Don’t Turn Your Back On Me
Draco sat alone the edge of the lake watching as the rock he threw gently skipped across the surface of the water. It seemed like an eternity that he had been out thinking only of her. Granger, the Mudblood; had been plaguing his thoughts and dreams for the better part of his seventh year, ever since she came back from summer break looking better than any woman should, witch or Muggle.
~I am a little bit of loneliness, a little bit of disregard~
On more than one occasion he had found himself gazing across the Great Hall during meals, entranced simply by her smile. She was always so carefree with her friends that blasted Potter and his sidekick Weasley. They, of course, were so enraptured with themselves that they failed to notice the goddess that had blossomed between them. Draco cringed whenever he witnessed any of their playful affections the three so often shared. Whether she knew it or not she was his, and he fumed whenever he saw them touching her.
Despite the fact that it was not immediately recognizable, he had honestly made an effort to change for her. He never called her Mudblood, or any other name for that matter. He had even gone so far as to call her Hermione on a handful of occasions when the two had found themselves alone in the halls or library. Though he would never acknowledge Potter’s success in achieving Head Boy, he had found himself complimenting her on more than one occasion for achieving the position she had obviously worked hard to attain. She was like a bright ray of sunshine in his dark existence; he wanted nothing more than to have her in his arms. But above all he was a Malfoy, and a Malfoy does not beg for anything. So he would bide his time and wait, wait for her to come to him.
~Handful of complaints, but I can help the fact, that everybody can see these scars~
The school year was flying by, and as the end of the school year approached he was no closer to his goal of having her. Within a matter of months they would graduate and she would most likely slip out of his sight forever. His emotions were maddening, as with each passing day his heart seemed to press harder against his chest and threaten to burst. Her charms had not gone unnoticed, and from the looks she was receiving from an ever-increasing number of males in the Hogwarts population, his rose would soon be plucked. A Malfoy didn’t beg, but a Malfoy always got what he wanted.
It was with this maddening determination, that as he watched her exit the library late one evening. With one look at his personal goddess, he threw caution to the wind and blood pride aside to pull the witch he yearned for to him in a passionate kiss. As his mouth descended upon her, she didn’t pull away, so he put everything he had behind his kiss. He explored every inch over her mouth with his tongue, memorizing everything about her, from the way she tasted like the sweetest of strawberries, to the silky softness of her lips. He smiled as her body went limp in his arms, and a soft moan escaped her lips.
~I am what I want you to want, what I want you to feel~
Draco slid his hand inside Hermione’s robes as he gently caressed her hard nipples though the thin blouse she was wearing, eliciting yet another moan to pass her lips. Whilst he placed soft kisses along her neck, Draco took the opportunity to allow his hand to travel up Hermione’s skirt until he came upon her moist panties at the apex of her thighs. She showed no signs of stopping him from his explorations of her body, so without hesitation he pushed aside her increasingly wet underwear. She gasped at this motion before throwing her head back and thrusting her hips forward as his nimble fingers found her inflamed clit. Her ragged breaths and constant moans egged him on further as he thrust a finger inside her, in search of her release point for the mounting passion within her. “Oh God Malfoy don’t stop.” She whispered to him in a breathy voice. Just as her body clutched around his fingers, finding its release, the two were brought crashing back to reality. The sounds of footsteps and voices were descending upon them and her body went ridged in his arms when she heard her name being called by Potter and Weasley through the corridors. As her chocolate broyes yes met his stormy gray the only word she could manage was “Why?”
Draco tucked a loose strand of her hair behind her ear before replying, “Because your perfect and you’re mine.”
Hermione stared in disbelief at Draco for a moment before responding with an angry tinge in her voice, “Is this one of you sick jokes Malfoy? The Pureblood Slytherin Prince is out lusting after a lowly Gryffindor Mudblood. Well I hope you’ve enjoyed your little game, but I want no part in it. You’ve had your fun now leave me the hell alone.” Without so much as a look back she stormed off in the direction of her friends who were still calling her name.
~But it's like no matter what I do, I can't convince you, to just believe this is real~
It took another week for Draco to find the perfect opportunity to catch Hermione alone. This time it was just as she was entering the prefect’s bathroom. In one fluent motion he wrapped his arms around her and pulled her through the entrance uttering a locking charm on the doorway behind him to prevent any interruptions. At first Hermione struggled against his hold, but as his lips descended upon hers, she melted into his embrace.
