Chapter Two
^*^*^*^*^*^
Remus snickered at the expression on Sirius' face. He grabbed Severus' hand before the Slytherin could make any rude comments. "Let's go dance," Remus murmured, pulling Severus away and onto the dance floor.
Lucius rolled his eyes and started to walk away, followed by Peter.
Sirius was still staring at his gorgeous boyfriend, trying to figure out what to say.
James laughed and leaned forward to peck Sirius on the lips. "Why were you talking to Malfoy and Snape? And why is Malfoy even here?" James asked curiously.
Sirius grabbed James and passionately kissed him.
"Do you know how fucking sexy you look?" Sirius finally spoke.
James grinned. "I was hoping you'd like my new look."
Sirius practically groaned as he continued staring at his lover. "You always look fabulous, James. But, this look is so gods, how am I supposed to stay here and dance when all I want to do is shag you senseless?"
"Hmm, who says you have to dance? I'm sure we could always find some unused classroom or closet."
Sirius moaned and kissed his boyfriend again.
"So, are you going to tell me what's going on?" James questioned. "And by the way, you look gorgeous and sexy as hell."
"Thank you," Sirius replied. "Peter and I came in together, and we ended up talking to Lucius. He's here because-"
"You called him Lucius!" James exclaimed worriedly. He jokingly pressed his hand against Sirius' forehead. "Do you have a fever?"
Sirius rolled his eyes. "He's here because Dumbledore is essentially protecting him ever since he defied his family. I still think he's a bit of a stupid Slytherin; however, I can understand where he's coming from and all."
James nodded his head and gently squeezed Sirius' hand.
"Snape showed up with Remus. He's still a bastard, of course."
"Of course," James agreed. "There's something you're not telling me, Siri."
"Am I that obvious?"
"Only to me," James replied. "What's going on?"
"Lucius said that Regulus is alive, and he's here at Hogwarts," Sirius whispered.
"What in the hell?" James said, shocked. "He's dead!"
"Apparently not," Sirius replied. "Unless, of course, Lucius is lying, which I somehow doubt. Anyway, Snape seemed to know all about it, too."
James started to tug at his hair, then determined it would mess up the gel. Instead, he began fiddling with Sirius' long locks. "How is it possible that he's alive?" James asked. "And why on earth is he even here?"
"I really don't-"
"And if that fucking bastard lays one hand on you or even says one thing remotely cruel, then I am going to personally hex him to another planet after I am finished beating the hell out of him!"
Sirius looked at James with wide blue eyes.
James' expression softened. "That's what I would do to anyone who hurt you, Siri."
"Mmm, I know. You're just a little bit frightening when you get angry."
"And you're not?" James asked with a raised eyebrow.
Sirius chuckled and motioned to the dance floor. "Would you like to dance for a while and try to forget about this whole mess?"
"Absolutely," James replied, although he didn't look like he would forget their current troubles.

Later that evening, after the dance had finished, Sirius and James followed Lucius through the winding halls of the castle.
"Are you sure you're supposed to be taking me to him?" Sirius asked quietly.
Lucius shrugged his shoulders.
"I would imagine Dumbledore knows," James pointed out. "He seems to know everything."
Sirius sighed and nodded his head unhappily. He knew he had to see Regulus, but the timing was terrible. Sirius would much rather be in bed with his lover right now.
James squeezed Sirius' hand and continued to follow Lucius. Eventually, they came to a small room located in a remote part of the castle. Lucius whispered a password that neither Sirius nor James could hearpletpletely.
The door opened slowly, and Lucius walked in, motioning for Sirius and James to come inside, too. They followed hesitantly, Sirius still clutching James' hand tightly.
"Reg?" Lucius called out, his silver eyes searching the room worriedly.
"Right here," Regulus replied as he appeared. He was wearing muggle jeans with a green shirt, and he looked exhausted. "What's going Sirius! You're here!" he exclaimed, running over to his brother.
Sirius glared at Regulus and took a step back to avoid contact with his younger brother. "Why are you here?"
Regulus stared at Sirius for several moments before eyeing Lucius again. "You didn't explain?"
Lucius shrugged his shoulders. "I figured you should."
"I guess you're right," Regulus said nervously. "Sirius?"
"What?" Sirius asked. He let go of James' hand and folded his arms across his chest.
Lucius took this moment to slip out of the door, noticed only by James.
"Will you please let me explain?" Regulus pleaded.
"I'm waiting," Sirius muttered.
"Would you like to sit down?" Regulus asked, looking at his brother and James.
Sirius shook his head. "No, I'd like to know what the fuck is going on!"
Regulus gulped. "Right. I didn't die, Sirius. It's-"
"That's fucking obvious!" Sirius explained.
James placed a hand on Sirius' back and tried to comfort his lover.
Regulus looked at James gratefully and then took a deep breath. "Our parents think I'm dead. See, I didn't want to be a deatheater, and I don't want anything to do with mother or father. I hate everything they stand for, and I hated the way they treated us especially you."
Sirius opened his mouth to speak, but Regulus continued.
