Chapter summary:
There was exactly one thing he could do to ensure Harry’s safety and both their peace of mind. The uncertainty and severity of the reaction he knew he would likely receive was excruciating to imagine.

“I’m hooooot,” Harry complained for the umpteenth time that day. He shifted restlessly in his seat on the wicker couch of the sunroom before flipping the page of his quidditch magazine.
Lucius looked at Harry over the top of The Daily Prophet he was reading. “I’m sorry, Pet,” he said caringly. “Is there anything I can do?”
“Put out the sun,” the eighteen-year-old whined and dropped the glossy, but more importantly chilly periodical over his face.
“That’s seems a tad unnecessary,” the blonde man said with a small smile. “It’s maybe sixty degrees outside.”
Harry hauled himself up from the couch. “I am sweltering,” he whined and pulled the thin robe he was wearing over his head, leaving himself naked and exposing his large, swollen belly.
Lucius sighed and folded up his newspaper. “How about a nice, cool bath, then?” he suggested.
“With you?” Harry chirped hopefully.
The man dropped the paper onto the end table next to him and rose from his seat. “Of course, with me,” he replied and took his Pet by the hand to lead him to his bathroom upstairs.
At the tub, Lucius turned on the taps; warm enough that he wouldn’t be uncomfortable, but still plenty cool enough to soothe the pregnant, young man.
“How does that feel?” Lucius asked as the tub filled.
Harry silently requested a hand steadying himself so he could dip a foot in the tub without falling as he was too big to bend that far over. “That’s nice,” he answered with a contented sigh.
“Good,” Lucius said as he began divesting himself of his clothing.
Once naked, the blonde man sank into the tub. Harry followed him and settled between his legs, leaning back against his broad chest.
“That is soooo much better,” Harry breathed as the cold water soothed him.
“I’m glad, Pet,” Lucius said as he caressed the taut skin of Harry’s belly.
Harry hummed happily at the action. “I’m so ready to be done with this,” he said as he laid his hands over Lucius’.
“It certainly seems so,” Lucius noted and kissed Harry’s exposed shoulder before moving up his neck. A dark head of hair tilted to the side, giving the master better access. “Can you turn off the water?” he interrupted his own actions once the tub was sufficiently filled.
Harry attempted to reach the taps, but between his baby bump and the length of his arms, he couldn’t. “No. No, I cannot,” he pouted as he slumped back.
“No matter.” With a wave of his hand and a bit of minor, wandless magic, the water turned off. He then went back to applying kisses to the side of the throat in front of him. “I want you, Pet,” he purred against the flesh.
“You always want me,” Harry breathily responded with a wiggle against the erection he could feel pressed against his arse.
Lucius reached below the waterline and his Pet’s waist to grasp his growing hard-on. “Mmmm, can you blame me?”
“Not really,” Harry replied and then cheekily added, “I am gorgeous.”
“Indeed you are,” the blonde man concurred and began lightly stroking the manhood in his hand.
Harry’s eyes fluttered shut and his head dropped back against a pale shoulder at the stimulation. “Lucius,” he moaned softly. The hand pleasuring him sped up a little and he tried to thrust up into it.
Suddenly, the green-eyed boy stopped the hand and turned in Lucius’ embrace as quickly as his pregnant state would allow; which, admittedly, wasn’t all that fast. Straddling him, he wrapped his arms around his master’s neck and kissed him forcefully while bringing their lower regions together.
Lucius’ hands found their way to Harry’s hips and gripped him with nearly bruising force; encouraging his movements.
“So, this is… what we’re doing… today,” Lucius panted when they pulled apart for air.
Harry nodded and buried his face at the junction of Lucius’ neck and shoulder as he continued to frot against his master.
“Harry!” Lucius groaned at the wonderful feeling of their cocks sliding together. The dark-haired teen’s thrusting quickly became erratic and a moment later, he stiffened and moaned as he came against the other man’s groin.
Sensing the other had yet to finish, Harry reached between their bodies and took ahold of Lucius’ cock. It only took a few pulls for the man to grunt his own release.
Suddenly, but expectedly, tired, Harry collapsed forward onto his master. The blonde man’s arms wrapped around him and held him tightly.
“We should get out soon, Pet,” Lucius suggested some time later to a seemingly unconscious Harry.
“Yeah… probably,” the teen sleepily agreed. The pair climbed out of the tub, Lucius helping Harry to stand. “I think I’m ready for a nap,” Harry yawned widely as he was handed a fluffy, white towel.
