I’m just playing with her world, but Marvin is mine people and if you even
think about touching him I’ll hex you into oblivion! (Or set Lucius on
you. You decide which is worse.)
Chapter 2: Commencement
Marvin nervously picked at his
black graduation gown and adjusted his square hat. The green and white tassel insisted upon
slipping to hang in front of his eyes. His
hair had grown a bit long and he wondered if maybe he should have had it trimmed. Oh well, it was definitely too late. The ceremony was set to begin in a few
moments.
A hand landed on his shoulder and
he jumped, whirling about only to be greeted by laughing cobalt eyes. “Are you a bit jumpy, Marvin?”
He scowled at Lucius
and smoothed his hands down the front of his gown once more. “Well, I do have a few people who want to off
me. Seeing as how I’m only down to you
protecting me it might be better to surrender.”
“You’ve lasted this long without young Mr. Krivdal and that shrew sister of his. You should have more faith in me at this
point, don’t you think?” Lucius sounded very serious, but his eyes were still laughing
at Marvin. “Besides, Severus and Harry
have arrived with the rest of your guests and are seated.”
Marvin smiled. “Well, I suppose I’ll live to fight another
day then.”
“Yes, but still see that you stay out of
trouble anyway. At least until we get to
the celebratory buffet.”
Looking at Lucius
as though he might have had a bit too much sun that day, Marvin asked. “And why’s that? Afraid they won’t let you in to eat if I get
knocked off?”
Lucius sighed. “Of course not, it’s just that the only
platters I’ve noticed in the vicinity were all at the buffet.”
Marvin just stared at the blond
wizard for a moment before he burst out laughing. Several of his classmates standing nearby
gave him odd looks. A few of the girls
were eyeing Lucius and Marvin sighed, wondering if
he’d have to endure another evening of the arrogant Malfoy
preening over all the attention he got.
Not that he had really minded the past nine months with Lucius. Once the man
got over his initial excitement at getting to live in the muggle
world for almost a year, he stopped dragging Marvin to all the stores in the
town, embarrassing him at every turn.
Still, Marvin had no intention of ever forgiving Lucius
for the tampon incident. Ever.
“Who all came then,” Marvin asked
quietly. He studied Lucius
clothing while waiting for an answer.
Thankfully, the man had forgone the white leather bodysuit, but he was
wearing a white leather duster jacket and silver framed sunglasses. Oh well, at least his hair wasn’t done up in
braids Caribbean style.
“Ron and Draco, of course,
as well as Miss Weasley, Sirius Black, and Arthur.” Lucius had a
strange smile and Marvin wondered just what Arthur had decided to wear to the
ceremony. He said a silent prayer in the
hopes that Harry had helped the man dress.
One of the professors was
beginning to urge the graduates to line up.
“You’d better go and get seated.”
Lucius
nodded. “Don’t be too nervous,
Marvin. Just remember that we’re all here
and proud of you.”
The wizard strode off before
Marvin could reply so he simply stood and stared after him in shock. Maybe he wouldn’t torture Lucius
too much this summer. Though
he had come up with some interesting ideas for revenge with Draco. They still had the pictures of Lucius in drag that Justin had snapped. Devil in a blue dress indeed.

Harry watched as the graduate
began to walk up onto the stage one at a time to receive their diplomas. He, Draco, and Ron were all on the edges of
their seats, craning their necks to see where Marvin was seated. Harry didn’t know how Severus could sit there
so calm. It had been months since they’d
seen Marvin and by this time the next day they would hopefully be back at
Hogwarts with him. When he thought about
the interesting news Dumbledore had given them that morning it made him even
more excited. The summer would be quite
interesting if he responded well to the Headmaster’s request.
Harry leaned over to Ron. “This is killing me! Why did they have to go in alphabetical order
anyway?”
Ron chuckled. “Easy, mate.
It’s not as though they’re going to up and decide not to give it to
him. You just have to wait for the Vs.”
Harry sighed. “I guess you’re right. I just want to get him out of here. It doesn’t feel safe.”
Severus snorted and whispered,
“You mean you feel like a walking target with Weasley
senior dressed up like a giant canary.
Who gave him that suit?”
Draco smirked and joined the
conversation. “Dumbledore.”
The entire group of men rolled
their eyes.
Ginny elbowed Harry and he gave
her a hurt look. “Be quiet you lot. You’re going to get yourselves kicked out and
ruin Marvin’s day.”
There was a chorus of muttered
“Yes, Ginny” and they all fell silent.
After what felt like at least another two hours the dean had finally
arrived at the Vs.
“Marvin Vindeau!”
The group of wizards (and witch)
watched with bright smiles as their muggle friend
approached the podium and accepted his diploma.
After he had shaken the dean’s hand, he turned and held his diploma up
in the air. Ron, Ginny, Draco, and Harry
leapt to their feet and began to cheer loudly.
