Chapter 2
Her
first trip into Flourish and Blott’s bookstore proved
to be too overwhelming for her. She had always been fairly recognizable to the
owners since she was in the bookstore at every trip to Diagon Alley since she
had turned eleven, but that trip was insane. Upon entering the store she had
been discreetly greeted by Mr. Flourish with a nod and a bigger smile than she
usually got. Hermione then went on her way picking up the required texts for
term and then proceeded to peruse books that would catch her interest. She was
about half way through the potions aisle when she realized that there were
several people looking expectantly at her from in between the books of the
other shelves and from the other end of the aisle. Trying to ignore the stares
of people she continued to scan the books in front of her as a distraction. She
eventually began to feel nervous when she realized that there were people all
around her on either side of the aisle trying to get a look at her and
effectively trapping her in between the tight rows of books. Hermione was never
one to feel upset by tight spaces but she was beginning to get worried. She could
tell that people were whispering and pointing at her daring each other to talk
to her or go up to her. She was startled when one of the patrons who were
staring rather intensely at her finally came up to where she was standing. He
was an older gentleman, probably in his mid 30’s or so. She saw from her peripheral
vision that he was coming up on her left and she quickly tried to be immersed
in whatever book she just happened to pick off of the shelf.
Gilderoy
Lockhart’s Guide to Get Gorgeous Potions.
‘Shit,’ she
thought to herself. ‘I couldn’t have
picked an actual book.’
As the man approached Hermione she noticed that he
had a lecherous look in his eyes. Quite frankly the man made the hairs on the
back of her neck stand at attention. She smelt the pungency of his cologne and
before she knew what was happening he was blocking the left entrance to the
aisle. Because she had her hands full of books, she wasn’t able to palm her
wand with out being overly noticed. When she had turned to politely ask the man
to leave her alone she saw that he was raking his eyes hungrily over her form.
‘You’ve got to
be kidding me,” she thought to herself. ‘Doesn’t
he know that I’ve killed people before?’
“Aren’t you
Hermione Granger?” asked the man, his voice sounded like oil to Hermione.
“Ah, yes I am,
May I help you?” she replied evenly. The next thing she knew the man had
her pressed against the bookshelf and was pawing through her robes and kissing
her roughly as the other patrons were straining to look on in a mixture of
shock and disbelief. Hermione in all the commotion had dropped her books and
immediately went for her wand in order to hex the man. Before she could get the
chance to fire off a hex at her attacker she heard the sickening sound of flesh
breaking bones.
“Crack!”
Hermione remembered looking down at the stunned man
lying on the ground clutching his bloodied nose and then up into the dark eyes
of Severus. With out saying a word he extended his hand to her and pulled her
out of the bookstore, the bewildered patrons parting for the pair as they hastily
made their way out of the store. He had pulled her into the closest alley way
next to the bookstore.
“Miss Granger.”
Was all he said with a nod to a still befuddled looking Hermione and then
he dsapparated with a resounding ‘pop’. Hermione regained her wits though she
was slightly shaken, and headed off to find her friends, all the while ignoring
the warm sensation that she was feeling in the pit of her stomach. When she
found her friends, she was met with puzzling looks about why she was back from
the bookstore with out any books. She shrugged and told them she had them sent
to Hogwarts for her, not wanting to have to tell them about the incident, also
making a note to herself to owl the bookstore so she didn’t have to go back
there. That was just before the term started.

Since
she had been back to school she felt that the world was finally back to its normal pace. Classes were back to normal,
everyone felt more relaxed and there wasn’t nearly as much animosity between
the houses as before. Dumbledore had even announced at the start of term feast
that there would be a masked Halloween Ball this year as a way to celebrate the
demise of Voldemort which would not only include the school, but also those who
were responsible for helping in the war against Voldemort. This announcement
made the entire hall talk with much anticipation of the event to come.
Classes
were much of the same for Hermione. She was no longer the girl who was
constantly raising her hand in trying to give all the answers. Instead she sat
quietly giving her other classmates a chance to answer the questions and to
receive house points. In her more advanced classes like transfiguration and
potions she would wait for Professors McGonagall and Snape to call on her for
answers. She knew that it was their way of challenging her knowledge.
Snape, Severus Snape. Hermione had found that since the incident in Flourish
and Blott’s, the man had been on her mind more than a
few times. Shortly after term started she noticed that every once and a while
she would find herself staring at the man for no reason. Well, she did have a
reason. He had nice eyes; the kind you could get lost in. ‘Did I just think that?’ With a deep sigh she had to admit that yes
indeed she was beginning to think that Severus was attractive. Sure he wasn’t
classically good looking, but she had always noticed when they were working
together he looked like the classical Greek statues she saw once in the Museum of Natural
History.
Pale like fine marble, tall and graceful with a nose that was more aquiline
that beak-like. He had a voice that was a timber of delicious bitter chocolate
and long graceful hands that she just knew that if they had a chance, they would
be good, no sublime at other things than just stirring cauldrons.
Occasionally
Hermione would find herself drifting off during one of his lectures in potions.
She would always catch herself before he could discover her day dreaming, but
on an occasion she would look up to find him looking at her before they both
turned away. He would always have an odd look on his face when she caught him
looking at her, one that she just couldn’t pin down but he wouldn’t deduct
house points from her or make snide remarks like in previous years which she
thought was weird, but then again who was she to look a gift horse in the
mouth.

