The middle

Harry finally leaned away from the kiss to breath while still looking at Draco questioningly.

“Why me?”

“Why not you?”

“Because, I’m just a sad excuse for a wizard.”

“Harry, you defeated Voldemort. You have done so much, not just defeat the bastard but you put up with a lot. Yes, Harry, I’ve always known about you and the hard life you live. And I didn’t help either with all my jokes and making you feel worst than you should have. You didn’t deserve any of it.”

“What do you mean always?”

“I mean that I’ve watched you for a long time Harry. Why do you think I’m with Blaise?”

“Uh, I’m afraid I don’t see the connection there.”

“He reminded me of you. Both strong of heart, your hair was similar although no matter which way I looked at it, running my hands through his hair didn’t lessen the need for me to run my fingers through your hair.”

“Well, if it makes you feel any better I’ve wanted to be with you for a while now too.”

Draco smiled, “Thanks.”

They sat in silence for a while. Draco put his head on the Griffindor’s shoulder and watched the lake with the Griffindor’s arm around his waist.

“So, what do we do now?” Asked Draco

“What choices do we have?”

“We’ll have to break it off with the other two.”

“Yeah, we will.”

They both sat in silence for a while. Just loving the embrace of the other.

“I’ve waited so long for this.” Said Draco

“So have I.”

It took them a while before they finally got up and made their way back inside Hogwarts hand in hand.

When they got to the point where they had to go their separate ways they gave a final kiss and promised to meet up again.

*~*

Harry entered the Griffindor common room and right as the portrait swung open and he climbed in he was shoved against a wall.

“Seamus? What are you doing?” Asked Harry trying to struggle free.

“Harry, What the fuck did you do to Ron?”

“Nothing. What happened? Is something wrong?”

“Fuck Harry, he came in here and he couldn’t stop crying. He wouldn’t tell anyone anything and he locked himself in his room. We can’t even get into the dorm.”

Harry looked beyond Seamus and realized that it was the whole of the Griffindor seventh years and a few sixth years glaring at him.

“Look, I don’t know what happened but I’ll talk to him. I didn’t even see him after I left the Great Hall.”

“Maybe that’s it then.” Said Dean

“Maybe what’s it?” Asked Seamus refusing to release the hold on Harry.

“He must be upset because of the feud between the two of them in the Great Hall.” Replied Dean calmly.

“What? He wouldn’t be upset at something like that.” Said Harry

“That you don’t love him Harry? You don’t think he’s hurting that you don’t love him?” Said Seamus slamming Harry against the wall.

“Well, maybe but not to the point where he would lock himself up in his room.”

“Why not Harry? Don’t you know he loves you? He loves you Harry, he loves you so much I hear him crying at night sometimes after you guys make love because you didn’t tell him that you love him.” Said Seamus

Harry didn’t say anything. He didn’t know. Usually after they made love Harry was too tired to do anything else and he would just fall asleep.

Harry made his way upstairs to talk to Ron; perhaps he could get Ron to be reasonable about this. But then again, Ron was never reasonable about anything.

“Ron?” Said Harry who lightly knocked the room to their dorm.

“Go away.” Said a muffled voice behind the door.

“Ron, let’s talk about this. What’s wrong?”

Ron swung open the door and yanked Harry into the room, slamming him against a best post which dug into Harry’s back.

“You want to know what’s wrong?”

“Yes Ron, I do.”

“I saw you that’s what!”

“You saw me doing what?”

“I saw you kissing that fucking ferret!”

Harry’s eyes went wide. /Uh, oh/. Now he’s going to be in trouble.

“I can’t believe you Harry. You’re cheating on me!”

“Ron, it’s not like that.”

“Then what is it? You kissed him! I saw you!”

“Ron, you don’t know the whole story.”

“What story? Oh God, please don’t tell me you’ve already slept with him.”

“No, Ron, I haven’t slept with him yet.”

“Oh, so you’re planning to sleep with him?”

“Ron, please listen to me.”