Within moments Draco had skillfully removed both their robes and placed them beneath them. Hermione was so engrossed in the pleasures Draco was showering over her body that she didn’t notice the fact that he had managed to remove every other stitch of clothing besides her panties; which he had just slid his fingers under while making a trail of kisses down her abdomen. With the last bit of clothing removed Draco’s tongue explored her womanhood, continuously passing over her sensitive clit. Hermione’s hips bucked beneath him as his tongue entered her, causing his own arousal to press even more painfully against his pants. She was panting and wet, she was ready for him, and he for her, so without further hesitation he freed the straining erection from his pants.
Hermione noticed him remove his pants and realized what he intended to do. With her breath still ragged from his ministrations she said, “Malfoy, I’ve never done this before.”
A smile spread across his face as the meaning of her words hit him. No one else had plucked his precious flower and now he could claim her as his own. In a calm voice he replied, “I promise to be gentle with you Hermione, and please call me Draco.”
With a nod she gave him permission to continue. With his heart nearly bursting with happiness, Draco claimed her lips with his own and moved between her legs. He slowly allowed himself to enter her, careful not to move in further until her body had time to adjust to his size. As he broke through her barrier a small ripple of pain spread across her features, but as he took her hard nipple in his mouth she relaxed beneath him and allowed him to begin his rhythmic motion.
Their lovemaking had begun to speed up as each body longed to find its release. Hermione, having grown accustomed to Draco’s size, allowed her legs to open further so that his thrusts might penetrate deeper and strikes the itch she felt burning inside. With mind-blowing precision he struck her release point sending her entire body into spasms as she screamed ,“OH DRACO.”
With her walls quaking around him Draco gave once last thrust as his seed burst from his body and filled the woman still quivering beneath him. His body was spent as he collapsed beside Hermione. Every ounce of her was ing ing as she opened her eyes. However as she looked at the man beside her the magnitude of what had just occurred hit her. She pulled her robes around her and held her wand nervously in her hand as she said, “Stay away from me Malfoy.” With that she bolted from the room.
~So I let go, watching you, turn your back like you always do~
Over the two next weeks Hermione made a point of ignoring Draco whenever possible, and never leaving the sight of her friends. The anger rose in Draco as he watched her hug and kiss the both of them repeatedly in front of him. With total disregard of those around him he strode across the grounds until he came upon her. He reached out and pulled her to him as he whispered in her ear. “Hermione, meet me tonight in the Astronomy tower after midnight.”
“What are you hounding Hermione about, you ferret?” Harry asked with venom in his voice.
It was Hermione who answered, “Just ignore him Harry; he’s just trying to get a rise out of us. If we just ignore him, he’ll go away.” Hermione linked arms with her two friends and made her way back to the castle, leaving behind a furious Draco Malfoy.
~Face away and pretend that I'm not~
Hermione crept up the winding set of stairs that led to the Astronomy tower. Not quite sure why she was going or even if he would be there. She knew she had been hurtful that afternoon, but she couldn’t bear to have Harry or Ron find out about her and Malfoy. As much as she wanted to hide in her room tonight for fear her body would once again betray her. She knew she had to end it. His obsession with her wasn’t healthy, and she wouldn’t allow herself to be pulled into his world.
As the door opened Draco spun around from his spot at the window to see Hermione standing in the doorway clutching her wand in her hand. Without any fear of what she might do to him, he crossed the room to where she stood, and held her face with his hands while he kissed her. Hermione arms found their way around his neck as he deepened the kiss.
Her body craved him, as his hands found their way to all of her most sensitive spots around her body. Her mind screamed for her to stop but she was too far-gone. The moment his lips had touched her, she was his, and he knew it.
~But I'll be here 'cause you want what I've got~
Hermione once again collected her clothes and made for a quick escape after another round of mind-blowing sex. He had been quicker than her this time though and stood naked against the door blocking her only exit. “Why do you always run away from me?” He questioned. Hermione decided to ignore his question and began to dress herself. With a smirk on his face he continued, “You can’t deny what‘s between us Hermione. You can’t tell me you don’t feel it. We belong together my dear.”
With as much conviction as she could muster she said, “Draco this was the last time. We have to end this. We have to go back to the way things were.”
~I can't feel the way I did before~
Draco’s eyes grew stormy as he crossed the room to stand before her and replied, “I’m not Potty or Weasel, Hermione, and I don’t take orders. Your mine and this isn’t over until I say it is, and that day will never come.”
“Goodbye Draco.” She said before placing a soft kiss on his lips. Without another word she turned and ran down the stairs.
“HERMIONE.” He shouted but she never answered.