“Go ahead,” Lucius responded as he began to pat himself dry. “I have some work to do in my study.”
~!~
“Harry. Harry wake up,” a soft, caring voice called. The Pet in question stirred and blinked his eyes open. It was still dark. What time was it and why was his precious sleep being interrupted?
“What is it?” Harry blearily asked. He rolled over and could just barely make out the frown marring his master’s face in the darkness.
“I think… you may have wet the bed,” Lucius carefully uttered, not wanting to embarrass his Pet.
Eyes widening, Harry suddenly jerked upright as he became aware of a few different sensations and was forced into full consciousness. His hands flew to his stomach as pain shot through it. “I don’t think I peed,” he urgently corrected the older man.
“The baby?” Lucius gasped. “It’s not time yet.”
“Apparently, it is.”
Lucius leapt from the bed and rushed to dress himself. Harry followed, though at a much slower pace.
Once they were both clothed, Lucius picked up the bag they had already packed and together they made their way to the entrance hall where they would floo to the hospital. They couldn’t apparate as it was too dangerous during Harry’s late stage of pregnancy. Splinched fetuses were not a fun thing; they can’t survive it.
Harry went through the fire first, then Lucius; ensuring he gave his Pet enough time to move out of the way at the other end. The pair then approached the witch behind the receptionist counter.
“My Pet is in labor,” Lucius hastily announced.
“Sixth floor, maternity ward,” the woman droned uninterestedly without bothering to look up.
Lucius took Harry by the hand and led him to the elevator. Once in the lift, the blonde man finally realized his Pet was shaking.
“Are you alright?” he asked and laid a comforting hand on the teen’s lower back.
“I’m sc-scared,” the boy stuttered for the first time in months.
Lucius fully and snugly embraced him. “Of what, Harry?”
“That the b-baby isn’t yours,” he all but cried against his master’s chest.
“Shhh,” Lucius whispered. “Don’t think about that right now. You have other things to worry about.”
At that moment, the elevator dinged; signaling their arrival at the desired floor. They stepped out and walked up to a desk across the hall. The Healer there quickly finished writing in a file before looking up at them.
“Good morning,” she said brightly. “Checking in?”
“Yes, my Pet here is in labor,” Lucius briefly explained.
“Name?” she briskly asked.
“Malfoy, Harry,” the blonde replied.
The Healer, whose pale pink robes indicated she was of junior status, turned to one of the many filing cabinets behind her. She opened the drawer marked ‘M’ and flipped through the folders within.
“Malfoy. Malfoy. Malfoy comma Harry,” the witch loudly muttered to herself. “Here it is. Harry Malfoy, age eighteen, birthday July thirty-first, nineteen-eighty. Owned by one Lucius Malfoy.” She read from the file.
“That is correct,” the aforementioned man said with a nod.
“It looks like you’re a couple weeks earlier than expected, but since everything else I’m reading looks fine, that shouldn’t be an issue,” she quickly reassured them. “Though there is a note here indicating a mandatory DNA test for paternity immediately following the birth,” the Healer added as she continued to look over the file.
“Yes, unfortunately,” the man stiffly replied.
“I see,” she said with a soft, nonjudgmental tone and shut the folder. “Let’s find you a room and then I’ll alert your maternity Healer that you’ve arrived.”
“Thank you,” Lucius said as the woman started down the hall. She led them to a dark, empty room and waved her wand to light it up as they entered.
“Here we are,” she happily announced as she crossed the room to a tall cabinet. From within she pulled out a blue hospital gown and handed it to the pregnant boy. “I’ll leave you alone so you can get changed.” With that, she was gone.
Half an hour passed before Harry’s maternity Healer, Healer Janus, finally arrived.
“Hello, Mr. Malfoy,” she greeted the man with a shake of his hand. “Harry.” She smiled brightly, if not a little sleepily, at the teen in the hospital bed. “How are we feeling this early morning?”
“Restless. Nervous,” Harry replied.
“That’s understandable. How are your contractions?” she then asked as she picked up his chart.
At that moment, Harry winced and placed a hand on his distended belly. “They’re getting stronger… and closer together… fast,” he brokenly answered.
“That’s normal. Wizard labor does tend to progress much more quickly than witch’s. I’d like to check your cervix now, Harry.” The Healer then proceeded to examine his temporary birth canal.