By
the beginning of October Hermione realized that she had a major crush on
Severus. At first she passed her thoughts off that it was a deep admiration of
the man; after all he was extremely gifted and a war hero to boot. But after
thinking about him and the occasional day dream about, he became the main
player in her dreams at night. First it was just him saving her from the man in
the bookstore, and the look that was in his eyes at the time but then it began
to be about the looks from him and what sort of promise that they held for her.
She knew that he never looked remotely sexual at her, but that never stopped
her from hoping that one day he might.
Eventually
her dreams about the Potions Master became more explicit in detail. He would
start out by kissing her and stroke her skin as the flame of desire burned in
the pit of her stomach. Severus, as she always thought of him now, would slowly
undress her, licking his way down the smooth column of her neck and décolleté making
his way slowly across her breasts. In her dreams he would tease her swollen
nipples, rolling each between his fingers before laving them with his tongue,
his hands traveling down to her nest of curls, dragging a finger across her
moist lips. She would shudder as jolts
of desire raced through her nerve system pooling deep in her loins, her hand
running through his hair and blazing a trail across his scorching hot skin as
he tortured her by caressing between her legs. He would pick her up and take
her to bed where he would begin make love to her. That was when she would
usually wake up covered in a light sheen of sweat and dripping with sticky
moisture from between her legs. On most nights she would see release herself be
it by her own fingers or the candle on her nightstand that she would transfigure
into a moderately sized dildo. Her dreams would have her so worked up that she
would cum in no time with Severus’ name always on her lips and always thankful
for having her own room.
A
week or two ago she found herself staring at Severus over breakfast one
morning. She was thinking about a previous night’s dream that involved her
uniform and a detention when she realized that he was looking at her quite
intently in fact. Quickly looking away she realized that she was blushing but
even more so than that she remembered that the man was a skilled Legilimens and could have easily been
reading her thoughts since they were practically calling his name. Hermione
mentally slapped herself and excused herself from the table and headed for the
library before Ron or Harry noticed anything amiss with her.

Up
at the head table the exchange between the Potions Master and the Head Girl
hadn’t gone unnoticed by some.
“Look
at them Albus, do you think that they realize it yet?” asked Minerva McGonagall
the Transfiguration Mistress nodding her head in direction of the Head Girl and
the Potions Master.
“No
I don’t think they do Minnie, after all it did take us quite a few years to
realize our attraction,” said Dumbledore with his usual twinkle in his eyes. “I
think they may need a little bit of help though.”
“Albus
Dumbledore! You aren’t planning on meddling are you?” McGonagall said jokingly.
“No meddling my dear, merely helping them along,” he said while
patting her hand. “You’ll just have to wait and see.”