~Don't turn your back on me~
Draco punched the wall again as he remembered the look on her face as she said goodbye, she meant it, and she wasn’t coming back. Just then his thoughts of his Gryffindor Goddess were broken as his fathers black eagle owl swooped into his room, with a scroll and sack tied to its leg. Draco unraveled the scroll and read the simple note from his father:
Draco it’s time.
Having read the note, Draco opened the sack the owl carried, and emptied its contents into his hand. As the stone blazoned with the Dark Mark fell into his hand he felt a tug behind his navel and disappeared from his room. When he reemerged, he stood before Voldemort, his father, and what looked to be a room full of hooded figures. Voldemort's chilling voice called to him, “Draco Malfoy, are you ready to take your place beside your father as one of my Death Eaters?”
Hermione would hate him for this, but she was already gone. With nothing left to lose he replied, “I’m ready my Lord”
~I won't be ignored~
The pain in his arm was greater than anything he had ever known as he felt himself fall into a sea of darkness. When he woke, he found he was in the hospital wing, with no knowledge of how he had gotten there. Beside him asleep in a chair was Hermione, his heart warmed at the sight of her. As if she felt him stir she woke and rushed to his side with her eyes brimming with tears. Through her sods she said, “What did you do Draco? They found you in a heap by the side of the Forbidden Forest. I was so worried about you.”
Draco lifted his hand to wipe away her tears and said, “I didn’t think you cared about me anymore.” His words fell on deaf ears though as Hermione’s face contorted in horror as she spotted the mark on his arm.
~Time won't heal this damage anymore~
Draco quickly moved to cover the mark but the damage was already done she had seen it. With the tears still streaming down her face she said, “We’re on opposite sides now Draco, this just pr it. it.” Without another word she left the hospital wing.
~Don't turn your back on me~
As he heard the door of the hospital wing slam shut he said to himself, “Your mine Granger, regardless of sides, your mine, and always will be.”
~I won't be ignored~
This was to be the last Hogsmead weekend before the end of school, however rather than enjoying it with his friends; his father had summoned Draco to Malfoy Manor. Lucius was sporting one of his characteristic evil grinshis his son greeted him in his office. “Hello father, what is it you needed to speak with me about so urgently?”
“Draco what is going on between you and the Mudblood, Granger?” Lucius slowly asked, carefully watching his son as he answered.
Draco had been taught for years to hide his emotions, so before replying he made sure to calm his features and say, “There’s nothing between us father, she’s a Mudblood not fit to wipe my shoes.”
Lucius’ eyes narrowed, as he said, “Are you sure about that Draco, because Pansy tells me a much different story. According to Pansy you’ve been seen following her around the castle a lot lately. In fact she claims to have even seen the two of you in quite an intimate position outside the library about a month ago.”
~I am a little bit insecure, a little unconfident~
“She’s nothing father just a plaything. I enjoy messing with her to torment Potter. What Pansy saw was nothing.” Draco said with smirk.
Lucius grinned as he removed the charm he had on the room, which revealed Hermione chained to the wall on the corner of his office. She was scared and had tears running down the sides of her face. Enjoying the sight before him, Lucius closed in on Hermione and replied to his son, “And a fine plaything she is son. I think I might just enjoy her myself before getting rid of her.” With a flip of his wrist and the words “Aufero Armarium” Hermione’s clothing disappeared and she was left naked still chained to the wall. Lucius turned the wand on himself and performed the same spell before turning to Draco and saying, “Make sure your mother doesn’t interrupt my fun will you my boy, I’ll come get you when I’m finished to take care of the body.”
“The body?” Draco croaked. The sight before him was horrific Hermione was looking at him with such pleading eyes begging for his help. While his father stood before her in all his naked glory sporting a full erection.
Lucius set his wand on the table and took a step closer to Hermione as he said over his shoulder, “When I’m done shagging the Mudblood I intend to kill her.”
Something primal inside Draco snapped as he heard the words his father said, and the moment he placed his hand on Hermione’s breast Draco shouted “Avada Kedavra.”
~'Cause you don't understand, I do what I can, but sometimes I don't make sense~
“Mother” Draco shouted at the top of his lungs. In no time Narcissa Malfoy was standing in the doorway of Lucius office taking in the scene before her. Against the wall was a young girl her son’s age chained up and naked. On the floor lay her naked husband still and lifeless. Behind him on his knees was her only son still clutching his wand and shaking.
“Draco, what happened?” Narcissa asked.
