Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter, nor any of the characters from the books or movies. I do not make any money from the writing of this story. |
A/N: An update!
Woo! The disclaimer still
applies... I only own Jordan Harris and nothing else 'cause JKR owns the
rest! Someone e-mailed me and asked how
often I'll be updating this fic. I'm
going to try and update at least once a day or every other day unless I get
writer's block ^_^ Now to the reviewers
(I put this on two different sites, ff.net and adult-fanfiction.org so I'm going
to bunch you all together):
ImLuvinMyThesaurus: Thanks for the review Al! It means a lot that you'd come over and review
after you already told me that you liked the story. Yes, Jordan is a troublemaker... I wonder why I know so
much about troublemaking? >;)
Moony's Angel: Love the name! I like Lupin too ^_^. Thanks for the review! And I'll be checking out your story later
today. :)
Sanpe's Secret: Thanks! I love Snape too ^_^. Thanks for liking Jordan. It's hard sometimes to get people to like
new characters but I'm glad you like her!
lindsey: Thanks!
And I am writing more because I like it too! ^_^
deblovesdragon: Thanks! I liked how Jordan told them off too. She is a great witch, which you'll find out
more about in later chapters.
Yabo: Thanks!
And I will continue it! Oh, by
the way, what does your name mean? LOL
Whew! I think I
got everyone! If I forgot you, I'll get
you in the next round. If anyone would
like me to e-mail them when I update, just tell me and I can do so. Now on with the story....
Chapter Two
The Secret
The Order's kitchen started to slowly fill up as assorted
members arrived for the weekly meeting.
Snape looked at all of them, sitting and talking amongst
themselves. He hated coming to these
things and could think of better ways to spend his evening.
Molly walked in and looked over at him for a moment before
speaking. "Have a seat
Snape," she said as she waved toward the table, "I just got a post
from Dumbledore and he's running a bit late."
Snape growled. He
didn't want to be here any longer than necessary but now he had to be. After letting his eyes travel over the table,
he finally sat at an empty spot. He
smoothed out his robes and quietly waited as Arthur Weasley rambled on about
some muggle thing called a DVD player.
He sighed and shifted in his seat as Arthur's grating voice became too
much for him.
"Where is Miss Harris?" asked Snape as he looked
around the table. No one answered him
but instead chose to stare at him. He
rolled his eyes and let out a long sigh.
"No wonder the Order is falling apart. You lot are nothing but a bunch of twits!"
"Settle down Snape," said Molly as she sat down
beside him, which made him move to the side, "She's on assignment for
Dumbledore."
"What kind of assignment?" asked Snape as he
crossed his arms.
"I don't know.
If you ask me it's too soon to have her out there, doing stuff for
us," said Molly to anyone that would listen to her.
"She seems more qualified than most here,"
commented Snape.
Molly turned her head toward him and gave him a look. Snape rarely said anything nice about
anyone. "Stay away from her,"
warned Molly, "She doesn't need the likes of you corrupting her."
Snape sneered at her and cleared his throat. How dare a housewife tell him who he could
or could not associate with? He
happened to find Jordan the most intelligent of anyone that graced the kitchen at
the moment, him included. "I will not take orders from the likes you
Molly," he simply said.
"I mean it Snape," said Molly as she leaned
closer to him, "an dan doesn't need someone like you pulling her
back..."
Snape raised an eyebrow as Molly suddenly stopped
talking. He looked at her, wanting her
to continue. Where actually had Jordan
been pulled before? "Please
continue Molly. Don't leave me
hanging. Tell me what an evil and bad
man I am," he growled.
Molly leaned away from him and twisted her apron around
her hands. She wasn't supposed to
mention Jordan's past to anyone since she had found out about it by
accident. But yet she felt bad for
keeping it from the rest of the Order because they deserved to know what Jordan
had been.
"Forget it," she finally said, "Just stay
away from her or I'll have to tell Dumbledore."
"Ah yes," said Snape as he nodded his head,
"Run off and tell the Headmaster.
Like I care."
Molly quickly stood from her spot, not wanting to be
around him anymore. She busied herself,
cleaning, to keep her mind off the nasty looks Snape was giving her. He watched Molly for a few moments as he
thought back to Jordan's Hogwarts file.
There was nothing out of the ordinary but of course it didn't tell of
what she did after she left school.
"Would anyone like a spot of tea?" asked Molly
as the kitchen door pushed open.
Everyone looked up, hoping it was Dumbledore, only to see Jordan
standing there. She stood there,
holding a large crate in her arms as she stared at all of them.
"Where is Dumbledore?" she asked as she slammed
the crate on the table.
Sanpe looked up at her and noticed small scratches on her
face and hands. He frowned and then
looked around the table, waiting for someone to answer her. When he saw no one was going to, he decided
he better. "He's running
late," he said.
"How bloody special," she said as she pried the
crate open, "He sent me off on assignment... an assignment that entailed
crawling through a dusty crawl space to catch and kill bats!"
The top of the crate popped open and a few dead bats fell
to the table. Tonks jumped back as
Molly began to yell. "Get those
things off the table this minute!
People eat there!"
"Bite me," said Jordan as she turned to look at
Molly, "And stop ordering me around."
font-family:Verdana'>Snape let out a small laugh as Molly's face turned bright
red. She stomped over to where Jordan
was standing and looked at her. "I
will not have you speaking to me in that tone of voice," she said as she
grabbed Jordan's scratched and raw hands, "Do you understand me?"
