So It Begins..
Ch1: So It Begins…
“I have I told you all that I really hate portkeys?” Harry Potter asked grumpily, unconsciously brushing his jet black eyes over his world renowned lighting bolt scar, coming unsteadily to his feet
“And you know that until you learn how to apparete you have no other choice but to use a portkey.” Hermione stated matter-of-factly, she had been there for a few minutes having apparated as soon as the Auror members of the Order said it was clear.
“But that doesn’t mean I have to like it.” Harry muttered, sending Hermione a look that clearly stated he wasn’t in the mood.
“Come on everyone, the trial’s about to start.” a new voice impatiently cut in before any arguments could be started.
It was Remus. His back was to the newly arrived group, his face towards the Ministry Of Magic entrance, and despite that fact everyone could tell that he had had an extremely rough night; the night before having been the full moon. He had told everyone in the Order weeks prior that due to the fact that he had no Wolfsbane, he could not give his location, for their own safety.
He looked like hell. His already baggy eyes were so heavy that they had an almost swollen appearance to them. His usually cheerful face was sullen and his usually mischievous eyes were dull and cold. There was a thin sheen a sweat on his brow that had nothing to do with the comfortable and breezy June day.
Before anyone would say anything his voice cut in again, this time with a sharpness and coldness that wasn’t there a few minutes ago.
“Lets just go in, listen to their sorry ass excuses and then watch get sentenced to what they deserve. I just want to forget that bastard once and for all.”
No one had time to reprehend him (Mrs.Weasley and McGonagall) on his language in front of the children, or ask him who he was talking about (everyone else), because he was already half way to the Ministry entrance, leaving everyone scrambling to gather their wits and follow him.
No one knew why he was acting like that, but pretty much everyone thought it had something to do with Snape. Selfish bastard couldn’t even make Remus any Wolfsbane to last him until he would find someone else to make it for him before he went and got himself caught.
Harry was the first one behind Remus, so he was able to get there just as the guards began casting several complex locking spells on the doors.
“There’s some more people coming, so keep the doors open for them.” Harry said, just pausing enough to look the guards in the face, his eyes and tone cold, his posture leaving no mistake about who he was and the respect that he, not only deserved but expected.
He and Ron had decided that since everyone wanted something from him (getting rid of Voldemort), then they would have to do some things for him. Hermione didn’t quite believe that was the way to go about it, but since she had blown up on Ron and Harry for telling her that they were gay, they hadn’t looked at her the same way. “Besides if Harry doesn’t take a stand now, then people will never have any real respect for him.” Ron had pointed out to her when they told her of their plan. She blew up about that too.
While mulling over Hermione and her sudden coldness towards everyone, not something major, but still there, Harry made his way towards the stands where he and the other were expected to sit.
According to Tonks, they were for witnesses and potential witnesses (if while under the effects of Veritserum, the defendants happened to mention someone’s name, then that person would become a potential witness in convicting or proving innocent the defendants). Because of the Order’s involvement with Snape and Snape teaching Harry and the others they were expected to sit there.
Besides Remus and Harry there were five other people already sitting there, boys that seemed to be around Harry’s age. Harry had never seen theses boys before, not at Hogwarts, anywhere in or around Diagon Alley, not even in Muggle London. Who were these boys? Obviously they weren’t Muggles or else they wouldn’t be able to see let alone enter the Ministry building.
Before Harry could analyze the boys any further, the others came and sat down, forcing Harry to sit down. A few other members cast curious looks at the mysterious boys, but other than that they were ignored.
One of the Ministry members stood up, a tall heavyset man that had a mustache just like Uncle Vernon’s. Harry instantly didn’t like this man. And when he spoke, his tone was the same as Uncle Vernon’s. Oh, yes. Harry definitely didn’t like this man.
“Everyone please be seated. The trial will start shortly, but first let’s go over a few things. First before we bring out the prisoners/defendants, know that we have already dosed them heavily with Veritaserum. As the prisoners/defendants come up memories will be taken from them to go along with their statements. If you appear or mentioned in any of their memories or statements then the appropriate memories/statements will have to be taken from you as well.”
Here he paused to let that information sink in and the room fill with conversation. Some people were saying how that was an invasion of their privacy and how they weren’t the ones on trial while others talked about their own memories they were sure to get them immediately kissed. When everyone had calmed down, he spoke again.
“Also anyone who has any memory to contribute must be given a strong dose of Veritaserum, as that is the only way to make sure that the memory is truthful and untampered with.” He turned and took two steps toward the judges table before turning around again “And for those of you who didn’t know, which is pretty much everyone, of all the people captured at Malfoy Manor, only the Malfoys and Severus Snape stated that they wished to have a trial”
Just as everyone was about to start their many protests, he spoke again, this time with and odd twinkle in his eye. Obviously it wasn’t good news for somebody. “Upon this information, those that didn’t want a trial were immediately Kissed.” A slow smirk working its way across his face, as he turned his back on the stunned silence that followed his statement.
“Knew there was something off about him.” A voice commented rather cheerfully, considering that eight people had gotten their souls sucked out of their bodies.
Turning to look at the speaker, Harry found that it was one of the mysterious boy, though which he didn’t know seeing as all their faces was watching the doors that opened letting the objects of discussion into the now completely silent room.