Draco looked up at his mother with tears in his eyes and said, “I killed him mother I’m sorry. He was going to hurt her.” His eyes were pleading for forgiveness.
Narcissa nodded in understanding at her son and pointed her wand at the form of her husband and said, “Avada Kedavra” sending a second streak of green light into the already lifeless form of Lucius Malfoy.
Narcissa crossed the room to where the young women was, and freed her from her chains before saying, “I’m very sorry my dear. Please take comfort in the fact that he can never harm you again.” She turned back to her son and continued, “I want the two of you get out of here as fast as possible. I need to contact the Ministry and I don’t want you to be around when they get here.”
“No mother, I have to stay, they’ll want to know what happened.” Draco informed his mother.
“Draco I’m telling them I killed him, when they check my wand it will show I performed the killing curse. You’re too young to go to Azkaban.”
“No mother, I won’t let you do this!” Draco shouted.
“Draco think! Do you want to put this girl through the humiliation of telling everyone what your father intended to do to her? I have no doubt he would have raped her, but the Wizengamot might not see your father’s death as a fitting punishment for his crime. You would go to Azkaban.” She gently ran her fingers through her son’s soft hair as she said, “Your father has done more things to me than I care to mention, and with the amount of Dark items in this house, I have a much better chance of convincing them he deserved the curse than you do. Now go.”
Draco hugged his mother and placed a kiss on her cheek. She had made up her mind and there was no changing it. Now all he could do was hope she was right.
Not wasting another moment Draco took Hermione’s hand, she had gotten dressed as he had been speaking with his mother, and threw a handful of floo powder in the grate as he said, “The Three Broomsticks.” Tightly holding on to Hermione by the waist he looked back at his mother and said, “I love you” before disappearing from sight
~I say what you never wanna say, but I've never had a doubt~
It was already dark, when they stumbled out of the fireplace and into the bar. All the other Hogwarts students had long since left to return to the castle, so Draco and Hermione did their best to sneak through the sleepy town unnoticed. They walked silently away from Hogsmead, and back toward the castle. It wasn’t until Hermione asked, “Why Draco? He was your father.” was the silence between them broken.
Draco took a hard look at the wand he still held tightly in is hand before saying, “Because he was going to touch you.”
“You killed him to save me?” She asked in a small voice.
“No, I killed him for touching you. Your mine and I won’t share. You might tell Potty and Weasel that the next time they decide to shower you in affection. I’ve taken the life of the only man I looked up too. After him killing him those two would be a snap.” His voice was cold and detached, as he continued to focus on the wand in his hand.
Hermione admonished herself for thinking he had actual feeling for her and shouted, “You’re a murder Draco, your no better than him” before running towards the castle.
~It's like no matter what I do, I can't convince you, for once just to hear me out~
Her words had shaken him from his stupor, and he chased after her. He managed to catch up with her just before she entered the castle; with a well-placed hand on the door he was able to stop her from going inside. “What’s your problem Hermione? Did you want him to take advantage of you? Did you want him to kill you?” He asked her.
Her eyes burned with furry as she said, “Be honest with yourself, Draco. You didn’t care if he hurt or killed me you were just upset he was playing with your toy. Well I’m not a thing Draco. You don’t own me,” with all her strength she wrenched the door free of his grasp and step inside the castle.
Draco collapsed on the front steps of the castle and placed his head in his hands as he said, “No, Hermione, you’re not a toy. You’re my life.”
~So I let go, watching you, turn your back like you always do~
The next few days passed in silence. As the seventh years prepared to take their NEWTS the rest of the student population was engulfed in conversation pertaining to the murder of Lucius Malfoy. The story had made the front page of the Daily Prophet:
Narcissa Malfoy Murders Husband Lucius With The Use Of An Unforgivable
Sources say Lucius was caught in a sex scandal as his body was found completely naked still sporting and erection. Malfoy’s mystery lover has failed to make herself known, though several witches have come forward admitting relations with the late Malfoy, none have admitted to being with him on his final night. All details of the trial are under wraps until tomorrow when the Wizengamot will hold an emergency session to decide the fate of Lady Malfoy. With his father dead and mother accused of murder, the couples only child Draco stands to inherit the family fortune, estimated to be worth over five billion galleons.
Draco threw the paper aside. All morning girls from every house had been practically throwing themselves at him begging to be the next Mrs. Malfoy, but none of them was the one he truly wanted. Across the Great Hall he could make out Hermione’s figure surrounded in books, reading as she ate. Only once during the entire meal did she look in his direction, but as their eyes met she turned away and went back to studying her book.