“No! No Harry, I’ve had enough. I’m not going to let you break up with me. You’re going to tell that ferret that there’s nothing between you two.”

“But Ron, I-”

“You nothing! You will do it and that’s it. You owe me that much Harry.”

Harry didn’t say anything. He didn’t know what he could have possibly done to owe Ron such a big request but he didn’t want to upset him any further.

Ron had undoubtedly started crying again and Harry had never seen Ron so upset before in his life. Not even when Fred jumped in front of George to save George from the Avada curse during the battle and died in the process.

Draco entered the Slytherin common room and was immediately pinned up by Pansy. The problem wasn’t that it was that she was bigger than him or anything. It was that he didn’t want to touch her so he backed away.

“YOU!”

“Yes, Pansy, me. Learned a new word today have you?”

“Shut up! You made Blaise cry!”

“I did no such thing Pansy! Maybe he saw your face and thought the world ended or something.”

“SHUT UP! HE’S CRYING AND YOU’RE MAKING A JOKE!”

“He is not crying.”

“Yes he is! He’s in his room crying and he wont let anyone in with him! Draco, what have you done?”

“I have done nothing stupid girl!”

“Well, you’d better go and check on your boyfriend before he does something stupid, like forgive you!”

With that Pansy stormed out of the common room.

/Stupid nutty girl. Babbling on about nonsense. Blaise can’t be crying. Could he? Better check to make sure./

Draco walked up to Blaise’s room and knocked. “Hey, Blaise, can I come in?”

“No! Go away Draco. I never want to speak to you again!” Said a muffled voice beyond Draco’s view.

“Blaise, I don’t know what’s the matter. Please, let me in.”

The door swung open but Blaise was still on his bed crying into a pillow.

Draco entered the room and sat on the bed near Blaise. “What’s wrong Blaise?”

“Don’t you go asking me what’s wrong! You know bloody hell what’s wrong!”

“No, Blaise I don’t.”

“I saw you kissing that stupid Griffindor! How could you DO this? You betrayed me! It wasn’t enough that you don’t love me, you cheated on me with a Griffindor!”

“It’s not like that Blaise. I’m not cheating on you.”

“Bloody hell your not! Then what do you call kissing someone else while your in a bloody relationship then? A friendly conversation with the neighbour?”

“Blaise please listen to me. It’s not that simple, Blaise I-”

“No, Draco, you owe me this much to break up whatever you HAD with him. You hear me? You’re going to forget the bloody Griffindor and we’re going to be together.”

Draco took a deep breath. He didn’t argue with Blaise, they were friends for so long, Blaise had stuck by him through thick and thin; he couldn’t just hurt Blaise like this. Even if it meant forfeiting his own happiness.

*~*

The next morning Draco entered the Great Hall. He could feel Harry’s presence from just entering the Great Hall. Draco for once, felt loved. He felt like the world was anew, then he remembered what happened the night before. Blaise, he owed Blaise happiness at the very least.

Draco took a deep breath, /here goes nothing./ He took a seat by Blaise and hugged Blaise as soon as he sat down.

“Good morning Draco.” Said Blaise looking up at his new Slytherin.

“Good morning.”

“Feel better Draco?”

“Uh, Yeah, of course my sweet.”

Blaise grinned at his Slytherin and went back to his breakfast.

Draco couldn’t conceal the urge of looking up at his Griffindor.

*~*

Harry was eating breakfast beside Ron with his arm draped over the red head’s shoulder.

“Harry, so, are we ready to plan our future together?”

“Uh, yeah Ron. Of course we are.”

“Good, well, I wanted to live near the ministry since we’re both going to be near there anyway. That way we won’t need to apparate that far.”

“Good thinking Ron.”

Ron grinned to his left, which Harry was currently positioned. “Then, I want us to live somewhere with a bay window. I loved those. Always have.”

“Sure Ron, so have I.”

Ron grinned and returned to his breakfast.

Harry felt Draco enter the Great Hall as soon as the door had opened just slightly. Harry chanced a sight of Draco and when he looked up he saw Draco look back at him. Oh, those beautiful gray eyes; he could almost feel himself right there, beside his Slytherin.

