Sirius looked amazing. Hermione couldn’t remember him being as tall as he appeared now, his once too long black curls were cut short now though his bangs were long it seemed to fit him with a devil may care look. His shoulders were broad and she could see muscles on him, his smile was still cocky but for once she felt he had something to be cocky about and he looked tanned and healthy. He hugged her tightly and swung her around making her giggle and hug him tighter. He held her at arms-length and just looked at her shaking his head slowly as if trying to figure something out.
“Wow Hermione” He smiled “You look amazing…I mean, damn”
“You look amazing” She exclaimed excitedly “Damn. What happened to you, where have you been and why have you been gone so long?!”
“I have so many stories” He laughed and hugged her again tucking her in to his chest “Wrap those beautiful legs around me and show me to your rooms and I will regale you with my stories over tea and cakes”
Without knowing that Severus was watching from the shade of the trees in the forest Hermione wrapped her legs around Sirius’s middle and they disappeared in to the castle. Remus was swearing under his breath but Severus merely nodded to himself before walking off towards the castle and in to the Great Hall for breakfast. Remus was more worried about the Potion Masters silence than if he’d been angry. He would have to make sure that he didn’t do anything too rash or scare Hermione off with his shitty attitude.
“Severus…” He started when they sat down and couldn’t help the flinch when the other man moved his hand quickly towards his juice “She’s just happy…”
“It doesn’t matter” Severus said quickly and quietly “She’s allowed to have friends”

Hermione and Sirius had just finished their shared breakfast and he was theatrically retelling a story about some natives he had to fight in the Amazon and then about some beautiful, red-eyed vampires that had helped him. He of course had to regale her with stories about how the women just fawned all over him which she only slightly believed. He told her about the city life of New York City, the romance of Paris (which she knew) the Hawaiian sunsets, the Japanese foods. He showed her pictures he’d taken from mountain tops around the world, the people that touched his life along the way. He told her the stories all through lunch and finally, while the walked down the hallway it was coming to an end and he was looking at her.
“Where are all the students?” He asked.
“Don’t you pay attention to the calendar?” She laughed “Christmas Holiday began today, the students left around ten while we were chatting in my sitting room”
“Okay” He stopped her walking and looked at her “I came home for a reason, Hermione”
“Oh?” She said “And what was that?” They were standing in an area with lots of alcoves and she didn’t know that Remus and Snape had been walking behind them and were now hiding. Severus didn’t want to see Black yet because he wasn’t sure he could keep a hold on his anger yet and Remus wasn’t ready to see Sirius yet. They chose to hide rather than be seen, but now they were in the front row to hear their private conversation.
“I heard about that stupid law they passed” He said and she frowned.
“Oh yeah” She kicked at some dust “That”
“I came back to marry you” He said “I know that we’ve had our issues and some problems in the past but I know you. I know your thoughts, feelings and everything that makes you the crazy, smart and brave Gryffindor that everyone who meets you learns to love”
“But Sirius” She put her hand on his arm to stop his talking “You don’t understand…I’m already engaged”
“To who and how did it come to happen?” He asked.
“To Severus Snape” She answered “He got my name from the Ministry and we talked for a little over a month, went on a few dates and decided that it would be best to marry one another as opposed to someone that the Ministry would choose for us”
“Do you hear yourself?” He asked moving closer to her “Forget that you just said that you were engaged to that slimy, unwashed git Severus Snape” He made a face “But the fact that you are allowing the ministry of magic, the morons that nearly cost us the war, to pick who you spend the rest of your life with”
“If it doesn’t work out we can divorce in five years I think it is” She told him.
“So you don’t mind the fact that you could very well be a divorcee with a child at age twenty-five?” He asked and she felt her heart pound, she had never looked at it like that before.
“But…” She looked around a little lost “Severus has been perfect, we are learning about each other…and he’s been perfectly sweet. On Halloween he set up a whole dance where everyone dressed up and then a muggle haunted house that everyone loved and learned from!”
“A few good deeds doesn’t make him a good person, Hermione” He said, he stared at her for a minute and then took a deep breath “Come on, Hermione. Picture us out there in the world, no kids, no jobs just moving wherever we wanted too and whenever we wanted to” She gave a reluctant smile “Going to long forgotten magical libraries, learning everything we can and just have fun” She looked dreamy “Imagine seeing volcanoes up close, skinny dipping in private hot springs, making love under the sky in different parts of the worlds with no responsibilities”
“Oh Sirius” She said sounding dreamy like her head was no longer on her shoulders but in the clouds visiting the places he’d just brilliantly painted “But I can’t…”
“Yes, you can” He whispered excitedly.
“Severus has been so good to me” She said “You don’t understand…”
“I understand that he is using the law to finally get the girl” Sirius said angrily “He tried numerous times to force Lily in to a relationship and he succeeded this time with you”
“The law…” She said.
“They aren’t watching your every move” He pointed out “You have your own set of rooms it would be simple to just pack up and leave Hogwarts, Hogsmead, London and everyone behind” There was the sound of a quick, stolen kiss and then “Don’t answer now, think about it and realize that what I offer is truly amazing and that you want it and then tell me your answer”
Sirius walked off muttering something about having to go get a drink in town. Hermione leaned against the cold stone wall with thoughts of faraway beaches, hot springs, forgotten libraries and the sort filling her mind. She smiled softly to herself and let out a sigh as she imagined herself doing all that he had done. She let out a giggle and started to walk to the other side of the hallway and look out the window to where she could see him running through the snow towards the gate. She was at war with herself, she made a promise to Severus and most likely she would keep it but what an amazing thought it was to be so free.
