CHAPTER TWO
Harry whistled and chuckled as the puppy he'd found in Diagon Alley came stumbling into the room. He'd found the poor thing in an alleyway after he left Hogwarts. He had gone to Gringotts to get some money. As he walked down the road, he heard something whimpering. Wondering what was making the sad noise he walked down the alley where he found the small puppy hiding under a box. The poor thing was thin and neglected.
Harry's heart melted at the pathetic look the poor thing had given him. Harry picked him up and carried him back to the Leaky Cauldron. He cleaned the puppy up and realized that he had rescued a Border collie. The puppy probably weighed about ten pounds and he was black, white and brown. He had the most adorable face and the brightest blue eyes. Harry fell in love with him and decided that he would keep him. He introduced him to Hedwig, who had been waiting for Harry. Hedwig gave the puppy an intense look and hooted her approval.
After transfiguring a bed and some toys, he set the puppy down on the bed and told Hedwig to keep an eye on him. He left the inn and made his way to the small building that sold real estate, both in the Muggle world and Wizarding world.
After looking over the list of available homes, he decided to check out the large house in the Scottish town of Oban. It was a Muggle town that was near a small Wizarding community. Oban was also a gateway to the Isles of the West coast of Scotland. If Harry decided to buy it, he would be near the ocean. With the real estate agent in tow, he checked out the old house and fell in love with it. He decided that it was a place that he could call home. It was near the ocean and Harry could see it from his house. He jumped at the chance to buy the lovely home.
He decided that in order to insure his privacy, he would need to ward his house. He made it unplotable and warded it against all owls, except for Hedwig and the owls Harry would let in. He warded it against portkeys, except for those that he made, and he warded it against apparation. He debated about putting it under the Fidelius spell, but decided against it. He figured that if the reporters and unwanted people became too much of a problem then he would do it.
He had been at his new house for two months now. He'd been getting to know the Muggles in the town. Harry lived in the countryside so he had no close neighbors. In order to talk to someone he had to go into town. He had been wary at first, but the people in the town seemed nice. He had yet to visit the small Wizarding community of Oban, but when he did, he would be sure to use a glamour. He didn't want anyone to find out where he was.
Harry looked down at his puppy, Maverick, and grinned. "Ready to go outside, boy?" he asked.
Maverick yapped in joy and rushed over to the door, sliding on the newly polished hardwood floors. Harry chuckled and opened the door, following Maverick outside. Harry took a deep breath and sighed in satisfaction at the clean, crisp, salty air. He could smell the ocean that lay beyond the hillside. It was one of the places that Maverick liked to go play. It was amusing to watch as the puppy tried to attack the small waves that crashed onto the beach.
Harry grimaced slighty as he felt nausea well up within him. He had been feeling a bit run down and sick to his stomach for the last couple of weeks. He wondered if he was getting sick. He frowned thoughtfully and decided that if it kept up, he would go to a Healer. He didn't want to get sick.
Harry whistled and Maverick bounded over to him, his tongue hanging out as he panted. He yapped eagerly and Harry chuckled. "You ready?" he asked and Maverick bounced around eagerly. Harry leaned over to the small box on the porch and pulled out the small ball. "Come on boy, let's go to the beach."
Maverick turned and ran off the porch. Harry followed and they made their way to the beach. Harry threw the ball and Maverick chased it, bringing it back to be thrown again. Maverick was a very intelligent puppy and sometimes Harry wondered if there was more to the dog than he could see. He'd thought that puppy was a Muggle dog at first, but now he was beginning to wonder if Maverick might have a little something magical in his bloodline. He was entirely too intelligent and sometimes Harry swore the puppy knew exactly what he was saying. Harry shrugged at the thought. If he was, it didn't matter. He enjoyed the puppy either way.
They spent an hour playing on the beach. Harry was getting tired and his stomach was rolling with nausea. He grimaced and sat down. Maverick ran over to him and licked him on the face. Harry reached up to pet him. "You go play. Have fun, but don't get lost and for pity sakes, don't go into the ocean again. This time I might let the waves take you," Harry said and the puppy gave him a doggy grin and took off running.