“Good. Good. You’re over 4cm dilated already. We’ll check again in an hour or so, unless otherwise needed. Until then, is there anything you need?”
“Could I maybe get some water?” the very young man asked.
The witch smiled. “Of course, Harry. I’ll have that brought to you as quickly as possible.”
Three hours later, the rays of early morning sun were streaming through the window and Harry was pushing with all his might. One hand was gripping the edge of his bed and the other was currently crushing the right hand of his master.
Finally, the contraction ended and he was told to relax.
“Almost there, Harry,” the Healer said encouragingly. “Just one more big push should do it.”
“I can’t. I can’t,” the teen panted as he fell back against the tilted bed. “It’s too much.”
“Shhh. Of course, you can, Harry,” Lucius soothed and pushed his sweaty fringe off of his face. He kissed the back of a hand and continued petting his hair. “You’re almost done.”
Harry vigorously shook his head. “I don’t want to,” he sobbed for more reasons than one. He didn’t want to face the worst of possible truths.
“Look at me,” the blonde man gently requested. The tightly closed, emerald eyes remained that way. He decided a different tactic was necessary and calmly, but firmly, commanded, “look at me, Pet.”
Instinctively, Harry snapped to attention.
“You will deliver this baby, Harry, because you can. You’ve been through so much; this should be easy. Understand?” Lucius asked at the end of his short speech.
Harry nodded as he felt the pressure of another contraction hitting him.
“Alright, Harry, push for me. Just once more,” Healer Janus instructed hopefully. The dark-haired boy screamed as he did as he was told and after a small eternity, he finally felt something give. A moment passed and the cries of a newborn filled the air.
“Congratulations, it’s a healthy, baby boy,” the Healer happily announced. “Would you like to hold him, Harry?”
Shaking nervously, Harry glanced up at Lucius.
“It’s understandable if you don’t want to yet, Harry,” the man said softly as he brushed a lock of damp hair behind his ear.
Harry looked at the woman holding his child; still connected to him by birth cord. “Not until after the test,” he insisted.
Twenty minutes passed and Harry was resting comfortably after delivering the afterbirth. Now, they were just anxiously awaiting the results of the paternity test.
“Wh-what do you think I should do… if he’s not yours?” Harry nervously asked his master’s advice.
Lucius sighed heavily and leaned forward in his seat. “Honestly, I wouldn’t have risked him being Draco’s to begin with, but I know why you couldn’t do that, Harry, and it wasn’t my choice to make,” he gently explained.
“I wouldn’t want him to end up as a Pet.” Harry stated fiercely. “But I wouldn’t want him to go to… HIM either, though. Even if I thought he could take care of a child, I don’t think he would treat him well just because he came from me.”
“As unfortunate as it is, I’m inclined to agree with you. At this point, at least, Draco would be a terrible father,” Lucius acknowledged.
A soft knock at the door caught the attention of both men. Healer Janus was standing there with a folder in hand. “I have the results of the test,” she somberly announced as she walked into the room. “I haven’t looked yet. I thought we’d find out together.”
Harry reached a hand out for Lucius. The man took it in both of his own and squeezed it reassuringly. The witch opened the folder and perused the piece of parchment within.
“Mr. Malfoy… Lucius, you are the father of Harry’s baby.”
Harry released a single, piercing sob and dropped his head into his free hand. He felt an insurmountable weight lift from his shoulders as he cried freely.
Lucius moved one of his hands to Harry’s shoulder. “What’s wrong, Pet?” he caringly asked.
The dark-haired teen looked up, tears continuing to silently stream down his cheeks. “I’m relieved,” he whispered hoarsely, a small, wet smile gracing his lips. “And happy.”
“Me too,” Lucius responded with his own smile and caressed his Pet’s damp cheek. The sound of a clearing throat interrupted the men’s tender moment.
“I don’t mean to intrude, but I must remind you that a copy of this is about to be sent to the ministry,” Maternity Healer Janus stated.
The blonde man slowly looked up from Harry’s face. “I understand,” he painfully accepted his fate.
“It’ll be a good few hours before aurors arrive; as it’s not a violent crime,” the witch explained. “I suggest you use that time wisely.” She then turned and left the room.
Lucius returned his attention to Harry. “You should sleep now, Pet,” he recommended. “You’ll need your strength for our son.”
Harry shook his head. “I can’t sleep. Not… not now,” he sniffled, stifling a sob.
“Then rest, at least?” the man nearly begged.