“Don’t even think about it” She heard and turned to see Tonks coming towards her with a blanket wrapped around her thin frame and breathing heavily.
“Tonks” She said “What are you doing out of your dorm?” She took her hands and helped her lean against the hall “If you wanted a visitor I would have come by…”
“I heard that Sirius was here” She answered breathless from her walk and the exercise “I knew what he was going to try to do and I needed to get to you before you made a mistake”
“Tonks” She whispered “You aren’t making any sense”
“I may be dying but don’t talk to me like I’m stupid!” She snapped “Hermione, Sirius is lonely and he is a dog. He would have you follow him to the ends of the world and back just to do it again because he doesn’t want to be alone but he wouldn’t be faithful you know that”
“How do you know that?” She asked, confused.
“Because I almost fell for it too” She looked upset and leaned heavily on the wall “I wanted adventure not to be tied down with a baby. He promised everything that I wanted and thought that I needed and I fell for it, I was ready to leave Remus with Teddy in a heartbeat I even…I even had sex with Sirius but Remus doesn’t know that” Hermione, who always felt very protective of Remus, glared at her for what she admitted.
“He suspected I was ready to stray” She went on “And we fought, I almost left and then I realized that I would be leaving behind everything that I loved not just my mother or Remus or my son but my friends and those who care for me…I decided not to go and you need to know that too”
“You’re being a little judgmental” Hermione said “I never said anything about wanting to leave and go off for adventures with Sirius. I know he’s a dog and I am quite happy with Severus and how my life is starting to pan out”
“But…” She said “You were…”
“You don’t know what I was thinking about and I’ll thank you to not assume I am like you at all” Hermione knew that she was being rude to a woman who, up until a few moments ago, had been really good to her but she was angry now because she didn’t want someone to assume they knew what was going through her head “Because I am not”
“Well excuse me, Miss Priss” Tonks sneered getting her strength back and glaring at her “I was trying to be helpful with something that I knew first hand but you’re taking it to heart”
“I don’t like people just assuming because I am young that I don’t know what the hell I am doing with my life!” Hermione snapped “First Sirius and now you, I don’t need it!”
“Well fine, Princess” Tonks stood and glared at her searching for something hurtful to say “The last Christmas before Remus and I got married I gave Severus a blow job!” Remus shrugged when Snape started to mime out that it didn’t mean anything, Remus indicated that it didn’t really matter.
“I don’t care” Hermione lied though she was outraged to know that he would her put her lips anywhere on him.
“Whatever helps you sleep at night, sweetie” Tonks sneered and started to walk away clearly happy she won that round. Hermione saw red, how dare she speak to her like that!
“Hey Tonks” Hermione said with her usually light brown eyes hard as stone as she looked at the woman before her “Last Christmas…”
“Oh shit” Remus hissed but Snape slapped his hand over his mouth.
“I fucked Remus” Hermione finished with a smile “Four times that night and once in the morning…but I’m just a little girl that can’t figure out my own path in the world, right?”
Tonks didn’t say anything as her hurt-filled eyes looked at Hermione’s hateful ones. She knew that she more or less brought it on herself but that didn’t mean it didn’t hurt. She thought that Remus had been with someone else during that time and she had been okay with it but knowing that it was Hermione made it worse. Instead of answering her she turned and walked blindly back to her room where she laid down and cried herself to sleep. Hermione leaned against the wall and took a deep breath and held it until her head felt dizzy and only then did she let it out and opened her eyes to find Remus standing in front of her.
“I’m not that upset with you telling her we had sex” He said “But did you have to tell her how many times?”
“I’m sorry” She whispered as he stormed away. She lifted her eyes and found Severus standing there watching her closely.
“I told Lily that I was in love with her in the summer before our fourth year” He started and she looked at him surprised because he never spoke of Lily “She laughed at me and told me it was because I hadn’t found a nice girl from my own house” He looked down “I tried to show her that I really did adore her but it never took. I tried numerous times that year and all throughout our fifth year to show her how I really felt about her but she refused to see it” He looked down “And then that horrible day when I called her a ‘mudblood’. I didn’t mean to say it, it just popped out but that was all she needed to use against me” Hermione moved closer to him and put her head against his chest “I tried to apologize to her but she kept pushing me away and then in our sixth year she started to date Potter and wouldn’t even look at me without acting like I was the scum of the earth”
“I’m sorry” She whispered.
“If you want to leave, Hermione” He told her “Then go, I won’t stop you. Not because I don’t…love you but because I think I love you enough to let you be happy…it was something I hadn’t been able to do with Lily”
“I really do want to do something crazy, Severus” She told him and he nodded and started to let go of her but she put her hands on his arms “I have my wedding gown, I know what I want to say…let’s get married”
“We are…” He started and saw her look for the right words “Let’s get married on Saturday”
“Saturday?” He looked shocked “Are you sure?”
“No time like the present right” She smiled “And I love you enough to stay and be happy…are you that in love?”
“I’m in love enough to get married on Saturday” He smiled “Let’s do it!”
A/N: A WEDDING IS HAPPENING!! Please review!!!! Hope this isn’t moving too fast…Sorry about her fighting with Tonks but I have a horrible anti-Tonks moment. In my first attempt I actually had her die so I saved that from happening LOL. Giggle, Giggle to my little shout out to Twilight!!