Harry had enjoyed his last two months alone. He had no one bothering him, there were no reporters begging for an interview, no fan mail or marriage offers. It was just him, his dog and his owl. He knew that his friends were probably mad with worry. He knew that leaving a note wouldn't be enough for Ron or Hermione, but he wasn't ready to face them yet. He wasn't ready to explain why he had left.
He wondered how Severus and Remus were doing. He was sure that they were relieved that he was no longer there to remind them of their mistake. Harry sighed deeply as felt the familar pang in his chest. He couldn't think of the two men without feeling some pain. He wished that he could get over his feelings for them, but he knew that it would be a long time coming. He thought of the Headmaster and decided that it was time to let the man know where he was. Harry had finally forgiven him for his manipulations, even if he would never forget them.
Harry stretched and stood up. He whistled for Maverick and headed back towards the house. He needed to get dinner ready and there was a new book he wanted to start reading. He looked down as he felt Maverick run into him. He grinned at the puppy as the dog bounced around in excitement. Harry shook his head and they both headed towards the house.
Two weeks later found Harry leaning over the toilet as he threw up. He moaned as his stomach roiled with nausea. He had been unable to eat much and he was so tired. He slept most of the day and he was becoming concerned. He sighed as he leaned against the toilet. He had been putting it off, but he knew that it was time to go see a Healer. He waited a few minutes to see if he was going to throw up anymore before getting up from the bathroom floor. He flushed the toilet and washed his mouth out.
Harry walked out of the bathroom and headed for the kitchen. He walked over to the counter and grabbed a couple of saltine crackers. They were the only things that seemed to calm his stomach. He munched on a few and felt his stomach settle a little. With a sigh, he walked towards the door and opened it. He heard a bark and looked down as Maverick bounced around excitedly. He smiled at the lovable dog and shook his head. "Sorry boy, this time you have to stay here. I'll be back as soon as I can."
Maverick ears drooped and he flopped onto the ground. He whined pitifully and peered up at Harry with a sad expression on his face. Harry chuckled, leaned down and patted him on the head. "Good try boy, but not this time. When I get back, if I feel better, I'll take you to the beach. We can play some, alright?" he asked.
Maverick's yipped in excitement as he began to bounce around again. Harry chuckled and looked over at Hedwig. "Watch out for him, would you, Hedwig? Try to keep him in line." Hedwig hooted in understanding and gave the puppy an indulgent look.
Harry walked out the door, pass the wards, and apparated into the Wizarding community of Oban. He had finally visited it last week. He liked the small, quaint village. It wasn't as large as Diagon Alley, but Harry liked it nonetheless. He made his way to the small gray building that stood on the corner of a the busy Main street. He opened the door and went inside. It was a small health clinic that included three Healers. He walked up to the counter and smiled at the witch sitting there.
"Hello, sir. Can I help you?" the perky witch asked.
"Yes, my name is Henry James. I was wondering if I could see a Healer. I'm not feeling very well," Harry said.
"Certainly, Mr. James. Just fill out this paperwork and hand it back to me. I'll get you in to see Healer O'Malley as soon as it's done," she said.
Harry took the clipboard and thanked the nurse. He looked at the counter in surprise as he found Muggle pens sitting in a cup. Apparently Oban was a little more intergrated with the Muggle world than Diagon Alley was. Harry took a pen, sat down and filled out his paperwork.
Fifteen minutes later and a few stupid questions later, he finally finished. He got up from the chair and made his way back up to the counter. The perky witch looked at him and smiled cheerfully. "All done then?" she asked and Harry nodded his head. She took the clipboard from him and tapped it with her wand. It disappeared and the witch looked at him saying, "If you would take a seat, a nurse will be out with you in a moment."
Harry nodded and sat down, mentally grumbling at the stupidity of paperwork. Realizing that it could be a little while before the nurse made an appearance, Harry leaned his head against the wall and closed his eyes. Surprisingly it was only a few minutes later when he heard his name being called.
"Henry James," a voice called out to him.
Harry opened his eyes and got up from his chair. He walked over to the stern looking nurse and followed her towards the back of the building. They stopped in front of a small room and the nurse ushered him in.