Hermione lay back on her bed and thought about the
day that she shared her secret with Ginny and how her costume would come into
play.
She couldn’t take it anymore; Hermione needed someone
to talk with about her budding infatuation. During the day’s first free period Hermione
pulled Ginny into a deserted class room. After warding the door against
interruptions Hermione began to speak.
“I
need your advice,” the older witch said.
“Sure
Mione, what’s going on?” the redhead said.
“I’m
not even sure where to begin really,” Hermione said while beginning to pace the
length of the room. “You know I’ve always fancied myself a level headed person,
and that I’ve never really had a life outside of school and the war, and it’s
not like I don’t like guys I just never had the time…”
“Mione,
Please calm down, just say it already!” Ginny said
with a light teasing sound to her voice.
Hermione
stopped her pacing momentarily and regarded her friend for a short time before
taking a deep breath.
“Not
anything would ever happen but…,” she began letting out the breath that she had
been holding, “IlikeprofessorSnape!” Hermione
finished out her declaration with a squeak and promptly covered her face which
she was sure was red with embarrassment, in her hands.
“I’m
sorry I couldn’t catch what you said, it came flying out your mouth,” said a
smirking Ginny Weasley in a sing song voice.
Hermione
gritted her teeth as she spoke.
“I
said I. Like. Professor.
Snape.”
“There
now, was that so hard to say?” said Ginny gently laughing at the distressed
woman in front of her. .
“That’s
all you have to say about what I just said?” stated a bewildered Hermione. “I realize
that it was quite shocking, but cut me some slack here! I’m serious and this is
a serious matter!” said Hermione, her voice rising to a shrill level by the end
of her speech.
“Actually
Miss Granger,” Ginny said in a more serious tone, “I’m not at all surprised. What
I find surprising about this is that it took you this long to figure it out.”
Hermione
just stared slack-jawed at Ginny.
“I
mean come on Hermione, I’ve noticed that you seem a bit more than preoccupied
with the man as of late, not to mention that I’ve seen him do almost the same
with you. You both have a lot more in common than I think that you realize and I
think, no I know that the boys here would never do it for you. You need a man. A smart man. A smart man who happens to be dead sexy as well
and I’m sure would positively wicked in the sack.” Ginny finished up with a smile. “Now close
your mouth before the flies get in,” she threw in for
good measure.
Hermione
stood and stared at her friend for a while before speaking.
“You,
you think that he’s sexy too?” Hermione asked with a slight giggle.
“Mione,
please, the man may not be anywhere near my type, but his voice is like
auditory sex and he actually isn’t that bad looking. Sure he has some strong individual
features, but as a whole, the man is quite sexy in a ‘dangerous, my parents
would never agree’ kind of way.”
At
that point in Ginny’s description of Severus Hermione broke down in to a fit of
laughter, relaxing at the fact that she could finally confide to her best
friend the secret that she had been harboring for what felt like ages.
Sobering
up Hermione turned to Ginny.
“You
know that nothing is ever going to happen Gin, the one person that I want so badly
is the one person that I’ll never be able to have. Ever...”
“Now
don’t be so negative,” Ginny cut in.
“Oh
yeah like Severus is going to wake up one day and realize that the bane of his existence
for the past 61/2 years is suddenly the one woman in
the entire universe that he can’t go another day without.” Hermione stated her
hands gesturing wildly about trying to emphasize her point.
“Oh
just hush for a minute Hermione Granger! Huffed Ginny.
“I’ve seen since this summer that Snape, I mean Professor Snape,” she said at
Hermione’s glare, “has taken a liken or something towards
you. I mean, I see him looking at you from time to time in the great hall
during meals, and from what Harry and Ron say about potions class he has
stopped making malicious comments at you all together. What about when you
worked for him for the Order, surely you to developed a sort of relationship
working so closely right?”
Hermione
filled her friend in on what happened during the creation of the potion and the
times he saved her during the final battle. She even went on to tell Ginny
about the bookstore incident that happened before school. Naturally Ginny’s knee-jerk reaction to the pervert at the
bookstore was to become indignant about the situation as she ranted about the
general lack of security around Diagon Ally and why men can be such assholes
and how Hermione should have one of the boys with her at all time. Hermione sat
there and let her go she knew that she would catch on eventually.
“…I
mean of all the places the bookstore! Is nothing sacred? I mean…Wait! That means
that Sn…I mean Professor Snape saved you three times!
Oh my God!!! Mione! This is a good thing, I mean beyond him saving you from bad
situations. I think he cares for you!” Ginny finally blurted out.
“I
don’t know Gin…” Hermione began.
“Mione,”
Ginny began, “think about it, this is Professor Snape, not a nice man, three
times he saves your life, he could easily have left you in all situations, but
no, he saved you. Not only is it romantic, but it means we have something to
work with.”
“What
do you mean work with Gin?” Hermione nervously noted that Ginny had a mischievous
gleam to her eyes.
“You and the Professor, that’s
what I’m talking about and I know just how to go about it,” stated the younger
witch.
“You’re
insane is what you are!” Said Hermione a little more panicked that usual. “There
is no way that Severus is going to take any interest in me, especially while I’m
still in school. Hell has a better chance of freezing over before he even looks
my general direction as something other than a nuisance.”
“Mione,
we’re going to be dealing with a Slytherin here, the Head of Slytherin as a
matter of fact. Remember how at the beginning of term the Headmaster said that
we all should try to better understand the other houses?” Seeing Hermione nod
her head in compliance, Ginny continued on. “Well what better way to deal with
a Slytherin than to employ Slytherin tactics.”
Hermione still looked confused
at Ginny’s supposed solution to the problem. Noting Hermione’s uncertainty Ginny
said two words that would hopefully help friend find happiness.
“Halloween Ball.”

**Author’s Notes**
Thanks for the feedback so
far guys, I really appreciate it. I’m still new to being an author on the site.
I’ve been a reader for a while now and being an English major in university, I thought
that I’d give it a crack. I apologise to anyone if
for some reason the story looks too big (font) or what not. I’m not used to
publishing things online and it took me a while to figure out how to do it, but
I’m learning. I’ll try to add new chapters every few days.
Thanks again guys!
J.
JTBJAB: Thanks for catching
the spelling, I caught it in future chapters…I must have looked that chapter
over a dozen or more times and still didn’t get it! I did debate about the
flashback part as well. I wasn’t quite happy with the way I wrote it, but felt
that had I started from the beginning of it all would be making the story
longer and more complicated that I wanted to for my first try.
Firewall: Thanks for the
support! I’m really grateful for your feedback! Hope I don’t disappoint you!
