. The change was forced on me before Dante could get to me. It’s the reason I’m a leopard instead of a canine. Dante is of a canine line and the rogue was feline. The vampire blood is what determines our animal group.”
Severus looked down at the floor. There was much that he needed to sort through and process. He could not do that with people hovering over him. “I need to think.” He heard Edge stand and move the chair back to its original position at his desk. “Is your Sire still here?” He felt compelled to ask.
“Yes. Dumbledore has not allowed him to leave despite him wishing so. You do not need to worry. He has made his point and will bother you no longer.”
Severus scoffed and the vampire left his room. He couldn’t help but feel that Dante wasn’t quite done with him just yet. It burned in his gut and he learned long ago to trust that feeling. Damn, he needed a drink but fixing his tattered mental walls must come first. He focused on taking deep breaths.
It had only been a handful of minutes since Edge left his room that the presence returned. He felt a small nudge against the walls in his mind. Severus groaned but let them down enough to talk.
No, Potter, you cannot invade my space.
He could sense the boys disappointment but refused to give into it. There was too much for him to go through at the moment and he really needed to gets things sorted enough to put under lock and key before he got summoned by the Dark Lord again. Severus felt he was being strangled in a web with no way out.
At least tell me if you’re okay or not? Harry’s voice filtered through. It was soft and coasted through his mind a small breeze.
Severus sighed. I’m fine, brat. He felt Harry’s discomfort ease a little. For some reason it helped him relax a bit as well. He caved just a little bit. You can stay there but you must let me work in peace. Do not disturb my process.
The happiness he felt from the brat made warmth blossom in his chest and he shook his head. Harry was literally going to be the death of him if he wasn’t careful. Yet, he had already let the ruddy Gryffindor in this far, dare he let him go further? Severus found himself wanting to sink into the feeling, into the changes of the bond, but knew that would be dangerous for both of them. He could not afford to let his guard down, not now. They were so close. He had to watch himself. Severus must keep swimming or else they would all drown. He was not so certain that he would succeed.