"If you would take a seat, the Healer will be right in with you," the nurse said with a slight frown.
The nurse shut the door and Harry sighed in annoyance. He sat down on the examination table and looked around. He was tired and decided to lay down and wait for the Healer. He took the crappy pillow, bundled it up, and laid his head on it. He sighed contently and fell asleep.
He was awoken by someone gently shaking him. He opened his eyes blearily and saw a strange man standing next to him. Harry stared at him in confusion, wondering who he was. The man smiled at him kindly and said, "Hello, Mr. James. My name is Healer O'Malley. I see that you're a little tired."
Harry sat up and yawned widely. He nodded his head and said, "Yes, it's one of my problems. I'm also sick to my stomach and I've been throwing up pretty much the last week. The only thing I can eat is saltine crackers, light salads and certain soups."
Healer O'Malley frowned slightly as he made notations on his pad. "How long have you been feeling sick?" he asked.
Harry thought a moment before replying, "About a month now. The first three weeks it was just nausea. I'm also extremely tired and all I seem to be doing is sleeping."
"Have you had any headaches, muscle aches, sore throat, or joint aches throughout all this?" the Healer asked.
Harry shook his head. "No, just the lack of engery and the nausea."
Healer O'Malley nodded his head in understanding. "All right then, lay down on the table and let's see if we can find out what's wrong," he said cheerfully.
Harry laid back on the table and watched as O'Malley took out his wand and said a couple of words. He waved his wand over Harry a couple of times, muttering various things. A few minutes later, there was a large blue glow hovering around his abdomen. O'Malley looked at him in surprise. "Oh, well, I see indeed," he said in bemusement.
Harry looked at him in concern. "What? What's wrong?"
O'Malley looked at him and smiled, "Nothing is wrong, Mr. James. Give me a few more minutes and then I'll be done."
Harry frowned slightly. He knew the Healer had found something, but he didn't know what. Harry was suddenly concerned that maybe he really was sick. He chewed his lip wondering if maybe he should've come to the clinic earlier. Hopefully, whatever it was, wasn't too serious.
A few minutes later, O'Malley put away his wand and helped Harry sit up on the table. He smiled at Harry and said, "Well, Mr. James, I can say with all certainty that you're fine."
Harry frowned at him and asked, "If I'm fine then why am I throwing up?"
O'Malley smiled cheerfully. "It's all part of the process."
Harry looked at him in confusion. "What is part of the process? What process?" Harry asked.
"Congraulations, Mr. James. You're pregnant," the Healer said cheerfully.
"I'm what?" Harry squeaked out.
Harry walked down the street of Oban, whistling cheerfully. He was making his way to the clinic. Today was the day that he would find out the sex of the baby. He couldn't wait. Nodding to the Witches and Wizards that he had become friends with over the last four months, he walked up to the small building and opened the door.
Entering the building he greeted the cheerful witch at the counter. "Hey, Sandy," he said.
"Henry! It's great to see you. So, today is the big day?" she asked.
Harry grinned. "Yep, I'm going to find out if it's a boy or a girl. I'm excited."
Sandy laughed and said, "I bet you are. If you would take a seat, I'll let Sam know you're here."
"Thanks, Sandy," Harry replied and took a seat. He hummed quietly as he browsed through the Muggle and Wizarding magazines that laid on the table next to his chair.
"Henry?" a voice called out to him.
Harry looked up and smiled as he saw Sam O'Mallery, the Healer who had been taking care of him for the last four months, waiting by the open door. He put down the magazine and got up from the chair. He made his way over to Sam and smiled cheerfully. "Hey, Sam. How are you doing on this glorious morning?" he asked.
Sam chuckled. "I'm doing fine, but obviously not as well as you," he said with smile.
Harry grinned and said, "I'm a little excited."
"I can tell. Come on, let's find out the sex of the baby," he said and they made their way back into the small examination room. Harry pulled off his shirt and laid down on the examination table. Sam walked over and looked down at him. "How are you doing?"
Harry shrugged and replied, "I'm doing ok. I can't play with Maverick as much as I want to, but I'm doing good."
"Any more nausea?" he asked as his wand scanned the baby.