"I just was never strong like you, Sirius. You had the strength and the courage to stand up for what you believe in and know is right. I was always too damn scared, so I did everything they told me to. The few times I tried to disobey father, he hurt me so much that I caved in and did what he wanted."
"How did he hurt you?" Sirius asked. He face held no expression of showing whether or not he believed his brother.
"The usual," Regulus mumbled. "Painful curses and spells. Hitting and punching. It was never as bad as what he did to you, Sirius. I always caved in. &nb cou couldn't handle the pain. I was never as strong as you were. I always wished that I was. I always felt so helpless watching them hurt you. And you took it. You didn't even scream most of the time!"
Ss' es' eyes flashed with anger and his body tensed up completely. James continued rubbing Sirius' back in a soothing manner.
"I'm sorry, Sirius. I'm so sorry for all of the mean things I said and did to you. I never wanted to do any of it. I I just was too scared not to."
"You certainly acted like you enjoyed torturing me," Sirius spat out.
"That's because he was watching most of the time!" Regulus exclaimed. "I was scared of him, Sirius! You were never scared, just just angry! I was scared to death of what he'd do if I did something wrong. And the times I disobeyed him scared me even more! I should have run away like you did, Sirius, but I'm a fucking coward!"
Sirius just stared at his brother.
"Please believe me, Sirius."
"Who helped you fake your death?" James asked.
"Lucius," Regulus replied. "And he told Dumbledore everything, and that's why I'm here. Lucius is going to help me with my classes, too. I mean, he's going to come in here and teach it all to me, I guess. I I wish that well, never mind."
Sirius sighed and started pacing around the room. "Why should I believe you?" he asked.
"Go talk to Dumbledore if you don't believe me," Regulus said quietly. "But please don't shut me out, Sirius. I feel terrible about everything I've done to you, but please understand that I didn't want to do any of it.  e ale always looked up to you, Sirius, and I-"
Sirius snorted.
"I'm not lying, Sirius. I told you, you're brave and you're courageous. You're everything I'm not. I always wanted to be more like you, but I didn't have the guts to be that way! I was jealous of you half of the time!"
"Jealous of me?" Sirius roared as he stopped walking and faced his brother. "Jealous of what exactly? How many times I was beaten and yelled at?"
Regulus blinked back the tears that threatened to fall from his eyes. "No, Sirius. No! Jealous because youen'ten't in Slytherin. Jealous because you had the courage to go against our parents! Jealous because you have friends who truly care about you!" Regulus exclaimed as he motioned to James. "And jealous because you're erm nothing."
James arched an eyebrow, wondering what Regulus was going to say.
Regulus nervously looked at James.
"I think you're telling the truth," James finally said. "If I ever find out this is all a lie, I will personally rip out portions of your body that you'd probably rather keep."
Regulus' eyes widened, and he nodded his head. He knew James Potter was a powerful wizard, and he really didn't want to anger him in any way.
"I promise I'm telling the truth," Regulus finally whispered, tiredly.
James sighed. "You know that Sirius isn't going to immediately believe you or forgive you, right?"
Regulus nodded.
"I'm not even sure if I believe you."
"I can't blame you," Regulus said.
James made his way over to the door and took one last glance at Regulus. "What was the last thing you were going to say?"
"What? When?"
"When you said you were jealous of Sirius. You were going to say something else. And earlier, when you were talking about Malfoy helping you with your lessons, you were going to say something else. Both times you stopped. Why?"
Regulus sighed and ran his fingers through his hair. "Are you going to tell Sirius?"
"Perhaps," James answered honestly.
Regulus sat down on a large green chair and looked at the wall thoughtfully. "I was just going to say that I wish he could help me with my studies. I mean, it's not like I can go to class-everything will have to be done here. And Sirius is smart. I really have always looked up to him-I could just never show it, you know?"
James nodded his head, slowly beginning to truly believe that Regulus wasn't lying.
"I guess I just wanted him to help me, too. Not that I don't want Lucius' help,s jus just that I want to get to know Sirius better. I know he's an amazing person."
"He is," James agreed quietly.
"Shouldn't you be going after him?"
"Is that your way of asking me to leave?" James asked.
Regulus quickly shook his head. "I hate being alone." He snorted and stared at the wall. "I'm scared of my own damn shadow. I just figured you should find him and make sure he's okay."
"I'm waiting for at least ten minutes," James replied, still standing near the doorway. "He needs time to cool off. I know Sirius better than anyone, and I know that he wants to be alone right now. He'll want me to be there soon, but right now, he needs time alone to think."
"He's lucky to have you."
"I'm lucky to have him. What was the other thing you were going to say when you were taking about being jealous?"
Regulus started laughing weakly. "I've always been jealous of how handsome he is. I can't say that to his face, though. He'll think I'm lying or coming onto him, neither of which is true. I just think he's good-looking."
James couldn't help but smile. "He is. Look, it's time for me to go and find him. I think I believe you, but I know it will take a while for Sirius to trust you."
"Can't blame him," Regulus muttered as he watched James leave.