~Face away and pretend that I'm not~
Narcissa put up a good case before the Wizengamot. She told them of Lucius’ use of the unforgivable on her, as well as his dealing with the dark arts. The Wizengamot was split in their decision of what her fate should be. Half felt a life being married to Lucius had been punishment enough while the other half demanded retribution for the loss of a life. In the end it was up to Fudge to cast the tie-breaking vote. Having been a longtime friend of Lucius he was devastated by the loss of his friendship and financial backing, so he cast his against Narcissa and ordered that she be given the Dementors kiss. His decision had shocked everyone. Even those who had found her guilty had expected her to merely be sent to St. Mungos or at the worst Azkaban, but before their objections could be heard, the Dementor swooped down and administered the kiss.
Draco’s heart was in his throat when he heard the news. His father was dead and his mother had been kissed, and he was responsible for both of their losses. He had pleaded with Dumbledore to let him go to the trial, but it had been his mother’s wishes that he remain at school and continue taking his NEWTS. In truth she had been worried her son would confess what he had done, and she was right to worry. For the rest of the day Draco sat alone in the library debating what to do. She had already been kissed, his confession wouldn’t save her, but it would clear her name.
His thoughts were broken by a sweet voice beside him. “I’m sorry Draco; she seemed like a nice woman.” Were the only words Hermione spoke as the two sat side by side in silence for the rest of the evening.
~But I'll be here 'cause your all that I've got~
The following morning Draco woke to find a letter on his desk in his mother’s handwriting.
Dearest Draco,
If you’re reading this letter things did not go quite as expected. I don’t want you to blame yourself. Should our places be reversed I wouldn’t have been able to go on with out you. You were the one good thing in my life my baby boy. You were my ray of sunshine. Knowing that you are free to grow up and live to be the man you were meant to be, brings me joy. If you know nothing else son, know I’m proud of you. You were able to break free of your father, something I was never able to do. I’m sure a certain young witch has had a helping hand in your transformation, and to her I owe a great deal of thanks. Don’t lose her son.
Love always,
Mother
~I can't feel the way I did before~
The final NEWT was potions, and the few students who had managed to make it through 7 years of Professors Snape were more than prepared to take the ministries evaluation. The examination passed quickly, and once concluded there was a small cheer from the ten remaining students in the room. As the group began to celebrate Draco noticed Hermione creeping out the door.
“Hermione please wait!” Draco called out after her, but she merely furrowed her brow at the sight of him and continued toward Gryffindor Tower.
~Don't turn your back on me~
With only two day left before graduation, Draco decided it was now or never and ran after her. On the steps of the seventh floor Draco called out, “Hermione why do you keep avoiding me? Why won’t you just give me a chance to explain?”
Her eyes were cold as she said, “You had your chance Draco. Now just leave me alone.” Having said her piece she turned to continue up the stairs.
Draco managed to grip her arm, as he said, “No more running away Hermione. What I did, I did for you, for us. Why can’t you just see that?”
~I won't be ignored~
Hermione voice was cold as ice, as she announced, “There is no us Draco. I’m just your toy remember. Well your toy is broken Draco so will you just leave me alone and go find someone else to play with.”
Draco reached out and took Hermione’s hand in his own before saying “Hermione you were never a toy, you’re my most prized possession. You’re a part of me as much as I’m a part of you.”
Hermione laughed as she said, “Yes Draco, your right there. You are a part of me, seeing how I’m pregnant. So what more could you possibly want from me?”
~`Time won't heal this damage anymore~
Dumfounded Draco stepped back and asked, “How did this happen?”
“How do you think it happened?” Hermione scoffed in return.
“I know how, didndidn’t you protect yourself with a potion?” He retorted.
Hermione’s face-hardened in anger as she replied, “In case you forgot, you were my first, so I hadn’t taken any protection. Since you were the instigator in this whole mess I should be asking you, why you didn’t feel the need to use some protection.” Hermione turned to continue up the stairs leaving a very confused Draco behind.
~Don't turn your back on me~
Taking the steps two at a time Draco managed to catch-up with Hermione in front of the portrait of the Fat lady. Conscious of the fact that he was standing before the entrance to the Gryffindor common room he whispered, “Hermione what are we going to do?”
Hermione quickly hissed back, “We’re not doing anything; I’m getting rid of it.” The next thing Draco knew the Gryffindor portrait of the Fat Lady was slammed in his face.