"Nope, I can honestly say that its gone and I can't be happier," Harry said with a grin.
Sam chuckled and replied, "I bet you are. Well, the baby is doing good. You're a little anemic, so I want you to make sure that you eat more foods with iron in it. I'll have Sandy give you several potions to help you along. You're gaining weight nicely and your body is handling the baby very well. So, are you ready to find out the sex of the baby?" he asked cheerfully.
Harry smiled and said, "Anytime you're ready."
Sam muttered a spell and waved his wand over Harry's abdomen. He frowned slightly and gave Harry an odd look. He muttered the spell again and scanned Harry's baby. Harry began to worry. "What is it? What's wrong?" he asked in concern.
"There's nothing wrong. I'm just getting some odd readings from the baby. I'm going to try another spell. Hold still. I want to get an accurate reading," Sam explained. He muttered another spell and waved his wand over Harry's abdomen. There was a sudden glow and Harry noticed that it was a light purple color.
Sam began to chuckle. "Well, what do you know. Isn't that interesting," he said cheerfully.
"What? What's going on?" Harry asked, worry filling his eyes.
"You can sit up now," Sam said. He helped Harry sit upright on the table. "I'm sorry if I worried you, but as I said before, I was getting some odd readings from the first spell. The second spell is a little more invasive, which is why I used it. Congratulations, Henry. You're having twins," he said with a grin.
Harry stared at him in disbelief. "I'm doing what?" he asked in shock.
Sam chuckled and replied, "You're having twins."
"But…how…why are you just now finding this out now?" Harry asked.
"The second baby is hiding behind the first one. Their magical signatures are so alike that I couldn't tell the difference between the two. Only when I looked for their sexes did I realize that you were having twins. You're having a boy and a girl. That's why the glow was purple," Sam explained.
Harry sat there, his mind in a daze. Twins. Merlin, he was having twins. He swallowed hard and looked at Sam. He whispered quietly, "Can you tell if they have the same father?"
Sam gave him a sharp look before replying. "Yes, I can. Do you think that they might have different fathers?"
Harry nodded his head. "Yes, there is that possibility" he said quietly.
"All right. I need you to lie down again. Acclaro Genitor," Sam muttered and hovered his wand above the babies. He watched intently as the abdomen glowed brightly for a moment before separating into silver and gold ball of light. He cancelled the spell and looked at Harry. "They don't have the same fathers."
Harry closed his eyes and sighed softly. He was pregnant with Severus and Remus's children. He didn't know what to do. He wondered if maybe he should let them know, but he was afraid that they would try to take the children away. He knew Remus would love the fact that he was a father. He had always wanted children, but he had been unable to have one. Usually males got pregnant with the help of potions and spells, but Harry had been powerful enough that he didn't need them. He opened his eyes and looked at Sam. "If I got pregnant by a werewolf, will the child have the disease?" he asked.
Sam looked at him with wide eyes. "Did you know the man was a werewolf?" he asked in shock.
Harry nodded and replied, "Yes, I knew. I just didn't think I was going to get pregnant. Now, I'm concerned about whether or not the child will become a werewolf."
Sam shook his head. "No, Henry. The child will not become a werewolf. He or she will become a shapeshifter if you will, or more perferably an Animagus. The child will have the ability to change into his or her wolf form without the pain of transformation or the pull of the moon. You don't have to worry though, the ability will only show up when the child is around seven or eight. You won't have to worry about chasing a wolf pup around," Sam said with a grin.
Harry chuckled and replied, "I'm sure Maverick would've enjoyed that." Harry sighed wearily and struggled to sit up on the table. Sam reached out and helped him. "Is there anything I need to do for the twins?" Harry asked.
Sam shook his head. "No, just keep doing what you've been doing. Make sure to take your potions and eat more liver. I also want to increase your visits. Carrying twins can add more stress on your body than carrying just one child. When you get closer to your due date in four months, I want you to stay in Oban. I would prefer you to be closer to the clinic, just on the off chance that something does go wrong. I want to take every precaution."
"Alright, I can do that," Harry said.
"Henry, I have to ask, have you told the fathers about the babies? Do either of them know that you're pregnant?" Sam asked gently.
