A Reunion
~~~~~A Reunion~~~~~
It had been a week since Blaise was released from Mungo’s. Ginny’s eyes would continue to glance around as if expecting him to come back in through the door. She’d never had these sorts of expectations before with anyone besides her family. What the bloody hell was coming over her? It wasn’t like he wasn’t one of the most handsome wizards in the world. And it wasn’t like he wasn’t single… she was single too.
As her mind wandered so did her feet, carrying her to the triage area. A series of pops and cracks signified that there were people apparating in. Too many to be normal. Her eyes widened at the sight of the people apprating in. Head wounds, bruises, scrapes, covered in mud and blood. A few of them Hogwarts students, bearing house crests on their robes from the 4 houses.
Heart thudding wildly at the thought of the ones she loved most that were on those front lines she wanted to apparate to Hogwarts. A Hufflepuff student approached her. Couldn’t be older than a 5th year she guessed. His trembling hand holding a letter with the Hogwarts crest on it, he cleared his throat softly.
“Ginerva Weasley?” His wavering nervous voice asked her.
With a simple nod she answered. “Yes” Without waiting for any other inclination he thrust the letter into her hands and then made his way back towards the hearth for the Floo Network.
Raising an eyebrow she quickly opened the letter. A familiar untidy scroll stated one sentence with a signature looking just as rushed as the text.
Gin,
We need you, come quick.
Love,
Ron
Her eyes went wide after reading it and looking around.
The final battle. It was taking place NOW. Damnit. Blaise was there, along with Harry, Ron, Hermione, everyone she knew and loved. Cursing softly to herself she strode to her supervisor and thrust the letter into her hand. Giving an acknowledging nod to her superior Ginny disapparated into the Great Hall of Hogwarts School. One of the things Headmaster Dumbledore had been able to do was to make it so that certain people were able to apparate directly into the grounds of Hogwarts.
Gasping as she saw the state of the great hall her heart sank into her feet for the second time in 2 weeks. The tables that she’d seen laden with food and work from classes was now made into makeshift surgery tables and the Great Hall had been turned into a triage and hospital.
Moving among the bodies laid on the tables and students that were casting spells along with healers borrowed from St. Mungos she glanced around for familiar faces.
Spotting a tuft of red hair she moved towards one of the tall boys sitting on a bench at the edge of the entrance. Getting closer she recognized Fred. Closing the distance quickly she wrapped her arms tightly around her elder brother.
“Fred! Oh, you don’t know how good it is to see you” Ginny exclaimed while holding to her brother.
Fred however was motionless, the tears on his features only evident through the trails of dirt and dried blood that resided on the pale skin of the usually tanned boy. His breathing was the only indication to Ginny that he was alive and breathing. The odd silence carried on for a moment before she felt arms wrap around her. A soft voice in her ear as she held to her own brother, George held to her.
“He’s lost Angelina… and we called you here because of Hermione” George stated as he pried her grip from Fred. Leading her to the Charms classroom just off the great hall there stood Harry by the doorway, his arms wrapped around Ron who was pale, shaking and sobbing. A few tears started to flow from her own eyes as she watched both of her brother’s conditions. George led her into the room past the gathered few, without a word.
Standing in the middle of the room was a table with a mediwitch and a curtain of brown hair falling from the edges of the table.
Gasping as she moved forward she pushed up the sleeves of her uniform from St. Mungos and when she got a glance at Hermione’s condition she then felt the tears flow endlessly.
George soon joined Harry again and Ron wasn’t looking any better. The door had closed they now were clueless as to what was going on inside to save Mrs. Hermione Weasley. Usually the one for jokes and laughs George wasn’t even thinking about those at the moment, his only concern now was making sure that his brother and sister-in-law were healthy and safe.
George’s thoughts wandered to his twin, his look-alike, and his doppelganger, Fred. They’d both seen Angelina hit by that blinding green light, standing at her side. Fred had been the one to catch her then dead body and cling to it as he sent the same curse to the bastard Death Eater that had cursed his fiancé. George and Fred had been the only ones to know of the engagement so far. Not wanting to get their mother’s hopes up about having another girl in the family, but now. That hope was dashed before it was even started.
The noise of the door opening broke George from his reverie. Ginny held the composure of her position as a healer’s assistant. She’d done this many times before, and this wasn’t going to be any easier than the next or last. This was going to be the hardest time she had to break any news to anyone. This was family.
Ron stood instantly and freed himself of Harry’s grip as Ginny approached.
“R-… Ron” She stammered out. The words that had once come so easily to tell to strangers, stuck in her throat.
“Sh-… she… di-… didn’t make it” Tears now flowing steadily from her eyes down her cheeks, spilling down to her collar. Ron’s eyes went wide and he yelled. Long and loud, a heart-wrenching cry for the one he’d lost.
Hearing Ron’s cries eyes turned in their direction. But the Weasley’s gathered didn’t care, they only cared about holding each other and sharing the grief that loomed over all of them. George wrapped his arms around Ginny, whose arms were around Ron. Harry’s arms were around the three of them before Fred joined the hug.
After a while the shock and loss pulled everyone their own separate ways. Ginny needed air, and to get away from the losses that the battle placed on everyone.
She’d run into Seamus who gave her a hug and commented on how she was lucky she wasn’t a nurse at the front lines as his mum was. Walking along the scarred earth from a few battles she found herself at the lake. Sitting down at the shore she pulled her knees to her chest and sat in the silence.
No charms, no curses, no loss. This was her moment to be alone. At least for the moment.
He’d watched her strolling across the grounds, the lost look that she carried in her eyes. Blaise continued to gaze at her as she sat there in grave silence. Pulling a handkerchief from his pocket he strode to her, holding it out as he stood by her side.
“But soft, what light through yonder window breaks? It is the East, and Ginerva is the sun. Arise, fair sun, and kill the envious moon, who is already sick and pale with grief that thou, her maid, art far more fair than she. Be not her maid since she is envious. Her vestal livery is but sick and green. And none but fools to wear it. Cast it off.”
Hearing his voice she took the handkerchief with a Z monogram on it and stood quickly, her hand clutching the fabric before enveloping him in her arms. The tears that before had stayed within in her eyes now flowed freely into his shoulder.
His hand rose to hold her head to his shoulder, his callused fingers entwining in her ginger locks. Softly cooing to her hoping to calm her down as his own heart broke, knowing her loss. “I’m not going anywhere love.. Shh… everything will be fine” He didn’t care that he’d just come from the battle field not far from Hogwarts and that he’d seen former housemates and friends dying around him. All that mattered was his Fireball was back in his arms again.
A/N: I took a poll amongst friends and got a lot of mixed reviews on this chapter. When it came down to it and writers block, this chapter ended this way instead of getting a bit more added to it.
Please feel free to leave me reviews. I won’t beg, but as a person with an ego I like to hear that my work is appreciated.