The first to enter was Narcissa Malfoy. It was obvious by her appearance that she had seen better days, yet she still had a smile on her face. Anyone who really knew anything about the Malfoys knew that a smile on their face meant that they had someone to blame everything on. The only real question was who Narcissa was going to blame her misfortune on, probably her husband.
Though her hair and face were equally dirty, Narcissa still managed to pull off such a sophisticated air. Even in the filthy state that it was in, her sunlight blond hair was full of curls as it bounced gently off her shoulders, as she made her way towards the defendants table, all the while looking as if she was taking a peaceful walk in the park. Her confidence and natural sophistication easily put even the best dressed women in the room to shame. Shame really, that she’d probably, most likely, leave this room without a soul. Really such a shame…
After her came her husband, Lucuis Malfoy. He too, despite the fact that he was dirty and on trial for numerous murders and tortures of Muggles and wizards, wore a calm and collected expression, as if this was just another day in his life.
As he passed the stands Malfoy Sr. smirked nastily at the people sitting there and mouthed something, but what it was no one knew or they wouldn’t say. He continued to stand there and mouth things, and some where curious as to if he hadn’t had some kind of contact with the Dementors. He only continued on his way to the table when a guard gently shoved him towards the table. He sat next to his wife, and everyone in the room noticed that he slid his as far away from her as the guards would allow.
Draco came next, looking nothing like the boy that Harry had went to Hogwarts with and secretly fallen in love with. This boy, no young man, Harry thought, had a haggard look that, no matter how much he copied his father’s smirk, could make people believe he was anything but scared for his life. His hair, much like his father’s, was nothing but a sandy blond mass that fell past his shoulders and into his sad and fearful silver-grey eyes.
As Malfoy was making his way towards the table where his parents sat, something no one thought would ever happen, including Malfoy himself, happened.
Malfoy Sr. stood up, spread his arms wide, and before the guards could cast a stupefy, enveloped his son in a fierce hug.
Silence.
Malfoy Sr. released his son just far enough to take his son’s face in his hands and give him a kiss on the forehead and a reassuring smile. A genuine smile.
“Don’t worry about anything, Draco. No matter what I will always love you.” another reassuring smile then another hug. Then a sneer. “Now sit beside your mother, if I have to sit by her any longer they’ll have a real reason to put me in Azkaban”
Malfoy cast a wary look at both his parents then did as his father had told him.
While everyone was busy speculating over this strange and new side of Lucius Malfoy, Snape came in. Barely even noticed, no one having gotten over their initial shock.
Snape looked no better and no worse than what he usually did. He was limping slightly, but it was obvious that those there didn’t care how it happened, just hoped it hurt like hell. All their thoughts were best summed up by Ron.
“Fuckin’ greasy ass git. Hope they Kiss his ass first.”
“Um excuse me,” a sweet gentle voice spoke against the buzz still circulating over the Malfoys. “but why would they want to kiss him? That doesn’t sound like a suitable punishment to me.”
The speaker was a small blond no taller than Harry’s own 5’5. He was wearing an odd combination of wizard and Muggle clothing, as were his companions. He had large turquoise eyes that looked curiously at Ron, waiting for an answer. Even those his face shone with sweetness and innocence, there was something in his eyes, much like in Harry’s eyes, that told any who could read that he had seen and done things boys his age should never have to do.
“Simply put, it where these creatures, they’re called Dementors, suck out a person’s soul.” Ron informed the blond, his voice soft as to not upset him further.
“Suck out their souls!” the blond all but screamed, drawing the attention of everyone in the room. “Why would you wish something like that on someone? Killing them for their crimes is one thing, but taking their soul and leaving their bodies as empty shells, that’s …that’s… I don’t know what it is but it’s not right.” The blond finished looking extremely sick.
“Look Quatre, its how they are. It may not be right, but they’ve been doing this for centuries and if they didn’t feel it was wrong when they started doing it, then they won’t now. Now stop thinking about it and calm down before you make yourself sick.”
This all was said by the same boy that had commented on the ministry member that had made the announcements about the trial. He was the same age and height as the other boy, with long hazelnut brown hair that was plaited in a thick braid that was currently being clutched tightly by another boy. His eyes were an odd shade, almost violet. His violet eyes were wide with concern for the blond, his mouth in a slight frown.
Before either boy could say another word, the Minister of Magic, Rufus Scrimgeour, cleared his throat, “I don’t know who you boys are, but this is a place of law, not a therapist’s office, if you want that go up two floors.”
All five of the boys and many others glared at the man for his lack of sympathy, but they did quiet down to an apprehensive silence.
“Now then, this trial is to determine if those present are guilty of the crimes they’re accused of committing, not only by the memories and statements of witness but also themselves. The order of the trial will follow as thus: Lucuis Malfoy, Severus Snape, Draco Malfoy and Narcissa Malfoy. If all goes according to plan, there won’t be any need for any recesses.”
And with that the trial began.
How’s that? There’s a specific reason why I put Narcissa last, in case you were wondering and it has something to do with Lucius’s comment. There will be some slash in the next chapter, you’ll also find out what Lucuis was mouthing when he was standing in front of Harry and others. Also you’ll find out why Lucius has been acting so odd. Spot any Gundam Boys? Same reviewing rules, thanks to those who reviewed before, it really helped calm me down. I was so nervous, ya know?