“Only if you lay down with me,” the emotional young man demanded, holding back more tears.
“Of course, Harry,” Lucius replied with a sad smile. The Pet slid over in his bed to make space for the larger man; who climbed in and lay on his side facing him. Harry mirrored him and snuggled into his arms.
“Have you thought about names at all?” Lucius asked, trying to fill the silence.
The boy tilted his head back so he could look at him. “Only a little bit,” he warbled.
“Care to share?”
“Well, I know my dad’s name was James. So, I was thinking about that; at least for a boy’s middle name,” Harry explained softly.
“I could agree with James,” Lucius said just as gently. “Anything else?”
Harry shrugged. “I didn’t think about it much since… since I didn’t know if I’d be raising him or not,” he said with a morose sigh.
“That’s okay, Pet,” the man said as he began running his hand up and down Harry’s back. “You have plenty of time.”
Harry nodded, blinked back a few more tears, and rested his head on his master’s chest.
Lucius continued to comfort the exhausted, young man who had just birthed their child; until his breathing eventually evened out and he’d obviously succumbed to sleep, fitful though it was. Only then did he allow his own pent up, conflicting emotions to be released in a moment of silent tears.
Joy that he was the father. Relief that he hadn’t just spent the last seven months preparing for what otherwise would have been his grandson, as well as Harry not having to endure that further trauma himself. Sadness over being separated for the next six months. Everything he was sure the younger man was also going through. But there was more; one thing Lucius hadn’t yet told the Pet in his arms about the situation. One he knew would have caused an egregiously unhealthy amount of stress and due to it being not just possible, but likely, the child would turn out to be his; the man had chosen to leave Harry in the dark until it became ABSOLUTELY relevant.
Lucius was also afraid. Scratch that. Lucius was terrified. Similar to children’s custody cases, the ministry preferred Pets to be put into the care of the master’s closest living, hopefully by blood, relative. And because of the temporarity, it would be exactly like the short time Aster had stayed with them: Draco would be Lucius-by-proxy. It didn’t matter that he’d been disowned. It didn’t matter that they no longer shared a name. Short of remarrying, something he had no intention of ever doing, or his firstborn’s untimely demise, Draco would always be his closest living relative.
Yes, sure; as a master, Draco would be bound by law to follow the rules and, of course, there would be full consequences if he were to harm the baby, but that didn’t mean he had to be nice to HARRY. That didn’t mean he had to treat him well. He can’t abuse Harry; but he CAN use him. And even though, once upon a time, his son had known how to, at least, toe the line; Lucius didn’t trust him not to cross it anymore.
There was exactly ONE thing he could do to ensure Harry’s safety and both their peace of mind but in all honesty, it was the part Lucius was probably dreading the most. The uncertainty and severity of the reaction he knew he would likely receive was excruciating to imagine. He was going to give his Pet a little more time to sleep, though, before waking him and letting him know the decision he’d made. And then, if there was still time, maybe they’d get to spend a minute together with their son.
Before getting to that though, Lucius desperately needed to empty his bladder. He’d had to pee since he was sitting in his own seat, but not badly enough to leave Harry alone at the moment. Now that the drained teen was asleep, it was becoming a rather pressing issue. So, he quickly and carefully extricated from the embrace and went to relieve himself in the adjoining bathroom.
Lucius hastily washed and dried his hands once his task was complete. He then looked up at his reflection to regard the very unfamiliar and rattled expression he found in the mirror.
With one final, shaky breath, he turned and opened the door to step back into Harry’s room only to find two unknown wizards standing alongside Healer Janus almost directly on the other side of it. And just like that, he’d run out of time. That had definitely not been “a good few hours”.
One of the men held a finger to his lips to keep Lucius silent before he could react and motioned for them all to step into the hallway. Begrudgingly, he followed.
The moment the door snapped shut behind them, the blonde worriedly questioned, “shouldn’t we wake him?”
The two aurors shared a look before the same one who’d silenced him replied, “Pets can often make a scene when this happens and given what he’s resting from… it’s just generally better this way.”
Lucius sighed heavily but chose not to argue. “Let’s get on with it then,” he muttered defeatedly.
~!~
Harry found himself unexpectedly jerking awake. He rubbed the sleep from his eyes as he sat up in the hospital bed. Lowering his hands, he glanced around the room and immediately noticed he was alone. Panic instantly gripped him.
Throwing his blanket off, Harry jumped up from the bed and rushed into the hallway. He saw the familiar blonde head of his master nearly at the far corner and he took off at a run, ignoring any protests his body might have had.