It only lasted for a moment, but the smile on Marvin’s face (which
Sirius caught with a camera) would remain in their memories for a long time to
come.

Severus smiled as Marvin came
running towards them after the ceremony came to a close. The happy muggle
grabbed each of them in turn into a bone crushing hug and planted a chaste kiss
on Ginny Weasley’s cheek. Severus felt quite proud of the young man
when he rather eloquently congratulated the witch on her engagement and his
happiness at being included in the upcoming wedding. Severus smirked. The poor girl had hardly been congratulated
properly once while Severus was in earshot.
Mostly she got something along the lines of “It’s about time” or “So
when should we expect the first baby”.
She didn’t deserve the ribbing.
Potter maybe, but not her. Of
course, it served her right for being willing to marry the insufferable whelp
of James Potter.
It was a fate he wished on no one even if he was
tolerating the man better these days.
“Marvin, did you want to stay for the feast,”
Severus asked cautiously. He wanted the
hell away from all these young muggles. He’d heard strange things about their
celebratory behavior.
Marvin shrugged. “Not really.
We could just as well go to my place and order some pizza from
Domino’s.”
Severus glanced at Lucius who looked very amused. His old friend had often mentioned in his
letters that Marvin and Justin Krivdal seemed to
subsist on pizza, something called Coca-Cola, and Spam. They claimed it was college food. Severus thought it sounded like heart failure
waiting to happen. “Very well, we should
get on our way then.”
He noticed Weasley’s
face brighten. “Yeah, Marv! We need
to get pac…”
Severus smirked as Miss Weasley stepped on her brother’s foot. Marvin looked a bit suspicious. “I already have my suitcases packed. I thought you guys wanted to leave early in
the morning.”
“We do,” Harry said quickly. “Or we did anyway, but Albus
said he wants to stop by before hand and secure your home for while you’re
away.”
“Nothing happened to it last time.” Marvin was definitely suspicious. Never let it be said that the man Severus Snape had chosen to call his younger brother missed a thing
happening before him.
They proceeded to the door and
almost made it out when a tiny girl stepped in front of Potter. “You look like Harry Potter.”
“Er…” Potter was eloquent as always. “Do I really?”
“Oh!
You even have the accent!” The
child glanced about and then leaned in close to Potter. “Are you Harry Potter?” The child looked
towards Severus then and he became nervous.
Silly muggle child,
and they couldn’t clear her memory with everyone about. “And you look like Professor Snape. That would
make you Ginny and Ron,” she said, looking at the two redheads. She looked at Draco and Sirius, but seemed to
disregard them. When her eyes landed on Lucius she seemed to recognize him. “You look like one of those ghost guys on The
Matrix Reloaded, but your hair is wrong.”
Lucius
smiled. “Really?”
Severus glanced at Marvin to see
what he thought of all this and caught the muggle
rolling his eyes. His blue eyes twinkled
as he stepped closer to the child. “Stop
playing with them, Wendy.”
The little girl’s brown eyes went
wide. “How did you know it was me?”
“Your mom showed me your picture. How did you get here?”
“It’s a secret,” the little girl said with a
grin.
Severus didn’t miss that Marvin
suddenly seemed very worried. Was the
girl not a muggle?
Had she actually recognized all of them?
“Wendy Jean, how did you get here?” Marvin’s tone was quite firm and he had moved
to kneel right in front of the girl, placing his hands gently on her shoulders.
The girl’s eyes welled up with tears and she
bit her lip. “I didn’t mean to. Mommy and uncle Justin kept talking about how
they were sad to miss your graduation and I thought it would be nice to be here
because mommy said you wanted to meet me and that you were uncle Justin’s
friend and I really don’t know what happened because I was just sitting there
and then I was here and there were all these people, but I wasn’t scared
because I saw you and then I saw Harry Potter and nothing would happen to me
with Harry Potter here and…”
Marvin silenced the girl by
lifting her up into a gentle hug. “And
you Apparated.
Am I right, Severus? It was just
a burst of spontaneous magic, right?”
Severus nodded. Whose daughter was this? Uncle Justin…did the Krivdal
aurors have another sibling that he hadn’t been
informed of? “Marvin,
who is this?”
“Oh, I’m sorry! This is Miss Wendy Jean Krivdal. She’s Ginger’s daughter from before…” Marvin stopped and glanced down at the tiny
blond in his arms.
The little girl,
who couldn’t have been older than four or five, continued to explain. “Daddy’s in heaven with great-grandpa Egbert. That’s a
funny name. I called him Puhpuh
Egg. It made him laugh.”
Severus scowled and silently
wondered how everyone had failed to inform him that Miss Krivdal
had a daughter. Why weren’t they using
the husband’s name? Not that he cared
about any of this. No, he quite
assuredly didn’t care at all.
