A Wish for Wings that...

“Thank you, Harry. Its perfect.” Kingsley held the watch up to the firelight before strapping it to his wrist. Harry leaned over excitedly, pointing to one of its many fiddly knobs.

“This bit, this one right here, if you press it, it will give you a voice update. And it has a Harry hand like the Weasley clock and you can add more to it and it…”

Kingsley just laughed and pulled the excited Gryffindor into his lap, kissing him to shut him up.

“Mpph!”

“You are adorable when you babble. Love Christmas, do you?”

“Yes! It’s my favorite time of year. I’m just glad you weren’t on call this year.”

“No doubt. I’m happy too. How about your other gift?” Kingsley nodded towards the large box in the corner, half hidden by the tree.

You didn’t have to ask Harry twice. Harry scrabbled over, tugging it towards the carpet and Kingsley. He sat down cross-legged and proceeded to tear into the box.

Or tried to.

Kingsley looked on fondly as Harry wrestled with the large box, becoming more and more frustrated with the wrapping.

“Argh. What did you do to it, use an entire roll of Spellotape?”

“No. I ordered it pre-wrapped. I’ve never even seen it. You could use your wand.”

“Na. Seems like cheating somehow. Aha.” Harry finally found an area of weakness to exploit and began to unravel the paper. When it was finally undone he grasped the lid and lifted, looking down.

“Uh.”

Kingsley couldn’t see into the box due to the angle, but the look on Harry’s face wasn’t what he was expecting. “What’s wrong? Is it the wrong size? I thought the box was too big. I can send it back for a-” Harry removed the large, fuzzy, bobble-eyed Magpie head. “Oh.”

“That’s a-”

“Mascot costume.”

“Not the-”

“Not a cheerleading uniform, no.”

“Huh.”

“My thoughts exactly.”

Kingsley looked pensive for a moment then sighed. “Well, that puts a bit of a crimp in tonight’s plans.”

“Not necessarily.”

“What do you mean?” There was no way Kingsley could miss the unholy glee in those mischievous green eyes.

“So, how do you feel about plushies?”