“Wait!” Harry wailed as he neared Lucius, who was flanked by two unfamiliar wizards.
Recognizing his Pet’s voice, the man halted and turned on the spot. Harry slammed into him; sobbing as he tightly wrapped his arms around the larger torso.
Lucius attempted to return the gesture, but his hands were currently cuffed behind his back. “Please, don’t cry, Harry,” he tried to soothe him. “Six months isn’t very long.”
The black-haired boy looked up at the men who were in the process of arresting his master. “You c-can’t t-take him,” he sobbed.
“I’m sorry, young man, but the law is the law. Your master broke the rules and must suffer the consequences,” one of the aurors gruffly explained.
“He n-needs me,” Harry brokenly stated as he tightened his hold. None was more surprised than Lucius by the declaration that was the exact opposite of what would have been expected.
Without looking up from the dark head of hair on his chest, the cuffed man pleaded, “can I, please, just have a few minutes with him?”
Neither auror seemed too pleased by the extension of their stay. “We’re already on our way out and we were trying to avoid making a scene,” the same stern wizard replied.
“That was when he was asleep and didn’t know what was happening yet,” the blonde desperately reasoned. “You can’t expect me walk away without a word, NOW.”
“Alright,” the other auror began. “We’ll give you a minute to say goodbye, but then we need to take you in.”
Lucius immediately attempted to embrace Harry again. He huffed in frustration before politely making a second request. “Might I have the use of my hands, just for a few seconds?”
The two aurors looked at each other for a long moment. “We can cuff you in the front, but that’s it,” the first one finally said before following through on his words.
“Harry…” Lucius began once he’d been re-bound; not entirely sure what he could possibly say to calm his distraught Pet. He caressed a red, puffy cheek. “Turn around for me and lift your hair off your neck,” he unexpectedly ordered.
Confused, Harry did as he was asked. He felt the man fiddle with his collar for a moment before the piece of leather fell away from him and landed unceremoniously on the floor. Emerald eyes beheld the object for a heartbeat.
“What… what’re you doing?” Harry asked as he turned back around, turning wide, wet, and vulnerable eyes up at the older man.
“I’m releasing you,” Lucius gently explained. “You’re no longer Lucius Malfoy’s Pet; Harry. You’re just Harry Malfoy.”
“B-but… but…” the tormented boy stuttered.
Lucius gently took Harry’s chin in hand. “But what?”
Harry released a small sob and cast his gaze downward. “I thought you loved me,” he ultimately whispered.
“Look at me, Pe- Harry,” the silver-eyed man quietly requested; tilting the boy’s head back until they were making eye contact again. “It is because I love you that I’m doing this. If I don’t, you’ll be put in Draco’s care as he is my closet, living blood relative, regardless of the fact that I disowned him.
“Part of…” He paused to take a deep breath and calm his own emotions while jade eyes widened in fear at the thought of being the younger blonde’s Pet. “Part of me had hoped the baby was his just so none of this would be necessary. But I am not taking THAT risk; not for six hours, let alone months.”
“Well, that’s good enough for me,” one of the aurors suddenly interrupted, inexplicably pleased.
Both Lucius and Harry turned their attention to the man who spoke.
“Good enough for what?” Lucius asked, visibly confused. The other auror abruptly uncuffed him. “You’re not arresting me?”
“No, we’re not,” the auror who taken the restraints piped up.
Lucius’ silver eyes narrowed in both suspicion and confusion. “Why?”
“We like to keep this exceptionally quiet, otherwise every master would try to get out of trouble this way, but there is actually a stipulation in the law. If master and Pet prove genuine love for each other we can choose to release them. And obviously, we can’t make it easy for you.
“It uh… it doesn’t happen often. This is actually a first for me,” one of the men cheerfully explained.
“Yeah, same here,” the other one happily chimed in.
At that moment, Healer Janus came rushing up to the small group; a little out of breath. “Good, you’re still here,” she said; worriedly looking at the aurors, specifically. “We have a problem.”
“What is it, ma’am?” the first auror asked, instantly becoming more serious.
The witch looked between Lucius and Harry for a moment. “The two of you might want to sit down for this,” she suggested.
“Is something wrong with the baby?”
“Is the baby sick?” the new parents spoke over each other; demanding answers now as the look on Healer Janus’ face was concerning, to say the least.
“He’s missing.”
