A/N: I can’t believe that I actually got a response.
Thank you, Sak, Ezekiel, Abby, Anon, Chi, Dracos Minx, and Pinky for reviewing.
Sak: in this story, I’m trying to see how far love can be stretched until it
breaks. Through the kiss, I wanted to show that there are many unresolved
issues when it comes to their love. Even though Harry has been hurt, there’s
still the what if. The kidnapping will be explained later. As for the house…
I’ll get into that later also. Ezekiel: they always have girls? Weird. In all
the m-preg stories that I’ve read, they always have a boy. *Shrugs* Abby: thank
you! Here’s the next chapter… Pinky: oh, there’s going to be plenty of
conflict… Chi: thank you! Anon: I tried to hurry… How’d I do? Dracos Minx:
here’s the update.
All songs used throughout this story are going to come from
Fleetwood Mac. We’re still on “Frozen Love”, though. Well, that’s enough out of
me.
Draco
And if you go forward, I'll meet you there
And if you climb up through the cold freezing air
Look down below you; search out above
And cry out to life for a frozen love
“The spells protecting this house should have protected against this,” Draco said.
“So they got past the spells,” Harry said. “They found a way.”
“But you have no idea how complicated the spells were. Whoever did this knows a lot about me. Perhaps they know about our past together,” Draco continued.
“They couldn’t,” Harry firmly said. “I was too careful about that.”
Hermione, Ron, Sirius, and Remus were silently watching the two. They had come for moral support... and to keep Harry in the house. He had been told to stay in case a ransom note came, but they knew he wouldn’t do that. They had been rather surprised when they had found Draco still at the residence. Keeping Sirius from killing Draco had been
somewhat difficult, but Remus and Hermione had managed to subdue the man. Ron had had no trouble with the idea, but Remus and Hermione didn’t need Sirius to get blood on his hands. That didn’t stop Sirius from giving Draco murderous looks, though.
“But you don’t know who you might be dealing with,” Draco said, shaking his head. “You can’t be sure of anything.”
“Just leave, Draco,” Harry said, his voice flat. “You can do nothing to help.”
“Harry, I-” Draco began, but Hermione swiftly cut him off.
“Harry has told you to leave,” she said coolly. “Now leave. This has nothing to do with you.”
The truth of her words smarted, but Draco showed no emotion. It was easy to mask all that he felt. It was easy to push the world away… Draco took one last look at Harry, knowing that his eyes gave everything that he was feeling. But Harry didn’t look into his eyes. Draco said not a word as he turned and left.
Relief washed over Harry as he watched Draco leave. He hated himself for opening himself back up to Draco. He had allowed himself to be weak, and he had done it because of Draco. But there would be no going back to Draco. He just had to find Alyssa. She was the one that he needed.
There were so many people who could have taken Alyssa. Harry had more enemies than he could count. Whoever had taken Alyssa was either seeking revenge or money, and there was no indication of which one it was. And Alyssa could have been taken anywhere. Everything was going against Harry. He had many people searching for her, but this was still going to be a difficult process. There was so much uncertainly thrown into the mix. Alyssa could so easily be killed, and he wouldn’t be able to get to her in time to save her. And the minutes kept ticking by…
“I can’t stand this,” Harry burst out and stood up. “I’m going to search for her myself.” Harry needed to be at the Ministry, trying to figure out who could have done this. He couldn’t wait around for a ransom note.
“Harry, you can’t search the entire world,” Remus said, putting his hand on the younger man’s shoulder. “Everyone is working on this. You will get her back.”
“She could be killed,” Harry whispered. “And I wouldn’t know until I found the body.”
“Revenge is more personal than that,” Sirius said. “They would want you to watch helplessly.”
“But we can’t be sure of that,” Harry argued.
“They gave her a chance to fight, Harry,” Hermione said. “They didn’t use spells to stop her from struggling. That man could have easily subdued her using a spell and then killed her in front of you. Whatever is planned is far more complicated than just a killing. We still have time.”
“But how much time could we possibly have?” Everything was uncertain. Nothing could be assured. Harry closed his eyes. Nothing.
---
“Soon she will awaken… I don’t understand why she fought us.”
“Perhaps she does not know.”
“It is quite possible that she has been caught in the lies of their world. They should pay for that.”
“They will.”
Alyssa slowly came back to consciousness. Her eyes opened slightly. There was something in her mouth, and her body felt strange… She tried to move, but she couldn’t. Breathing in sharply, she looked down at her body. She was gagged and shackled to an altar. A spell had obviously been placed on her body so that she could not move anything except her head. She called out, but the noise was muffled by the gag.
“You net sct scream, Alyssa,” a rough feminine voice said. “We are the only ones who can hear you.” The woman ventured closer, coming into Alyssa’s view. “Are you afraid?” The woman looked deep into Alyssa’s eyes.
Alyssa stared up into golden eyes. Long black tendrils of hair flowed down from the woman’s head as she leaned over Alyssa, almost touching her… but not quite. Alyssa knew that her fear was shining through her eyes, but what did she care? She was completely helpless.
