Title: A Godfather's duty

Summary: Lily's dead, Severus is in mourning. He contemplates what to do with the rest of his life when fate takes a hand.

Chapter 18
Ted had been furious at first, normally he didn't get angry but Andromeda had vanished with Dora for almost a month so she probably deserved it.
Dora had been sent to be with orders to stay there if she wanted to remain on vacation another day.
Ted had listened angrily while she explained and he had sagged with horror as she described the state she found the children in.
While he did not agree with her methods, Ted promised for the same of the children to treat them.
In exchange, Andromeda promised not to 'pull a stunt' like this again.
Last night Andromeda sent Lucius and Narcissa a letter requesting that Wisteria Meadows be turned into a home for the magical children that had been abused.
She also sent Sancus a letter asking him to use Lucius' money to pay for an anonymous charter plane to Jersey that would remove the children preferably one flown by a squib….
Andromeda would do her best to see that those children had a chance at a happy life…
Andromeda arrived at Malfoy Manor around breakfast time with Dora in toe, she had promised she wouldn't send her back to school quite yet so letting her play with Draco would be keeping her promise for the moment anyway.
Narcissa looked pale but recently well-rested as did Lucius/.
"Why are you here Annie?" Narcissa asked coolly.
"Did you receive my letter?" Andromeda asked with a raised eyebrow.
Narcissa glared, "Yes but I didn't open it. I wanted a peaceful day with my family, the war is mostly over and I want the peace that Lucius became a spy to create."
"Narcissa! I understand completely, unfortunately there are thirty children in need of a safe home most of whom are traumatised witches and wizards! I need to know if you'll grant them sanctuary at Wisteria."
Narcissa flinched at the icy tone, "Fine! I just want this to go away."
Andromeda sighed, "You've seen how Severus' own childhood still affects him, I doubt it will ever go away. Lucius saw terrible things and he'll have to have sessions with Ted to deal with them. You can't just hide your head about it, that's what killed mother and we both know it."
"I know I can't just pretend nothing bad every happens, I just want to give Draco a safe home and a family." Her baby sister whispered looking very chastised.
"Then you need to have elves prepare Wisteria for inhabitants, it's stood empty since father died. I'll have to help with moving the children and Lucius needs to tell Sancus he has no trouble paying for a Muggle plane to remove the children from that horrible place."
Lucius called for ink and parchment on which he wrote the permission and ordered it delivered to his cousin.
Satisfied, Andromeda agreed to be removed to Wisteria and left Dora to spend time with her cousin.

They had summoned the pack after Andromeda left with Harry for the children's protection.
Ian had returned the top floor of the horrific orphanage to its original state once the pack arrived.
It helped that Damocles' the mate of the pack's Alpha was also a healer even if he spent more time helping lycans then full humans.
David and Niles were practically orphans themselves; using Muggle money from both Emelia and Kingsley they were sent buy new clothes in various sizes for all of the children first thing that morning.
The Muggle World was easier because they weren't recognised for what they were.
One pack member remained in each room as a guard but they left after David and Niles delivered the clothes and plenty of food.
The pack was sensitive to the children's fear.
Hit Wizard Emelia Bones had contacted Sancus Malfoy who had chartered a plane with a squib pilot at Andromeda's request and on Lucius Malfoy's galleon to remove these children.
While it wasn't necessarily wise, the plane would be landing on the orphanage's property and the children were all going to be moved.
Once the children were dressed, a few of the pack's mates had breakfast made and the pack guardians nudged the children downstairs.
The children were surprised to see all of the food on the long tables.
Many of the pack had attended Hogwarts with the exception of their Alpha and those who had been there thought that the tables looked more like Hogwarts and comforting rather then foreboding.
"Why are you being nice to us? Who are you people?" a girl asked in a shaking voice.
"Because those people are never going to hurt you again."
The pack turned to see Andromeda Tonks nee Black had spoken.
"They are going away forever and they can never hurt you. You can't trust any of us yet, we know that but we're going to take you somewhere safe. Somewhere where you will be free to be kids, where you can run around safely and know that no one is going to hurt you again. When you feel strong enough, we'll try to find you real families. So of you have special gifts that you were punished for having, you'll never be punished for that again. You'll have teachers who will teach you how to use them safely. Many of the adults here are investigators, they were looking for a little boy who was stolen from his family and they found all of you. They couldn't leave you behind so we're going to help you get better. You'll never miss a meal again, this is the first good meal you'll have."
"Go ahead," Emelia nodded, "Go ahead and eat. No one is going to take it from you."
The children immediately began to delve into the food.
The babies had already been moved to Lukos House where they were being looked after by their Alpha who had some experience with babies.
The pack and Emelia Bones had remained while Kingsley Shacklebolt had vanished likely to do something about this situation.
The pack would look after the children until others were brought it.

Cora and Harry talking to one another woke Severus and Remus up but not all of it was understandable.
They changed the babies and dressing them, Harry still had a nasty rash that Remus used some of Cora's diaper rash treating potion on.
While Harry would need proper clothes and Cora would need some new ones due to her clothes getting smaller.
Once they were all dressed for the day, they headed down to the dining room where Lolly had breakfast waiting for all of them.
It would take time to get used to taking care of Harry and Coraline, especially with Severus' twins on the way.
In a few days they would invite Ted to use his Mind healer training to see what Harry had suffered but for now helping Harry feel safe came first…

A/N [for those who have likewise forgotten due my horrible history of updating] - In this story Lily was carrying twins, she gave birth to Coraline 'Cora' Dorena Potter on July 30th (A few hours after Neville was born) and Herodotus 'Harry' James Potter on July 31 (just after midnight?). To protect her elder child, within moments of Harry's birth Remus was asked to blood adopt Cora and take her into hiding, Andromeda and James were her godparents. Harry stayed with Lily and James, neither of his godparents Sirius or Severus knew anything about her until after Lily and James were killed. Remus left right after the blood adoption and the Wiccaning.
Due to the combined efforts of Remus' pack as well as Lucius and Kingsley, Harry was rescued before the beginning of December. He was gone about three weeks in total...because i've dithered about long enough and I didn't want to make him suffer too badly.
There will be a time skip coming up, but it maybe in an epilogue. Any thoughts? Do you want to skip to an older Harry and see what his life is like? How far should I skip ahead? Do you want a sequel or a continuation?
