And so it continues with CHAPTER TWO
Finding Hermione in the library (the first place he looked-she was not amused), Harry showed her both parchments and asked for her opinions. After researching the vow, Vampyre, Lycans, and Veela-which took two days-she, Ron (who decided to withhold his opinions until Hermione explained things) and Harry sat on Harry's bed, all available Privacy Charms in place.
"First of all, Professor Snape had no choice. Even if he'd tried, the Unbreakable Vow would have taken over and he would have done it anyway. The thing about the vow is that no matter what, it takes over your body like the Imperious Curse. You have no control over your actions."
After nearly twenty minutes of debate (and two reference books the witch had brought with her) it was unanimously agreed that, while still a great greasy bat of a git, Snape was not evil incarnate.
"Moving on, Vampyre. Chances are, Harry, he knew you were his mate the moment you walked into the school when we were eleven. Vampyre are attracted to psychic energy. He's probably only been so hard on you because he can't claim you until your seventeenth birthday. Detentions and stuff were a way for him to spend time with you so that he could calm his nature and not pounce on you in class. He has no control over who his mate is, and the law clearly states that, because Vampyre are born, not created like Vampires, and have no need to drink blood-except small amounts a day from their mate-they can take their mate by force if necessary. After they come of age, of course. So, in all honesty, you have no control either."
Another two reference books (both law, because there was little written about Vampyre) and an intense hour of screaming later, Harry was resigned to the fact that he had to allow himself to be "claimed". Evidently it would be less painful.
Hermione didn't bother to explain that Lycans knew their mate by magic and had no control-and neither did the mate. They had all researched Lycans in order to better befriend the former Defense professor. The Trio felt the need to avoid social faux pas, if you will, while speaking to him.
In fact, all Ron said was, "Hell, mate, he's probably known since you were an infant." Which started a side conversation about whether or not his parents had known, and what they thought about it, which led them pleasurable off track for half an hour before they remembered that there was still one "creature" left to go.
"Veela have the power to enthrall, which diminishes after they've claimed their mate. They find their mate by scent, and come into their 'inheritance' at seventeen. I think Draco turned seventeen May second. Anyway, their enthrall powers are used to entice their mate, but they can identify their mate nearly a year before they come of age. This gives them the ability to woo their mate for a year before claiming them. They have no control who their mate is, and can take their mate by force if necessary. Chances are that he's literally going insane without you.
They all are, really. They will protect you with their lives, they will want to avenge the slightest 'besmirchment' on your honor, they will love you fiercely, and they won't hurt you as long as you agree to be claimed now-and actually go through with it on your birthday. Anything they do to avenge or protect you is covered under the 'Magical Beings Natural Reactions' Law, 'Mates' addendum, paragraph twenty-three, section two, subsection 8.5763b."
After an astounding twelve reference books, a copy of the mentioned law-which they memorized-and debates that led them through supper, a sleepless night, breakfast, and what should have been their last day of classes (the Headmistress excused them, since she knew what they were discussing) it was agreed.
They needed more information.
After asking Hagrid-who explained that he could accept them all or watch them kill each other trying to prove their worth, and that they would most likely try spoiling and smothering him to death this close to his coming of age-several questions, they sat under "their" tree at the edge of the lake in silence. Each was quite firmly lost in their own thoughts. Not two minutes later, Hagrid joined them.
"Ta be perfekly 'onest, 'm surprised ya d'ent ask 'bout matin season. It starts just after yer birthday, ya know."
No, they didn't know.
"Fer all three of 'em. An, fore you ask, they kin all get you pregnant. Jus thought ya should know."
With Hagrid's assistance and input (and another sleepless night) it was agreed-Harry was going to be claimed by three "Beings" 'They don' rightly like ta be called creatures, 's why I don' teach 'bout 'em. They ain't dark, jus' misunderstood' who, they learned after breakfast-with two pepper ups and tons of coffee apiece-would be staying (indeed, already were) with the Dursley's in order to be near Harry.