“You are,” the woman stated. Her voice did not match her appearance. She was a beautiful woman, but her voice was harsh and repulsive. “I can see it in your eyes. You are drenched in fear. You fear me, but why? I am only here to serve you.” The edges of her mouth curved up into a smile. It made Alyssa want to shudder, but instead she closed her eyes. “Look at your followers, Alyssa.”
Alyssa kept her eyes shut tight.
“Please… Gaze upon them.” The woman caressed Alyssa’s cheek. Revulsion pulsed through Alyssa and she snapped her head to the side. “See their adoration.”
“We serve you, Alyssa,” a crowd murmured.
Alyssa opened her eyes slightly. A circle of people surrounded her. They were all kneeling with their faces downward, bowing to her.
“See how they worship you,” the woman said, barely above a whisper. She had backed away from the altar and had taken her place in the circle. “How I worship you…” She bowed down. “We are your slaves. And soon, you will be free.” She straightened up. “Adrastos, come forth.”
Alyssa couldn’t see the young man until he knelt down at the woman’s feet.
“You have been blessed with Sight, Adrastos,” the woman said. “You foretold the arrival of the Spirit, the Anima. Look into the soul of this girl, Alyssa Potter, and tell us if she is truly the one Anima.”
Adrastos came up to Alyssa and held his hands over her body. He made eye contact with her, and she found that she could not look away. Alyssa needed to stop this, but she was completely vulnerable. She watched in fascinated horror as Adrastos began to age. His face became weather-beaten and worn. His hair turned from a sandy brown to a deep silver. A foreign and unsoled sed sensation crept into Alyssa’s body, making her feel utterly used. Fight back… Fight… her mind weakly said.
“She is the one,” Adrastos croaked in a terrifying voice. If the dead could speak, Alyssa was certain they would sound like Adrastos.
Suddenly, Alyssa heard muted screaming that was occasionally punctured by a whimper. It wasn’t until Adrastos broke eye contact that she realized she was the one who was screaming. Painful sobs brought movement back to her body. She started to shake. Realization of this dawned on Alyssa and she struggled against her shackles.
The woman quickly intervened, casting a spell over her. Once again, Alyssa knew darkness.

Hermione stood in the kitchen of Harry’s home, nursing a large cup of coffee. It was mid morning, and she was waiting for Harry to awaken from his unnatural sleep. She had been home for a while, but she needed to be there for Harry. He had to find out who had taken Alyssa, and Hermione was going to help him whether he wanted her to or not. She cared deeply about Alyssa. She was determined to find her.
Hermione squeezed the cup and took a few deep breaths. She could hardly believe that Alyssa had been taken. It wasn’t fair that Harry had to suffer through this. He had suffered so much throughout his life. His destiny had taken too much of his life. He had experienced far too many losses. Why did he have to put up with more?
“At least Draco is gone again…” Hermione murmured.
“He isn’t gone. He came to me because he wanted to. He won’t bow out gracefully, not now that this has happened.”
Hermione turned towards Harry. “We’ll keep him away from you.”
“That won’t be easy. He’s a Malfoy, after all.”
But Harry didn’t want to discuss that, as Hermione could easily see. She opened her mouth to speak and avoid what Harry would assuredly bring up next.
“You drugged me,” Harry stated. “You shouldn’t have done that.”
Hermione had been ready for anger, but she had not been prepared for the hollowness in Harry’s eyes. It was painful to see him like this. “You needed your rest, and I knew you would never get to sleep on your own.”
Harry looked away from her and was silent for a moment. “Go home, Hermione.”
“Harry…”
“You have two daughters at home,” Harry said. “They need you. I don’t.”
“I’m going to help you figure who did this,” Hermione told him, “and nothing that you can say will stop me. I know that Alyssa isn’t my daughter, but I still care about her, Harry, and I will do anything to find her. My help cannot harm you, so don’t fight me on this. Let’s just go to the Ministry.”
Harry knew that she meant every word. He sighed. “Fine. Let’s go.”
---
“Awaken, Alyssa,” the woman’s harsh voice commanded.
Alyssa groggily opened her eyes. Her heart sank as she found that she was still shackled to the altar. How long she had been out, she could not tell. The same spell was still on her. She tried to make her body move again, but it was no use. “What do you want from me?” Alyssa said. Her words, surprisingly, came out with perfectly clarity. She was
no longer gagged.
“Only what we were promised,” the woman said. “We shall begin the first ceremony now.” The woman looked over Alyssa’s body. “You are so pure, so young… We never expected that the Anima would be so innocent. Perhaps that just adds to your power,” she murmured. The woman gazed at Alyssa a moment longer, then turned to the people behind her. When she turned back to Alyssa, she was holding a double-edged knife… an
athame.
“What are you going to do to me?” Alyssa whispered.
“We are going to go through the first ritual. It is the blood ritual. Your untainted blood will wash away the sins of the past,” the woman said as she approached Alyssa.
Alyssa knew that screaming wasn’t going to help her, but it was worth a try. She let out a long shriek.
“Do not fear, child,” the woman said, dragging the end of the athame handle across Alyssa’s pale skin. “The pain will be quick. We only need a bit of your pure blood.”