~I won't be ignored~
From across the room Draco bided his time waiting for Hermione to exit the Great Hall. He had spent most of the night trying to wrap his mind around what Hermione had told him. She wregnregnant, with his child, and she wanted to get rid of it. The idea of being a father was terrifying to him, but the idea of ending the life, a life he and Hermione had created was even more freighting. Hermione was so cold and hateful when she looked at him; it was obvious that she was upset about what she had heard him say to his father on that day. Draco decided that there was only one-way to set this whole mess right. A soft smile graced his face at the thought of how perfect things would be if he could just get her to say yes.
Draco followed her out of the Great Hall, as the door swung shut behind them he took hold of her arm and said “Hermione I need to talk to you”
~Now~
Hermione shook her head before saying, “Look Draco there’s nothing to talk about. It’s my problem; I don’t want anything from you.”
Before she was able to utter another word Draco placed a soft kiss on her lips and said, “I don’t want you to get rid of our child”
~Hear me out now~
Hermione was exasperated as she said, “Draco, I’ve made my decision, and I’m too young to be a single mother. I have my whole life planned out ahead of me, and a child just isn’t part of it.”
Draco smiled as he replied, “That’s just it, I have a plan”
Hermione waived her hand in the air to dismiss him as she said, “I’ve made up my mind and it’s final. I’m going to a muggle clinic near my house. I have an appointment for next week. It’s confidential so no one will know anything; your precious name will be safe.”
“This isn’t about my goddamn name, Hermione. This is about a child. A child we created. You don’t just make an appointment to have it removed, like it a wart.” He began to shout.
~You're gonna listen to me, like it or not~
Hermione bristled as he raised his voice at her, and shouted back. “Considering it’s my body harboring the unsightly growth, I’m the one who will make the decisions.”
With conviction Draco responded, “You’re not getting rid of it, it’s mine too.”
“Draco this game is over. This is real life, and I’m the one who will be left to deal with the consequences.” She said in a calm voice, attempting to diffuse the situation.
“You don’t have to be.” Draco replied as he gazed longinglyo heo her eyes.
~Right now~
Realizing it was now or never he knelt down on one knee and produced a spectacular diamond solitaire ring from his pocket before asking, “Hermione Granger will you make me the happiest man alive and marry me?”
Tears weld up in Hermione eyes at the sight before her as she said, “You can’t be serious.”
~Hear me out now~
“I have never been more serious about anything in my life Hermione.” Draco said as he looked into her eyes hoping that she would say yes.
Hermione frowned as she said; “You’re only doing this because of the baby, Draco”
~You're gonna listen to me, like it or not~
Draco rose from the ground and replied, “Yes Hermione so we can be a family, but also because I love you.”
Hermione gasped in astonishment as she whispered, “You love me?”
With a smile and a nod Draco replied, “Yes Hermione, You’ve had my heart for quite some time now so will you please refrain from breaking it and just say yes.“
A soft smile fluttered across Hermione’s face as she nodded and whispered, “Yes.”
Draco’s face lit up with her acceptance and he pulled her to him in a passionate embrace. When the couple broke apart, Draco took the opportunity to slide the ring on her finger. After seeing the large diamond resting on her finger, the only question Hermione could think of was “When are we going to do this?”
With a grin on his face Draco replied, “Now”
~Right now~
“Draco why can’t you just tell him, you want out?” Hermione asked.
Draco shrugged and replied, “Hermione we have been over this a dozen times, and being a Death Eater isn’t something you can just get out of.”
“I don’t know why you did it to begin with Draco.” Hermione huffed.
Wrapping is arms around his bride of a month, he said, “I didn’t have much choice in the matter, and it didn’t help that I was mad at you at the time.”
“Mad at me? So now every time we have an argument I should be worried you’ll run off and join some evil crusade?” she retorted.
With laughter in his voice Draco replied, “No one evil crusade is plenty for me thanks.”
Hermione gave him a playful punch before saying, “Aahhh you insufferable prat. I still think you should just not go anymore when they call you, maybe they’ll just let you out.”
“Sure Hermione that’ll happen, but I’ll make you a deal. You finally tell Potter and the Weasels we’re married, and I’ll stop going when I’m called.” Draco said.
Hermione groaned, she had been avoiding telling her friends about her and Draco, but he was right they needed to be told. She simply replied, “Deal.”
~I can't feel the way I did before~
It was mid November, and the howling winds and icy rain outside drowned out the piercing screams being emitted inside the dark dilapidated Riddle house. Lying on the floor wracked with pain was Draco Malfoy.
