Chapter 2
Once Hermione made it back to Gryffindor Tower, she sluggishly made her way through the common room and up the stairs to the sanctity of her own rooms. Softly closing the door behind her and leaning against it, she slowly slid down the length of the wood until her bum hit the stone ground. She pulled her knees to her chest, resting her chin on them. Tears erupted from her eyes and she willed herself to breathe slowly and deeply to remain calm.
‘How could I have been so careless,’ she berated herself. ‘I showed the world my weakness, and to the one person that shouldn’t know. How am I to face him now?’
Lifting her head until it met the door; repeatedly, vexed with herself ‘Stupid, stupid, stupid!’
Finally, with a throbbing head, ‘Good it serves you right.’ She stared at the ceiling while little wet droplets slid down her face and onto her arms. The wetness on her arms mixed with the cold night air caused her body to tremble with chill. The chill wasn’t just from the night air, and she knew it. So she didn’t bother lighting a fire, it wouldn’t help. Coldness, it surrounded her and it slowly leaked into her heart. Sighing into the darkness of her cold and empty room, she closed her eyes and silently wished she could disappear. She sat trembling for Merlin knows how long before her mind and body gave into her emotional distress and slept. She didn’t even stir when her loyal familiar came and snuggled up against her rigid form trying to soothe the trembling.

The next morning she woke to pain, and geez it was a lot. She opened her eyes and found herself on the floor in front of her door. ‘Merlin’s beard, I stayed down here all night.’ A lazy mew emitting from beside her alerted her that someone was hungry and impatient. She turned and looked at her familiar, only to be greeted with a set of inquisitive eyes about their current where-about.
“Good morning Crooks, and don’t look at me like that. If you only knew what happen last night, you wouldn’t blame me,” she said while pulling herself up to her feet. A very annoyed mew from him startled her and she looked back down at him. The look he was giving her seemed to radiate that he knew exactly what had transpired and wasn’t at all amused. Shaking her head quickly trying to get rid of that silly notion that her cat actually knows, or even understood her or what happen; out of her head. She made her way over to the fireplace where his bed and food dishes reside, and with a simple swish and flick, his bowls filled with food and fresh water. “You’re welcome,” she tossed at him as she made her way to her private bathroom.
Oh the little joys of being Head Girl, private room, private bathroom, and private studying area. She didn’t really feel up to seeing anyone at this particular moment. Entering into the bathroom, she became quite aware that the pain pulsing through her body wasn’t the only thing present, small beads of sweat lined her forehead and her face was very flushed. She made her way to the sink and flicked on the tap while summoning a flannel. Soaking and ringing out the little piece of material she lifted it to her forehead to wipe the beads of sweat away. She looked into the mirror and noted that something was indeed off. Still leaning against the sink, she turned towards the sunken bathtub in the middle of the room and flicked her wand at it causing it to fill with water and vanilla bath soap. While the tub was filling and the room was singing with warmth and vanilla, she started to undress. When she started pulling her top off, she hesitated when the scent of him passed over her. She pulled the top completely off, leaving her standing in her knickers and staring wide eyed at her shirt.
Images of the night before flew in front of her eyes and she dropped the shirt to the stone floor as if she was burned. Tears threaten to come as she looked unblinkingly at it. Beads of sweat were returning to her brow and she mentally kicked herself out of her trance. ‘I won’t,’ was all she thought and she discarded her knickers and lowered herself into the tub. The warm water felt great around her aching body, chasing the tension from sleeping on the cold, hard stone floor away. However, the clamminess in her head would not go away so easily. She knew she was running a fever, but to go to Poppy and explain to her how she in fact got the fever was not an option for her. No, she would simply crawl into bed after her long bath and sleep it off in time for her detention tonight. ‘Oh Merlin’s… detention with ‘him’ tonight…, why didn’t he assign it to Flitch?’ She pondered the thought while washing her body, and when she couldn’t come up with an answer, she slid under the water to do the same with her hair. When she was satisfied that she was all clean, she pulled the plug with her toes and rose up out of the tub grabbing one of the two crimson towels that were hovering in the air for her. She wrapped one around her hair and used the other to dry her entire body. Her head started to grow clammier with each movement and the room started to slowly spin. She finished with her task at hand and decided to use her wand to dry her hair, even though she hated doing that because it always left her curls wild and unruly, but her fever was getting the best of her and she needed a quick fix.
Upon entering back into her room, she noticed a very full kitty sleeping in his bed near the fireplace. She drew her wand once again flicking it towards the hearth, and was rewarded with the crackling sounds of a fire. Crooks yawned appreciatively in her direction and curled back up to sleep. Feeling the fire slowly warm the room, she pulled herself into the softness of her bed and snuggled deep into the warmth of her covers. Unconsciousness came quickly and stayed far longer than she had anticipated.

The morning light crept into the dark and dreary chambers of Severus Snape from an enchanted window that Dumbledore had insisted on installing in the attempt to ‘brighten up’ Severus’s lonely room. He was still peacefully sleeping when a ray of light spread across his angelic face stirring him out of his slumber. He mumbled something under his breath and pulled his pillow over his face blocking out the insufferable light. While he attempted to fall back into slumber, the morning sunny skies slowly faded into dark angry storm clouds. Thunder rumbled in the distance as the storm approached from over the mountains that surrounded the back side of the castle. Severus pulled his pillow away from his face and returned it back to its proper place behind his head. He sheepishly lifted a heavy eye lid to glance at the now angry sky, ‘Finally, a day that reflects my mood.’ Smirking to himself, he closed his eyes in search of sleep once again. However, he noticed the thundering kept getting louder and louder as if to mock him and his search for sleep. Growling he turned over away from that damn window, ‘Curse Albus and his meddling.’ Unable to go back to sleep, he admitted defeat, which he absolutely hated doing. One simply does not defeat Severus Snape. ‘So is this a glimpse of how my Saturday is going to go,’ he thought to himself as he pulled himself towards his bathroom to wash up before returning to his room to dress. After dressing he ventured through his sitting room and headed out of his chambers and down the hall which would lead him to the Great Hall for breakfast.
He noticed when entering the hall that he was the last professor to claim his seat at the High Table. Once seated his plate filled with his favorite breakfast food and his mug filled with the most important thing, strong, black coffee. It was the only thing that would officially wake him; the rest of the staff knew not to engage with him until he had at least two cups in him. However, Albus seemed to sometimes get a kick out of asking ridiculous questions before his first cup was finished with. Remembering the damn window in his room that unpleasantly woke him this morning; he turned and glared at Albus with a growl deep in his throat. Albus simply gave him a friendly nod and smile, which made his blue eyes twinkle at him; Severus ducked his head back into his breakfast, ‘That damn twinkle can go to hell too.’
Thunder rumbled loudly all through breakfast catching some students off guard which would cause a squeak and a squeal here and there. When a first year girl from Hufflepuff down right screamed from one of the very loud crashes, Severus look out among the students and glared at her causing her to turn red and cover her face with her hands. Satisfied at the girl’s reaction, he did a quick survey of the rest of the tables and a very empty seat at the Gryffindor house table caught his attention. The two male dunderheads of the Golden Trio were there stuffing their faces, but their princess was very much missing. He tore his eyes away from the empty seat and fixed them on his plate once again. He wouldn’t think about it… about her… while sitting in the Great Hall for the entire world to see. No, he would wait until he was back in the seclusion of his chambers or office, where ever he ended up after breakfast. However, he knew one thing was for sure; she better show up for his detention tonight, or he would go looking for her and drag her down there himself.