“My blood isn’t pure,” Alyssa said quickly. “I have some muggle blood in me.”
“That does not matter here,” the woman said. “The only thing that matters is that you have the blood of the Spirit. That blood must be spilt.” Her eyes laughed as she lightly placed the blade against Alyssa’s skin.
Alyssa tensed the only muscles she could and waited for the pain to come.
“You don’t know how long we’ve been waiting for this…” She pressed the blade edge down and broke the pale skin of Alyssa’s arm. Dark red blood seeped out of the wound. The woman pulled the blade down along the bone. A wave of excitement rose up among the gathered as the blood gushed forth.
Alyssa didn’t want to scream. She didn’t want them to know the agony that she was in. But the pain controlled her voice as she screamed out for her father. She needed him… Would he be able to save her?
“Do not speak of him, dear child,” the woman hissed. “He is not here for you. But we are. We are your saviors, Alyssa. We saved you from them.”
Alyssa blocked out the voice and sobbed. “Please… Daddy… Daddy…”
Slowly, the pain started to fade. Alyssa was starting to feel light-headed, but she willed herself to stay awake. Blinking the tears out of her eyes, she looked over at the woman. The woman was holding a large golden bowl under Alyssa’s arm, which was catching all of Alyssa’s blood. The flow seemed slow as the bowl filled up. Finally, the flow of blood stopped, and all traces of the wound disappeared.
“Why?” Alyssa whispered.
“We don’t want you to die, Alyssa, especially not in such an unworthy way,” the woman said. “That death would not be fitting.” A look of pure joy overcame the woman as she dipped her fingers into the red liquid. “It is so beautiful. You have no idea, Alyssa. No idea at all.” She brought her bloodied fingers up to her face, inhaling deeply.
For one horrified minute, Alyssa was certain that these people were going to drink her blood while she watched. She felt sick, but she wasn’t sure if that was from the loss of blood or from the prospect of watching such a disgusting display. If they actually did that, Alyssa knew that she wouldn’t be able to hold back the nausea that was creeping up her throat.
The woman abruptly pulled her hand away from her face. “Adrastos,” the woman said in a carrying voice. Adrastos… Adrastos… Ghostly echoes of the name bounced through the large room as the woman released one of Alyssa’s hands.
Adrastos approached the woman. He looked young again. He did not kneel before the woman this time. No, this time they were meeting as equals. The woman nodded to Adrastos, who took Alyssa’s slack hand and plunged it into the bowl of blood.
“What are you doing?” Alyssa cried. The two ignored her.
“The Spirit anoints you with her life force,” Adrastos said, bringing Alyssa’s hand up to the woman’s forehead and pressing it down. “Lysistrata, you have been marked by the blood of the Anima.”
Alyssa’s wrist was slipped back into place. Adrastos now knelt before Lysistrata.
“Unto you, the blood of the Spirit is now given,” the woman said, smearing some of Alyssa’s blood onto Adrastos’s forehead. “You are purified.”
Adrastos stood, bowed to Alyssa, and then went back to the circle.
“Ioanna,” Lysistrata called.
The process was repeated until every person in the circle had been marked with Alyssa’s blood. At that point, the people turned their attention back to Alyssa.
“We have been blessed by your blood, Spirit,” the group whispered.
“You will give us what we were promised,” Lysistrata said, her cold eyes staring into Alyssa’s. “You will bring us back to what we were.” She put her blood-covered hands on either side of Alyssa. “And then, you will take us to new heights. We will go beyond what we were.” She moved back, smiling.
“You’re insane! You’re all crazy!” Alyssa yelled. “I’m not the Spirit!”
“You are so wrong, Alyssa,” Lysistrata said. “You do not realize the power that you hold.”
“Let me go!”
“You will gain freedom eventually, Alyssa, but you must be patient. You have only been here one day. We have been waiting for an eternity. But soon our wait will be over, and our persistence will be rewarded.”
“Let me go! Let me go!” The spell was nearing the breaking point. Lysistrata let out a short growl and took control again.

Harry didn’t want him back in his life. Draco knew that, but he also knew that he could help Harry. Harry wanted to ensure that Draco would stay away forever. That was what Draco had promised… Draco shook his head. He couldn’t do that if there was even the slightest chance that he could aid Harry in his plight. The fact that Alyssa was his daughter wasn’t a part of this. He could never say that Alyssa was his daughter, and he knew it. This was only about what Draco owed Harry.
There was the sound of tapping at his window and a caw. A crow was sitting on his windowsill. It had a letter attached to its leg. The crow was not the most reliable bird for mail delivery, but some people just preferred them. Draco went over to the window and opened it. The crow flew in, never taking its beady black eyes off of Draco. Draco took the letter, but the crow did not leave. It merely settled back onto the windowsill, eying the blond man.
There was only one senteon ton the parchment. It was untidily written in a dark red ink.
She will be freed.
The crow gave a gleeful caw and flew off, leaving Draco to deal with the new information.
“She will be freed…”
Harry
Life gave me you; the change was made
And there's no beginning over
You are not happy, but what is love?
Hate gave you me for a lover...