Voldemort cackled as he cried “Crucio” once more, sending another wave of pain through the already heavily tortured young man at his feet. As the curse was removed Draco gasped for air and listened as Voldemort stated, “If you refuse to come when you’re called once more young Malfoy, that day will be your last. Do I make myself clear?”
In a ragged voice Draco managed to say, “Yes, Master.”
Voldemort’s red eyes gleamed as he said, “Now to deal with your wife.” and turned to leave.
Ignoring the overwhelming pain in his body, Draco stood and shouted, “Leave Hermione alone!”
~Don't turn your back on me~
Voldemort whipped around and shouted, “Crucio” once more before saying, “You are my servant boy always remember who is the master.”
In a heap Draco lay on the floor once more whimpering, “Please master don’t harm my wife she is with child.”
~I won't be ignored~
Voldemort simply sneered and said, “That wife of yours is just a lowly mudblood, I won’t have her ruining one of my Death Eaters. You should n hav have married her, she is beneath you.”
Angered beyond reason Draco retorted, “She’s not just a mudblood, she’s a great witch”
~I can't feel the way I did before~
With the sneer still apparent on his face Voldemort responded, “Not to mention a friend to Harry Potter and for that to she will pay.” With that he slammed the door behind him and left Draco to his pain.
~Don't turn your back on me~
It seemed like forever before Draco was able to regain enough strength to Apperate back to Malfoy Manor. The moment he set foot inside he could tell something was wrong. Within moments a blood-curdling scream ripped through the house. Draco dashed through the halls trying to find the source of the sound, but the only thing he came across was a terrified house elf shaking in the corner. He asked the shaking creature the first thing that came to his mind, “Where’s my wife?”
In a small scared voice the elf responded, “She’s in the master’s office.”
Draco’s heart sank, he had avoided the office ever since returning to the manor with Hermione, and as he heard another scream he realized with jarring clarity the screams were indeed coming from the direction of the office. As fast as he legs would carry him he ran to the office doors and flung them open. Inside once again chained to the wall was a very pregnant Hermione, and standing before her was the cloaked figure of Voldemort. Without thought to the possible punishment Draco asked, “What is the meaning of this?”
With a look of disgust on his face the Dark Lord retorted, “Quiet young Malfoy, your mudblood here needs to learn a lesson.” In the next breath, he shouted “Crucio.”
To which Dracoed oed out, "NO!”

He had tried to tackle Voldemort after he cursed Hermione, but it was too late he had already appeared. With shacking hand he had managed to remove Hermione’s unconscious form from the wald wad was now carrying her through the halls of St. Mungos’ hospital in search of someone to help. He looked down at Hermione who looked so frail as he held her crumbled form in his arms, and tears began to slide down his face.
Upon seeing her condition the doctors had rushed Hermione into a room surrounded in a faint blue glow and asked Draco to remain in the waiting area until they had any news of her condition. He paced the length of the hall for what seemed an eternity, but after several hours a pale looking witch tapped him on the shoulder and asked, “Are you Mr. Malfoy?” Dracoded ded in response and she continued, “Please follow me.”
As the nurse led him into the room he was able to make out the sobbing form of Hermione in the bed. Without so much as a look at the witch who had brought him in, Draco rushed to his wife’s side and held her in his arms. After several minutes passed of Hermione crying into his chest, her tearful eyes looked up at him as she whispered, “Draco, I lost the baby”
~Time won't heal this damage anymore~
When the solemn couple returned to the manor, Hermione insisted on having separate rooms. With every day that passed by Draco felt her growing farther and farther away from him. First it was the rooms, and then he noticed her taking her meals at odd hours to avoid him, and spending more and more alone in the library. Finally he decided it was enough, they needed to talk.
As usual he found in the library curled up on the couch reading a book. She didn’t seem to notice him until he took a seat beside her and asked, “Hermione can we talk?”
She looked up from her book with a scowl on her face and replied, “We lost the baby Draco. There isn’t much else to talk about.”
With a look of sadness he said, “You haven’t lost me.”
“Without the baby there is no us, Draco.” She said matter of facutly and returned to reading her book.
~Don't turn your back on me~
Furious with her dismissal, Draco wrenched the book from her hands and spun her around to face him as he said, “Dammit Hermione baby or not I love you, and I always have. What will it take to make you see what is right in front of you?”
With narrowed eyes she replied, “I want him to pay for what he’s done Draco,”
As he wrapped his arms around her he whispered, “Don’t worry my love he will.”