Harry's face filled with pain and Harry had to look away from the Healer. "No, they don't, and if I have my way, they never will."
"Was it consentual?" Sam asked in a soft voice. Henry had become his favorite patient and he hated to think that someone would harm the man in that way, but he needed to ask. The thought of Henry being by himself to take care of the twins worried him. He knew that there was more to Henry than what he was letting on. He could see that there was a glamour spell surrounding the man, but it wasn't his businees. People usually came to Oban to get away from their problems.
Harry looked at him in surprise by the question. "It was, but there was also a potion involved. If it hadn't been for the potion, there wouldn't have been anything to worry about. They are happy in their relationship, and I'm not going to destroy that for anything. It was mistake on all our parts. I refuse to let them take my children," Harry said harshly.
"Do you think that would happen?" Sam asked.
Harry frowned in thought then shrugged. "Who knows. Why take the chance? That fact that I'm having children would be enough. If I were to name the fathers, there would be even more of a scandal," Harry explained.
Sam looked at him in confusion. "Why would it matter if you were having children?" he asked.
Harry looked at Sam thoughtfully before pulling out his wand. "I trust you, Sam. You've never been anything but kind. I know you believe heavily in the Healer/Patient confidentality, so I'm going to let you in on a little secret." Harry waved his wand and muttered under his breath. His glamour disappeared and Sam stared at him in shock as he realized who was sitting on his examination table.
"Merlin, you're Harry Potter," he said with a squeak.
Harry snorted in irritation. "Now you see why it would be a big deal if people found out I was pregnant."
Sam blinked rapidly for a second before saying, "Yes, I do believe I understand. It makes no difference to me who you are, Henry. You're still my patient, regardless of your status in the Wizarding World. I'll take care of you and your children. I also promise to never let anyone know that you're pregnant. My oath as a Wizard and a Healer," Sam said.
Harry smiled at him. "Thanks, Sam. I knew I could trust you. You've been a great Healer and a great friend."
"You can make me dinner as payment for my kindness," Sam said jokingly.
"Okay," Harry said. "I think I would enjoy that. You need to bring Marlene with you though. Maybe you can play with Maverick. The bloody dog is annoying me. I just don't have the energy to play as hard as I use to."
"I think I can do that. My wife would enjoy not cooking for a night," Sam said with a laugh.
Harry woke up from his sleep. He knew something was wrong, but he couldn't tell what is was. He lifted his head up slowly and looked around the darkened room. There was no one in his room. So what was it? What was wrong?
He sat in the bed and glanced around warily. He frowned thoughtfully as he realized that there was nothing wrong that he could see. So what woke him up? He shifted on the bed and gasped as pain shot through his lower back. He moaned at the pain and tried to breathe through it. Merlin, that hurt. He took a deep breath and got out of the bed carefully. He stood up slowly only to bend over as pain shot through his abdomen. Crap, he was in labor. Oh god, it hurt.
He waddled over to the fireplace and activated it. The babies were early and he hoped that Sam was home. He grabbed some floo powder and threw it into the fire. "Sam!" he called out. "Damn it Sam, you had better be home."
He winced as a sharp pain shot through his abdomen again. He breathed through it slowly and yelled once again for his friend. "SAM! I'm in freaking labor. You had better be there."
"Harry?" Sam asked as he came stumbling into the living room.
Harry sighed in relief. "Thank god you're home. It seems that the children are early. I'm in labor."
"Are you sure?" Sam asked.
"No, I'm only in pain for the pure fun of it. Of course I'm sure, you nit-wit," Harry yelled out.
Sam snickered and said, "Yep, sounds like you're in labor. Okay, let me get my things and I'll be there in a few minutes. Go sit on the couch and make yourself as comfortable as you can."
Harry grumbled in annoyance. "Fine, but you better not forget about me or there will be hell to pay. I'll make what I did to Voldemort look like child's play," Harry said with a growl and waddled off to the couch.