“Hey Harry, let’s get to class now. Don’t want to be late do you?”

“Oh, no of course not Ron, let’s go then.”

Harry got up and left the Great Hall.

Ginny wasn’t stupid. She saw what was going on and she was so ashamed at what was happening. Not even when Percy had left the family and talked back to her father had she been more ashamed. Her own brother, even more selfish than Percy. Ginny shook her head. She didn’t think she had ever had a worst morning.

Snape overlooked the students at his spot on the staff table. If what he saw wrue, rue, he was greatly disappointed. His own Slytherin, doing such selfish acts. /I thought I taught them better than this./

*~*

Draco entered the potions class with Blaise at his side.

“Come on Draco, let’s get a seat before Snape gets here.”

Draco obliged himself to his boyfriend. He couldn’t help being nervous a great deal of the time during Breakfast that morning. Harry was going to be in his first class. Either than in the Great Hall, this was going to be the first time they saw each other since the kiss. Oh, how much did Draco want to feel those tender lips upon his own once more.

“Well class.” Said Snape entering the room followed by his robe’s flapping behind him. “Today, we will be making a potion. A very strong potion, which will need the work of being paired up.” With little to no reaction from the class he added, “With the pairings made by me.” He smiled when he heard the class groan in disappointment.

“Weasley, Blaise. Granger, Pansy.” He gave Potter an evil smile before he continued, “Potter, Draco.”

The class worked without incident. Except the occasional glance from Ron and Blaise up at the blonde and black head.

“Potter, this isn’t going to work.” Said Draco trying to tell Harry by referring to the potion in case someone was listening. Apparently Harry understood because he replied, “I know. There’s nothing we can do. It’s ruined anyway. Just forget it.”

“We have no other choice Potter.”

The class finished and Snape looked at their potion. “I’m sorry boys. I’m afraid that you will both have to stay to redo your potion.”

“But, Sir, you never even made Longbottom redo his potions when he did them wrong.” Said Blaise

“Yes, indeed, but I am trying to help Mr. Malfoy with his grades and if you EVER go against what I say again, you will be in for a big surprise, understand?”

Blaise nodded and left the room with a glaring Ron behind him.

Draco and Harry both looked at Snape questioningly.

“Um, sir, we didn’t do the potion wrong. I made sure everything was right.” Commented Draco

“I know Mr. Malfoy, that is not the real reason I have called you both here.”

“Then why sir?” Asked Draco

“Because I noticed something in the Great Hall this morning that just didn’t seem right. So do you think you can explain that to me?” Said Snape looking back and forth between Harry and Draco.

Both the boys shook their heads.

Snape muttered a spell that closed the chamber door and cast a silencing charm on the door so no one could hear them.

“There are two people in this school. That I have noticed are not exactly as happy as they should be.”

“What are you talking about professor?” Asked Harry

“What I am talking about is that even though you may all presume that I have no heart and that I do not care for my students, I do. And when students are not happy, sometimes, I am not happy either because the reason may be unjust.”

The boys still looked at their professor in confusion.

Snape rolled his eyes, “Forget it. You are both dismissed from your next class, see you both at lunch.”

Draco and Harry looked at one another before they turned to leave the room.

“That was odd.” Commented Draco as they walked out of the room.

“Yes, it was. I don’t know what he was talking about.”

“Me either. He’s a good man and everything, but sometimes, he just refuses to give anyone a straight answer or explanations.”

“Agreed.”

Both the boys walked in deafening silence.

“Well, see you at lunch then.” Said Harry before they parted.

“Yeah, see you at lunch.” Replied Draco and then turned to leave.

*~*

Snape was standing in the shadows. He could see the sadness in both boys’ eyes. The older man was not stupid, he could guess by putting two and two together that Draco was being held by Blaise and the Weasley was doing something to Harry.

Snape took a look outside the school and saw light snow beginning to fall.

“Winter is coming.” Said Snape to himself, “Winter is an unforgiving season.”