The Dark Mark was searing his flesh but he couldn’t leave until he told Hermione. Over the last few months it had become apparent that something was brewing. Each time he had been called. Voldemort spoke of being prepared for a battle, the battle to end all others, to remove the light from the world so that they might walk free in darkness. He had vowed to tell Hermione whenever he was called; so that she would know where he was, and be prepared that he might not come back. As he entered the library, where she spent so much of her day, his heart stopped when he laid eyes on a letter to him.
Draco,
I received an urgent letter today from Harry. The time for the final battle has come. I have always knew this day would come and have been secretly praying it would be much later, or that you and I wouldn’t be needed at all. The truth of the matter is Harry needs me Draco, he always has. We are on opposite sides you and I, and seeing how both sides can’t be victorious, it is with a heavy heart I say goodbye.
Hermione
Draco’s only thought was She’s gone
~I can't feel~
By the time Draco managed to Apperate to the battle, hexes and curses were in full swing from both sides. He paid little attention to what was going on around him; his only concern was to find his wife. Dodging a surfeit of spells from both sides he made his way to the center of the commotion, where Dumbledore, Ron, Hermione, and Harry stood fighting what looked to be a losing battle against Voldemort and several other Death Eaters. Dumbledore and Voldemort were locked in battle, but just as Draco neared the grohe she saw Dumbledore crumble before the Dark Lord, having been struck with the killing curse. With a mad gleam in is red eyes whirling Voldemort turned towards Harry, who had his back to him and uttered the killing curse once more, sending a beam of green light speeding unseen towards the boy who lived. With lightning fast reflexes Ron threw himself in front of the speeding green light headed for Harry, and crumpled to the ground.
Hearing the thump behind him, Harry spun around to see the lifeless form of his best friend lying on the ground. He glanced up, to see who had cast the spell, and locked eyes with Voldemort. Without thought or remorse he pointed his wand at his enemy and shouted “Avada Kedavra”, His beam shot towards Voldemort only to meet the Dark Lords own curse midway. The two beams struggled against each other to find their target.
With everyone but him locked in battle, Draco decided to send a curse where it might possibly do the most good.
~Don't turn your back on me~
Draco turned his wand toward Voldemort, whose back was to him, and uttered “Crucio” The anger behind what he had done to Hermione and his unborn child, made the beam quite powerful. At the moment the curse found its target, Voldemort shrieked in pain, causing him to lose his concentration on his battle with Potter. No longer able to maintain the battle with Harry, the boy who lived curse struck him with such force that he flew backwards and fell lifeless to the ground.
~I won't be ignored~
Having witnessed the Dark Lord defeated, the majority of Death Eaters lowered their wands, and the few who continued to fight were quickly subdued. The Death Eaters were all taken to the Ministry for interrogation, and to await their trials. In the end Ron was dead, Dumbledore was dead and the world, as they knew it had stood on the brink of chaos and somehow managed to pull through. The only good that had come from it all was that Voldemort was gone for good this time.
Most people had witnessed what Draco had done during the battle, and since no one claimed they had been cursed by him or even seen him curse anyone beside Voldemort; Draco was allowed to go free. Outside the ministry doors two figures stood awaiting his exit. With a bit of apprehension, Draco made his way toward the fountain where Harry and Hermione were waiting.
Extending his hand to the blonde before him Harry said, “Draco I’m sorry I was wrong about you, we all were” after shaking Harry’s hand, Draco simply nodded toward his one time nemesis, and extended his hand toward Hermione.
As he waited for her to take his outstretched hand he said, “Come home with me Hermione.”
An unsure Hermione shuffled her feet before saying, “I don’t know, Draco.” Seeing that the couple needed a private moment together Harry simply left the two alone to talk.
Once Harry was out of earshot Draco calmly said, “You’re still my wife Hermione and I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
A smile broke out across Hermione’s face as she replied, “Alright we’ll give it a try, but I’m not promising anything. We’re not the same people we were. This war has changed us all.”
~Time won't heal~
It was late when the two entered the manor. After months of living in separate quarters Draco said, “Hermione, come to bed with me.”
Hermione shook her head and replied, “I think we need more time Draco,” as she turned to head to her rooms.
~Don't turn your back on me~
“I’m not taking no for an answer Hermione.” He announced as he pulled her to him and kissed her.
The kiss ignited the familiar yearning inside Hermione and at once as she replied, “We’ll if you insist.” She smiled at her husband
“I do.” And with that Draco lifted her up into his arms and carried her to the bedroom.