Sam laughed and ran to get his bag. He made sure that his potions were stocked up and he rushed back to the fireplace. Harry's children were two weeks early. Sam had actually expected them earlier as it was well known that children from male pregnancies were born earlier. He wasn't too concerned though, the children were healthy and he had stocked up on his items. If things took a turn for the worst, he had friend on stand bye to help him. Sam knew that they wouldn't be able to make it to the clinic.
Sam stepped out of the fireplace and walked over to Harry. "You can get up and walk around if you want. It'll take a few minutes for me to set things up. We'll have to do this in your bedroom. Harry, I really think we should have someone else helping with this. I don't think I can do it by myself. I need someone to take care of the babies while I'm taking care of you," Sam explained.
Harry huffed and said, "Anybody else will probably tell the papers."
"The person I have in mind is very reliable. She won't tell anyone, I promise. I trust her with my life," Sam said seriously.
"That's great, but do you trust her with mine and my children's life?" Harry asked as he got onto the bed.
"Yes, I do," Sam said.
Harry looked at his friend and sighed. "All right, if you think you'll need the help then you can get her to help you, but I want a Wizard Oath from her. I don't want to take a chance that she might let it slip."
"I can do that. Get comfortable. You'll have to take off your pants. Give me a moment to floo my friend. I'll be back in a second," Sam said with a smile.
Harry grumbled as he moved around on the bed to take off his pants. He didn't like the idea of a stranger helping Sam, but if Sam said he needed the help then he was probably right. He sighed as he realized he was a bit nervous. Sam was going to take the baby by Cesarean Section. The thought of Sam cutting into his abdomen made him feel a little queasy. Of course, that could be the babies. He moaned as a contraction ripped through his abdomen. He couldn't wait until the babies were out.
Sam came into the room with a woman following her. Harry looked at her and his eyes widened in shock. "Poppy!" he exclaimed.
Madame Pomfrey looked at him in surprise. "Who? Harry? Is that you?" she asked in disbelief. She looked at his stomach and asked with a wry grin, "What did you do now?"
Harry chuckled and said, "Oh, you know, a little bit of this, a little bit of that."
"Does anyone else know?" she asked seriously.
Harry bit his lip and shook his head. "I haven't spoken to anyone but the Headmaster since I graduated. Even he doesn't know that I'm pregnant," he said softly. "I'm sure you realize what would happen if the papers found out about my condition."
Poppy nodded her head understanding. "I do indeed. I must say that when Sam firecalled me for my help, I didn't expect this."
Harry grinned at her. "If I had known it was you that he was calling, I wouldn't have been so hesitant about it. I know you'll keep my secret."
"Indeed I will, Mr. Potter," she said crisply.
Sam grinned at them. "Now that we gotten that taken care of, why don't we get started. I'm sure Harry would like to have the babies taken out and soon."
"Why, no Sam, I'm enjoying the pain. It makes me think fondly of the Crucio curse," Harry growled out.
Sam swallowed a laugh. "Indeed." He opened his bag and pulled out a potions bottle. He handed it to Harry. "Drink this. It's a pain reliever that will not harm the babies." Harry grabbed it gratefully and swallowed it down. He sighed in relief as the pain dulled.
Poppy looked at Harry in surprise. "Babies?" she asked.
Harry grinned up at her. "Yea, I'm having twins. A boy and a girl," he said proudly.
"Congratulations, Harry," she said with a kind smile.
"All right, Harry. I need you to lie down on the bed. I'm going to numb the area that I need to cut. Once I've made my incision, I will carefully pull the baby out. I'll hand the baby over to Poppy and then I'll get the other one. I want you to let me know if you feel any pain whatsoever. Feeling pressure is perfectly normal, so unless its really intense, it's nothing to worry about," Sam explained.
Harry nodded in understanding as he watched Poppy set up the small indented table where she would place the babies after they were born. He watched as she gathered towels, warm water and other miscellaenous items. Harry took a deep breath and looked over at Sam. "Ready when you are," he said with a grimace.
"All right, here we go," he said. He took his wand and aimed it at Harry's abdomen. "Torpescere," he said. Harry squirmed a little as his abdomen became numb. Sam aimed his wand at Harry's abdomen again and muttered, "Caedo." The spell cut through the layers of skin, fat and muscle. He made the incision wide enough to pull out the baby. He sterilized his hands and put on some gloves. He reached into the incision, dug around gently, and grabbed ahold of the first baby. Gently he pulled the head through the opening, and bracing the baby's head, he pulled the rest of the body through the incision. The baby started to cry and Sam looked down at the baby and smiled. "It's a girl," he said to Harry.