Jordan grimaced in pain as she struggled to get out of
Molly's grip. "Let go," she
cried out.
"Not until we get something straight," said
Molly as stepped closer to Jordan, "You're lucky that Dumbledore has over
looked your past and has let you live here with all of us. No one here trusts nor likes you Jordan but
we tolerate you for Dumbledore.
Remember that."
font-family:Verdana'>Both of them looked over at Snape as Molly slowly loosened
her grip. "Well then," she
said as she straightened up her apron, "Who would like that tea?"
Various people spoke up as Molly started to set out
glasses, like nothing had happened.
Snape looked over at Jordan, who was putting the bats back into the
grate. He looked down at her hands and
noticed that they were fiercely shaking.
"Come and sit by me Miss Harris," said Snape as
she placed the last bat back into the crate.
She looked up at him and gave him a wounded look. Snape patted the bench beside him and she
slowly rounded the table.
"Thank you," she said as she sat down beside
him. She bowed her head and looked down
at her hands as a loud pop sounded throughout the house. Everyone looked up as Dumbledore strolled
into the kitchen.
"I'm sorry for my lateness," he said as he sat
down and looked at the crate, "Ah!
I see you got the bats out for me Jordan."
"I did," she quietly said without raising her
head.
"Very well then," said Dumbledore as he started
the meeting.
He talked about the same thing they talked about every
week: their lack of manpower and how Voldermort was still at large. Snape kept his eyes on Dumbledore but
allowed a few glances over at Jordan.
And when he noticed that she was rubbing her raw hands together, he
simply reached over and placed his hand on them to make her stop.
After the meeting was over, Jordan almost knocked herself
out trying to get out of the kitchen.
Snape watched her and wanted to go after her when Dumbledore stopped
him. "Severus, how is that new
potion coming along?" he casually asked.
"It's coming along nicely," said Snape as he
watched Jordan slip out of the kitchen door, "If you would please excuse
me Sir..."
"Ah. Very
well then," said Dumbledore as he stepped aside. Snape gave him a small nod and went to the kitchen door. He practically had to push Tonks and Lupin
out of the way just so he could get out.
Once the door was open, he walked out into the foyer and
saw Jordan slowly climbing the steps.
He quietly followed her up and watched as she went to the furthest door
on the left. Snape quickened his pace and
grabbed her by the elbow before she went in.
"What?" she asked as she spun around to look at
him.
Snape slid his hand down the door and turned the knob
until it clicked. He slowly pushed it
open and placed his hand on the small of Jordan's back as he guided her
inside. "I take it that this is
your room?" he asked as he looked around.
"Yes," she said as she looked at him, "What
do you want?"
"Your hands," he said as he pointed at
them. Jordan looked down at them and
sighed. They did look pretty bad.
"I fell," she simply said. Snape held out his right hand as he
positioned his left around his wand.
Jordan furrowed her brow as she looked at him not quite knowing what he
wanted.
"Give me your hands," he said. She slowly raised her left hand and placed
it in his. Snape held up his wand and
said a spell. They both watched as the
cuts and dried up blood slowly disappeared.
Jordan raised her right one and Snape repeated the process.
"Thank you," she said as Snape looked at her
face.
"Your face," he said as he cupped her chin with
his free hand. He tilted it toward him
and she diverted her eyes from his as healed the cuts there. "All better," he said as a small
smile passed over his lips.
"Thanks," she said as she backed away from
him. Snape watched her as she stepped
back, her head dropped. She almost
looked like a child that had just been disciplined.
"Why do they hate you?" he finally asked. Jordan looked up at him and gave him a fake
smile.
"Define "they". A lot of people hate me," she said as she walked over to the
window.
"The Order," he said, not believing that a lot
people would hate her.
"You don't want to know," she said as she peered
out at the half moon.
"And why not?"
"Because I like you and the less you know, the more
you'll like me," she said.
"Ah. One of
the biggest mistakes one can make is assuming what others will think or
feel," mused Snape as he stepped toward her, "How bad can it
be?"
"Very bad," whispered Jordan as she turned
toward him, a pool of tears forming in her eyes.
Snape frowned and looked at her. He was often considered nothing more than a cold-hearted man, who
wasn't capable of being gentle but he knew he had to be with her since she
looked so hurt and lost.
He carefully raised a hand and placed it on the side of
her face. He swiped his thumb across
her cheek to catch a tear that was falling.
"Tell me," he whispered.
Jordan looked up at him and took a deep breath. She pressed her face against his hand and
quietly spoke. "Why do you want to
know?"
Snape let a small smile cross his lips as he watched her
search his eyes. "Because I find
you intriguing. I have since the day I
met you. And I want to know so I can
try and help take the pain away," he said.
"It's bad," she said, stalling for time.
"Jordan..." he softly said, "It can't be
that bad."
"It is," she said as she started to pull around
from him. Snape stopped her by gently
grabbing her arm.
"Just say it."
She nodded her head and squeezed her eyes shut. More tears started to fall as she opened
them and looked at him. "I-I
was," she began as she swallowed hard and looked at him. She let out a soft cry and opened her mouth
to speak again.
"I used to be a Death Eater," she finally said.
A/N: Heh!
Sorry for the cliffhanger but it had to be done. How will Snape react to the news? Why/How did Jordan become a Death
Eater? The answer to these questions
and more in the next installment! >;)