Sam handed the baby over to Poppy and reached in to grab ahold of the second child. He pulled him gently through the incision and looked down at the baby boy. The little boy started to wail and he handed him off to Poppy. "You're doing good, Harry. It looks like your children are fine. You have a healthy baby boy and girl. Give me a moment to clean you up and heal you and you can hold your children. Well, as soon as Poppy is done with them, that is."
Tears had filled Harry's eyes when he heard his daughter's first cry. He sniffled at the thought of being a father. He only wished that he had the courage to let Remus and Severus know about them. When he heard his son's cry, he began to cry softly. He was so happy that they were all right. He had been worried that something was going to happen during the delivery. He was glad to see that he was wrong. He watched as Poppy dried off his children, cleaned them up and did a series of test on them. Poppy looked up at Harry and smiled. "They are beautiful children Harry, and they are in perfect health," she said.
Poppy waited as Sam healed and cleaned Harry up. He banished the bloody sheets and clothes. When he finally finished, Poppy brought Harry's daughter over to him and placed her carefully in his arms. Harry glanced down at his daughter and caught his breath as he felt awe and love at the sight of his daughter. This was Remus's child. She had his tawny colored hair that was streaked with red highlights and his cheekbones. Sadly, it looked like her hair might be as messy as Harry's. It was still too early to tell what color of eyes she was going to have, but he could see the flecks of gold and amber in her dark blue eyes. He knew that it was the sign of her shapeshifting ability. "Oh, aren't you a beautiful precious thing," he whispered. "I wish your daddy was here to see you." He stroked her nose and chuckled as her nose scrunched up in annoyance.
Poppy cleared her throat to get his attention. "Here is your son," she said. She carefully set him in Harry's arm and gently picked up Harry's daughter. Harry looked down at his son and grinned. This was definitely Severus's child. He already had Severus's disgruntled expression. His hair was black and he had Severus's chin. Luckily, he had Harry's nose. His eyes were dark and Harry had a feeling they would turn black as he got older.
"So, what are you going to name them?" Sam asked as Harry gazed at his son.
"My son's name is Adair Corbin Potter and my daughter's name is Katherine Darcie Potter," Harry replied.
"Lovely names," Poppy said.
"Yes, I thought so," Harry said as he yawned. He blinked sleepily and glanced at his friends. "I'm a tad sleepy. Could you watch my children while I rest?" he asked.
Sam smiled and replied, "I would love to. Poppy, you take Katherine and I'll take Adair. You get some sleep, Harry. Your body needs the rest."
Harry smiled at them and closed his eyes, drifting of to sleep. Sam glanced down at the young man who had become his friend and sighed.
"What is it, Sam?" Poppy asked.
"I just wish he would tell the fathers of his children the truth. I don't like the thought of him raising them alone," he said softly.
"Fathers?" Poppy asked in surprise.
"Um…yes, they have different fathers. I was quite surprised by that. Harry must be a very powerful Wizard for that to happen," Sam said.
"I see," Poppy said thoughtfully. "Well, that does make some sense."
Sam looked over at his friend and asked, "What does?"
"I think I know who the fathers of his children are. Sadly, since I promised Harry, I can't say a thing to them. I think they would love to know about the babies," she said with a sigh.
"Damn oath," Sam muttered and Poppy laughed.
"Harry will tell them when it's time. I don't see him holding out much longer as it is. Harry is big on families staying together. He'll eventually break down and tell them," Poppy said. She smiled down at the little girl she now knew belonged to Remus. Their recent subduded attitude and some of the things she overheard in the halls made much more sense. "Don't you worry, little one. Before too long, you'll have all of your fathers with you and your brother."
Sam sighed heavily. "I hope so, Poppy, I really do. Come on, let's go take these tykes out into the living room. Harry needs his rest." With a glance at the sleeping man, they walked out of the bedroom.
